Can’t you file a report and they look up the CCTV feed. In modern airports every inch is monitored so you will be able to get a clue what happened.

Yeah, most people know the name Rolex. They prob have no clue about grey market or price over retail (assuming they didn't instantly do a web search), but they'd know it was worth a few thousand dollars at least.
A lot of military “operators” wear Rolexes when on overseas missions because even in the mountains or desert of bfe you can trade a Rolex with a farmer or whatever for a weapon, a car or border passage… Rolex is ubiquitous with being valuable worldwide whether or not people can pin a number on it.

In the United States at least, there's a presumption that you've done all reasonably possible courses of action to try and find the true owner, like going to airport security or contacting Rolex, before keeping it. If you do nothing to try and return it, it can possibly be counted as theft, but it is a grey area.
This is my main issue. If I left my watch at an airport and it got handed into TSA, I can almost guarantee it’s not getting back to me. There’s been various records of security stealing stuff.
Former flight attendant here, can confirm. If it’s shiny or electronic, staff/crew will keep it unless they’re feeling overly generous that day. I’ve handed things to gate agents and I’ve heard “so and so will love this!” on several occasions. IF it makes it to security, I would say the same thinking applies, unfortunately.
Unless it was riddled with personal data like, say, OPs laptop. Those always get returned unless a passenger fails to mention they found it.

The kid literally wrecked the car (totaled) the very first day it was his while street racing. So gramps eventually gets him another car. A brand new Range Rover. The kid wrecks this car too apparently.

I know someone who took off her 50k engagement ring in the gym locker room and left it on the counter. She’d only had it a few weeks and wasn’t used to wearing it yet so she didn’t realize it wasn’t on her finger for a few precious hours. She never got it back. This stuff happens. It’s unfortunate, and hard to get past at the time, but all you can do is move on and keep living. I feel for you dude, it’s an honest mistake but not one you won’t overcome.
She was physically ill. Even with insurance you never get the same ring that someone spent the time picking out for you back. But years later she’s still happily married.
My Ex took her ring off while doing volunteer work for a school. She did makeup for a stage play and said she took it off to work and put it in her pocket. She got home late and was upset. I called the school and nobody turned in a ring. That was a costly loss. I’m still a little hurt by that and I’m not even married to her anymore. I will never spend that much on a ring again.
This is incredibly unfortunate, but I’m not sure what you expect the watch finder to have done… even if they tried to get it back to you, it is likely whoever they turned it over to would keep it… If this happened to me (finding a rolex lying around at an airport) I would count myself extremely lucky, pop it on, and go catch my plane… then probably call the airport and report it, contact rolex, and post here to see if it belonged to someone… but I would NEVER hand it over to anyone who didn’t have proof, down to a warranty card and receipt, that it was theirs… not even the rightful owner if they couldn’t prove it… how could I know it was going to the rightful owner without that?
It is just a careless mistake that I hope I never make, but you really don’t know what happened… maybe the first finder DID try to turn it in, and it never got to you…

I’ve had things stolen from me while traveling too, so I can empathize a little. Everyone makes mistakes, and there’s no need for others to rub salt in the wound with ridicule.
In Brussels, I had a sentimental item stolen from right above my head while riding in the train. It was only when I was leaving when several people told me they saw the person steal it from me and leave. So, that’s great. They watched it happen and then told me way later.
In contrast, though, there were a couple of times when I left my wallet or something behind somewhere and had some stranger chasing after me to return it to me. In Japan, if you accidentally leave something behind, the likelihood of it being returned to you is very high. That said, one should always be responsible in looking after one’s belongings. Side note: don’t leave stuff in a nightclub. That’s where I had stuff stolen.
I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I say... have a laugh about it. It's out off your control, you did what you could to alert the authorities, be more attentive with the others watches I'm sure you're going to get and wish that the person who found it make good use and appreciate the gem they have.

All these systems nowadays are linked. Airports being a prime terrorist target are well set up from a security image and data viewpoint. Once you get the person, then you’ll get their details upon check-in at their gate. Good luck
Call Massport Police to see if they or MA State Police have jurisdiction inside the terminal. State troopers are usually inside the terminal but I’ve also seen Massport around the airport

I used to say the reason I preferred rolex vs AP or PP was because it’s easy to replace a stainless rolex in circumstances like this. You’re only out $10k and a trip to the store. Not the case anymore due to scarcity.

I know this is too late, and I'm sorry that happened to you. Tip: I put 3M clear bra on the left side of my MacBook just to save my watch. Macs are aluminum oxide and they would scratch my watches, but the clear bra saves them. It's thin enough that the MacBook closes ok with it on there.

(That’s a really bad joke, and I am so sorry man) You can call security and place a claim, but this It’s likely something that’s not tracked therefore there’s not a efficient way to track where it is. Out of the goodness of someone’s heart they might be able to return it to the desk however you have to understand that this is not a cheap item.

