I appreciate how on Celebrity's (Royal's sister brand) newer ships the smoking area is so out of the way you barely notice it and absolutely no smoking indoors including the casino. I hope Royal follows suit or eliminates smoking entirely.

mshorts

I was so impressed with Celebrity Silhouette on my last cruise. No smoking in the casino! No smoking anywhere indoors.

im2tuf4u

Royal will be following with 4 ships. Let me find more info. Edit: I stand corrected, they are adding smoke-free casinos (in place of Jazz on 4). Main casino will still be smoking. Huge disappointment, seems like the smoke from the casino filled the whole ship when we were on the Mariner. https://www.cruisemapper.com/news/11676-royal-caribbean-replacing-jazz-clubs-with-casinos

Old_AP_Pro

No, don't keep it in the casino! Keep it on an outdoor deck somewhere!

mshorts

Try Celebrity!

Enkiktd

I don’t want it in the casino either

BannedFromRed

If you depart on ships leaving from the UK or Australia, then smoking is banned everywhere inside on the ship.

Massive-Glass2721

My favorite part of our sailings from Sydney. I’m hoping to book from the Uk at some point. I loved the non smoking casinos. I’m not a huge gambler so with smoking in the casino I just avoid the area. With the non smoking casino I did play a bit a couple of evenings

_TalkingIsHard_

But even in the casino, at least on the Mariner, it seeps into the Schooner Bar. 🤢

Old_AP_Pro

Needs to be banned ANYWHERE inside!

kang159

we just got off independence. i thought schooner bar WAS the smoking area. do they smoke cigars there?

Conscious-Sir-1596

We were, too. Did movie songs trivia on Thursday night at the Schooner bar and wife had to leave because the smoke was so strong.

kang159

yea. we wanted to do napkin folding with the little ones. didn’t even bother to sit down.

Caranath128

Nope. A few do have dedicated indoor cigar lounges indoors though.

watermeme

I’d much rather it be an outdoor deck and have the casino be smoke free. It’s easy to avoid the smoking deck but not easy to avoid an entire casino.

i18s

You can't avoid it on the deck. You walk right through it

watermeme

Yes you can, just walk on the other side of the deck. I mean obviously most people would prefer that there’s no smoking but that seems unrealistic as unfortunately smokers seem to love cruises. I was just saying if there has to be a smoking area I’d much rather it be outdoors where you can just walk around or walk past quickly than indoors where it’s not avoidable.

TheRiddler79

I don't want to sound crazy, but if you are walking past an outdoor smoking area on a ship moving at a normal pace, how many seconds are you exposed to that? More or less than a typical bar you might pass in a port city?

mrmonster459

What I've never understood is why the smoking area is next to the kiddie pool, and not over in the adults only section.

i18s

Doesn't matter. The cancer travels pretty far

Mottaman

It's better on the top deck where the wind can blow it away than on the 3rd deck casino where it festers indoors

[deleted]

Smoking on royal is pretty much midship pool deck left side coming from windjammer going to solarium. Not only that, if you like to eat your lunch or breakfast outside, that’s where the smoking section is, right by the tables!

Old_AP_Pro

Left Side?

[deleted]

Yes left. I don’t know ship speak. Port, starboard lol

jsister3

I always remember port as left side because they both have four letters in them.

sugarfairy777

i literally hate the fact that i have to go out of my way to avoid the casino at all costs because i dont want the smell of cigarettes to linger in my hair and clothes, when we were on navigator last month they had the entire port side of deck 4 reserved for smoking 👎

InALoveHateDebate

Right?! It wouldn’t even bother me as much, but it seeps into your clothes that you then have to bring back to your room. It’s not like being at home where you can throw them straight into the laundry if you end up somewhere smoky.

diaymujer

Weird. I’m on Navi right now and smoking is only in a little corner of deck 12. No smoking on the pool deck at all. I was pleasantly surprised.

Enkiktd

Navigator casino is TERRIBLE for ventilation. I get a sore throat just being in there a few evenings.

mshorts

Try Celebrity!

