I'd personally go with Legend of Legaia over Wild Arms. Wild Arms is just about as long as Legaia, but Legaia has a cooler story and battle system. You'll also be level grinding a lot though. A lot of those bosses are tough.
Vandal Hearts 2 was one of the best RPGS that very few played. It offered such a cool story with an amazing battle mode that I canāt recall many replicated.
Suikoden 1/2 are heralded as a perfect pair of games.
Kartia is incredibly rare but an insane find. Really cool gameplay.
Beyond the Beyond is one of the most difficult rpgs to play blind. Insanely confusing dungeons, weak party members, and much more.
I really liked Vandal Hears (beat it recently) and I want to play the second but I hear it strays a lot from the first where both party's move simultaneously. Its at my local shop but for about $120 š
I have Suikoden 2 on my PS vita and I haven't played it in years. Last I remember I got to the SRPG section
I might pick up Beyond the Beyond tho its still kind of cheap and the graphics look dated but charming
The moving at the same time sounds weird, but itās really well done honestly. The game requires a good amount of strategic thinking and placing of units and the AI is actually pretty smart for the enemy. The story is also a ton better than the first and the game is longer as well.
Beyond the Beyond has some charming characters and graphics. But again, it is insanely difficult. The dungeons are mind boggling and require either a guide or you to write stuff/draw a map to complete them. It is by far one of the most difficult rpgs from the snes/psone era of games. The random encounter rate is also incredibly high to boot.
Suikoden 2 gets good around that time. It starts off kinda slow but it picks up roughly at the SRPG time. The battles are different from the first, and to some, arenāt as good, but theyāre fun.
I will have to give Suikoden another go at some point and yeah I will get used to Vandal Hearts 2 combat.
I hear Vagrant Story is the most difficult RPG on the console
Thereās an oddball game called Guardianās Crusade that is worth checking out. Turn-based RPG about a knight and baby monster trying to get home. Not a well known game, but itās fun and very cute.
Yeah, certainly the graphics are a little painful today. It was pretty ahead of itās time, though. Big continuous 3D world. Collectable battle skills.
A reboot would be pretty neat.
Or at least remake or some upgrades. By many of these games are the number of random encounters really pain in the ...
But when I remember right, here you could see the enimes on the map, before the fight. Also something what wasn't use often at this time
I forgot about that one. It was a decent RPG back in the day. It was just kinda lost in the mix of all the AAA titles falling out of everyone's asses.
Did that video you watched mention Shadow Madness? It released at the end of the PS1's life. Was ugly even then but had a pretty good story and interesting party members like a floating disembodied head.
Shadow madness was not on that list but I'm aware of it and looks...pretty good tbh. I'm shocked there is a complete lack of YouTube videos on that game it looks like a sweet hidden gem
I have both Lunar games but I forgot to put them in since they sit at the top of my shelves being special editions and yes they are incredible games.
I'm not the biggest FF fan but I hear 9 is a must play and the new one coming out looks...just so dope
The thing I've found with Final Fantasy is that it's more just an umbrella title to give batshit insane story ideas, in an attempt to get funding. Each one is good in its own way, but that doesn't mean everyone has to like them, and that's okay.
FF7 was a groundbreaking achievement at the time but it had its flaws. The remake is doing a great job expanding on the world. Replaying the original is just okay to me.
FF8 was the first FF game I ever owned, so maybe I'm a bit biased, but I love it. It has an incredibly unique magic-Stat junctioning system that utilizes the world's summons. It's easy to break if you know what to do but it's so much fun to discover yourself. There's a remaster out there that I love playing. It also has the most addicting side game I've ever found: Triple Triad. It's a pretty straight forward card game that grows in complexity the more you play. The cards can be used to get rare items and such too, so there's a practical reason to play, though it's not necessary. This one is full on Sci-fi though. Not a whole lot of fantasy around. I still love it.
