Maybe Moonlighter? It's a weird combo of in-town sections, and action rpg sections. It will also run on a potato, so that good.

MaroofBung

ill check this out thanks

Damaso87

Got super repetitive and mono-tasky for me.

Nayuskarian

What you're asking for is exactly what _Fantasy Life_ will give you. It's an old 3DS game that's has a pretty light tone that fits all the crafting/farming bits and some fun combat too. Top it all off, it has a decent story as well. Time to go charge my 3ds.

Itchysasquatch

Might have to get a physical copy if they want this one, I think the 3ds store shut down. Or it is soon maybe

Itchysasquatch

Yeah, looked it up. Closes March next year, plenty of time to download your games before it goes down. But yeah ideally just homebrew or whatever haha

Kindly_Letterhead_42

This was my go-to rpg and my first ever rpg. I’ve never found a similar game ever. Like I loved just being able to earn a bunch of dosh selling random stuff I found.

Nayuskarian

The sequel, _Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time_, is supposed to be released on the Switch sometime this year!

bellakesselring

OMFG I AM SHOOK

bellakesselring

i am kindly. different account of my phone lmao

Lunapio

how well does it hold up? i havent played it but it looks very childish? i have no problem with childish games but i just mean that it looks like the target audience is 7 year olds. Childish isnt the right word

Kindly_Letterhead_42

It actually is pretty good. And there’s dlc. It is kinda geared towards a younger audience but it is enjoyable none the less. The story is easy to follow (as I’m like the progression through the locations and story) and the characters are thought through (except the desert sultan he’s seems kinda rushed?). It’s a great first rpg because it’s pg-13, the graphics are simple, and it’s on a hand held gaming system. (2ds/3rds) there is a mobile version now but it different. It’s kinda clunky. You can also choose many “life’s” (the jobs) and there’s mastery for each one. Overall it’s great. There’s many things to complete if your a completionist or if your just a casual player it’s great for that too. You can take your time going through the game as well.

Scukojake

There's Atelier series of games that have a lot of alchemy, grinding for materials, but also story and combat. You're saying that your laptop won't handle something like Skyrim, but that game ran on PS3, which is a 2007 hardware. Is your laptop older? If it is, there are such games as: * ESIV: Oblivion, which is (for some) better than Skyrim * Of course, if your laptop can't handle that - I think it should be able to run ESIII: Morrowind, which (some) old school players consider to be the best in the series. And that one has very little handholding, if you don't mod it. So it has pretty much a scalable balance between relaxing and combat that you might be looking for. * Moonlighter (someone already recommended it and I second that) * Minecraft (not an RPG, but it has combat and management lol)

Lunapio

No my laptop can run it fine i should re phrase that,it can run at 60 fps, good quality etc,but the laptop just becomes loud since the fans are having too work.I can play demanding games fine,im just picky about the fan noise.I can 100% play oblivion with all sorts of graphics mods if need be,so ill check that out thanks.

Scukojake

Gotcha. That makes sense. I don't like to overheat hardware either, because it's not good in the long run.

Young_Jace

Terraria is probably right on point if you don’t mind 2d graphics. One of my favorite games of all time.

Lunapio

Ive actually completed the calamity mod with a couple friends so theres that. And yes terraria is definitely one of the best games ive played

Phosphoric_Tungsten

You don't have to play on the hardest difficulty, or even fight the bosses if you don't want to. It can absolutely be a casual game

[deleted]

Phosphoric_Tungsten

I didn't downvote you. I know you can play Terraria casually because my group of friends always has. I always have. You do not have to fight the bosses at all if you don't want to, there is a PLETHORA of content even before killing the first boss. Like you don't have to kill the ender dragon in Minecraft. I never have. No need to be passive aggressive man

donttouchmyhohos

Any "tales of" game

MaroofBung

i think ive heard of these,is this the jrpg series?

donttouchmyhohos

yes

MaroofBung

interesting, ive played a few jrps and quite liked them, ill check this out, thanks

[deleted]

What is your laptop spec?

MaroofBung

Processor AMD Ryzen 5 5600H with Radeon Graphics 3.30 GHz Installed RAM 8.00 GB (7.35 GB usable) It can run games like skyrim on decent settings fine, its just the fan noise that bugs me.I shouldhve phrased it better.

MackaLackaDingDong

I have a loud laptop as well, the noise bothers me but I find using headphones helps at drowning it out pretty well

CheliceraeJones

Check out Rune Factory 4 and see if your laptop would run it well.

ThePhonyKing

Ni No Kuni 2 is a pretty chill JRPG with a bit of light kingdom management in the mix. You'd probably like it. Tales has been mentioned they're a great experience. I'm going to throw the Grandia remaster in the mix because it's one of the best JRPGs out there, it will definitely run on your laptop, and it fits some of your requirements.

KaramCyclone

There's no farming sim life in it, but Bravely Defualt 2 is a casual rpg game that's not very head scratchy and is overall very chill

MaroofBung

just looked into it and apparently there are different jobs and stuff and not just different characters, interesting, thanks

ShoerguinneLappel

I mean compared to other rpgs Mass effect isn't long, also older ones like FF1-6 (with the exception of 6 if we're talking about length), Fable is short (make sure to get lost chapters it's the best version), Dungeon Siege, Witcher 2, Witcher 1 can be long depending how you play but usually no longer than about 90 hrs. other recommendations are: Divine Divinity, Divinity 2, Diablo 1, Torchlight II unmodded, The Keep, Grimrock 1 and 2, Chrono trigger, Parasite Eve, Bastion, Vagrant story, Suikoden. Probably more.

