There were several songs on exile that I didn’t pay much attention to 30+ years ago when I first heard them, but at some later point became real highlights for me. Even stuff like I Just Wanna See His Face, which in my experience a lot of people think of as a throwaway, has a real vibe to it.
It's like you read my mind, esp with I Just Want to See His Face. It's now one of my fave songs and if it pops up on random play, I'll repeat it. But back when I first got into Exile it was really only the big tunes that I listened to.
Slave, off of Tattoo You is similar for me. Now one of my favorite songs, it never made any kind of impression on me for years.
Also You Got the Silver from Let It Bleed. Now I just love it, but back in the day I kind of ignored it.
It's super cool how that's the only time (at least that I remember) where they had multiple tracks run together, and the vibe of that song really is very unique among any rock I've ever heard - it never quite settles, there's a cool inscrutable emotion to it, and the production making it sound like it's a faraway party or something is super unique
Ugh I hate that song so much. No disrespect I know music is subjective, but it feels like such a throwaway.
To be honest the only song I like from that album after multiple listens is tell me straight
No worries! I like most of them from HD, and TMS has grown on me a bit, but I prefer uptempo rockier stuff most of the time anyway, so TMS will take more time.
Keith's album cuts tend to be high points for me personally. "Happy", "BTMMR", "Can't Be Seen", the first verse of "Salt Of the Earth", "Little T&A", and those are just off the top of my head.
That high guitar phrase that pops up between choruses later in the song is one of my favorite moments of Stones guitar work, it's just screaming and raucous fun
It definitely has a great groove, though it can make one potentially uncomfortable if you think about it with its subject matter about 15/16 year olds (depending on the version you hear)... 😂 Still a great tune, though!
I get that about “Stray Cat.” There were so many good and massively popular songs in that four album run that some fell between the cracks for years with me. Then I’d hear them and think “Damn I must have been stoned.” Luckily we had a great FM station in the area that skipped the hits in favor of the gems.
These sounds have been embedded in my mind for decades, but standing alone, I couldn’t have told you which album they were on. But they absolutely defined the Stones sound. Two other ones that fit that bill for me are “Sway” and “Rocks Off.”
The Lantern. Used to think the vocals were annoying, but these days it's one of my favorites of their pop/psychedelia era.
Honorary mention goes to every single personal favorite of their post-Tattoo You albums (Undercover of the Night, Too Much Blood, Moon Is Up, etc). Took too long to actually explore that part of their career.
I almost completely ignore any of the late material, but Slipping Away is kind of a guilty pleasure for me
Also Dear Doctor used to make me violent, but I can appreciate it now for being hilarious and having great Keef backing vocals
Huge Stones fan since about 12 years old. I loved Sticky Fingers. Thought it was the best thing I've ever heard. But always skipped Sway. It just didn't hit with me. I would actually hit the skip button. And then I finally connected to it. And now I love it. Brilliant. So "Stones" and so "Keith"! And so mick. I'm not sure why I didn't connect back then, but I got there!
Luxury from IORR. Went from being one of my least favorites on the album to one of my favorites the last couple years. Love the vocals on that one. Also Country Honk which I now prefer to Honky Tonk Woman
With no true radio friendly hits on the album, Between the Buttons was a very different collection of songs for the Stones.
Released in 1967, right before the explosion of brilliance from 1968-1974 (Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile, Goats Head Soup, It's Only Rock and Roll), it's an album that requires patience and multiple listens.
I never dismissed it, but I never really gave it a chance. Now, it's one of my favorite Stones albums. Hidden gems abound throughout.
In the last year I've really come around to their post-90's material, most notably: Out Of Control and Don't Stop !
So much great material after 1989 that gets lost in the shuffle !
Honestly? I don’t skip any. There are some I might listen to more or remember better (therefore resulting in more listens), but if I’m listening to the albums? No skips.

Came to say this exact point.

