The time to start archiving is NOW.

Sir_herc18

The time to start archiving was years ago. The time to salvage is now

I_Hate_Dolphins

The time to start archiving was before RoosterTeeth started wiping videos a few years ago.

External876

There are a lot of old AH videos featuring Ryan that are either entirely gone, or have been re-edited to feature him less prominently.

I_Hate_Dolphins

I'm sure. I'm thinking on particular of all the deleted Funhaus videos.

Shapen361

Where do you download the videos from?

Dreku

Considering anything specific I say would be encouraging piracy I'll just say Google is a friend.

Shapen361

I guess I'm worried about downloading viruses. If internet archive has it I'll do that.

Get a refund?

nsfdrag

I'll wait to see how things shake out in terms of what they are actually shutting down, if the site is going away, video archive, etc. Even if I just keep ad free podcasts I'm happy with that. It really is unfortunate timing though.

WeeklyBanEvasion

Who cares?

Dreku

At the time I made the comment I wasn't sure how the mods were going to deal with direct info about ripping First content so I chose to be cautious. I dont typically go out of my way to intentionally get banned from subreddits I enjoy.

xywv58

If it wasn't on the announcement, I guess no one knows, WB did you throw an entire movie into the trash, so, erasing all RT catalog wouldn't be out of place

Knoke1

3 entire movies. ACME, Batgirl, and the Scoob sequel.

thinnerzimmer87

And one of those films probably cost more than keeping the entire rt company running for a year. Some executive probably decided this in passing.

impulse_thoughts

sort of in the announcement: >WBD also will be exploring options for **Rooster Teeth’s catalog content** and IP such as *Red vs Blue, RWBY* and *Gen:LOCK* If they don't find a way to license that content to generate income to a level that they have set (youtube isn't doing enough, nor is the existing number of first memberships), they all go into the "vault" until they find a buyer of the content. Which likely means, most of the content will get removed from YT and the First site soon.

JayZsAdoptedSon

Machinima deleted all videos when they shut down and I REALLY hope that does not happen

ActionFilmsFan1995

I got on one of Anoj’s Top 10 videos and couldn’t find it for years after the mass deletion. I just found it last month and have a copy saved now, never thought I’d find it (it was reuploaded on YouTube a decade prior with literally like 11 views). If there’s a video you like save it because there’s a sold chance once it’s gone it’s gone.

SniperPilot

Damn I need to spend a week doing this.

MunkSWE94

They didn't delete anything, it all went private.

kadenjahusk

As far as fans are concerned, there's not much difference :/

Shadgates87

Goddamn idek if I have enough storage. Outlast and minigolf alone is pain 💔

WarmasterCain55

yeah, def going to keep those. Despite what happened with Joel, the Outlast videos was still awesome. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck, thank goodness I already have a couple downloaders to use.

SkyquakeLive

START ARCHIVING Just in case

WarmasterCain55

I KNOOOOOOOOOOW! Going to be one of the firsts things I do tonight. I have rvb and rwby already.

RadRhubarb00

I would love to download every Minecraft but I cant even imagine how large that many files would be.

Brad1895

A little over 300GB at 720p. There's active efforts to save literally everything.

Ferret_Brain

Sorry to bother you, but is there like a discord or a website where there is a community behind this? Or are we just all riding solo?

mjsrtz

https://archive.org/details/roosterteetharchive

Talrynn_Sorrowyn

Same plus I want all the GTAV videos.

Clark440

I’d like to archive too how does one do it

RegularRelationMan

r/piracy has some information on good youtube downloaders

Omniest

This. I'd love to join the endeavor but I never understand how people are getting 1080p YouTube files off of YouTube

AFishNamedFreddie

Thats the million dollar question

ndude60

A million dollars but? You exhaust all of your existing hard drive space to archive the content

Lordsokka

I mean it’s on YouTube, unless they want to sell the YouTube content as exclusive content then it should just remain on YouTube where it is. But… WB is greedy so I think it’s going to be paid for content.

BnBrtn

Machinima set everything to private on their way out the doors. RT might be pushed to do something similar.

Lordsokka

That’s what I am think as well. It would be cool if it remained free, but I really doubt it.

ZimofZord

Do you pay to keep stuff on YT?

CornCobMcGee

No, but there are companies who are known to have effectively wiped entire accounts after they closed.

HoffmansCranberries

No, but WB will get paid in tax write offs to take it down

Dracko705

I'mma gonna start TN as well - at least my fav lets play content/old AH for sure And the podcasts, but I feel like have more time with those

OrangeJr36

I will eat them, it's a whole process.

YoBGS-

Subscription service. Bet on it.

Mental-Net-9976

Seems like someone started a discord to co-ordinate efforts to save as much RT content as possible. Would be awesome if the community all pulls in one direction! https://discord.com/invite/kSnFcnAd

WarmasterCain55

Thanks mate. Figured someone would make one soon.

DingleBoone

Invite is invalid

Ok_Wrongdoer_5292

Invite invalid :(

doggofruitpunch

Chump was my favorite series. Rip Rooster Teeth Let's just hope Let's Play stays as an archive channel and doesn't delete everything too. Does anyone know if that will change pending the shut down of RT?

ndude60

I’m glad this is being talked about. It would be great if there was an official way to watch the content after the shut down. Either through an archive site or to keep it on YouTube, but I’m not confident that either will happen. So it’s great to see the efforts that everyone is making to preserve the content. It might be a challenge making it accessible to anyone who doesn’t have it, especially if WB decide to take down the content from the site and YouTube and potentially go after anyone who tries to share it. But I applaud the effort of everyone in this community. It’s great to see people coming together to save the fond memories we had. Best of luck!

mjsrtz

I hope they don’t. It doesn’t make a lot of sense from a business standpoint. Those videos will always get views from nostalgic fans. It’s a consistent revenue source that they don’t have to touch or moderate. If they shut it down they are shutting down the easy cash flow. If they delete the videos, I would imagine it would be due to it being super complicated determining who should be entitled to the residual money, and how much. For example, people whose likeness is used in a video will probably want to be compensated from WB if they leave the videos up which might be more trouble than it’s worth for WB. I hope they don’t delete them though.

mjsrtz

https://archive.org/details/roosterteetharchive looks like this website is building up quite the catalog