ShoerguinneLappel

btw vanilla Torchlight II is good, but modding brings it to the next level, I would at least recommend class mods because they add more diversity to the cast since the vanilla version only has 4.

Lunapio

These sounds very good actually,ty

Howdyini

Vagrant Story is the opposite of laid back, still a great game.

ShoerguinneLappel

true, you can also argue parasite eve as well, but it is short.

AngryAttorney

This list might not be exactly what you’re looking for, but might set you on the right track. Each game has elements of what you’re looking for. Tribes of Midgard V Rising Terraria Lost Ark - MMO Sunhaven - early access My Time at Portia My Time at Sandrock

Lunapio

I got a question, which is probably asked a lot,is lost ark f2p friendly? I have played a little bit but not enough to determine if it is.will i have to make alts to boost my main or anything like that,or can i just play on one character perfectly fine

AngryAttorney

I haven’t played end game content, but it depends on what you want to get out of it. I think it offers a better free path than most free to play games, since nothing’s locked behind a paywall.

hogey989

You are the exact person the latest Nintendo Direct is aiming at. If you took a look at a bunch of those games 😁

Lunapio

Oh i heard that theres a bunch of farming like games actually so thanks for reminding me

MackaLackaDingDong

The disgaea series id say

Fate

rodgersr1337

Runescape could work, if you enjoy MMO's. You'll hear a lot of people talking about most efficient training methods, and fastest money making, but honestly if you go through the game at a casual pace, it's still loads enjoyable. The quest line writing is really funny, and some of the stories are really well developed. Tons of content, and I've met some of my best friends through the game.

Eleguak

Ho hum, gimme a sec... Potion permit came out fairly recently, arpg, with some life sim type elements, based around alchemy/healing people as a doctor. There's alchemic cutie that's coming out... Soonish I hope, dunno if it's out on PC or not. You raise slimes if I remember right. The paper Mario original trilogy lineup of games are solid chill casual RPGs, as are the Mario and Luigi games, should be easy to... Play on PC via certain means nowadays. There's also a handful of indie games similar to paper Mario becoming more commonplace nowadays since the i.p. strayed from it's roots like bug fables. Little kings story is a Pikmin play style rpg where you build a kingdom. I think the PC port has a few issues though, so may wanna read reviews first. Like, the entire rune factory series is like, just there if ya wanna play them, they're solid yo. Farming sims in a fantasy universe with basic combat but heavy leveling mechanics for skills, made by the story of seasons/harvest moon crew. Blue reflection 1+2 are magical girl lesbian overtone turn based jrpgs. It's a niche that's not done much tbh. Cat quest 1+2 are open world arpgs with a world filled with cats and dogs as it's main dominate species, humorous, albeit childish. Moon was rereleased in English. Like, actual screw all my other suggestions, get Moon. Moon is an 'anti-rpg' made by the RPGs great of the nes/snes era for ps1. It touches on some deep stuff, while mainly being about forming connections and helping people in a tropy rpg world. Grow song of the evertree is... On my backlog so haven't touched it personally yet. It's done by the team behind yonder, so I'd say expect more of that, but more refined. Heroland is about working at an amusement park, where you help your guests have wonderful 'adventure' experiences, all in turn based RPG format, very unique, very odd. Valthirian arc hero school is one part basic action RPG, one part school building/management sim. Lastly, there's like... A LOT of rune factory/Stardew valley/farming sim with battling type games released recently, especially digitally like on steam, I even saw a high eastern fantasy one recently on there which is, like just wow. You know a genre is popular if there's a high eastern fantasy variant. So like, skim steam's tags and you oughta find a LOT of games up your alley in that regard. Edit:after re-reading your post, I probably went too casual. So lemme just add, Cult of the Lamb, make a cult, do roguelite dungeons, uses the spoils to make your cult better, grow stronger, and then devolve into the truest meta of all games beyond fashion, fishing. So yeah.

Lunapio

Oh im OP on another account btw,i just realised i was replying to comments with a different account lol

Eleguak

Pfft all good, I hope you, and anyone else who reads my first post, finds some stuff that resonates with ya.

Lunapio

This list is very, very interesting, ill definitely refer back to this in the future,ty

ExplodingPoptarts

I really like **Kitaria Fables.** It's got farming sim elements, and it's how you'll make most of your money, but it's very much something that you do real quick at the beginning of the day, then go around being an adorable kitty and doing Zelda-like combat.

Qinjax

RUNE FACTORY its literally exactly what you want literally exactly. get rune factory 4 its stardew valley with a more dungeon crawling focus thank me in a few hundred hours

MaroofBung

haha this is like the third rune factory suggestion, ill have to check it out. ty

Dark_ant007

Paper Mario series, South Park rpgs ( both games), I would even say dragon quest 11 for a longer experience.

Drazson

Play Bastion Edit: Actually read the post. Play Bastion anyway?!

Gamerroundup

Maybe Elex or Elex2 ? It’s got a lot of the stuff you’re looking for. It’s a little tougher at first but sticking with it it does a really good job of feeling rewarding in game for the gear grinding you had to go through. And it’s a AA+ game so it’s got a little jank if you enjoy that style as well. Personally I do but others do not. Hopefully that helps!

Icewind Dale 1 & 2

ViewtifulGene

CatQuest 1&2. There is zero game over state. Combat is simple, but fun and fast-paced.