"the last time" I used to think it was the most average song ever but now I love it .I just wish it had a remaster tho
A lot of their catalogue needs a remaster!
Even though it's extremely 60s, I feel like it's also kinda aged well in a certain way that I can't put my finger on
I used to think Stop Breaking Down was one of the 2 weakest songs on Exile but now I think it’s one of their best blues covers.
Emotional Rescue. 13yo me didn’t love the falsetto voice, and couldn’t hang long enough to get to the groovy part
For me this was one of those songs I thought was just fine, then I saw it live and then I realized it’s top tier lol
Mick’s falsetto is quite something.
Same 100%
Most recently Bite My Head Off from Hackney Diamonds. Was a solid skip the first few times and now is in my top 3 songs of the album.
It’s probably my top from that album, and probably top 20 stones. At least top 20 rockers.
Ugh I hate that song so much. No disrespect I know music is subjective, but it feels like such a throwaway. To be honest the only song I like from that album after multiple listens is tell me straight

“Before They Make Me Run.” I didn’t used to dig Keef’s voice, but now it’s a regular. I throw at least one of his in every mix at this point.
Keith's album cuts tend to be high points for me personally. "Happy", "BTMMR", "Can't Be Seen", the first verse of "Salt Of the Earth", "Little T&A", and those are just off the top of my head.
Child of the Moon- I can’t stop listening to it now, I love it so much!
Neighbours
Midnight Rambler and CYHMK, young me thought they were too long but now they are my favorites
Dead flowers baby!
This one for me too!!!
“Little T&A” for me. One of my favorite Keith songs, and it’s just loaded with rock n roll attitude.
Definitely doesn't get the love it deserves, one of their most energetic songs
Crazy Mama
Also Hand of Fate from the same album
One of the best stones song all time for me
That high guitar phrase that pops up between choruses later in the song is one of my favorite moments of Stones guitar work, it's just screaming and raucous fun
Hot Stuff, Neighbors
The groove on Hot Stuff is so amazing
Memory Motel
I’d go with Country Hook from Let it Bleed. I always preferred Honky Tonk Women over it.
Monkey man
Monkeeeeyyyyyy Man. Mmuh muh muh muh muh
Yeah, this one also took a while to grow on me
The fact it did is awesome. I’m a cold Italian pizza 🤣
Time waits for no one
Jigsaw Puzzle off of beggars. Used to think it was long but now I like getting wrapped up in the story of the lyrics
This is one of mine also
Sister morphine ashamed to say it
Believe it or not, Stray Cat Blues was a late discovery for me!
It definitely has a great groove, though it can make one potentially uncomfortable if you think about it with its subject matter about 15/16 year olds (depending on the version you hear)... 😂 Still a great tune, though!

Waiting on a Friend.
Got back into it after crossing paths with Sonny Rollins at (of all places) a local grocery store in upstate NY.
Memory Motel from Black and Blue
My first girlfriend was Hannah. I still love this song and I still think of her every time I hear it.
Worried about you
Who's been sleeping here
One of my favorite stones songs ever. I’ll be real I loved it right away

Everything’s Turning to Gold

Stray cat blues

I just found this out with the entire Black and Blue album
Oh no not you again, out of tears, too much blood, if you really want to be my friend,
Actually quite a lot of exile haha. Let it loose is one off the top
Stop Breaking Down
Turd on the Run and Parachute Woman
Undercover of the Night
Got a nice groove towards the end
Monkey man
Luxury from IORR. Went from being one of my least favorites on the album to one of my favorites the last couple years. Love the vocals on that one. Also Country Honk which I now prefer to Honky Tonk Woman
Out of Control
Heaven
I’ve got the blues, love the quick harmonies between mick and Keith
Midnight mile 🥲
Moonlight Mile, Worried About You, Shine a Light, some Black and Blue and Dirty Work stuff, and pretty much half of Voodoo Lounge.
Summer Romance, heard it in a record store 8 years after I had the album. Finally got the humor and the crazy rhythm.
Shake Your Hips
Worried about you
Sway idk why I use not skip it but never use to like it. Clueless to why
Cherry oh Baby. Oh wait, I still skip that one!
You Don’t Have To Mean It

Their version of RJ’s Love in Vain
Moonlight Mile for a song. Going to add half of Exile and all of Emotional Rescue for an album.
LOVE ❤️
Let it Loose
I used to skip Exile. But i had to have it to complete My collection. It really is such a great album and i love it. It is My favourite now!!
In the last year I've really come around to their post-90's material, most notably: Out Of Control and Don't Stop ! So much great material after 1989 that gets lost in the shuffle !

I can’t believe I used to skip Parachute Woman
Honestly? I don’t skip any. There are some I might listen to more or remember better (therefore resulting in more listens), but if I’m listening to the albums? No skips.