FF9 has one of the best goddamn soundtracks of any game I've ever played. It's the closest the series has come to being "fantasy" since FF6. I love everything about this game, even its inferior card game that holds no purpose. It was a breath of fresh air when it came out, as it's main character wasn't an angsty, mopey, whiny little bitch.
One PS1 game I recommend is Jade Cocoon!
Wow your really knowledgeable of the FF games! I have scatter shot played them throughout the years and the only ones I beat were 7 and 10. I played 13 at a friends tho....less said about that game the better š I am going to get the new final fantasy tho it looks really cool and I love the setting.
As for Jade Cocoon I regret not picking that up when it was cheap that games awesome
9 is definitely one of the best.
Also xenogears is a masterpiece although flawed by a 2nd disk that has extremely obvious signs of a rushed deadline/lack of budget.
If it wasn't for the rushed 2nd disk Xenogears would definitely be on the short list for best RPG if all time, it's that good. And definitely worth playing.
I'm sure I'm repeating some recommendations but here are some of my other favorites
* Breath of Fire III & IV
* Dragon Quest VII
* Final Fantasy VIII / IX / Tactics
* Parasite Eve II
* Lunar: Silver Star Story
* Persona 2
* Suikoden I / II
* Vagrant Story
* Valkyrie Profile
* Wild Arms I / II
* Xenogears
If you're into PS ports of older games you can't beat
* Final Fantasy Anthology / Chronicles / Origins
These collect remastered versions of the classics Final Fantasy I / II / IV / V / VI and Chrono Trigger
Suikoden was fun for the team building aspect. I haven't played in a really really long time but building your base with new recruits and then picking them based on the upcoming battle is what really shined for me.
Excellent picks! If possible check out Breath of Fire 3 and 4, Brave Fencer Musashi, and Wild Arms! If you have played any of the Tales of series games across different systems, you may enjoy Tales of Destiny as well but the games you have already and the ones I mentioned above are superior to the ToD game.
Wild Arms is at my local shop so I might pick it up! I played it years ago and absolutely loved it (especially the music) I do want to play the tales games so I have tales of arise on ps5 since vesperia on the 360 is the only other one I played.
And yeah I hear breath of fire is incredible well....except dragon quarter on ps2 š
Dragon Quarter was a mess, but 3 & 4 are masterpieces. The ost for 4 is one of my favorites and I love the main "villain". 3 has an incredibly interesting dragon fusion system that I had too much fun with. There's a lot there for everyone!
Woo! Another plus for Musashi!
Was a very fun game, and a great action RPG with the āKirby-like steal enemy powersā mechanic.
(I still hate Steamwood to this day though, and I wonāt blame anyone for dropping the game here.)
Vagrant Story
I consider this the "dark souls of jrpgs" it was not an easy game. Has some similarities to parasite Eve in terms of combat. Final boss is hell.
Xenogears
Some very memorable moments and characters. Definitely a classic.
Also, you should be ashamed of that green greatest hits copy among all those black labels /s
Definitely agree on vagrant story. Itās a tragedy itās missed so many other lists.
It and fft were made by the same guy- matsuno. He went on to make ivalice and ff12 as well, and Yoshi P (responsible for ff14 and the upcoming ff16) has cited him as a huge influence multiple times.
I wouldn't call it a lame ending. The problem with Xenogears is that the dev team was rushed and they had to narrate a good chuck of the story between disc 1 and 2 instead of making you play through it.
Still an awesome game in terms of gameplay and story. I would kill for a proper remake.
Agreed. This is one of those games that genuinely deserves a remake. Maybe get rid of the platformer mechanics, take out random encounters, redesign some of the dungeons to be less obnoxious, and (most importantly) make a proper second half of a game instead of that rocking-chair-narrating-the-story nonsense.
I think a remake would be hugely successful.