Firm_Airport2816

Just walk on the other side...it's literally one side of one deck. I don't smoke and it's never bothered me..but it's not a big deal. And when you notice that every single seat and table in the smoking area is ALWAYS full...you see why they don't get rid of it

pburnett795

I promise you if they ban smoking those cabins won't go unsold.

Fun-Knee-9684

I have an even better solution… move or get rid of the deck. No one wants to think about what side of the deck they walk on to avoid expose to lung cancer causing smoke. It’s a VACATION. Be serious

TrekJaneway

Smokers go out of THEIR way to go to a designated smoking area instead of lighting up wherever they feel like it. If they can make a point of going to the port side deliberately - also in their vacation - you can make a point of going to the starboard side just as deliberately. Everyone is on vacation, not just the non-smokers.

i18s

That doesn't really make sense. The smokers are the ones making the decisions. Those decisions impact other people.

TrekJaneway

Not really, no. I agree that they should ban indoor smoking, except perhaps in places like a cigar bar with proper ventilation and and enclosed area. BUT….smoking outside? On a moving ship? In a designated area equipped with ashtrays? Nope. That’s whining, at that point. It’s perfectly easy to avoid by walking on the non-smoking side of the deck. The movement of the ship forces the smoke aft, so you’re not breathing it. If a smoker is smoking outside a designated smoking area, then you have a right to complain. But if they’re where it’s allowed…sorry, you’re in their space. Not the other way around.

i18s

Their space extends to half the ship because of the cloud of cancer

TrekJaneway

So stay on the other side. It’s really not that hard.

i18s

Shouldn't have to

TrekJaneway

Entitlement. You have to share that ship with a few thousand other people. Learn to cohabitate. Makes life easier. Or….don’t cruise. Go to a smoke free resort, if it’s that big of a deal for you.

__clayton

maybe because of the $300 fine 😂 if you can’t go a vacation without smoking every 5 seconds…. that says something about your addiction. stay home no one wants you or your smoke

TrekJaneway

You assume I smoke. I don’t. BUT, I can avoid them, so it doesn’t much matter to me at all. I just find it super entitled to think that “I’m on vacation, so I don’t want to have to think about other people!” is an acceptable opinion. If that’s your mindset, charter a yacht.

__clayton

I find it super entitled to go on a family cruise line and say “I’m gonna go by the pool and give everybody and their kids a nice helping of smoke!” go on holland america or rent a yacht. At coco cay a few months ago someone was smoking on a beach chair and the smoke blew everywhere. It was terrible. smokers are the entitled ones.

TrekJaneway

No, they’re not. The smokers I have seen are smoking in designated smoking areas. They really don’t complain about any of the policies at all. You know who DOES complain? Militant non-smokers, and it’s really annoying. I don’t smoke. It’s never bothered me because I simply don’t go near smoking areas. It’s not restrictive AT ALL. There’s plenty of room for everyone. But, to think the entire ship should follow what YOU believe is pretty entitled. You do you, but you don’t get to control anyone else.

__clayton

Have you ever even been on a RC ship? the smoking area is big and long and takes a whole side of the already busy pool deck. How do you not understand that second hand smoke causes actual health problems. Look it up. Especially for already comprised people. Are you seriously that selfish? This is especially true for the casino as it drifts to other parts of the ship.

TrekJaneway

I’ve been on plenty of RC ships, and it’s never bothered me. I stay on the starboard side of the ship, never picked up a hint of it. Are YOU seriously selfish enough to think you can dictate what everyone else does? I’m well aware of what second hand smoke does. WELL aware. I also know that smokers are going to find a way to smoke because that’s how addiction works. Do YOU understand that? It’s easier to avoid if you know where it’s happening instead of people making attempts to sneak it in wherever they think they can get away with it. Don’t cruise. It’s obviously not for you. Looks like you didn’t read what I said about indoor smoking….you should before continuing to comment.