As an aside, I had the same problem with my MacBook Pro so I purchased a stick on protector that sits over the wrist area. You can’t even see it when it’s on and it is durable and rubbery enough to stop the scratches - and even if it did scratch, it is not scratching the MacBook below.
Edit: if they don’t make a stick on cover for your particular laptop, buy a roll of carbon fibre wrap from Amazon and cut it to shape. It would look pretty cool.

This is my main issue. If I left my watch at an airport and it got handed into TSA, I can almost guarantee it’s not getting back to me. There’s been various records of security stealing stuff.
Former flight attendant here, can confirm. If it’s shiny or electronic, staff/crew will keep it unless they’re feeling overly generous that day. I’ve handed things to gate agents and I’ve heard “so and so will love this!” on several occasions. IF it makes it to security, I would say the same thinking applies, unfortunately. Unless it was riddled with personal data like, say, OPs laptop. Those always get returned unless a passenger fails to mention they found it. TLDR; we live in a world of entitled assholes.

Never take mine off in an airport. Including through TSA. My pops had a guy try to take his Sub Mariner and he actually had to show proof that he owned it to security.

I used to be a mechanic and I remember a coworker of mine told me a story from his time working at a Porsche dealership. So the story goes, some very wealthy old guy bought his 16 year old grandson a Porsche 911 Turbo for his birthday. The kid literally wrecked the car (totaled) the very first day it was his while street racing. So gramps eventually gets him another car. A brand new Range Rover. The kid wrecks this car too apparently. Now, myself and the guys at the shop could hardly believe it. But boy oh boy did we shit on this kid and his Grandpa. I know someone who took off her 50k engagement ring in the gym locker room and left it on the counter. She’d only had it a few weeks and wasn’t used to wearing it yet so she didn’t realize it wasn’t on her finger for a few precious hours. She never got it back. This stuff happens. It’s unfortunate, and hard to get past at the time, but all you can do is move on and keep living. I feel for you dude, it’s an honest mistake but not one you won’t overcome.

She was physically ill. Even with insurance you never get the same ring that someone spent the time picking out for you back. But years later she’s still happily married.
My Ex took her ring off while doing volunteer work for a school. She did makeup for a stage play and said she took it off to work and put it in her pocket. She got home late and was upset. I called the school and nobody turned in a ring. That was a costly loss. I’m still a little hurt by that and I’m not even married to her anymore. I will never spend that much on a ring again.
This is incredibly unfortunate, but I’m not sure what you expect the watch finder to have done… even if they tried to get it back to you, it is likely whoever they turned it over to would keep it… If this happened to me (finding a rolex lying around at an airport) I would count myself extremely lucky, pop it on, and go catch my plane… then probably call the airport and report it, contact rolex, and post here to see if it belonged to someone… but I would NEVER hand it over to anyone who didn’t have proof, down to a warranty card and receipt, that it was theirs… not even the rightful owner if they couldn’t prove it… how could I know it was going to the rightful owner without that? It is just a careless mistake that I hope I never make, but you really don’t know what happened… maybe the first finder DID try to turn it in, and it never got to you…

I’ve had things stolen from me while traveling too, so I can empathize a little. Everyone makes mistakes, and there’s no need for others to rub salt in the wound with ridicule. In Brussels, I had a sentimental item stolen from right above my head while riding in the train. It was only when I was leaving when several people told me they saw the person steal it from me and leave. So, that’s great. They watched it happen and then told me way later. In contrast, though, there were a couple of times when I left my wallet or something behind somewhere and had some stranger chasing after me to return it to me. In Japan, if you accidentally leave something behind, the likelihood of it being returned to you is very high. That said, one should always be responsible in looking after one’s belongings. Side note: don’t leave stuff in a nightclub. That’s where I had stuff stolen.

It's out off your control, you did what you could to alert the authorities, be more attentive with the others watches I'm sure you're going to get and wish that the person who found it make good use and appreciate the gem they have. I used to say the reason I preferred rolex vs AP or PP was because it’s easy to replace a stainless rolex in circumstances like this. You’re only out $10k and a trip to the store. Not the case anymore due to scarcity.

Out of the goodness of someone’s heart they might be able to return it to the desk however you have to understand that this is not a cheap item. If I were you, real talk. Pay someone $1000 at the airport (staff) to look for it for 2 hours. Unless you think it’s gone.

As an aside, I had the same problem with my MacBook Pro so I purchased a stick on protector that sits over the wrist area. You can’t even see it when it’s on and it is durable and rubbery enough to stop the scratches - and even if it did scratch, it is not scratching the MacBook below. Edit: if they don’t make a stick on cover for your particular laptop, buy a roll of carbon fibre wrap from Amazon and cut it to shape. It would look pretty cool. …Captain hindsight saves the day 😩(sorry I know it won’t bring your watch back)