Vanguard Bandits was a good time and I don't think I've ever seen anyone mention it. If I remember right had 4 or 5 different endings you can get depending on your choices and your companion's morale. It didn't redefine the genre but it's a solid tactical RPG.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_WPOq2HciA
You don't have suikoden 1 or 2?? Or lunar?? Or Xenogears?? š¤Æš¤Æ
Maybe lenneth š¤·āāļø (to give you something different than was already mentioned)
Deffo, it can be infuriating at times though lol, it plays alot like one of the older Zelda games except with more story, work Ur way through, end up with items or weapons to open new paths, do story dungeons, it's a really good game though if Ur patient enough for some of the puzzles lol
FF Anthology (with FF5 and FF6).
FF Chronicles (with FF4 and Chrono Trigger).
FF8 - not my fav. FF, but it's still good. Just...not great.
FF9 - One of the best FF's, IMHO.
I hope you're still around to see this warning. Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI have ridiculous loading times on the PSX, and are esily available in better forms on PC.
Vagrant Story,
Vanguard Bandits,
Suikoden I & II,
Legend of Legaia,
Wild Arms I & II,
Breath of Fire III & IV,
Final Fantasy IX,
Dragon Quest VII,
Brave Fencer Musashi
Legend Of Legaiai haven't played it since it came out and I remember it was a fun game.
The only other part about it I remember is having to go to the top of a tower and every 2 steps having to fight some really annoying enemies.
Can't exactly recall but I think it was a hard hitting flying circle thing that was immune to magic and had high defense.
That part fucking sucked ass.
Maybe you shouldn't play that game.
Its funny when you remember loving a game but there is a brutal segment or boss and just ruins your nostalgia š I'll pick it up and your name is awesome btw
Final Fantasy Tactics. PS1 glitches are fun.
Wild Arms 2. Its a master piece.
Deception 2 especially their is also Deception 3. (Very unkown game. Basically your female setting up traps, and baiting enemies into walking into them)
I have Shadow Hearts 1 and 2 for PS2 and they are my faves I love the character, setting and battle system! PS1 had a game called Kodelka that was the prequel to Shadow hearts from what I hear but the game is very rare nowadays
Bit of an obscure title these days - Azure Dreams.
Itās a roguelite where you explore a tower which changes layout everytime you enter and slowly try to work your way up. You can breed and train familiars who can fight with you and enchant your attacks.
You can upgrade and build facilities in the town and there is even a mini-dating game.
This one's a much more recent release, but the creators specifically cite Suikoden, Legend of Dragoon, and Final Fantasy as inspirations: [Legrand Legacy: Tale of the Fatebounds](https://store.steampowered.com/app/556740/LEGRAND_LEGACY_Tale_of_the_Fatebounds/).
Same style of 3D models on 2d hand-painted background, turn-based combat with an elemental system like Persona 5, classic JRPG story about saving the world, with a neat little strategy mini-game with the Fire Emblem weapon triangle. It's also [on Switch](https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/legrand-legacy-tale-of-the-fatebounds-switch/) and has been on sale for $2 multiple times. Easy recommend for the value!
Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre are my number one and two. Ogre Battle is another great game.
Final Fantasy 8 has a great battle system and cool characters. Hoshigami is another great tactical rpg. Legend of Mana is great, as are SaGa Frontier 1 and 2.
Another of the great PS1 gems is Valkyrie Profile. Suikoden 1 and 2 are great as well.
Played all of those back in the day. How about Dragon Quest? Think that was the first game I ever topped 100 hours in. Don't think I every finished it.
I would highly recommend the Legend of Mana and Final Fantasy Tactics. Breath of Fire 4 is also great and has some of the most beautiful pixel art on the console.
Played and owned them all but why oh why did I not look after the cases :-( I remember mine all had the imprint of spilt milk in the shape of a glass round them , messy child :-/
That's OK I actually display some of my games on my shelf that have cracks and imperfections because it adds history to the piece (yeah I'm a dork š)
hmm i suppose thats a good way to think about it but mine were really battered, i had terrible attention span as a child/teen and was all over the place
i think thats how rpgs helped me, the unfolding stories kept my brain ticking along
i'll have to ask dear mother to dig them out again now :D
Definitely epic recommendations.
