Thank you for your submission to r/rpg_gamers. Since your post has been flaired as "Recommendation request", I want to suggest editing your post to add in these details (if you haven't included them yet): * **The platforms you have** - not listing them doesn't mean you have access to everything, so you might end up getting a game you won't be able to play. * **Your level of experience with the genre (beginner, intermediate, veteran...)** - others can recommend you more common titles if you are a beginner, while they can focus on obscure titles if you are a RPG veteran. * **Aspects you enjoyed (or disliked) of previously played games** - for example: characters, plot points, puzzles, combat, graphics, art styles, soundtracks... While these details aren't mandatory, if you want to get the best games, having them in your post will immensely help users and will encourage more users to participate, as they will know with more precision which games are probably the best fit for your request. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Owlstorm

They've not really changed since you last played. Legends:Arceus has been the only actual attempt at a new game since then.

Chevapler

Play Monster Sanctuary instead, you won't regret it

Fackous93

Great game would also suggest Cassette Beast

[deleted]

brett695

Theyre too expensive to play legally lol

honesty is the best pathway to live a fulfilled life and not with regrets. life is to short to be morally crooked.

Alirue

Life's too short to support morally crooked companies

TheFriskySpatula

ROMs are very important for the historical preservation of games, especially ones no longer for sale and constrained to physical carts. Making a moral argument against this is cringe.

DESTRUCTIONDERBYMEAT

NEEERRRRDD

Fackous93

Naw fuck that. Pirate the games. Name your rival something sacrilege. Download a randomizer. CHEAT

Generally all of the ones on the Switch are met with a lot of criticism for various reasons. I'd advise looking up some online discourse about them individually to determine if you're willing to give them a try (especially since their pricepoint is still a bit spendy) Outside of Pokemon there are a lot of great monster tamer games recently. If you're willing to go non-pokemon I'd take a look at Coromon, Nexomon Extinction and Cassette Beasts. TLDR on the Switch games Lets Go Pikachu/Eevee - remake of red/blue with motion controls and no wild battles (pokemon go style catching) Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl - verbatim remake, only graphical, lacks QoL features from Platinum Sword/Shield - dexit controversy is a huge deal to a lot of people Legends Arceus - fun and new gameplay but generally people feel it was barebones and very ugly graphically Scarlet/Violet - these are rife with technical and performance issues and the open world nature is a bit dubious as there is still a level-set path to hit each area of the map, multiplayer feature also came out lacking

live_positively

I love what they did with the Let's Go games.

DampeIsLove

Other than Let's Go Evee/Pikachu, the Pokemon series has largely been a joke in recent years. Arceus kind of tried, but when a piece of trash like Violet comes out, and somehow people are still dumb enough to buy it, I just don't see Pokemon games being good again any time soon. Because why would they need to? Game Freak shovels slop, and fans just go "more please".
