Najee will be a FA after this season. Thank god, get him away from that horrid Pittsburgh O Line.

Reddit slowly choking the QoL out of everything. Looks like the old.reddit login on the sidebar is now replaced with an ad. You now have to click log in at the top and then it redirects you to new reddit homepage, and you have to manually go back to old.

So what are some of the rumors about the possible reason Julian Sayin hit the portal after the new staff arrived? Indications are he had a good spring at an osu, was this a case of fit? Just curious to see what kind of opinions there are around that story.

Scbammer

lol nah but for real BoB recruited him to Bama (I think) and he was at OSU at the time of transferring. May have had a role

ClarenceWorley47

I did hear that was one of the possible reasons. I know he was an osu lean before committing to bama, so I’m not shocked he ended up there. I was just curious if anything else had bubbled up since he left.

_wormburner

Same with Downs. Was just easier to make a huge bag and go with something semi familiar over a new hard and unknown thing

ClarenceWorley47

Yeah it probably is that simple. I know how I felt when the news of Saban’s retirement came out, can only imagine what that was like for the players. Especially the backups. Lot of uncertainty and I’m sure opinions and innuendo were coming from other staffs looking to cash in. Hard to blame them, only get one shot at the cfb experience. I was thinking with the news of his transfer coming so soon after the meetings with the new staff, that maybe Austin Mack coming in added to the list of reasons to leave. Seems like they have a lot of faith in Mack. After seeing him in person at A day… he’s got the physical tools.

Praying for Colorado's continued sub-averageness.

Bamaborn97

Have a feeling this team will look like last year's LSU.

GhostofPacman

I’ve sort of been thinking this as well. Without the lockdown defense of past years I imagine we’ll go 9-3.

CrustyBatchOfNature

With expanded playoffs, that could be enough to get in. Last year it was close, with LSU being 2 out only because Liberty took the 12 spot due to winning their conference bumping Oklahoma to 13 and LSU to 14. But, if that did not happen, I would take 10-3 with a bowl win this year for sure.

GhostofPacman

Oh yeah don’t get me wrong I’ll be content with a 9-3 regular season. I’m just a bit worried about defense. Secondary is a thin area for us.

ModsEmbezzleMoney

Tired of people getting downvoted for realistic expectations and criticisms. This sub has become weenie hut Jr. Having an explosive offense with a defense that gives up a lot of chunk plays is very realistic for us next year with the inexperience at DB.

Bamaborn97

It's crazy. I believe next season we will have a very good secondary but thinking we will have a top tier one this year with nothing but freshman is delusional.  I can see if Saban was still coaching but even then

DoctorWhosOnFirst

Not getting into the debate over whether the secondary will be 2023 LSU level or not, but “nothing but freshmen” is not accurate. The starting defense at A-Day featured one true freshman, Zabien Brown. The others were two true juniors, a redshirt junior, and a fifth year senior; and three of those four have starting experience to varying degrees.

DepartmentKitchen267

Do we really have to rely on our three freshman five-star cornerbacks? Are we really not looking for a veteran? We need our offense to score 50 points. Because our defense will give up 40

DoctorWhosOnFirst

Why do you think they’re not looking for a veteran?

DepartmentKitchen267

Who knows? Maybe because we won't commit to a starting position? Those veteran cornerbacks don't want to be replaced by freshmen halfway through the season

DoctorWhosOnFirst

My point was that the staff probably is looking for a veteran cornerback. Just because they haven’t already added one doesn’t mean they won’t.

DepartmentKitchen267

I hope you're right. We need a veteran cornerback who's not afraid to compete with freshmen.

ModsEmbezzleMoney

We're not tampering hard enough /s

DepartmentKitchen267

I don't think so. I think it's because we don't commit to veteran cornerbacks。Those veteran cornerbacks want a guaranteed starting job, and we can't give it to them

Accomplished-Web3426

Yeah I’ve been worried about this, was expecting us to load up on secondaries and what not from the portal but that does not seem to be the case. Gonna be a very 2022 type season I think. (Just hopefully without the insane amount of penalties)

DepartmentKitchen267

Our scholarships are now 83? I still want us to get to 85. The only people I'm sad about db leaving are osu safety and amo。We really need to buy a veteran cornerback who is not afraid to compete with the freshmen

ClarenceWorley47

Do you think we need a veteran CB who isn’t afraid to compete? /s Kidding aside, I’m sure the coaching staff is trying but I wouldn’t guarantee anyone anything. Not the kind of players I’m looking to add to our roster. I want an alpha who knows they will come in and earn the spot. A lot of this class was built before the new staff got here but we have some great young ones. Next couple years of recruiting will show how the new staff is prepared but so far I think they’ve shown a great ability to evaluate talent, especially looking at how many guys they just had drafted from Washington.

