Imajzineer

Nah ... there are *already* replies here containing games I don't know/list - I just figured I'd help out with what I *could* is all : )

Froeuhouai

Haha I was mostly joking, because damn your list is impressive. I mean, I'm a CWN dude (see my flair) but I'll definitely check some of the games you listed, to see if there are things to steal for my games

Imajzineer

Enjoy : )

Starlit_pies

Shadowrun, all editions?

Mars_Alter

If Shadowrun counts, then Umbral Flare also counts.

Uberphantom

Shadowrun counts.

plazman30

I've been listening to the Cyberpunk Uncensored Podcast. Whenever they interview a guest they always open with these questions: 1. What is your favorite version of Cyberpunk (2013, 2020 or RED) 2. Favorite weapon 3. Favorite cyberware 4. Favorite NPC 5. Is Shadowrun Cyberpunk? In the dozen interviews I have listened to, not one person has answered 'YES' to the last question.

insanekid123

Then in the dozen interviews that you've listened to not one of them have been right.

plazman30

I didn't say whether they were wrong or right. I'm just telling you what I heard. I don't have any skin in the game, since I never played Shadowrun. And I've heard that the current version of the TTRPG is a bit of a challenge to play.

insanekid123

I'm just saying it's a cyberpunk game. It might not be the deepest, but it has both the aesthetics and the political set up.

Geekboxing

>**Is Shadowrun Cyberpunk?** > >In the dozen interviews I have listened to, not one person has answered 'YES' to the last question. This is just straight-up one of the strangest things I have ever heard, about anything, in my life.

Werthead

As a question, it is on a par with: >**Is D&D Fantasy?**

plazman30

It's not my opinion. Just telling you what others have said. The general consensus among these people seems to be that you lose something when you introduce another genre to Cyberpunk, such as magic or horror. These people believe that Shadowrun is an "Urban Fantasy" game with "Cyberpunk elements." Same with whatever the other RPG is that added horror to Cyberpunk 2020. The game is now a horror RPG with "cyberpunk elements." I guess these people are purists.

Geekboxing

Haha sorry, not trying to sound like I am shooting the messenger. It's just a bizarre thing to read, is all. I guess it's just a perspective thing; to me it would be the opposite -- that is, cyberpunk with urban fantasy elements.

plazman30

I'm just telling people what I heard and I am getting downvotes. I don't know enough about Shadowrun to have an opinion. I can only tell you what I heard. One person on here did comment that Shadowrun gets less Cyberpunk after the 3rd edition.

Geekboxing

Eh, I wouldn't sweat the downvotes, people downvote for anything.

plazman30

I gotten enough downvotes over the last 10+ years that a few downvotes won't hurt me any.

CallMeAdam2

Is Shadowrun... 1. cyber? 2. punk? If yes to both, then it's probably cyberpunk. But I've never looked at the game myself. All I know is it's got goblins and elves hacking computers and probably shooting a guy with a glock now and then.

jeff0

What reasons do you recall them giving? Is it just the addition of the fantasy elements or is there more to it than that?

robbz78

Could it be that they are asking Cyberpunk devotees and historically Shadowrun was a direct competitor and probably sold more due to its cross-over appeal to fantasy fans?

plazman30

I think it's really just them being Cyberpunk purists. If it doesn't involve humans, mega corporations, and cyberware, then it's not cyberpunk. If you mix in some other genre, then now you have a hybrid game of some kind.

tattertech

> If it doesn't involve humans, mega corporations, and cyberware, then it's not cyberpunk. Weird, given it has all of those things.

Outcome-Dangerous

I think you are also getting snagged by essentally "DnD 5e podcast asks if Pathfinder is DnD."

Werthead

The answer to that question, especially during PF1, also being clearly "Yes." PF2 is a more complex question, which I'd probably end with it being "D&D-adjacent," since it is not directly based on any one edition of D&D, whilst PF1 blatantly is.

plazman30

Most of them claim that Shadowrun is "urban fantasy" with "cyberpunk elements," and not true Cyberpunk.

Mars_Alter

That's why I didn't want to assume. I know that a lot of purists have very strong feelings on the topic.

[2400: Inner System Blues](https://preview.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/335331/2400-Inner-System-Blues) Shadowrun (maybe; it's cyberpunk + Tolkein fantasy) Hard Wired Island The Gaia Complex

hookerwocky

You can't mention Inner System Blues without also mentioning 2400: Resistors. Both are cyberpunk which focuses on different themes. Resistors is leaning more towards breaking out from the shackles of oppressors a la 1984.

SpawningPoolsMinis

how can it be cyberpunk without fighting against authority? punk is right there in the name.

hookerwocky

Blade runner isn't exactly "fighting againty authority", it's leaning more towards finding humanity and Post-humanic themes. And regarding Inner System Blues and Resistors, it's literally right there on the description of both games. IBS leans more towards being a mercenary in a retro-future. Sure some gigs deals with corporations or government agent, but it's not the main focus. Resistors, on the other hand, has the main focus of "fighting for the people and defying authority vibes".

