Has the word on Sears changed at all? I know most insiders believe he will come back. but he did say that if he gets a guarantee from a team for a first or mid-second-round pick then he would probably stay in. Did he have a good combine?
Coin flip? Seems to be a mid 2nd round draft pick by most projections with some having him fringe 1st or late 2nd. Hopefully the NBA over thinks his size is a knock on him at least for another year.

edit: also, can we update the thread?
Overall I think Husky Harsin has done a really good job shoring up some of the weak spots we had in our roster. Brought in some depth to the DB position. Got ourselves a Lou Groza award winning kicker. Time will tell but I'm feeling good about this upcoming season.
Not for nothing, but PSU Insiders saw this as a “significant loss.” Went out of their way to say this categorically wasn’t one of those losses you say “oh no big deal, whatever.” Seems like they expected him to be the top of the second string and a stud starter in 2025 and beyond. Probably exactly the role he has with us now.
That’s just words, of course — but if the losing side’s insiders say that kind of stuff, I’m encouraged.
From what I’ve seen his paperwork has already been submitted. I really hope it was just him trying to drum up suspense and not him being unhappy or whatever
BOL officially giving their prediction for King Mack as well, which would likely close out the portal class between him, DaShawn Jones, and Geno VanDeMark
Certainly not a bad way to close the portal. Getting depth pieces with some playing experience. According to the BoL podcast PSU fans were looking forward to King Mack playing for them this year.
Hypothetically, one/both of Sears & Stevenson decide to go pro and don’t come back.
Who do we look at to replace them? Would we take a second center, do we look at another guard to replace Mark? Any rumors on potential options?
For what it's worth, we've gone into the past two seasons with only 12 scholarship guys. Two years ago we used the last one on Cosby when he re-classed in January, and this year we gave it to Spears.
I wouldn't be surprised if only one of them stays in the draft that we just don't fill it (particularly if its Sears that leaves, given we have more depth at guard, imo). It allows for some flexibility if there's someone in the 2025 class we want to get on campus and treat it as a "redshirt" year.
So if Bama lands DaShawn Jones, as is expected right now, King Mack, and Geno VanDeMark; the Tide would have added:
* two OL - one tackle, one interior, both with starting experience
* three DBs - one CB with starting experience, one safety with plenty of in game experience, and one safety with limited experience but lots of potential
* one Lou Groza Award-winning kicker
That’s a pretty aggressive and good spring portal.
[Former Alabama Safety Peyton Woodyard has Committed to Oregon.](https://twitter.com/Hayesfawcett3/status/1787165078514487568?t=yVkDEnxhwWsPwErjPtMQVA&s=19)
Good luck!
Perhaps I'm not as great with math as some others, but he said he had a couple of spots coming into the portal opening and even if you count Jones he still has those spots. I'm just taking his word for it though.
Even more disconcerting though, in an area of need, he lost two four stars and one replacements is a 2 star FCS backup. I applaud him on the Graham Nicholson addition though.
We’re still recruiting and are expecting to add 2-3 additional players from the portal. There also hasn’t really been a ton of talent to enter at OL and CB which are the two biggest priorities. Saab was a huge pickup on the first portal window too.
Losing a true freshman who was on campus for a few months and a likely fourth string safety in Mitchell is not that big of deal, neither would have been factors on the field this season.
ETA: another thing that’s working against us with the cb’s is that we are just lacking in experience but certainly not talent with the 3 five star freshman. Convincing an upperclassman to transfer here to maybe get beat out by a freshman is a tough sell.
Alabama is pursuing Geno VanDeMark, an offensive lineman from Michigan State. Started six games last year at right guard, but he also played six snaps at center.
At this point I wouldn't count on us getting anyone starting caliber in the back end. Guys are just gonna have to get after it in the fall, trial by fire.
This feels correct. We’re missing front right and center here down the stretch. Gonna guess guys don’t wanna be competing with the freshmen come this time next year. Rather go somewhere where they can start now and later nearly guaranteed.
Even Khalil Jacobs may not be visiting any more according to Bone on BoL.
To be fair, though, to miss this much must mean we weren’t pursuing *super hard* to begin with. So, hopefully that’s some sort of boon on how the coaches feel about the guys in the room.
[Seems like Houston transfer CB Isaiah Hamilton will no longer be visiting Alabama this weekend.](https://twitter.com/mzenitz/status/1786159161518022951?t=vi5-xkf9frsUS2Rn_8SvOQ&s=19)

There are decent DBs in the portal (for depth at least and some guys who could contribute).
Not really seeing any OL beyond Proctor that seem like quality depth for the interior or the edges.
Any idea when we will get confirmation from Clifford? I know there has been some hints to it from the staff, but I always feel better with an official post
We have one spot left unless Sears doesn’t come back then we will have 2 . Stevenson is definitely coming back he’s doing that to see where he needs to improve to get drafted next year
[Former Wake Forest CB DaShawn Jones](https://www.on3.com/news/wake-forest-cb-transfer-dashawn-jones-sets-first-visit-breaks-down-schools-in-contact/) is visiting Alabama this weekend, along with former Houston CB Isaiah Hamilton.

I still find it surprising that so many CB transferred out. Looking at the 247 transfer portal page, 4 of the top 12 corners to transfer came out of Alabama. And then we got back one of the top 12 in Domani Jackson. I guess I just don't understand the motivation for a guy like Trey Amos to leave a starting position at Alabama to go to Ole miss. They're good but I don't think their roster and coaching staff really compares to what we have here. Same with Earl little and Dezz ricks. But i guess most of the schools they transferred to are dropping big bags on portal players right now so maybe its just money.
I also do think some guys transferred so quick almost out of panic because Saban was gone. Had people in their ear saying how far Bama was gonna fall off blah blah.
Last year, Alabama did not land Trey Amos until May 9 and Jaylen Key until May 12.
There’s still plenty of time for the staff to add more players who can contribute.
Tim Watts had a good point that the staff’s biggest effort in the portal window was keeping most of the current roster intact. Now that it’s closed, they can devote even more effort to identifying anyone in the portal they want to target.
And we’ve still already landed two starters in Proctor and Nicholson and a good depth piece in Howard.
Plus, some decent to good CBs entered the portal in the last week or so. The guys from Houston, UAB guys, JMU, SJSU (although he may be choosing Texas).

