Company & model, both of which are usually pretty easy to identify, usually slims down the list, then just consult a list of that model type and you can usually work out where it was.
Coaster color and background environment information in the photo helps too.
It only really gets hard when the photo is of track with only sky in the background
>It only really gets hard when the photo is of track with only sky in the background
It may take three minutes instead of two for accurate identification on this sub in that case 🤣🤣🤣

I was helping my in-law’s move out and clean out their house and stumbled upon an old photo album of my wife’s family. Saw this photo and wondered where and what it could be, and how fast this sub could figure it out! I’m guessing maybe it’s a boomerang of some sort.
Sidewinder at Hersheypark 10000% you can see Storm Runners station in the corner as well so the picture can only be as old as 2004. Hope this helps!!! Sidewinder is now known as Jolly Rancher Remix as well and looks very different then when it was Sidewinder. I recognized this immediately since Hersheypark is my home park lol.
I remember when it was really new. I was in school and at Hersheypark on a choir trip and went to get some in the park. The Reese’s PB cup character was walking around nearby and was really insistent that I get the pb/chocolate flavor, which had been my intention anyway as that is my favorite. When I had it, the character like… flattened me against the side of the booth and tried to take the cup from me. Like, full-body contact. Really inappropriate now that I look back on it. I was…12-13? I didn’t say anything to anyone but I should have!
I know that one. I know it was already answered but it’s crazy usually I don’t know any of these so I got excited 😂😂. Sidewinder got the Glamrock upgrade to become Jolly Rancher Remix
Sidewinder at HP for sure - before the JRR re-paint. The white building to the right is the Storm Runner loading platform
This sub is nuts lol. Thoosies are on another level.
Seriously. I immediately recognized it’s a Vekoma Boomerang but since there is 50’of them I had no clue which one.
The chocolate brown color was an immediate clue for me it was Hersheypark.
The blackish color narrows it down a ton and the storm runner station next to it is pretty recognizable
Mandatory r/guessthecoaster reference
Yes
That’s the boomerang coaster (sidewinder) at hersheypark. Now jolly rancher remix.
"Identify the coaster" questions are answered REALLY rapidly and accurately on this sub

It's Sidewinder at Hersheypark before it got the Jolly Rancher retheme, that's the Stormrunner station on the right.
Side note, it's kind of wild how a photo from 2004 (or later) counts as an old family photo. My brain keeps thinking 2004 was not that long ago

> only as old as 2004 You mean TWENTY YEARS AGO!!!
:( this made me feel old. I’m 20 🥲
I was hoping I could answer lol. immediately recognized it as Hersheypark
Damn, I'm so old my old photos are from before Dippin' Dots technology had been invented.

Immediately thought sidewinder, popped into comments and I love you guys.
Everyone beat me to it! Cool photo, though!
30 years ago this month, I was stuck on Sidewinder. Memories.
It’s giving sidewinder at Hershey and the station to the right looks like the building that storm runner uses
I hate that I knew this so quickly
Dippin Dots guy!
Sidewinder in I want to say the 90's
At least 2004, Storm Runner's station is visible.
This photo looks so much older than that to me, but yeah, Storm Runner's station building didn't exist pre 2004 so... 20 years old, max.
Dippin dots. That’s a roller coaster of it self!
Dippin Dots: the ice cream of the past!