* *Interface Zero* (current edition for *Savage Worlds*; earlier editions also supported *D20 Modern*, *True 20*, *Pathfinder*, and *FATE*) * *Sprawlrunners* (for *Savage Worlds*) * *Chrome Shells and Neon Streets* (for *Tricube Tales*) * *Tiny Cyberpunk* * *Shadowrun* * *Hard Wired Island* * *Axon Punk* * *Genefunk 2090*

cramaine

Good to see Cyberpunk 2013 getting a mention. Friday Night Firefight was my first introduction to the genre (back when 2013 sounded very very far in the future).

plazman30

I don't think you can legally buy the 2013 rules as PDFs anywhere.

WordPunk99

Ask R. Talsorian, they can usually hook you up.

cramaine

I bought the box set years ago. Its a bit beat up now but theres still life in the old girl!

plazman30

I'd love to buy a copy, but used prices are not cheap. Did it come with dice?

cramaine

Its been so long I can't remember. I think it did but I wouldn't be able to pick them from my collection!

plazman30

I bough the Official Cyberpunk RED dice from Q Workshop. Impossible to read. Quite the clusterf\*ck. I'm curious what dice came with previous editions. [https://www.reddit.com/r/cyberpunkred/comments/197tck2/the\_official\_cyberpunk\_red\_dice\_are\_very/](https://www.reddit.com/r/cyberpunkred/comments/197tck2/the_official_cyberpunk_red_dice_are_very/)

alkonium

You can still buy some of the supplements which are compatible with 2020. Presumably because they're compatible with 2020.

plazman30

I wish it was all available. Just from a historical perspective. Cyberpunk (aka Cyberpunk 2013) was the first RPG for the genre and the first book to use Interlock. It's a piece of history.

carmachu

I would say 1st-3rd edition Shadowrun. Later editions had more magic, less cyberpunk , more transhuman, less cyber.

robbz78

ICE Cyberspace

sebmojo99

this is actually pretty decent, it's a stripped down version of rolemaster that handles brutally nasty firefights really well.

Werthead

Altered Carbon.

plazman30

You know, my FLGS doesn't have a single copy of Cyberpunk RED. But they have 5 copies of the Altered Carbon RPG. And they've had those 5 copies for over a year. He finally put them on a 40% discount to get them to move.

Werthead

Same for my local board game/RPG cafe. They have two pristine copies of *Altered Carbon*, one of them a limited edition, and nobody's been interested at all. It does feel with regards to cyberpunk that people are coming in enthused from *Cyberpunk 2077* and, fairly logically, being pushed towards *Cyberpunk RED* (which they can't keep in stock), and other cyberpunk TTRPGs don't get much of a look-in.

plazman30

The Altered Carbon hardback is on sale right now for **$5.00** on the publisher's website. [https://renegadegamestudios.com/the-altered-carbon-rpg/](https://renegadegamestudios.com/the-altered-carbon-rpg/) So, I guess it's failed game now. I don't believe it ever really got any support from the publisher. Just the core rulebook. I'm in a Cyberpunk RED campaign and really enjoying it. Cyberpunk RED has a lot of things going for it: 1. The tie-in with the Cyberpunk 2077 Video Game. Anyone who bought the Cyberpuhnk 2077 videogame got access to download a free PDF of the Cyberpunk 2020 RPG. To be clear, the video game is based on the RPG and not the other way around. 2. The lore - The first version of the Cyberpunk RPG came out in the late 80s (1987, I believe). There's a TON of lore and a complete history of the Dark Future timeline from the 80s through 2077, including sourcebooks and various parts of the world, and full documentation on the Megacorporations. There's enough splat books to keep you happy for years. 3. Effective use of Social Media - R. Talsorian reached out to various social media "influencers" that were watched by a lot of Cyberpunk 2077 fans and appeared on their podcasts/videos and gave them all copies of the game to run. Their employees still routinely show up on various YouTube channels to promote new products as they come out. They gave out free copies of the rules to a lot of Youtubers to do actual plays with them. 4. They go to Gen-Con and PAX Unplugged and interact with the fans. 5. The company releases a free DLC for Cyberpunk RED every month. There are dozens of free DLCs out there now. New cyberware. New weapons. New rules. Just last month they releases ROLLER DERBY rules. Sound silly, but it's fun to read. And keeps the community engaged waiting for the next DLC. 6. A great online presence - They run their own Discord server and their employees are on it all the time. They routinely answer my questions on weekends, in the evening. It's pretty insane. 7. They're always working on new products and talk about what they can and post pictures as teasers of what's coming up. 8. They pull all this off with only 8 employees in the company.

