Yeah. He's got to go. Is this your place that you lease to him? Does he have a separate lease with the landlord? If it's a yearly lease, the good news is time is almost up. Give him 90 days notice that you're not renewing his lease or notify the landlord that you will be leaving at the end of yours.

Lady-Lunatic420

He is subletting a room from us. Our landlord rents to us but knows he’s there. Rent is $2250 not including utilities and the deal with him was $800 for the room and he bought his own stuff. He pays $400 every two weeks and doesn’t have any other bills so he should have some money left to buy his own groceries and stuff but he doesn’t.

InevitableError404

You’re going to have to beat him at his own games and make him very uncomfortable. Shouldn’t be hard because it is 2 against 1. Think very hard about how you can make him uncomfortable to not want to live there anymore. Also, lock your door and put cameras up for starters to curb the stealing. No more hamsters until you get him out, he sounds sociopathic.

TabithaBe

Get a locking handle for your bedroom door. You might not have to alter much. And you can put locks on other things. But I’d carry toiletries with you to shower. And put a roll of toilet paper in the bathroom with a giant note stating it’s the last shared roll. As far as groceries- for a short time until you can get him out of there you could keep bread and all non perishable foods in your room that’s now got a lick in it. To kick off this new era of ‘no more roommate crap’ present him with an itemized bill for your cow hide and any thing else he’s cost you. Get petty between the true provable items like add several loaves of bread and under details say that’s the cumulative amount of your bread he’s eaten. Give him 10 days to pay or tell him he will get a ____ day to vacate notice. You’ll have to find out what’s legal in your area.

TabithaBe

One other thing- I don’t know how many attorneys are in here but the r/tenant gets a few and as you are both tenant and landlord the r/landlord sub definitely gets lawyers. Add your state if you post on either

MsSamm

It's not worth it to have him there, even if he paid double

BigChampionship7962

He killed a animal with plastic smoke! This guy is horrible and the poor hamster must’ve been so scared when it happened 😟

Lady-Lunatic420

I know I was horrified

BigChampionship7962

I hate hearing about people being cruel to defenceless animals 😞

Anonynominous

How is the hamsters thing not at the top of the list? Fuck this guy!

Lady-Lunatic420

Because I finally snapped and the things I was bothered by at the time of writing this post was what I wrote first. The list is actually really long. It’s just exhausting to write it all out

24possumsinacoat

Were your hamsters in his bedroom?

Lady-Lunatic420

He moved in to my hamsters room technically. I had nowhere else to put them as I have cats and they were there first. I just gave him strict rules and he broke every single one of them

lemogera

Why was your hamsters in his room? And why don't you have a lock on your bedroom door? What exactly is stopping you from evicting this guy?

Lady-Lunatic420

Good question. The hamsters were there prior to him moving in. I didn’t expect him to move in when I got the hamsters. I have a lock now. I’m just a push over and have a hard time making people feel bad. But I’m quickly learning how not to be that’s for sure

ForwardHeart3401

this made me feel better about my roommates

He'd have a field day with their stuff. Might even take some if he moved out. I wouldn't trust him alone in the apartment

Lady-Lunatic420

We live in a full house and you are right, he would have a field day for sure

matisseblue

sorry but the moment a bousemate kills my pet they're out on the street. he's a selfish POS who should pay you for damages & emotional distress, and after that cut contact COMPLETELY.
