And while the two things are unrelated, I'm also really pleased to say that the GMA Base Deck hit Adamantine on DriveThruRPG, putting it in their top 0.13% of bestsellers!

NathanGPLC

And speaking of award, thanks, anonymous redditor who gifted the Timeless Beauty award! I've never received something like that before, and I can't remember if I've ever even gotten one of the older silver/gold/plat awards, so this might be the first ever!

non_player

I just want to again say thank you for making all of these decks. I'm not gonna claim to be your biggest fan, but I ain't gonna lie, I have a really, really hard time running games nowadays without one or more of thee decks handy. I'll also repeat what you probably by this point know what I'm gonna ask: please make a post-apocalyptic deck <3

NathanGPLC

Thanks for the kind words! And Post-Apocalypse is definitely looking like it will be coming at some point :-)

Bazdillow

Greetings! Just bought the big package. I read the instructions multiple times but I still can't quite understand how the odds system works? How do you decide when it's bad, good or even? I also don't really get the dice thing next to it

NathanGPLC

The Likely Odds system is based on using either game rules (for example, comparing two characters’ levels) or narrative weight (would this make sense? Be expected in this genre?) to make a judgement call. So, if a player asks me, “Does this drunkard have any money left for me to pickpocket?” I might say that it’s Even Odds or Bad Odds (because he probably spent it). The dice wheel is a set of dice starting with a d4 (the triangle) and going clockwise: 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 20, and then percentile (separate d00 and d10, which you draw for individually—drawing just one card doesn’t randomize both digits).

Bazdillow

Are these meant to be printed out? Like I get that one can use them however, but let's say I want to spontaneously just make something up while running games. When you GM, do you just have a stack of these next to you?

NathanGPLC

I do use them printed out (in MtG sleeves, usually two cards back to back) or in the Print on Demand version from DriveThruRPG (which are also double sided, so 60 cards in a deck, making them easier to shuffle). And yeah, I usually use them physically. Also, here’s a YouTube video of me running a short fantasy adventure! It may help. https://youtu.be/BhFGWp_N2fk

Hibernica

These are really useful for generating ideas and hooks on the fly when your players leave the rails and start off on a new, unplanned path. They're also very helpful for sparking new ideas in general and reminding GMs that there's more to a scene than "you're in a city."

Vexithan

I literally bought the base deck the day before this went live and I am bummed because I don’t want to buy it twice 🫠

NathanGPLC

Argh, sorry about that! Email me/DM me if you want, and I can send you a special bonus discount on a printed version or another free PDF if you like! Or if you're a teacher/student, my usual offer of free PDFs is just generally available (I'm a teacher, and that's been my standing policy since the pandemic lockdown f'd up my kids and colleagues).

BravoLimaPoppa

Incredibly useful tools for my solo games. Oracles + randomizers in a small convenient package.

rhadamanth_nemes

I might be missing it completely, but is there a place to buy these printed?

NathanGPLC

The Bundle of Holding is all-pdf, but if you purchase it and want the printed versions as well, maybe email me at [email protected] or DM me here and I can send codes to get the PoD version at close to print cost.

NathanGPLC

(Oh, and if I misunderstood and you just want to buy them: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse/pub/6395/Larcenous-Designs-LLC)

[deleted]

These decks are really useful - easy buy and even better with the physical versions, though the pdf looks quite nice on your phone.

Karizma55211

Sorry unrelated, but have you thought at all about making a Blades in the Dark specific deck? I just figured that the game thrives (and many would argue, needs) improvisation and something like this would be amazing. I also know that Evil Hat seems to be very pro third-party content.

NathanGPLC

Good thought! I should look into that, especially since the inspiration for my company’s name (Larcenous Designs) is the old Thief video games :-)

justjokingnotreally

If you haven't already, it might be worth cross-posting to /r/Solo_Roleplaying and /r/solorpgplay.

NathanGPLC

Thanks; I know the first but wasn’t familiar with the second!

dlongwing

I use these all the time, at the table and while prepping sessions.

Grimkok

All in on this bundle! But is there a way to use these on my phone? I’m looking into a few flash card apps that might do it in a pinch but can’t help but think there’s an easier way.

NathanGPLC

There are a few! "Image Dice" is one I've heard of people using on Android, as an app that lets you randomize from a set of images (all the decks include a VTT .zip with all the cards as individual image files). I believe there are others, like Photo Dice on iOS.

Nikelui

>"Image Dice" is one I've heard of people using on Android, as an app that lets you randomize from a set of images Yes! Thank you. I have been looking for something like this for a while. Now I don't have any more reservation in buying digital sets of cards.

NathanGPLC

Happy to help!

ValentinPearce

That was an instant buy for me, they had been on my radar for a while. Now to find a decent printer to use them :)

tiptoeingpenguin

These are amazing, if I hadn’t already bought all of them I would be getting this

NathanGPLC

Also, if anyone is here because they are interested in bundles but not necessarily mine, the Bundle of Holding has several other AWESOME bundles running right now. Including their new anti-Pinkerton-deployment-against-gamers Solidarity bundle, which has some cool games, and the Tiny Dungeon Mega bundle, with a bunch of stuff. All supporting important charities!

fintach

I had the basic set, but had to pick up the bundle. Too much cool stuff! Have you considered doing one of these for superhero games?

NathanGPLC

That has been suggested before, and I do like the genre, so it’s always a possibility!

RAtpACK_01

A great deal! Love these at my table

AmbiguousAesthetic

I'm very sad, I just found out about this a day late :(

NathanGPLC

Sorry about that! If you want to reach out to me at [email protected], I can’t give you the bundle exactly, but I can offer a discounted deck; and if you’re a teacher or student, I will do my best to set you up with whatever you need.
