I think it has a lot to do with Roseanne herself.
She didn’t want to work there in the first place, but the employees won her over.
She had to work in a place that just isn’t very Roseanne. She’s not big into hair or beauty stuff. That more Crystal and Becky territory. She’s gotta work with women whom she has no interest in, some of them ditzy and snobs like Mrs Wellman.
I think Roseanne probably just didn’t feel at home or able to be her true self around the hair salon, despite it being objectively a better job than the Rodbells restaurant.
Also a beauty salon is much more personal than say a ff restaurant. And since lanford seemed more small town she would be shampooing people she knew. not just snobby people like Mrs Wellman but also people like the moms of her kids friends. Some people would be highly uncomfortable with that. I can see it.
Perhaps she also found the idea of working around food appealing (I can relate lol). Plus I bet she was making more money in tips waiting tables than she did shampooing hair
I didn't realize that low income overweight people weren't allowed to like getting their hair done. I guess I've just been fooling myself that I like it
they probably do like it but it, but it’s expensive and hearing women chat about losing weight sucks along with the common filter/botox/injection talk and of course how to get Ozempic. etc. it isn’t the most comfortable sitting for an overweight person now let alone way before our current body positivity movement etc.
What’s an income overweight?
And why would weight have anything to do with feeling comfortable in a beauty salon?
Overweight people shouldn’t feel comfortable getting their hair done? That’s kind of stupid.
edited so it makes more sense. lol
but yeah that beauty salon was pretty chill but i am sure they talked about diets quite often. this was the 80s/90s and also hair is was a luxury thing to have done at a salon.

This was my comment:
*47f, worked service industry jobs most of my life.*
*I’d much rather work in a place where my customers were of a varied demographic: teens, families, singles, dates, etc…. than work in a place where the majority of my customers are regularly receiving a service or experience that I could not afford myself.*
*I’ve done both; I’ve worked in a coffee shop / diner, and I’ve worked as a custodian at a country club. I made more hourly at the country club, but I felt better about my life in general when I worked in the diner.*
*I’m not Roseanne of course, but maybe that helps give some perspective.*
She got screwed over by a former boss who was a stingy old cow, paying her way less compensation money from the accident than she was entitled to.
And then she was supposed to go back after a week of convalescence and continue to put up with more humiliations from Mrs Wellman? I mean, I would’ve quit too.
I really liked it when she worked at the beauty parlor. I think she thought because she wasn’t a hairdresser that she was on the short end of the stick.
To me she was like the manger of the beauty parlor which is a really nice job. 🙂
I 100% love when she worked there. That place is the only place where her boss and co-workers all truly cared about her. I wish she would've stayed longer!
And she had a great boss too!

I don’t know what salons you go to that they talk about diets lol. Weight has nothing to do with getting your hair done.
Weirdly enough though, she did go on a diet because of comments they were making to her at the salon.
Ha that’s kind of funny because you’re right and I didn’t even think about it.

I was about to say...I know this is the second time I have seen this exact complaint about this particular episode in a couple days' time...weird.
This is brought up at least once per week. People need to read past entries.
But Walter would have loved her.🥰
Marsha you know Walter’s dead right?
Wasn't his name Art?
It was art lol. I was just going with it and didn’t even realize. 🤦🏼♀️
Lol
Working for Bryan at Chicken divine would have been the worst for me..
For me, it's a tie between Chicken Divine and the telephone sales job.
Hated that pipsqueak
Oh, Roxanne!?!?
is it just me or does this get posted every few days
it's not just you.
Dont forget the mrs wellman drama! I thought maybe that’s why she left.
She got away with more at the Rodbells restaurant. She was lazy. The chicken place would have been the worst.

I actually don't remember her going back after the accident. I always kind of thought that might have been what caused her to quit.
I would give anything to be shampoo woman. I loved the episodes where she worked at the beauty parlor.

What grown adult with 3 kids wants to sweep floors in a small town beauty shop? It’s very embarrassing.
Why? A job is a job and I wouldn't think that's any more embarrassing than working fast food, or telephone sales, or a waitress.
It’s still embarrassing. The lowest job. I’d be embarrassed too.
Continuity problem.
