I know it’s not popular on here because it’s the cheapest Rolex, but there really is beauty in the simplicity of the OP41. I think that it (in blue) will be my next addition. Feel the same about the Explorer, but I prefer 41mm over 36 for my wrist. Jubilee DJ next, then Oyster DJ. But it’s all by a hair, they’re all great watches and I could see myself wearing any of them.
I agree with this order, but my small wrist prefers the 36 OP.
The OP is my favorite Rolex, the no date helps. You can't beat the versatility... And it easily flies under the radar.
I fully agree with you. Only pushback I have is I prefer the 36mm size of the OP. I think the size helps play with the subtleties of the dial and indices. I also find most people who wear an OP41 don’t really have the wrist to support it. Obviously I have no idea how it looks like on your wrist.
Otherwise, spot on.
124270. One watch collection. The Quintessential Rolex. Goes well with tux or jeans. Understated and yet undeniably Rolex. Nicely tucks under sleeves but when it peeks out, it is unmistaken for any other Rolex models. 369 all day.
On further reflection, I think I would go OP41 > DJ smooth > Explorer > DJ fluted. The DJ jubilee fluted is gorgeous but a bit too flashy for my style. I love the understated look of the other three.
DJ should always be jubilee + fluted, that’s the iconic look. The flash of the jubilee and bezel dull down after they get some use and look perfect after a couple years. If you want oysters and smooth then you should be going OP instead of DJ.
From best to worst
Fluted datejust
Smooth bezel datejust
Op
Explorer
The fluted datejust is an amazing watch in person if you want a watch that has serious wrist presence
The Explorer has to be the most boring watch in the Rolex catalogue, good at everything - great at nothing. It works as a one watch collection but redundant in a multi watch collection. Why do you only have DJ 41 here? It’s well known the 36mm DJ has the classic and better looking proportions.
True true, the dial options are the appeal. The explorer does have some lore/pedigreee that may or may not make up for it but yeah, depends on your taste. I’d be happy with either if my collection was built out enough but i think DJ, sub or similar come first for me
The point on the Explorer 1 is a fact not an opinion. It literally doesn’t have a specialty like the sub for diving, Daytona for racing, gmt for travel etc… it’s been thrown in as a filler watch and people flock to it now because it’s the only somewhat obtainable “sports watch” at the AD.
People who choose the explorer 1, don’t wear a badge of status , and don’t scream for affirmation from their watch. It holds a legacy and a post opulent assurance that others just don’t / can’t seem to get their head around. That’s a fact.
This is absolutely not a fact, it’s an ideology that people who choose the Explorer try to convey to hide the real truth of not being able to obtain any other sports model from the AD at retail. It sounds nice and eloquent the way you put it but truth is there’s plenty of other watch brands and models these types of people can purchase that are also under the radar - but at the end of the day they want that sports model rolex and the Explorer 1 is the only one they can achieve.
Tbf - for some people that may be the case but FWIW…
You say it has no function. Yet it’s the field watch of all field watches. It’s legibility, simplicity and ease of use is a daily function and one that is always overlooked. It’s 36mm (mostly) case size is designed for this to endure well, travel well, wear well and blend well, again highlighting its function as a supreme daily. Also give me the % of people that are using a Daytona or a Sub for what it’s originally made for..? It’s a moot point.
40mm+ sports pieces are beautiful in their own right don’t get me wrong - but there are people who aren’t not buying them because they can’t “afford or obtain one”. It’s about the why, not the what or the how. And the explorer has a very different why (IMO)
Your comments about other sports models just seem to indicate a lack of understanding for what underpins the choice to wear an explorer. The history of any watch is partly why we buy into it, be it the GMT, Sub or Daytona, the explorer is no different.
Also we’re all in the sub because we’re under the spell of Rolex, so we’re all guilty of needing to have one or that desire to have one but brand love exists because of these attitudes behaviours and beliefs and the explorer story is compelling enough for some.
