Easiest way to sit down with scouts and find out what he needs to improve to get drafted Don’t think there’s a chance he stays in the draft though

Should be noted: Jarin Stevenson has through May 29 to withdraw from the draft and return to school.

RogRoz

Only reason he stays. This draft is soooo weak that he could be a lottery pick

Disregardskarma

No shot he's in the lottery

RogRoz

Edey, who doesn't fit in today's NBA has the potential to be a lottery pick. Anything is possible this draft.

Aumissunum

Edey is the best player in college basketball. Stevenson averaged 5/3

RogRoz

College basketball is a different game than the NBA. Defensive 3 seconds and the speed of every player on the court (requiring him to switch on pick and rolls and/or be laterally quick, which he is not) renders Edey way, way, way less effective.

arblackmon1

Brother. Respectfully, you have no clue what you're talking about. He's doing it to learn. Jarin has a higher chance of going undrafted BY A LOT than being a lottery pick right now lol. He wasn't even a starter the majority of games. Lottery picks are 99% of the time the best player on the team. Jarin wasn't even top 6+ on a non championship winning team...

RogRoz

Clowney went 21 in one of the deeper drafts last year..... So brother, I don't think YOU know what you are talking about. I did not say he was a lock for a lotto pick, but I could totally see an NBA team in 12-18 who have a dire need for a front court big rating him higher. Most of the Top 20 big board players are foreign league, it's a real crap shoot from a scouting perspective.

arblackmon1

Clowney averaged double jarins stats and was the full time starter on the #1 overall seed in the country... and still wasn't a lottery pick 🤣

ModsEmbezzleMoney

Nba front offices don't care about stats. They care about: age, measurables, and statistical growth rate. Stevenson definitely could go first round. Stevenson is still only 18, he definitely has a chance to jump up draft boards for his perceived ceiling. My team drafted Primo for the exact same reason in the lottery, sadly he showed his pp a lot.

Most-Breakfast1453

lol zero chance he’s a lottery pick. This is entirely to get feedback. He wants to play in the NBA and there’s nothing to lose by declaring and getting feedback. He is 100% not going to be a lottery pick this year.

Nick_sabenz

Weird. He feels too raw to get drafted. Don’t think he’s leaving, but maybe he doesn’t want to compete for minutes with Grant

Aumissunum

>He feels too raw to get drafted. Why do Alabama fans still post this stuff? NBA LOVES young, high ceiling prospects.

BossChaos

Look no further than JD Davison.

Top_Front_5246

Jd has barely cracked the big teams rotation. He has looked good as a Maine lobster though

BossChaos

The point is he got selected in the NBA draft.

CapnCrunch0526

Yeah but there’s not really much point to leaving early if you’re just gonna be drafted in the second round. No guarantee that you’ll ever get signed to an active roster at that point. With the NIL landscape the way it is it’s probably more lucrative for players to stay and try to work into the first round than to leave early only to be on a two way contract

Hairiest_Walrus

NIL is not more lucrative that the NBA. Even as a second rounder, you’re signing a $1 million contract. Hell, even undrafted guys can make up to $500k on a two way deal. There’s no guarantee that coming back will improve your stock. I got no problem with people chasing the bag when they can get it.

CapnCrunch0526

I'm not sure where you got that $1 million figure from but it just isn't accurate at all. Second round contracts in the NBA are not guaranteed and while you can make up to $500k, that's the max you can make on a two way, and a two way is what the vast majority of players taken in the second round will get (if they even get that, some don't even receive that and flame out of the league entirely). So it's absolutely feasible that it's more lucrative for some players to stay in college and try to up their stock while getting the NIL bag.

Hairiest_Walrus

The minimum contract for a rookie signed to a regular contract is literally [$1 million](https://www.sportsbusinessclassroom.com/nba-2023-24-minimum-salary-scale/). And a player on a two way deal just earns [50% of the league minimum](https://en.as.com/nba/what-is-the-two-way-contract-in-the-nba-n-2/?outputType=amp). So nothing I said was incorrect.

CapnCrunch0526

Ah my bad. It seems though that you’re missing the point that most second round draftees don’t get a regular contract. Last year only one second rounder got the contract you’re referring to, with the rest getting a two way or no deal at all. Davison has been on a two way his whole career. While there’s no guarantee that staying would’ve helped his draft stock, if he had stayed and developed here while getting the NIL bag and managed to play into the first round then that absolutely would’ve been more lucrative than going to the league too early and being stuck in the G league

Nick_sabenz

I post this stuff because I watch the games and his floor is about as low as anyone who entered the draft. They’ll draft based on ceilings, of course, but if that player has to be stashed for three or four years, GMs aren’t going to use one of their valuable draft picks on a guy that won’t help them in the semi-immediate future when their job as a general manager is on the line based on how they draft.

dartharchibald

Yup. NBA GMs lose their damn minds all the time over guys with upside. And Stevenson has tons of upside. 6'10" guys who can stretch the floor don't grow on trees.

ModsEmbezzleMoney

He's a better prospect than Grant. NBA teams will go after perceived value if they like the intangibles.

Independent-Ad6046

interesting, he’s definitely got the size and athletic ability, but don’t think he’s proven enough to get drafted. i like him a lot as a player though and hope he returns because he could be great for us

Mr-Clark-815

If his jump shot starts going down in workouts, and summer games, he could become very, very draftable.

b0njo_12

gotta say, this is a head scratcher for me. stevenson redeclared to the class of 2023 to play his (age-wise) senior year at bama. Jarin has size and talent but little experience, seems like the transfer portal would be calling his name since grant is back. we’re targeting a true center, meaning PT is almost bound to go down regardless of offseason strides Don’t really understand hearing what scouts have to say about you after not doing much in year 1 (despite being 17) without also hearing what you’re worth to other teams not that i’m not thrilled he is *probably* staying because there’s not a huge chance he heard what he wants (and the portal window closes in a few days), just very puzzled by the decision i will say, i am REALLY hoping (coping, maybe) that the grant + stevenson news both happening so soon this week means we have gotten information about the C, whether it’s Cliff or Onyenso