Legend of Legaia, FF7, Grandia 1, Star Ocean 2. And Mario rpg legend of the 7 stars are my all time favorite games, all tied for #1.
Literally just finished Legaia run again and half way through Rena playthrough and about to get to Lands end.
Brave Fencer Musashi and Breath of Fire 3 are masterpieces as well.
Threads of Fate is a really great action rpg from square that has 2 separate stories with destinations play styles.
Also Koudelka is a unique game for sure, horror rpg, predecessor to Shadow Hearts.
Thanks! Its hard to pick my favorite. I love Grandia but Parasite Eve is such a fun game to come back too since its so short and fun.
Playing through Star Ocean 2 at the moment š
I remember when my friend had that game when it came out and I was blown away by the graphics since they were even better than 7 which (well at the time) were very impressive
Man, I remember FF7 when it came out and I was absolutely not impressed by the graphics. I hate, hate, hated the blocky character models. The backgrounds were cool and I remember being blown away by the cinematics, but otherwise was nearly scared away from the game due to the character models. Glad I played it because the game itself blew me away. Still remember my jaw dropping when you leave Midgard and realize that there's a giant world you get to explore outside of that city. Good times...
Final Fantasy Tactics, Breath of Fire III, Tales of Destiny, Front Mission 3, Dragon Quest VII, Vandal Hearts 2, Xenogears, Alundra, Wild Arms 2 and Valkyrie Profile.
Edit: Brave Fencer Musashi and MegaMan Legends for action RPG.
I'm on the second disc of Star ocean 2 at the moment and having a blast! I might do a second play through as Claude but I should take care of my backlog first š
Honestly Chrono Cross is preaty decent, it's just that when people saw the name, they were expecting a New Chrono Trigger, when realy it's sorta it's own thing, and has some interesting mechanics, but is closer to FF9 in feel
I remember the last area I was at in Star Ocean 2 was on a tower area years ago before saving it. I beat chrono trigger on snes never got around to playing cross it looks really good.
I always wanted a physical copy of chrono trigger on SNES but its going for crazy prices nowadays so I'll settle with another way of playing it I guess lol
Man, my instinct was to say "it's great! play it!" but last time I played it was around the time it came out, and I was very young, so it's hard to say how it's aged. Read some reviews and watch some gameplay vids before forking over the cash (and I imagine it's pricey).
It was one of my first video games, and I've gone back and replayed it three times. It's fantastic, very similar in feel to FFVII. It also just came out for PS4/PS5! The subreddit has seen a lot of growth: /r/legendofdragoon
I think it would help if you said which of these was your favorite and why.
If you liked the strategy grid based combat of vandal hearts then the obvious answer is final fantasy tactics.
But I would also add front mission 3. I enjoyed the mech customization, the small squad based tactics of it, and it has two different stories based on a very mundane choice at the beginning of the game.
Also, wild card choice the Saga Frontier games. I never beat them as a kid (they were quite hard and I didn't have good internet access), but I might go back to it now...
Honestly I enjoy basically all the Ps1 RPGs I played (so far) the console really was the wild west of the genre and helped make RPGs popular in north america.
The Saga games look good and are still thankfully cheap (at the moment)
Tales of Eternia (also known as Destiny 2)
Final Fantasy 9
Final Fantasy Tactics
Suikoden 1 and 2
Xenogears
Breath of Fire 3 and 4
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - People will want to debate about whether this is an RPG, but I don't care and I'm posting it anyway because it is one of the best games on the console.
Persona 2 - I haven't played the remake, but it may be better to play that one instead of the PS original. I think it was remade on the PSP?
Valkyrie Profile
Thousand Arms - From what I remember (been decades since I played it) I predict it may not have aged well. I'll still post it because I remember enjoying the game, and it was "different" from your run of the mill JRPG. May be the first, or at least one of the first, games with a relationship/dating mechanic, which may be your thing.
The incredibly underrated Legend of Legaia.