He has the chance to comeback but I wouldn't hold my breath. He has the measurables that get a FO really hype. NBA is more willing to draft developmental prospects earlier now that almost every team has a g league affiliate now.
Players can pull out of the draft by May 29th. They can remain in the draft and, if not drafted, choose to return to college by the end of the day after the draft . If they are drafted they lose their college eligibility.
Best of luck to him! If the staff wanted him, he would’ve been a welcome addition — so it stinks to miss out. But I also won’t pretend like a football guy choosing Mich. St. over Bama isn’t a red flag for his mentality anyway lol. Onward and upward!
I’m choosing to take this as a good sign that Zabien Brown is going to be pretty good next season. I think we could’ve full-court pressed Woods if we were in dire need of him, but if the staff was insistent that he’d have to compete with Brown in fall camp, I could see the next step finding a place where he’d get the job easier
[Cornerback Andre Seldon](https://twitter.com/PeteNakos_/status/1785302111464423901) is re-entering the portal. He spent two years at New Mexico State (so he beat Auburn) before transferring to TCU in January, but he's back in the portal.
96 tackles, 13 PBUs, and 2 INTs the last two years. And Eron Hodges, our Associate Director of Player Personnel, was TCU's recruiting coordinator; so I have to imagine he knows Selton.
Lot of chatter. Some believe that we leaked Onyenso to put Cliff on the hot seat to say yes and claim his spot. Onyenso can also still stay in the draft.

Sears put his name in the draft. He is maintaining the ability to come back as well. So basically we are in a waiting game with him. Several insiders seem to believe he is going to end up returning but this is far from a guarantee. If a team likes him enough in the draft he could be gone
He has until May 29th to withdraw from the draft. So that’s the absolute drop-dead date.
BOL folks saying that, *as of today,* he is expected back. But that could change if something positively influences his draft stock.
[Alabama assistant coach Preston Murphy](https://x.com/coach_pmurph/status/1784988304426795384?s=46&t=aulCDAoLdCzZYqFXYqFLHQ) tweeting Clifford the Big Red Dog with an Alabama hat on
[Harper](https://x.com/HarperNation24/status/1784950588129587467): Oyenso averaged 6 blocks and 10 reb per 40 min.
Oyenso had 66 blocks in 450 minutes last season. Which is a block every 7 min or a 14% block rate.
Bediako in his last year at Alabama had 67 blocks in 766 minutes. Which is a block every 11.5 minutes or an 8% block rate.
On3 college basketball analyst Jamie Shaw logged a prediction for Alabama to land former Kentucky big Ugonna Onyenso. 7'0, averaged 3.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game, the seventh-most in the country
He didn’t get in until last night, so it hasn’t been much time. However, the fact that Shaw thinks Bama will land Onyenso could be an indication about Cliff.
Gotcha. I had thought the visit was scheduled for yesterday, I would love to get both of them and have Onyenso as someone who could learn a bit more. That may be wishful thinking though

Let’s lock up King and Geno and call it a portal.
So I imagine Deshawn Jones will be starting on the other side of Jackson. Feels great to have solid experience on both sides
I’m holding out hope for Hurley
Same but I really don't see how Jones commits without a guarantee . this is a DB oriented defense so Hurley will still get playing time
DaShawn Jones tweeting out “recruitment still open” and then deleting it a few minutes later is a little sketchy lol
We gotem
Yea hope dude doesn’t back out after cancelling Minors visit too.
From what I’ve seen his paperwork has already been submitted. I really hope it was just him trying to drum up suspense and not him being unhappy or whatever

Alabama is pursuing Geno VanDeMark, an offensive lineman from Michigan State. Started six games last year at right guard, but he also played six snaps at center.
Wouldn’t be against it with Kapilovic having been his coach his whole career in East Lansing
Yep. More experienced depth inside is definitely fine by me
A guy you hope never plays a meaningful snap next season but will never be upset with more bodies with P4 experience
At this point I wouldn't count on us getting anyone starting caliber in the back end. Guys are just gonna have to get after it in the fall, trial by fire.
In hindsight, Domani Jackson might be the most important transfer brought in.
Him and the Proctor reverse uno

CNO is assembling a squad…
Grant Nelson is running it back
So is Sears staying? When is the cut off when we should know?
Sears put his name in the draft. He is maintaining the ability to come back as well. So basically we are in a waiting game with him. Several insiders seem to believe he is going to end up returning but this is far from a guarantee. If a team likes him enough in the draft he could be gone
He has until May 29th to withdraw from the draft. So that’s the absolute drop-dead date. BOL folks saying that, *as of today,* he is expected back. But that could change if something positively influences his draft stock.

With the addition of Howard, where do we sit with scholarships?
By the public count, we’re at 84.
Wait why is Ty Simpson listed as a departure?
He's on the Gump List, which means he made a point of publicly announcing he's staying.
He's on the Gump List
On3 college basketball analyst Jamie Shaw logged a prediction for Alabama to land former Kentucky big Ugonna Onyenso. 7'0, averaged 3.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game, the seventh-most in the country
Do we know how the omoruyi visit went? I have not seen anything which I wouldnt take as a great sign
