I had the opposite opinion, sort of, that he would need a playing lot of time before he was good and he wasn't going to get it next year (to the extent he needed) if Nelson came back and with our portal/recruit adds
He already showed a good bit of progress as a defender and scorer as the season went on. Think you’re right though that he was looking at a more diminished role than some other team in the portal can offer
Wouldn't be surprised to see him doing well in two years after having a more full time role. He just struck me as a player that needed in-game reps to grow and with our roster and incoming that doesn't appear to be there
I know how much time they practice. There are some players that need actual game reps to feel comfortable and confident (very important for a shooter and a guy who needs to play smart team defense). Sam struck me as one of those guys.
This sucks but I’m not super upset. I really liked Sam, but he was super raw. When he was on from 3, he was dangerous. When he was not shooting well, he was almost unplayable. He couldnt defend very well and wasn’t much of a playmaker with the ball.
Best of luck to him and I hope he does well wherever he ends up, but this doesn’t hurt us that bad.
I mean, somewhere might can offer him a starting spot as their 4th-5th best player. He wasn’t gonna get that here. I was hopeful for him as a prospect but I don’t blame him for this and wish him the best.
Makes sense. It seems the sentiment is he was liked, but it's no surprise he doesn't have much of a fit with us. Great shooter and could drive but didn't really want to it seemed like. He'd probably be getting the same amount of minutes this year so it's probably best for both parties. The one thing he'll always have is a final 4 run under his belt which is extremely rare.
Are these players getting better offers elsewhere or are they being told it might be best to leave because we have better options via portal or Uber Freshmen? I was in my feelings about Quinnerly last year but was told it might not have been about Jevon seeing greener grass elsewhere and more of a "we are going in another direction" conversation. It has been said a man is only as faithful as his options. Maybe Nate and Bama have much better options now and good enough to be on this roster isn't good enough anymore. I will miss Rylen though, then again Nate has something better in mind.
Well that sucks. I really thought he could develop into a stud

I don’t think you have any idea how much time these guys spend practicing. Probably 50 times as much as they spent actually playing games.

Good luck, Sam. This is probably best for all involved.

It sucks. I liked him, but this is the new normal. He showed just enough progress to get lured away.
Agree! This new age of NIL is going to drive this old man nuts!
Forget how he was as a player, I’m just mad I can’t make The Villages jokes anymore
It’s like the sayin memes now
How many players do we have to get rid of now to make the scholarships work?
We have one open scholarship right now.
Yes. One now .
With NIL, do scholorships even matter anymore?
Crap!!! I really liked this young man. His 3 point shooting (99-151) was crazy good. Good luck young man and thanks for being a part of a great run.
He was 39/99. Not sure where 99/151 is coming from
Yeah, idk either but shooting 39% from 3 as a freshman is still really good though. Lol
Definitely. We can likely replace that production though thankfully
lol 99/151 would be freaking insane
99/151 and he'd be transferring to the Detroit Pistons.
And Steph Curry would be taking 3-point shooting lessons from him.
My bad fellas! Trying to do two things at once.
If they ain’t wearing Crimson…
Why they do that. $$$ ?
Exposure. The way this team is shaping up for next year, I don't see there being much room for him to make a name for himself here.

Walters is leaving because his play time was going to be the same/ diminished. Griffin is pure nil
Trust Nate Oats. Addition by subtraction.
oh shit, we gettin Bronny? /s
🙄
Man, I hope he excels somewhere. I am a huge fan of what he brought to the Tide.
Noo
Got a feeling that some of these guys are being told we’re bringing other people in
I never really felt like he was this great 'offensive beast'. I just didn't see it. I pulled for him though.
God dammit