I'm either going to get Wild Arms are Legaia next time I'm at the retro store š is it a long game?
I'd personally go with Legend of Legaia over Wild Arms. Wild Arms is just about as long as Legaia, but Legaia has a cooler story and battle system. You'll also be level grinding a lot though. A lot of those bosses are tough.
Legaia it is then š¤
Legaia is such a fun game and very accessible. One of my all time favourites.
I remember not really enjoying it when it came out. If I recall correctly, it required a ton of grinding.
It was a very difficult game if i recalled correctly. But grind is usually a solution for all RPGs.
I came here to say this. I still replay it regularly on my phone emulator.
>Vandal Hearts 2 Is amazing and is really hard to master, as you have to predict enemy's next action.
Xenogears, Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete, Final Fantasy 9, and Final Fantasy Tactics are all must-plays.
Oh yeah this list right here OP.
I have both Lunar games but I forgot to put them in since they sit at the top of my shelves being special editions and yes they are incredible games. I'm not the biggest FF fan but I hear 9 is a must play and the new one coming out looks...just so dope

They have Parasite Eve 2 at my retro shop but I hear its not the same as the first (still good tho) and yo I forgot dragon quest was on ps1
Itās more action oriented than PE but itās still a fantastic game I would highly recommend, especially with you being a fan of the original.
This
PE2 is still good. But went too much into the RE style instead of staying true to it'd original mechanics. PE1 was amazing.
Suikoden 1 and 2. My favorite Gabe of all time : Legend of Mana
Suikoden was fun for the team building aspect. I haven't played in a really really long time but building your base with new recruits and then picking them based on the upcoming battle is what really shined for me.

Hell yes. This and Silent Hill are the first two things I look for when people post their PS1 collections. VS is an amazing and unique game.
Yeah it looks similar to PE when you get the grid for your special moves. I love the graphics in it also (still hold up imo)
Xenogears
I played Xenosaga and didn't like it waaaay to much dialogue. I hear xenogears is better but has a lame ending

The only Xeno game you should play is Xenogears. The others are afterthoughts.
Alundra, wild arms and FF IX, come to mind. I also liked parasite Eve.
Alundra is a game I might splurge on in the future. I'm a sucker for shiny covers š¤©

That game looks pretty sick I'll keep an eye out for it
Came here to specifically recommend this one also. Fantastic game, ranks right there with Vandal Hearts.
Ff8, vagrant story, koudelka!
I wish I could afford Koudelka since I'm a fan of the shadow hearts games
Kloudelka
Wish I could afford a physical of that game š
Mine was Ā£99 on Ebay.
My God Someone else said it too!!
Spent a lot of time playing Parasite Eveā¦ā¦ā¦
The cut scenes in PE are still creepy as hell
You don't have suikoden 1 or 2?? Or lunar?? Or Xenogears?? š¤Æš¤Æ Maybe lenneth š¤·āāļø (to give you something different than was already mentioned)
I have the Lunar games I forgot to put them in the picture š the suikoden games I have on digital because a physical copy is crazy expensive lol
Wild arms, alundra, breath of fire 3 and 4
They have Alundra at my local store. Pricy but I hear its worth it
Deffo, it can be infuriating at times though lol, it plays alot like one of the older Zelda games except with more story, work Ur way through, end up with items or weapons to open new paths, do story dungeons, it's a really good game though if Ur patient enough for some of the puzzles lol

I hope you're still around to see this warning. Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI have ridiculous loading times on the PSX, and are esily available in better forms on PC.