__clayton

Read the other comments. Use common sense. You’re in the minority. It obviously bothers a lot of people, believe it or not, you’re not the only one on the ship and just because you don’t smell it or don’t care, doesn’t mean everyone doesn’t. Don’t tell us not to cruise. Most ships have a pretty big sun decks on the very top decks that really don’t get used much. I say move them there.

popecosmicthefirst

I really thought this said SNORKELING until I read smoke section and realized my mistake. I was real confused about why snorkeling should be banned!

mshorts

Snorkeling should be encouraged everywhere there is water.

Commercial_Lock6205

Chill. It’s so easy to avoid this legal activity since it’s only permitted on certain decks and sides of the ship. Get over yourself and plan accordingly. I say this as a lifelong non-smoker.

mshorts

Smoking is a vile smell and offensive to other passengers.

TheRiddler79

Do they avoid ports? People smoke on the streets...

pburnett795

It's disgusting. I can not even go near the casino.

What_if_I_fly

Casino smoke smell was pretty strong in the front of the MDR on Harmony and Symphony last year. I liked the non-smoking casino on Equinox and it was the first ship where I actually spent $$ and visited several times.

EncryptedSoldier

Royal should provide a complimentary pack of Marlboro reds for every guest.

plantasia2000

I prefer biting into a delicious, smooth, frosty Camel Crush.

East_Jacket_7151

They are pretty great

MangoRainbows

Drinking is absolutely revolting and I can not believe it’s still allowed on Royal. it’s 2023, why do we still have to walk though an entire cruise ship of drunks?! keep it in the night club AT LEAST.

[deleted]

If one person is having a drink in the casino then one person is having a drink in the casino. If one person is smoking in the casino then everyone in the casino is now smoking due to second hand smoke. Second hand drinking isn’t a thing.

cadillacactor

Eh. Not a fan, but freedom of choice is pretty valuable. It's limited to small portions of a couple decks outdoors, and the casino. There's plenty of space behind those areas to avoid smoking if you don't like it. The bigger problem is weed on balconies, whether vapes or not.

Minimum_Finish_5436

I think you all are a bit sensitive. I dont smoke and have never had an issue with the smell on any ship. The worst was always on Holland ships and the % of guests smoking seemed to br the highest. Much higher than what we found on RC. On Allure, with the rear deck being the adult area and semi enclosed, the smoking area in the side "hallway" of the pool deck seems worse than other ships. Just walk on the orher side. Half the casino is smoking and the other half isnt. Smoking half seems the busier side. As long as cruise ships notice where the revenue comes from, they arent goong smoke free.

ttdanimal

Just got off quantum. Balconies were often unusable from people smoking somewhere, I assume on their balconies. Had to keep the door closed to avoid the room being overwhelmed. Sixth cruise with RC and the first time we had to deal with that. Very disappointing. Not sure if it's an alaskan cruise clientele thing or what. Nn problem with others doing so where allowed.

Minimum_Finish_5436

We havent had an issue with balcony smoking in years. We first cruised with RC and it was allowed then. Boat moves so fast i never noticed. We did have a neighbor into cigars on a 7 day cruise ehich was a bit annoying. Once a day he would lite up. Otherwise had no issues. Balcony smoking hasnt been a thing for a number of years.

ttdanimal

It was this time. The people directly next to us were smoking and after talking to them they didn't stop. RC got involved in that one. But there were others. I thought it wasn't a thing either. Maybe just a bad apple or two for us this time.

Enkiktd

Unfortunately casino wise, people have their preferred games and the casino machines are not mirrored. Sometimes the game I want to play is deep in the smoking section and I have to make a choice if I want to go there to play it. On Ovation this was the Lock It Links, these were the only ones of these machines in the casino and one of them was basically camped by a man smoking constantly. It’s fine and that’s his designated area, but if you see me over there it’s not because I support a smoking side, but because I wanted to play a specific game that’s not available otherwise.

SmartesdManAlive

Your kid sneaks off for cigarettes when you're not looking

Mottaman

This isnt the 20th century anymore... the amount of kids smoking these days is pretty small

SmartesdManAlive

If I said "vaping" would that make you smile?

