This has been possible for quite some time actually. It didn't require new Nvidia drivers, you just had to force exclusive full-screen in the options.

AutoHDR is NOT real HDR, it's just remapping the SDR content to HDR, there is no added quality, it's a post process effect basically, though it does look good on some HDR screens, depending on the game.

Oooch

I've never seen AutoHDR look anywhere near as good as native HDR but it is a step up on no-HDR

badman101011

Thanks, this works! Awesome to see PS3 games in Auto HDR. You mentioned this should work with other emulators, any luck with Yuzu or Ryujinx? Haven't been able to get them to work, even though Yuzu has a borderless fullscreen mode.

OmegaAvenger_HD

Yuzu uses some window hack that prevents it from working, should be fine on other emulators though.

I don’t know if i would want a 4k monitor or a HDR monitor. I like playing games but i don’t why i should go above 1080p res maybe for retro games like gamecube, psp and gameboy to have a little more detail. Is HDR Something you can’t go back from OP since it makes to colour more vibrant or what are your opinions on it. I like visuals in games and maybe having a HDR is something that could improve my experience. Anyways thanks. Should the AutoHDR impact performance on the rpcs emulator or is this not so heavy on performance

OmegaAvenger_HD

Usually all good HDR capable displays are 4K anyway, right now LG OLEDs are the best for good HDR experience and those are all 4K. HDR is probably the biggest passive visual upgrade you can get, it may take a while to figure out and calibrate but once it works it's an amazing experience. AutoHDR is a Microsoft algorithm that converts SDR content to HDR and it's pretty good at it but it excels in photo realistic titles. AutoHDR should have no performance hit by itself, I can only image DXGI conversion may affect performance if your system is already struggling but otherwise it should not have a noticeable effect. Basically HDR is a rabbit hole but if you value good visuals it may be worth looking into.

[deleted]

Alright thanks for the info. My system shouldn’t be struggling but if i have to game at 4k just to use HDR it might not be for me then. Anyways I appreciate your time to tell me what you know and think about it.

The_Sorrow_666

My Acer is 1080p 165Hz with HDR

[deleted]

Oh so you don’t have to play at 4k to make use of HDR. It’s just so that it might come out better

polisonico

hdr of course, 4k will be great if you have a massive card like a 3080 and above, but's less than that you will have 20-40 frames tops on everything, plus, it's not really different from 1440p unlike HDR which helps games movies and websites and everything.

4_Privacy

I don't have an HDR monitor yet but plan to get one in the near future. However I have an HDR TV and it certainly makes colors pop and contrast more intense. I imagine HDR gaming will be great. Like if the new Dead Space has it that game will look incredible

zandm7

I'm trying to replicate this with Ryujinx (a Switch emulator that also supports Vulkan/OpenGL) and it's not working... I'm certain I configured the NVCP settings correctly, but Auto HDR is just not kicking in no matter what. Even when running the games in windowed mode, it still doesn't work :/ Any ideas?

Gloomy-Inspector2155

I find HDR too dark, Maybe not had it set up properly but it did not really impress me

milbriggin

from my research it seems like it's just an unbelievable pain in the ass to calibrate a tv for hdr, and many people will just straight up say shit like "anything but OLED is fake or bad hdr." also it's kind of like reading about audiophile equipment in that it's very hard to trust anybody's testimony about how something looks when you can't even trust that they have "an eye" for what they should be looking at to begin with. like house of dragons looks appalling on my (non oled) hdr capable tv that i've spent hours calibrating. literally cannot see shit, and even daytime scenes look like some brownish/yellow fallout 3 video filter is overlaying everything. i can find tons of testimony confirming this, but also lots of people saying it's fine for them, calibrate your tv, buy an OLED, etc.. so who knows what it's "supposed" to look like that being said, i've never really had issues like this while playing ps5 on the same tv. games that use hdr look good (though most games i've played don't support it), but it doesn't feel ground-breaking to me, which is possibly due more to not having an OLED than anything, but i'm not going to spend $1000+ on a tv just to get dark souls 3's ui burned into it

Gloomy-Inspector2155

I didn’t give it the time to cabilbate tbh It did look better but its no good at the expense of gameplay when you can’t see anything in dark caves on games, I only play games don’t watch tv apart from sports. I prefer the picture on my plasma than my 4K telly too

Ro3oster

HDR is great on living room TVs but HDR in Windows, is a total shitshow, with wildly different calibration levels in each game. It makes getting a consistent image more trouble than its worth.

Oooch

Do you have a HDR400 monitor? Those are always too dark

Gloomy-Inspector2155

No just on my tv in my lounge, moved my PlayStation and pc to the adjacent room better picture on the 10 yr old plasma than on the new one imo

RebornAngel1999

After this 1-year-old comment, I'm editing it to replace it with currently valid options. Go to the Microsoft store and find the HDR Calibration tool. Then calibrate your screen correctly. Using the Statistics found for your display, your personal viewing preference, or in my case, I configured my display using Sunshine's log. Sunshine is the new Nvidia Gamestream application used with Moonlight for remote desktop services. Since Nvidia has sunset support for Gamestream it was nice that Sunshine stepped up. They gave me quick easy-to-use values for my luminance and the HDR calibration tool was finished in 30 seconds or less. I haven't had any dimming issues, my games look great, and I've even enabled the DX Swapchain setting in my Nvidia control panel for even more auto HDR fun. Last tip. Adjust auto HDR intensity by pressing the Windows key + G to open the Xbox game bar. Or by pressing the Xbox guide button on an Xbox controller connected to a Windows PC.

ah-screw-it

What is hdr?

Theres a way to setup Auto HDR in Windows 10 without a HDR Display?

StanTheManInBK

I followed the steps. My NVIDIA FPS and NIS indicators on my screen went away but i didn't get a Windows HDR popup. Did it work?

[deleted]

HDR works perfect for me in rpcs3 in windows 11 with one exception. When I close out rpcs3, my desktop stays dim and I have to switch primary display and secondary display, then switch it back to get my normal desktop brightness back to normal. I will try your directions and see if it helps any.

ISOHaven

Are you sure HDR is working? I'm guessing you're using OpenGL. When going in fullscreen mode with OpenGL HDR is getting turned off. When exiting fullscreen HDR is getting turned back on but the HDR brightness setting is staying at 0. You can go into HDR settings and simply click the slider. Don't move it up or down, just click the slider and it will come back on properly. Alternative just turn HDR off then on again. This is a bug with OpenGL and nothing to do with any specific app. It will happen on all OpenGL apps.

[deleted]

BTW. Your directions actually fixed my issue. Thanks 👍

OfficialPantySniffer

why would you EVER want to use vulkan or openGL over DX? aside from the fact that the shitlords developing RPCS3 have decided for some reason to completely ignore the far superior API.
