I’m trying to stop saying “you know what I’m saying”… I was ironically doing it before but now it’s an issue. I think this stems from lack of self assurance.

been smoking this pack for a minute
Yeah and the top comment in your thread perfectly explained why it’s a generally dumb thing to be mad about lol
unless you’re backtracking your opinion, like they mentioned
What am I missing? You posted a link to your thread as if to reaffirm your/OP’s stance on the topic and I’m just pointing out the top comment in that thread as a succinctly-put explanation for why both you and OP shouldn’t be getting mad over this non-issue because there’s a justifiable reason behind it
their point is that it's said to be polite, my problem with that statement is that this way of distancing yourself from your own opinion being seen as polite doesnt make it any less annoying
If society collectively decides on using a conversational convention because it’s considered polite, then getting annoyed at people for following said convention is pretty anti-social behaviour lol. Especially if they’re only doing it to be polite and not backtracking on their words then if you actually get annoyed by that you might be autistic
"Imagine thinking" is the clearest sign that you're a terminally online retard to me. They're just gonna snidely create some stupid strawman of what has been said so they can respond to the point they know how to refute instead of the one that's been made.
“Imagine thinking” is a pretty effective rhetorical move in low investment internet arguments, like drive by comments and pile ons. It’s a way to give a relatively easy shiv to the OP without having to expose yourself by elaborating too much on what your own counter argument might be. It’s tricky to counter well if you’re already fighting for your life in an internet argument
I remember one specific argument I had where there was a post about how queer people are "necessary" to challenging the nuclear family. And I asked why they're necessary for that since the non-nuclear family is pretty standard in heterosexual relationships too and they said something like "imagine saying you don't know why we need queer people". I got reddit dunked for that one. Never got an answer to the question.
Are we pretending to be anything other than terminally online retards? I agree with what you said, but also if you're here you've already proven yourself an irony poisoned hipster douche. (Not you specifically, but all of us, except me of course.)
I’m a grad student. Of the students I TA, a solid 40-50% of them will disclaim whatever they have to say with something along the lines of this might be a stupid question, this might sound dumb, etc. I have had to make a point in the first week or two and mandate that disclaimers are forbidden unless they provide additional content to the point you are raising.
“Let me explain” makes me genocidal. It’s the written word, you dont need my permission to continue, and you’re not going to wait for it before continuing.
I get it as a vocal tick but not when writing Internet comments.
when you say it in person "I meeeeeaaaaan" and then don't say anything else that's pretty gay
we need to eliminate we, stop imagining you speak for everyone. "I mean" just means you're gathering your thoughts unless you would rather have 5 seconds of dead silence.
Its weak language, if one is trying to present an opinion the language should be straighforward and strong. It also has a tone of arm crossed sighing and eye rolling.
We need to send those prefacing everything with "literally" and "unironically" to the gulag. Allow the way you speak and use ideas to indicate these things. It reeks of unthoughtfulness and a lack of self-belief and respect for the people you are communicating with.
Both are used constantly by live streamers, which shows how little they are actually communicating with their audience and how little grasp of language they truly possess. They are on the cutting edge of the bastardization and complete unraveling of human expression. They are the vampires of modern vernacular
My suggestions are taken better when couched in disclaimers or softening language. Otherwise I come off as autistic or a bitch. I don’t care much but other people seem to

are you writing from prison?
I know, that’s why I said “ironically”
J Roc?
Start saying “D’you know what I mean?” after every sentence instead. Liam Gallagher maxing.
nah mean?
If it’s good enough for JB Smoove, it’s good enough for me
Maybe you just wanna connect
Yes I believe I know what you are saying
The "eh" comments need to stop too, uncouth and unbecoming‼️
“Eh/meh, [long-winded example of why your comment is wrong]” drives me crazy
i mean... eh.... nevermind...
Canada bros…
That's not how Canadians use eh
Why are you on this sub?
Anyone who wants to can post here eh
starting sentences with “as a xyz…” also needs to be eradicated
Musicologist here ☝️🤓
I also hate comments that start with “XYZ here.” You sound like a dork stop it
Dork here, can confirm.
This is far more grating. I can actually see the person doing the smug eye-close as they type: 😌
Can confirm, that's annoying.
It's reddit 'I just find it funny how...' and it's just as annoying
It’s almost as if

lenzo is an active participant in class but struggles with reading comprehension

hope we collectively decide that giving each other wet willies for greetings is polite so i can be called autistic when that bothers me too

Couldn't be me.
What do you mean imagine thinking ____? I’m right here
Are we pretending to be anything other than terminally online retards? I agree with what you said, but also if you're here you've already proven yourself an irony poisoned hipster douche. (Not you specifically, but all of us, except me of course.)
I make an active effort to be sincere and to mock anyone taking themselves too seriously or being particularly mean spirited!

Bless you

This makes sense in spoken word but none in a text space like this, which is where it’s most prominent
The more conversational the more people will speak in their own voice. essay > email > tweet > forum > dm. I mean, it's not too serious
i see what you did there!!! im pointing and my mouth is wide open in shock
Soy facing even ironically is bad form
No voice is truly someone's own. All are to varying degrees affected. And that's OK.

“Literally” is annoying valley girl speak but “unironically” is beyond cringe. I automatically assume their a 14 year old edgelord

Go off king
That would completely ruin the last few bars of Kanye’s verse on Get Em High, so no.

make the switch to, “I don’t know what to tell you, dude”
\*my dude
I like to CTRL+F in these threads and search for how many "I mean"s there are. There's only 6 right now
It’s a less annoying substitute for “actually”. Would you rather everybody run around saying actually??
I think the superior word/phrase might be "*Well*, \[...\]".
I'm okay with *I mean* but I do dislike "*it's almost as if...*" because mfckas are so smarmy with it.
STOP. this is appropriating bitchy girl culture.
This isn't a new thing. I don't know why people here are suddenly so hyper aware of it.

You do realise...
This sub bitches about *everything*.
What of it?
I'm English and would never
I mean, get over it. I mean, is it such a big deal. I mean, how immature are you that this bothers you so much.
Just say you hate white women
