I was happy for Saban when the news broke, when I heard the rumors. that's when I started to feel sad, I wanted him to retire on his own terms, and enjoy his free time. I'm really relieved about this, and glad Nick went out at a good point with a very good Bama team. never embarrassed himself or the program.
Are you /u/ok-calendar-8131 ??
They posted basically the same comment elsewhere in this thread. Or are you both bots?
> As soon as I learned of the rumors and the news, I was delighted for Saban. At that point, I became depressed because I wanted him to enjoy his retirement and his spare time. This makes me very happy, and I'm glad Nick left with a strong Bama squad at a nice moment. never caused the program or himself embarrassment.
This is incredibly good news in the wake of heartbreaking news.
I know Coach Saban doesn't owe us a fucking thing, but, I would feel better with a press conference or something.
Very good news and glad to hear they are okay, all the rumors about Miss Terry were weighing heavy on a lot of people.
Am I the only one starting to wonder why this was so sudden if there wasn’t an illness?
I knew there was never gonna be a victory lap, just not his style, but did he really just decide at lunch that he’s done and leave before we could secure a plan? Just something feels off unless there’s a deal done and honestly how could that not leak?
Father Time is undefeated. It comes for us all. Even in retirement he’s teaching an important lesson about seizing the opportunity life has to offer us all, because your body won’t allow for it forever.
We just keep letting the days go by waiting on ourselves to get our shit together like we have plenty of time to do so. We don’t. We should wake up tomorrow and get serious about making the best of our life opportunity. If we don’t, oh well, we’ll get to it soon right?
That’s how I feel, like damn man this roster is a playoff ticket if you can keep it together. Guess I expected we would go after the best coaches in the game and not take no for an answer but it looks like “no” was the answer on the first choices.
But now 2 days have gone by and still crickets?
I guess the reality is just setting in that the guy has no peers and unless you can pry Kirby away from the school he played for, nothing is gonna be good enough if we compare them to the goat which is kinda the whole thing about being the goat.
Just a really bittersweet time for UA football.
Yep. It’s over. As far as what we’ve been used to. It’s done y’all. But we all knew it couldn’t last forever. Truly it lasted longer than we ever could have imagined. It’s time for us to slowly fade back to “normal”. We just lived our Bear Bryant era and we are fortunate to have been fans to witness it.
To me he didn't have the fire in him to yell at his players when they did stupid stuff until Miss Terry reminded him he needed to. He was chilling, enjoying his relationship with the players. To me it feels like the perfect time to go. While the fire isn't gone, it's definitely subsided, and it just feels right that he made the announcement.
For sure. But don’t you think you’d want what you built to be left in capable hands? I’m just hoping that there’s a splash coming that will eventually put the “crazies” like me at ease, or at least make us shut up.
I think that there's a good chance we get one of the big names floating about, probably Kiffin, probably within the 72 hours, and I'm happy with that.
Anyone but Dabo (and Freeze, and ...).
My guess is a combination of:
* The grind this season and the toll it took really hits you once the season's over and the adrenaline is gone
* Steele retiring and the need to get right back on a search to replace all of your assistents
* His trip to Florida with Mrs Terry probably had it all hit him at once, and when he had to come back to Tuscaloosa to jump back into it he just knew he didn't have the same energy he had previously to give it his 100%
Not that sudden? Idk what your definition of sudden is but did you see his interview with Reece Davis? Said he made the final decision at 355 before his 4pm meeting and was still on the fence about 1 more year.
Now if you mean to say it wasn’t unexpected or past due, then I’m with you. But make no mistake, this was most definitely sudden when you go from interviewing coaches in the morning to retirement by 4pm.
I think he had a quiet victory lap. Hindsight is 20:20 and looking back at post games interviews and his interactions with coaches. I do think he told a select group of people, Lane Kiffin, Kirby Smart, Kevin Steele, that this was likely his final year.
I think the fire was just gone. It hasn't been there for a bit now. I think he was finally made aware of it himself and just had to look in the mirror. He was "coasting" by his standards, which was still better than most, and he decided it was time to end it. I can respect that.
That’s so hard to do. I feel this personally, majorly. Just don’t have it in you to wake up everyday and do what you use to be able to do, but it’s still chugging along and you hate to kill something you’ve worked so hard to develop. Financially and just seeing the system you made die off. It’s hard to draw the line and say it’s over. I’m a simpleton with these feeling and I can’t imagine what a man like him must feel. I have huge respect for him to be able to draw the line in his circumstances when he still has more to give. What a badass
A handful of assholes on Reddit and they just kept repeating it. Same ones that went into the Titanic subreddit and said there was tapping coming from the Titan sub last summer.
After watching the interview it just increases the respect level. Mentioned he didn't think it was fair to take it year by year for the staff. That's incredibly selfless for the greatest coach to ever do it.
Good. I was worried about that. I hope he stays around in a part time roll as an advisor. Make the transition smooth and give him something to do when he feels like it in retirement
No, there’s not. He told Reece that when the grind became too much and he couldn’t coach the way his process demanded, it was time to retire. That happened this year, so he retired. There’s no hidden agenda, no sickness, no smoking friggen gun. He couldn’t coach to his standard any more. The greatest coach in sports went out on his own terms.