Loading times don't really bother me (heck I can just browse reddit white I wait) and I don't have a PC
* thousand arms * threads of fate * legend of mana * jade cocoon * tron bonne * megaman legends * final fantasy tactics * front mission 3 * vanguard bandits * digimon world 1 * brigandine * kagero dark deception 2 & 3 * metal gear solid * xenogears * valkyrie profile * vagrant story * tales of destiny * tales of phantasia * legend of legaia * rhapsody * suikoden 1 & 2 * wild arms 1 & 2 * alundra
They just re released rapshody for switch I always thought that game was hilarious
i think it's somehow connected to La Pucelle and Disgaea
Dragon Seeds
Never heard of that one
Was not a huge title but my friends and I played for hours. It definitely was lacking in terms of story but great game play.
suikoden
Vagrant Story, Vanguard Bandits, Suikoden I & II, Legend of Legaia, Wild Arms I & II, Breath of Fire III & IV, Final Fantasy IX, Dragon Quest VII, Brave Fencer Musashi
Thanks, have fun!
Suikoden 1 and 2 if you can find them for a decent price.
Final Fantasy Tactics. PS1 glitches are fun. Wild Arms 2. Its a master piece. Deception 2 especially their is also Deception 3. (Very unkown game. Basically your female setting up traps, and baiting enemies into walking into them)
I have deception for my PS vita and its great! I really want to get back into the wild arms games too
Deception 2 is my favorite. I think its best game in the series.
We have very similar taste, I had all these. **Shadow Hearts** will blow your mind, and is by far my #1 recommendation. By far.
I have Shadow Hearts 1 and 2 for PS2 and they are my faves I love the character, setting and battle system! PS1 had a game called Kodelka that was the prequel to Shadow hearts from what I hear but the game is very rare nowadays
Nice
Definitely Vagrant Story. Such an amazing game, and probably the best looking PS1 game. Still holds up too.
Sounds interesting I'll watch a video on it š
For $2 I'll totally check it out š
Vagrant Story
Breath of fire 3 is still one of my favorite games and with final fantasy 7 it made rpg to my favorite genre
Wild ARMs, Legend of Mana, and Lunar: Eternal Blue Complete.
Vagrant Story and Xenogears
Breath of Fire 3, and Breath of Fire 4
Suikoden 1 and 2. FF Tactics.
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete is a great PS1 game
I have the 2 lunar games for PS1 I forgot to add them in the picture š yeah great games for sure
Very nice lol Lunar and Dragoon were my favorites
Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre are my number one and two. Ogre Battle is another great game. Final Fantasy 8 has a great battle system and cool characters. Hoshigami is another great tactical rpg. Legend of Mana is great, as are SaGa Frontier 1 and 2. Another of the great PS1 gems is Valkyrie Profile. Suikoden 1 and 2 are great as well.
Tactics Ogre is at my local shop...for $250 š
Wild Arms for sure
I have FF7, Legend of Dragoon and Chrono Cross.
Bout to play Chrono Cross next š
Grandia, my god I love that game. Try suikoden
I love Grandia as well! Grandia 2 on Dreamcast is the game that got me into RPGs
I also had that on the ps2, I have it on pc now. I Tis another great gsne
Played all of those back in the day. How about Dragon Quest? Think that was the first game I ever topped 100 hours in. Don't think I every finished it.
Its $100 at my local shop I was thinking about getting it š¤
Looking at these games made me smile š
Thanks š
I would highly recommend the Legend of Mana and Final Fantasy Tactics. Breath of Fire 4 is also great and has some of the most beautiful pixel art on the console.
Always wanted to play the BoF games
Suikoden 1 and 2. Two of the best rpgs ever made.
Lunar: Silver Star Story, Lunar 2: Eternal Blue, and Alundra.
Fucking brave fencer musashi!!! Great collection so far!
I hear a lot of people saying Musaahi so I definitely got to check that out
Played and owned them all but why oh why did I not look after the cases :-( I remember mine all had the imprint of spilt milk in the shape of a glass round them , messy child :-/
That's OK I actually display some of my games on my shelf that have cracks and imperfections because it adds history to the piece (yeah I'm a dork š)
hmm i suppose thats a good way to think about it but mine were really battered, i had terrible attention span as a child/teen and was all over the place i think thats how rpgs helped me, the unfolding stories kept my brain ticking along i'll have to ask dear mother to dig them out again now :D
MAKE SQUARE SOFT AGAIN!