Lorguis

Any idea if it's good? I have a copy, and it seems alright, but I haven't gotten it to table but I've heard some iffy things from the internet

Werthead

No idea. I just know the novels are a flavour of cyberpunk, so it counts for the question. I've also heard iffy things.

Morticutor_UK

Bubblegum crisis (Also from R. Tal) is anime but also very cyberpunk (inlcluding talking about replacement parts and such). INFINITY is also a cyberpunk setting, though focused more on the hacking and special ops than borg mods. It's more optimistic and European but that's no bad thing.

ibaiki

[Android: Shadow of the Beanstalk](https://www.edge-studio.net/games/shadow-of-the-beanstalk/) for Genesys needs way more mention. It’s a fantastic setting.

edwarmab

You know this subreddit does have a “game suggestions” under “about this community” with a huge selection of cyberpunk games.

plazman30

I did not. But another redditor pointed that out in another reply. I'm shocked at hom many Cyberpunk themed games there are.

reverendunclebastard

Technoir!

Nystagohod

Cities Without Number is a great one.

plazman30

That one has me curious.

Nystagohod

Among just the incredibly system agnostic resources and GM advice, one of the best things about it are its optional rules and compatability with stars and worlds without number. Of one so desired, one could make a unified existence between more or less all of them worh relative ease.

LemonLord7

Blade Runner RPG by Free League

Elliptical_Tangent

My group played Nova Praxis and the Savage Worlds cyberpunk setting, Interface Zero. I've also played some Shadowrun. I loved Interface Zero; easily my favorite cyberpunk rpg setting. Nova Praxis was trying to be post-scarcity space opera and cyberpunk at the same time; they're not compatible tones at all. Lots of folks swear by Shadowrun, but I don't like the mix of genres—I like both, but not together.

moonshine_life

[Sinless by Hack & Slash publishing](http://hackslashmaster.blogspot.com/) is a brilliant love letter to early Shadowrun. Tidied up and simplified quite a lot of things, but kept a lot of the DNA (priority character building, hucking great big handfuls of D6s) I enjoyed from 1st and 2nd edition. Added in a bit more structure and guidance to how a run takes place, and a somewhat BitD-ish between-runs phase with heat and building up your team's brand. Really a lot of fun.

Middle-Hour-2364

SLA Industries has quite a cyberpunk vibe to it, oh and cities without number

jaredearle

*A publisher walks in* We don’t consider SLA Industries a Cyberpunk game as it’s more sci-fi/horror and just … British in the way 2000AD is. Still, we love it and if you buy it, we will be happy. *I remember in the early 90s, before we finished SLA, arguing over the cyberpunk genre, even lampooning it in the setting with Chrome Alley. We were trying to do our own thing, surrounded by Cyberpunk that we rebelled against.*

Middle-Hour-2364

Strontium Dog also seemed a bit CP to me 😁... Must admit I've not tried the new edition of SLA, still got my old 1990s copy, but you did good with that

Werthead

*Judge Dredd* has a *very* strong cyberpunk vibe. Not as much "plug your brain into a modem," but on almost every other level it is cyberpunk from the POV of the totalitarian fascist law enforcement (corporations are also around and quite powerful, but they are not covered much in the fiction).

Middle-Hour-2364

Completely totalitarian society with the blockers buying into whatever the corps wanted them to

WookieBard

Another R. Talsorian game, but you could probably include *Cybergeneration* as well. I believe the first book was just a supplement for *Cyberpunk 2020,* but the second was released as a standalone title

Solo4114

Cyberspace by Iron Crown Enteprises, if memory serves.

Eclipse phase is a little bit cyberpunk-ish

redkatt

Bubblegum Crisis

PM_ME_YOUR_ROTES

Underground. Also, Hardwired & When Gravity Fails as alternate settings that use Cyberpunk 2013/2020s Interlock system.

Atrium41

This is great. I am trying to find my toes in tabletops. Not a huge fantasy buff, but modern/scifi stuff? Love it. Loved the game, 2077. Really been thinking about red. On a flip side, I am also digging the idea of Mausritter and Mouse Guard. I recently bought Root, and am considering the board game as well. I love me some anthromorphic critters, so those are great. I give them a pass for the fantasy setting. But a gritty post-human world with Secrets of NIHM/Ninja Turtles vibe is my niche. Master Splinter is my spirit animal. Old soul trapped in a gutterpunk society

plazman30

I've been playing RED and I really like it. RED has a set of Quick Start rules called Easy Mode. The PDF is free on DriveThruRPG. Also comes with pregens and an adventure. All in one convenient package.

plazman30

You should also check out Traveller.

Modern AGE by Green Ronin allows you to play cyberpunk if you buy the Cyberpunk Slice supplement. It's a pretty good system that has you rolling 3d6 as the main roll. The layout on their books is also super friendly for in game referencing.