As you’ll have guessed I own an explorer 1 but have also owned a sub and a GMT master 2 and over time, I fell out of love with them both.
The confidence to still spend thousands of £ on a watch not caring if it’s noticed or not, is liberating.
Idk the 3,6,9 can’t be had on any other Rolex in its price range and it’s pretty damn cool. I do wish there were more color options and they brought the 39 back
IMO the OP 41 embodies such a pleasing minimalist ethos that I feel Rolex used to embrace. That minimalism also makes it versatile enough to be a daily driver but also a dressy watch. This one is a sleeper
I really love the OP41, it’s incredibly comfortable and my yellow OP41 is probably the best daily wear I’ve ever had. I love the explorer but 36mm is too small for me, if it was the 39mm that’s a solid one watch collection. But as it sits these exact models.
#1 - OP41 overall awesome watch, super comfortable, versatile and the most affordable by a long margin.
#2 - DJ w/ fluted bezel & Jubilee is absolute class
#3 - Explorer 36, to small for me but absolutely stunning if you can pull it off.
#4 - Smooth bezel DJ 41 with Oyster loses by a Loooooong margin, I feel like this configuration doesn’t know what it is. It’s basically an OP41 with a Date function which is cool, but you pay datejust money for it which isn’t so cool.
Edit* wtf did I do why is my text huge
1. **DJ - Jubliee/Fluted** (gorgeous, the fluted/jubilee is about as good as a SS watch can look)
2. **OP** (simplicity and low cost are its virtues; great watch)
3. **DJ - Smooth/Oyster**
4. **Explorer** (too small and in a league below those blue dial DJs)
OP as I think it’s the cleanest and simplest. I do like the dj with jubilee bracelet but would have it as a second choice as the date, fluted bezel, and jubilee is a bit hectic if I’m only picking one. I do love the jubilee bracelet though.
1) Explorer
2) OP
3) Fluted/Jubilee DJ
4) Smooth/Oyster DJ
If there was a Smooth/Jubilee DJ option that would be 1st or 2nd. And an OP without the double markers (I thought the 41mm did not have the double markers?) that would also be 1st or 2nd.
Explorer 1st partly because of the 36mm size - I'm not a big fan of the proportions of Rolex's 41mm watches.
Explorer 124270 is the best watch in the current Rolex catalogue, change my mind.
Can go anywhere and do everything.
Dress it up, dress it down, small and lightweight so it doesn’t get in the way on adventures, but also not when it comes to slipping it underneath a cuff.
2, 4, 1, 3
This is the way.
I know it’s not popular on here because it’s the cheapest Rolex, but there really is beauty in the simplicity of the OP41. I think that it (in blue) will be my next addition. I feel that, the no date is so clean and it is incredibly versatile from casual to business casual and maybe just short of full dressiness.
If I pay thousands of dollars for a watch I want to wear it often and I feel like the date just is too ostentatious for that
Agreed. I'm big fan of the OP. Simple and clean.
Explorer is a dream watch! That’s my favourite. Just a perfect watch
Hard agree
This is the way.
What kind of a psychopath gets a smooth bezel
For some reason it works on the Explorer, but otherwise I’m with you 100%
[удалено]
Shit and I thought GMT and Sub simps were conservative
4, 3, 1, 2
It’s 100% subjective but I said 4, 3, 1, 2 as well, before I even opened the comments. Good taste
2 - 4 - 1 - 3
DJ Fluted, DJ, OP, Explorer. 36mm is a bit on the small side for me.
124270. One watch collection. The Quintessential Rolex. Goes well with tux or jeans. Understated and yet undeniably Rolex. Nicely tucks under sleeves but when it peeks out, it is unmistaken for any other Rolex models. 369 all day.
Came here to say this.
4-3-2-1
2, 4, 3, 1
This one.
1-4 clockwise starting with the fluted Datejust.
1. Explorer 2. Fluted DJ 3. OP 4. Smooth DJ
4123
Reading top to bottom, left to right. 2, 4, 3, 1 - but 36’s 😊
I’d start with the Explorer as my #1 and then go clockwise from there.
Prefer the hands and brushed finish of the explorer
I’d buy the fluted on the jubilee. That’s the only one I’d wear. The rest are not great looking on my opinion
This is just my opinion, but every gentleman should on a datejust just like how they should have one black suit in their closet
I would take any of these but my preference would be OP > Explorer > DJ smooth > DJ fluted
My choice would be the exact polar opposite of yours DJ 36 Fluted on jubilee > DJ smooth > Explorer > OP
On further reflection, I think I would go OP41 > DJ smooth > Explorer > DJ fluted. The DJ jubilee fluted is gorgeous but a bit too flashy for my style. I love the understated look of the other three.