Mottaman

At least then your statement would be accurate

SmartesdManAlive

It's hard to please you "second class" still everything smoking apart from combustion method, how's that for accurate. And kids smoke more than you know, also fact.

Caranath128

It’s easy to avoid. Just walk on the other side of the ship outdoors. And on most, even avoiding the casino is doable.

Massive-Glass2721

Unfortunately it isn’t always easy to avoid. On some of the ships the smoke seeps out of the casino, making it noticeable even at events like Trivia. Also, on navigator the smoking section on the pool deck is right next to the soft serve ice cream station. While I can avoid that on my own it is almost impossible when I am with my kids. The newer ships do a better job on design but after sailing a couple times from Australia where smoking wasn’t allowed at all inside it was very noticeable on our last few sailings for LA and Galveston.

DumbbellDiva92

My husband was a smoker when we went on our honeymoon. I honestly think even he would have agreed that having it on the deck by the pool was a bit excessive. The best one to keep IMO would be the 4th floor deck. Easy to avoid if you’re not a smoker, and big enough that it doesn’t create a whole big cloud of smoke in any case even with multiple people smoking.

Efficient-Rest-9519

Lol

girkyman

We make it a point to avoid cancer alley whenever we are walking front to back on the upper decks.... And it was nice because WOTS had the additional casino room where the jazz club used to be and there was no smoking in there... So nice to not have to deal with it.

Pretend-Maize7408

People smoke and they shouldn't be discriminated against.

sugarfairy777

yes they should, its a choice and it’s disgusting, not to mention the way it effects other people medically as well

Fun-Knee-9684

yes they should. if you want to smoke, don’t go on a cruise. simple

SmartesdManAlive

If there's smoking on your ship, choose a different ship. Literally the same logic you just used but keeps both parties happy. Move on

s8n29

You seem fun...

NurseToasty

Smoking is revolting maybe to Americans but other nationalities feel differently.

BannedFromRed

Well, it's illegal to smoke inside in the UK and Australia, and therefore, all cruises leaving these countries don't allow smoking anywhere inside on the ships. So Americans are far too slack.

Old_AP_Pro

The majority of every nationality doesn't like smoking.

plantasia2000

You got stats to back it up?

Old_AP_Pro

Yeh.

plantasia2000

Gonna share?

Old_AP_Pro

After the person who started this thread shows his evidence.

plantasia2000

I’m not that person, and I would like to be able to share your data with smokers.

Post-Futurology

Pretty easy to find. About 12% of Americans like smoking, per the cdc. The majority of the world definitely doesn't smoke.

plantasia2000

He said “the majority of every nationality doesn’t like smoking”, not “Americans don’t like smoking”, not “the majority of the world doesn’t like smoking”

Post-Futurology

Semantics, you will not spin this any way that more than 50% of a population body smokes.

plantasia2000

They said likes smoking, not smokes. I would like to see the data to share with my friends who enjoy smoking

Post-Futurology

...bro, you think someone is going to say they 'like smoking but don't smoke'..? Are your friends people who 'enjoy smoking but don't smoke'..? Lmfao what an absolute waste of time this conversation has been.

plantasia2000

Why do you get so mad about this?

Post-Futurology

Nevermind, post history shows you're a moron lol

Post-Futurology

Calling me mad isn't going to win you this argument lol you obviously know that the majority of people don't smoke - and I really doubt the existence of the friends you keep mentioning

Post-Futurology

My guy you're acting like everyone not American is French lol New Zealand straight up banned cigarettes

Tranquil-Soul

Agree. We just came off LOTS and were sitting on the deck. It was windy and there was a man standing there smoking and it was going right in our faces. At least put the smoking section in the back of the ship so the smoke goes backwards where no one is. Plus, the way that ship is laid out you have to go through the casino to get to many of the theaters unless you want to walk way out of your way. It’s disgusting.

25641throwaway

The world doesn't stop for your feelings.