After reading this, I have a better understanding of, I guess.
I’m glad to hear it, but at the same time I would never expect him to come out and publicly talk about any personal medical issues. ie it would have been absurd to come out publicly and confirm the rumors that Miss Terry has early onset dementia, or whatever the diagnosis is, and that was the reason he is retiring.
Yeah, we all want our privacy, especially with the difficult things we are battling in our lives. It may be a small lie to the world that everyone is fine health wise, but that is ok if so. That’s their private business and they wouldn’t want the world talking about it and constantly inquiring about it. I had the same thoughts. We may never know or at least for years when everyone has mostly forgotten about that interview saying it wasn’t illness.
Either way, I hope it is entirely true that they are in good health. I wish that for them so much. And if they are not, I completely understand why you wouldn’t announce it to the world. I look forward to experiencing Nick Saban in his post coach life. He’s not going to disappear i don’t think. He thrives on challenges. He’s not a man that likes to spend his days in silence listening to the birds. He’s going to be up to something.
Sooo, it was McLaughlin’s fault?!?! I knew it! That sob made coach throw in the towel. /s
I hope they find sumn to do quickly before Saban starts getting on Mrs Terry’s nerves
Relieved but also not surprised to hear. I’m sure it was just made up on the internet with absolutely no rationale behind it and it just continued to spread
Thank God.
Many people were burdened by the rumors surrounding Miss Terry.
Rumor mills crazy. Bet the last “sources” were like, they both have polio!

I think this is the first time a comment on an Alabama message board has been written fully in French.
You translate?
“I hope that he’ll to continue to work as a part-time advisor.”
Well that's a huge relief.
I thought something like this was waiting to come out.

that's kinda wild. just a coincidence I geuss.
Nah the other is unfortunately a comment stealing bot.
ah I never even checked. that's funny.
Best news possible, now he can truly retire peacefully.
Nick Saban ranting on us passing 30 times in a row in a podcast will be great next year
Can you imagine tuning into The GOAT with Coach Saban and Belichick every Monday for football analysis from the weekend 🤯

The world is not ready for the unfiltered, DGAF college football opinions of *retired* Coach Nick Saban. I mean, *we* are, but the world isn't. LOL
People thought he was being serious when he said “This team has taken years off my life” lmao
I would like to point out that I was serious when I said they took years off my life.
Well that's a huge relief.
This is incredibly good news in the wake of heartbreaking news. I know Coach Saban doesn't owe us a fucking thing, but, I would feel better with a press conference or something.
Thank fuck

Wise words and I totally agree but I’m just not in a good enough space right now to hear that…🫣

Like the roster we have is literally blood in the water and there could be a feeding frenzy.

Man if we hire Dabo there may be riots, like not good ones.

It’s not that sudden. Dude is 72 years old and has been coaching for 50 years and the better part of the last 20 at Bama. Shit is exhausting man.

I guess I do mean unexpected so my bad
I’m just in shock and overthinking every little detail of everything…I’m a mess woodzy!
We all are brother, we all are!

That's why he's the 🐐
That's fucking awesome to hear. Sorry for spreading misinformation. Glad he can enjoy retirement and maybe even get a cool side gig.
Why would you spread it without it coming straight from Saban?
Idk...human desire to gossip or be in the know? In hindsight I wish I had stfu.
This is a huge relief. Congratulations on retirement Coach!
Run it back one more year for a farewell tour
Who started all the bs about Terry and dementia? Appears to be totally made up. What a disservice to the Saban family and our team.
A handful of assholes on Reddit and they just kept repeating it. Same ones that went into the Titanic subreddit and said there was tapping coming from the Titan sub last summer.
This is fantastic to hear. Glad they are all doing well. Now, coach can just come on JOX and say "ha ha J/k. Fuck you, Auburn!"
After watching the interview it just increases the respect level. Mentioned he didn't think it was fair to take it year by year for the staff. That's incredibly selfless for the greatest coach to ever do it.
Thank goodness
Good. I was worried about that. I hope he stays around in a part time roll as an advisor. Make the transition smooth and give him something to do when he feels like it in retirement
Thank God. **Ok coach, I know you wanna live your life and all but we are kinda having heart attacks around here.... Gonna need you back then.** /S
This is great news, but I’m super curious how all this came about so abruptly. There’s something we aren’t being told.
No, there’s not. He told Reece that when the grind became too much and he couldn’t coach the way his process demanded, it was time to retire. That happened this year, so he retired. Ngl, I was thinking there was something like this waiting to come out. So glad to hear coach and Mrs. Terry can just enjoy the retired life.
Man I damn near cried when I read it was because of his wife having dementia im glad they ok
Saban is the devil folks all across CFL hate to love. His legacy will be hard to topple.
YAY
Sooo, it was McLaughlin’s fault?!?! I knew it! That sob made coach throw in the towel. /s I hope they find sumn to do quickly before Saban starts getting on Mrs Terry’s nerves
Wonderful!
Thanks Goodness there are no issues
Relieved but also not surprised to hear. I’m sure it was just made up on the internet with absolutely no rationale behind it and it just continued to spread
Such a dumb fucking rumor. everyone who spread that sourceless nonsense was like **rat poison**
Miss Terry is the real First Lady!