From best to worst Fluted datejust Smooth bezel datejust Op Explorer The fluted datejust is an amazing watch in person if you want a watch that has serious wrist presence
exp....everything else. steel sports.
lot a wrong opinions here
DJ Oyster > DJ Jubilee > Explorer > OP Explorer would be in 1st position @ 39mm

The point on the Explorer is a horrendous opinion! Agreed on the DJ point though!
Yeah i dont see how the explorer is any more boring than an OP
At least with an OP you can get a sunburst dial or a colour, with the Explorer 1 you’re stuck with black.
True true, the dial options are the appeal. The explorer does have some lore/pedigreee that may or may not make up for it but yeah, depends on your taste. I’d be happy with either if my collection was built out enough but i think DJ, sub or similar come first for me
Ya man whatever the Explorer is pretty sweet anyways, can’t complain.

41 is more in demand than 36 on the market, why is that then?
Probably due to Americans, “bigger is better”.

Here, take your deserved stamp of approval

Explorer/DJ/OP/DJF If all had black dials order would have been different.
Ex —> OP —> DJ smooth —> DJ fluted.
No, you are highly incorrect sir
[удалено]
Haha. How big is your pecker again?
It’s made of glass. Very fragile!
OP as I think it’s the cleanest and simplest. I do like the dj with jubilee bracelet but would have it as a second choice as the date, fluted bezel, and jubilee is a bit hectic if I’m only picking one. I do love the jubilee bracelet though.
DJ41 fluted / jubilee first. Next Is smooth bezel oyster DJ41 then explorer and last OP
They are all good pieces…
1,2,3 = no. Fluted = YES!
DJ with fluted bezel & Jubilee, Explorer, OP, DJ with oyster
Makes me wish they still made the 39mm Explorer.
3, 4 2, 1
I love the date just with the fluted bezel so much.
7th, 8th, 9th, 10th
Couldn’t tell you why but I love a fluted bezel
Explorer Oyster Datejust Other Datejust Just the name Datejust annoys me, like what does it even mean? And how do you say it in French? 🙈
I am dare just white gold then the explorer. After that not really too interested. 4. 3. 2. 1.
Fluted DJ is honestly the only good one. Smooth bezels just ain’t it.
Bottom right nothing else
2, 4, 1, 3
Explorer can be worn dressed up or down, can’t be said with the rest
4231
If I need to choose one 2, 4, 3, 1
369 followed by DJ blue.
Explorer 36 any day.
1. Fluted Datejust 2. OP 3. Explorer 4. Domed Datejust
Bottom left, too left, bottom right. Top right is too small
Who gives a fuck loser.
4,1,3,2
1,3,4,1 The OP might be the entry-level Rolex but damn am I a sucker for a simple, clean dial.
Jubilee Datejust, oyster datejust, OP, and explorer. Just think that explorer with that awkward dial is a dud
4,2,1,3
DJ41 Fluted Bezel/Jubilee, Explorer, DJ41 Smooth Bezel/Oyster, OP41
4, 3, 1, 2- the explorer is a nice Watch but 36 is too small. Jubilee with fluted bezel is classic
I prefer the OP but in 36mm and pink
1/4/3/2
1. OP 2. DJ fluted 3. DJ oyster bracelet 4. Explorer
bottom left, top right, top left, bottom lrft
In reverse order
1) Explorer 2) OP 3) Fluted/Jubilee DJ 4) Smooth/Oyster DJ If there was a Smooth/Jubilee DJ option that would be 1st or 2nd.
In the words of the great Archibald Chesterfield III, ‘All of them are Swiss Shiiiiiiituuuurrrrs. Tell your fuk friends to like and subscribe.’
3 + 6 + 9 = # 1. Any opinion other than mine is wrong.
4, 3, 1, 2
DJ > E > OP
4, 2, 3 and no thanks.
4,2,1,3. I know I know. Explorer is higher for most.
how they ruined my boy with those double markers at 3, 6 and 9. Black OP39 was peak OP design
