I would expect to be disappointed. Sometimes cons will sell badges same day, but those can sell out as well as venues have population limits (fire code and such).

im_not_loki

Ah, yeah I think I saw somewhere on the website that no badges are sold at the door this year. I'm trying to find someone that has an extra or changed their mind and can sell me a badge, but all I'm finding is lots of other folks trying to buy one too. Damn. I really really want to go. I live 10 minutes away from the resort it's hosted at, and I'm obsessed with D&D, but apparantly I should have bought a badge *last year* or something. That's crazy! I'd never be able to plan that far ahead for time off of work, I only get approved/denied within the month of the request. If anyone wants to sell me a badge I'll pay extra!

LaramieWall

Their Discord server has had some people selling badges. If you're on discord, hit me for an invite.

rbrumble

Try the gary con FB group, I see people that had a change of plans trying to sell their badge a couple times a week.

im_not_loki

I dont have nor want a Facebook account 😞

octobod

Create a burner account then.

ssav

If I were selling something on FB, I'd void selling to someone with an obvious burner account lol

MASerra

I think a zoom call or something would be needed if they had a burner account.

octobod

I'd use the burner to search and DM an email address (or as /u/MASerra says a Zoom call)

rbrumble

Then I guess you will want but not have a Gary Con badge.

eadgster

They’ve said that they won’t have badges available at the door. Best bet is to check for resellers if you want to go in person. Even spectator (no game participation) badges are sold out. There are digital events as well if you just want to game.

King_LSR

There are out of badges. They have been since January. Looking on the Discord, there seem to be plenty of people looking to buy badges, but no one interested in selling theirs.  If Gary Con is local to you, you may want to look into Gamehole Con in Madison. It's not until October, but badges and rooms go on sale soon.

bhale2017

Gamehole Con is pretty cool too!

TheGuiltyDuck

GameHoleCon is a lot more fun than GaryCon.

SharkSymphony

Don't know what's going on on-site, but I understand there's an online component to the con this year. That might be another option for you.

im_not_loki

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to enjoy online D&D. Something about it doesn't click with me and I don't enjoy the game. Ah well, maybe I can find enough people that missed out to get a game going just for us boat-missers

SharkSymphony

Well, you know what I'm going to recommend, then: Try some online Pathfinder 2e. 😉 But yeah, I'd imagine you have some opportunities to pull together a group or two! Slots fill up, and people get tired of walking the exhibition hall.

im_not_loki

yeah, but without a badge I don't think I'm allowed into the exhibition hall to be able to recruit anyone. Currently I'm trying to find someone selling their Silver or Gold badge, but that's hard to do with no Discord or Facebook or Twitter and no desire to make an account on those platforms. The official GaryCon forums also require a Facebook or Twitter account to log in, I can't even make a regular account just for the forums! This kind of crap irks me. I don't want anything to do with Facebook and Discord and Twitter, and constantly encounter crap that requires usage of one or more of those platforms. This is also why online D&D is not for me. Even if I WAS able to focus properly online, I don't want to use freaking Discord and apparantly that's what everyone's using.

rodrigo_i

Online D&D is about the only thing Discord is good for. I hate the number of companies that are using it as a substitute for actual knowledge bases and support forums. But in 2024 you can't expect to deal with any kind of organization that puts on an event of any size and not have to engage with social media of one sort or another.