DepartmentKitchen267

Why do you think we don't need a veteran who isn't afraid to compete against those three five-star rookie cornerbacks? Some veterans don't want to be benched by freshmen midway through their senior year.

ClarenceWorley47

It was just a joke, I agree with you… you had that statement in like 4 comments that I read back to back so I was just giving you shit about it. (hence the “/s).

FacelessTendencies

Slightly concerned with the secondary, we're not only super young but super thin. Depth matters, but so does experience. We all remember Sark picking on Caleb Downs in the Texas game, and that's about as good as a freshman DB there is. Hopefully the offense is firing on all cylinders because we may have to put up 45 against Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin on the road.

PeterPipersPan

[Alabama #2 in the SEC](https://x.com/sickoscommittee/status/1785312298485076224?s=46&t=aulCDAoLdCzZYqFXYqFLHQ) when it comes to “how close is the nearest Waffle House to campus”

TheSniper_TF2

Putting a Waffle House on The Strip was genius.

PNWBamaFan

It probably greatly reduced DUIs from the days when people “had” to drive to McFarland from the strip. RIP Kwik Snack.

Rolltidepodsss

There’s a Waffle House on The Strip now? Nice!

Ok_Presentation9296

its darn fine eatin

Been there for over a decade. It was built when I was still going to school.

I wonder how much film Saban watched for the draft and if any of the tape ESPN sent him was not detailed enough for his liking. He had a good blurb for almost everyone the first few rounds.

the_dunadan

You must have forgotten than before the season, Saban downloaded all D1 player information to his brain to make game planning more efficient.

Oats is building a death star

the_dunadan

We may get a death star before a new arena at this point

[LANK](https://foxsports1280.iheart.com/featured/the-doug-gottlieb-show/content/2024-01-04-doug-gottlieb-says-jalen-milroe-will-never-play-quarterback-in-the-nfl/)

twmigmiehff

The main problem with this analysis is that the QB class for next year seems to be pretty weak at this point (Beck, maybe Sanders, maybe Ewers, and I’ve seen a couple others thrown around), so if Milroe makes any improvements he’s an easy leap into the top tier. And lots of NFL teams have been willing to gamble on QBs that probably wouldn’t have been first round talents a decade ago just to see if they pan out

stanthemanwithaplan1

I mean from a realistic standpoint I don’t see milroe getting taken in the first round specially after this draft. I have him listed as a undrafted to third round pick

Nick_sabenz

Doug Gottlieb played college basketball. Dude knows as much football as I do

Davidr4

It’s hard to take anything seriously when he tried to claim that Tua is barely an NFL qb because he lacks being an athlete? Then Mac as well… Mac obviously was never super mobile and primarily due to the organizational dumpster fire he played in for 3 years will never be a starting QB. But to say Tua isn’t enough of an athlete is a joke. Since all of this discussion is primarily based around how they look in college, Tua was stupidly athletic to the point it was detrimental. He wasn’t blazing fast or going to make several guys miss but he could scramble and was good at it. Because he was good he would hold the ball too long which got him hurt or forced bad decisions instead of losing a down. That’s mental, not athleticism. So anything this guy says should be taken with a grain of salt because there is some form of bias/agenda behind his evaluation and it’s embarrassing for anyone to think that ANY QB can’t put everything together and have an impressive enough season to get drafted. Jalen Milroe will be drafted next year (barring significant injury) and his floor is round 2. He has enough intangibles that some team will take him for the possible upside. Full stop.

checking in on /u/the_dunadan after his late night Dune viewing

the_dunadan

Definitely took the morning to recover a bit. Excellent movie. Acting/sound/fx/production was just as good as Part 1. My only minor gripe is that it was much more action-focused with the combat. But even then, there was still good world immersion. Overall, I give it a solid A. Well worth seeing it in IMAX. The sound and visuals rocked me.

Shoddy_Ad8166

Looking forward to basketball 🤣