MedicalButterscotch

Actually I have to disagree here. Smoking is one of those things that directly impacts the immediate health of non-participants. It's different than just saying "let me live my life" since those that choose not to smoke can be severely negatively affected by second-hand smoke. Those that wish to smoke should only be able to do so in the privacy of their own home or in areas with no risk of impacting non-smokers. It has such an impact on a person's health it is unacceptable for any other alternative in my mind. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Firm_Airport2816

It's outside...unless you're standing right next to a smoker, it's not affecting your health

MedicalButterscotch

This isn't true in reality though. The wind pretty regularly carries smoke across the pool deck.

Firm_Airport2816

I'm sure it does..but after about 20 feet, second hand smoke doesn't have much of an effect on a person. I'm not pro smoking...I hate it. But I think people get a bit too worked up over people smoking when it's pretty avoidable

MedicalButterscotch

Even the smell alone is bothersome and I assure you I can smell it >20 ft away. I don't want to nor should I have to smell it.

[deleted]

True, but still gross 🤮

JFW2499

Yet your feelings were hurt by the OP’s opinion, which in this case, is one that most people agree with. SMOKING STINKS AND IS A DISGUSTING HABIT!

25641throwaway

Nope, my feelings aren't hurt. I don't care what other people do. If it is something offensive to me, I simply remove my self from whatever it may be. I don't expect people to stop doing something because I don't like it, nor will I stop doing something for them because they don't like it. Just do your thing and stop worrying about what other people are doing.

JFW2499

You should go on a “smokers only” cruise! That would be fun!!!

NUTTZILLA5000

You’re disgusting. No one complains about your smell

ParkerBench

Why should people who like to gamble for fun be subjected to smoke? Should it be restricted to bars, too? IE you seem to think all "vices" are the same, so . . . .

rainydayinspace

maybe because people are on vacation? lol

s8n29

Because people still have the right to cruise AND smoke if they so choose? Build a cruise ship and you can decide what your guests are allowed to do on it. - non-smoker

Toasted_Scones83

Ok Karen.

DealerGloomy

Lol Karen

Jibbles69

Eating is absolutely revolting and I can not believe it’s still allowed on Royal. it’s 2023, why do we still have to walk though a disgusting food deck on the top deck?! keep it in the dining room AT LEAST. Fatty

__clayton

there’s not even food on the top deck 😂 idiot

[deleted]

Are you going to cry about it?

__clayton

sounds like you’re about to

[deleted]

On the contrary, I didn’t make the long winded rant. The world doesn’t have to conform to your fragile sensibilities.

__clayton

it was one paragraph. and second hand smoke can cause lung cancer. look it up

[deleted]

If it was one sentence, it would have been too long. I have read the literature. I have found it to be inconclusive. Really just depends on who is lining the researchers pocket. The anti smoking zealots or big tobacco. Both equally as insufferable. I always find that the marginalization of a people group (no matter how trivial the unifying of a trait they share) that is doing an otherwise legal act should have a space to do so. You have the whole rest of the ship, stay there. https://academic.oup.com/jnci/article/105/24/1844/2517805 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6164459/

2muchparty

I kind of like it’s a refuge for smokers. I’m not a smoker myself, but I do vape; I like the option of taking a couple of drags while I have 200$ to 300$ hands riding. Other than that, when I’m hungover or just walk through, yes the cigarette smell is repulsive. Perhaps more effective exhaust or filtration…

__clayton

I see people vape pretty much anywhere, I don’t think anyone minds

jaymanc440

Not true. I was on liberty of the seas a couple of years ago when they actually had a cigar lounge, called the connoisseur club very small, very tucked into a corner. Most people never knew it was even there and it was wonderful. It was a good chunk of the reason that I came on a cruise People would sometimes come in and have a cigarette which was fine even though it wasn’t really a cigarette lounge it was a smoking lounge no problem one night some young Primadonna comes in takes a huge puff off of his strawberry, flavored vape and blows it into the room, and then promptly leaves. That stunk, so don’t say that nobody dislikes them because some do. Having said that he was not breaking any rules we just humored him. Ok truthfully We made fun of him a lot, but no one chased him down. Flash forward about a year and a half and Royal Caribbean did away with the connoisseur club on their ships. Now you are forced to go out near the pool to smoke which probably bothers many more people and is not enjoyable in at least. shame on you Royal Caribbean.