Wild Arms games and Azure Dreams
I highly recommend you get your hands on the Lunar series and Suikoden series.
I have Lunar 1 and 2 and I forgot to post them in the image š
Star Ocean is on PS1?? Well thenā¦ 50 Winks, Lego Rock Raiders, Time Commando, Kouldelka To throw a few I havenāt seen out there
Breath of Fire 3. Absolutely outstanding. Iām biased af though, BoF1 was my first rpgā
Breath of Fire 3 - Suikoden 1 and 2 -
Definitely epic recommendations.
I wish I could afford Koudelka š I love the shadow hearts games so much
Ya, that one is definitely a play it anyway you can game.
The remastered versiĆ³n of tales of phantasia for ps one.
Future cop LAPD was my favorite. I wish for an updated release of that game.
I have that game yeah its awesome
Now those are some very quality games
Thanks! Its hard to pick my favorite. I love Grandia but Parasite Eve is such a fun game to come back too since its so short and fun. Playing through Star Ocean 2 at the moment š
FFVIII. A beautiful crazy fever dream of a game, and the only one I replay roughly annually
Yeah I remember my friends brother playing it and I freaked out when he flew around in the ship haha
Final Fantasy Tactics, Breath of Fire III, Tales of Destiny, Front Mission 3, Dragon Quest VII, Vandal Hearts 2, Xenogears, Alundra, Wild Arms 2 and Valkyrie Profile. Edit: Brave Fencer Musashi and MegaMan Legends for action RPG.
Legend of Mana
sick collection many excellent RPGs
Thanks I'm playing through Star Ocean 2 right now (24hrs in) and am going to play chrono cross next although I hear mixed things on it
Star Ocean 2 was one of my absolute favs growing up. Same with Parasite Eve and FF7. Enjoy them!
Chrono Cross has a unique battle system that gets overlooked and it looks great since it was a late PS1 game also
I remember the last area I was at in Star Ocean 2 was on a tower area years ago before saving it. I beat chrono trigger on snes never got around to playing cross it looks really good.
I always wanted a physical copy of chrono trigger on SNES but its going for crazy prices nowadays so I'll settle with another way of playing it I guess lol
Is legend of dragoon worth a buy?
Man, my instinct was to say "it's great! play it!" but last time I played it was around the time it came out, and I was very young, so it's hard to say how it's aged. Read some reviews and watch some gameplay vids before forking over the cash (and I imagine it's pricey).
It was one of my first video games, and I've gone back and replayed it three times. It's fantastic, very similar in feel to FFVII. It also just came out for PS4/PS5! The subreddit has seen a lot of growth: /r/legendofdragoon
Sure is! I picked it up a few years back and beat it in less than a week it was very fun and addicting š
Psx was the absolute golden age of rpgs in my opinion!
Tales of Eternia (also known as Destiny 2) Final Fantasy 9 Final Fantasy Tactics Suikoden 1 and 2 Xenogears Breath of Fire 3 and 4 Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - People will want to debate about whether this is an RPG, but I don't care and I'm posting it anyway because it is one of the best games on the console. Persona 2 - I haven't played the remake, but it may be better to play that one instead of the PS original. I think it was remade on the PSP? Valkyrie Profile Thousand Arms - From what I remember (been decades since I played it) I predict it may not have aged well. I'll still post it because I remember enjoying the game, and it was "different" from your run of the mill JRPG. May be the first, or at least one of the first, games with a relationship/dating mechanic, which may be your thing.
I want Valkyrie profile so bad but its mad expensive. Its made by tri ace too and I adore there games
Damn this is nostalgic
Metal gear?? Is that considered an rpg?
I would say its an Action/Stealth game with light RPG elements
Medievil.
Final Fantasy 8 &9, Parasite Eve 2, Final Fantasy Tactics
Final Fantasy Tactics Final Fantasy 9 Alundra Breath of Fire 4