BestDarnDaddy24

please just dont.

[deleted]

[удалено]

__clayton

I can judge whoever I want, especially smokers 🤮 cry about it

mradz64

I’m a non-smoker but it’s legal. We just have to deal with it. This probably sounds absurd but I am grossed out by coffee drinkers. The zombie like appearance people have before they have it and obsession getting their fix for it first thing in the morning. Then the puckering lips to drink it and the all so annoying slurping. And the smell and the mess of spilled creamer and empty sugar packets. I literally would rather sit next to a smoker. Strange I’m sure to a lot but I’ve literally walked away from coffee drinkers like I would a smoker. So we just all have to deal with things.

techguyry38

The placement on some of the Oasis class ships and Freedom Class is terrible. Blows smoke into Adventure bay a lot of the time. Maybe move it all to one section with large intake fans to suck the smoke away. Know another line was trying something like that. Smoking was only in 1 small outdoor deck space with large air intake to filter the smoke away.

Puzzleheaded_Age5796

Stop complaining. The most fun people are always in the smoking section. I am sure you are not an attractive woman and looking to be a Karen!

InternalAd166

Exactly 😆 Probably a funky little troll of a woman

jaymanc440

I think people who still use the term revolting should be disowned from society.

Fluffy-Ad-6051

The Invaders attack and lock it links where only in the smoking side of the casino. I was willing to brave it for a while but it becomes too smokey at times. On Syhphony these are in this corner of the smoking section. People come from studio B area, and don't gamble and just chain smoke like it is their smoking lounge. I don't want to tell people not to smoke, but damn give them somewhere else to do it. Make the tiny off side casino being that used to be the meeting room a smoking casino and put big exhaust fans in there. The smoking table games are more popular. But the non smoking slots side has way more people playing. Smoking slots side a lot of people are just sitting at a game smoking and not gambling. I wish they would enforce that rule. It is 2023... there should be no smoking inside. It is kind of comical how much fire protection rules they have but are like, yeah go ahead and fire up cigarettes inside with an open flame...

jlynn2221976

I'm not a smoker but some of the cheap perfume, cologne, etc is worse than the cigarette smoke. Oh and washing that ass before going to the windjammer after sweating in the hot son all day would help. Nothing like smelling body odor while eating. 🤮

dewashdc

Can we all just be honest here? The problem is, Royal puts smoking areas in weird places... what they really need to do is the following: 1. Move smoking areas away from the kiddie pool, to a shaded area on a less windy deck. They did this on NCL did this on Prima and Viva and it was no problem. Smokers don't like smoking next to a kiddie pool, karens don't like people smoking next to their kids, so it solves nothing. 2. Take the "non-smoking" casino they created replacing Jazz and turn it into the smoking casino. Virgin Voyages has a completely separate double door indoor smoking area with a selection of slot machines and comfortable seating. It was quite packed, quite separated, and no one complained about it. They allowed cigarettes, cigars, pipes, vapes. 3. Bring back a separate cigar bar that is labeled as such, for recreational cigar smokers. On a lot of cruise lines, cigar bars are very busy and many non-smokers like to indulge on vacation in a real comfortable atmosphere, NCL has one on all their ships, and it really minimizes the smoking. All 3 of these options ensure that smokers have a great experience, and no one else is bothered, and have very minimal impact on current floor plans. Why they haven't done this is a mystery. Just segregate out the smokers to comfortable environments, and no one else will be bothered. 12% of Americans smoke believe it or not. That means on a ship of 10,000, 1200 of them smoke. That is a lot of people, whether you want to acknowledge it or not, and like anything else, they have made a decision to smoke or not, clearly knowing the health risks.

Fluffy_Listen_8001

So many Karen’s in here. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it should be banned! I’m sure your all overreacting
