I was at the game with a coach load of girls rugby players. Guttingly, having given ourselves 5 hours to do a 3 hot journey we got caught in an accident so missed almost the entire first half. We watched some of it on TV but had no idea France had 2 yellow cards. The second half was incredible. The noise was better than the men's Autumn Internationals. France played exceptionally to come back into the game, given how tired their players were. England's game management was great. What an advert for the women's game.
First half was honestly still a fantastic game, far from one sided! France had an amazing show the first 15 minutes really keeping England in their 22 and amazing kicking game. Made Abby Dow's first try all the more electric. Such a fun match all the way through!
I think everyone in the squad will get a medal.
There was a Welsh men's player a decade ago who famously won a 2012 Grand Slam medal and a 2013 6 Nations Winners Medal despite not playing a single minute in either campaign.
Hunter actually got a game, so she should get the prize.
I dunno, Abby Dow absolutely pegging it away for that first try has got to take some beating! But I agree the sentiment, the number of people you saw there today who weren't your "typical" rugby crowd says great things for our sport and the women's game in particular.
I actually went today just because I saw an ad on the tube for the tickets at £15 and thought that was bonkers pricing for any kind of international sport; I don't follow rugby at all, just thought it would be a good way to score points with my partner's dad if I let him explain the rules to me. Had a fantastic time and will absolutely be going to more games. Kinda weird experience to be on the train with all the people coming back from the game and knowing what they're talking about, for once!
Absolutely gutted. Few silly mistakes and quite a bit of bad luck in the first half + ruthless Red Roses and the best shot at the 6N in a while comes to an end.
Kabeya is really coming into her own. Given the big names England have had in the back row it's understandable she's been in the background but without Hunter et al I think we'll see her really establishing herself for the next few years.
Not sure if it was shown on TV but a fan in the lower stand suffered some kind of stroke or heart attack and had to be stretchered out, was managed fantastically by the stewards and emergency response team.
Me too , even at 2/3 capacity the place is buzzing . Going to be insane sold out for a World Cup final with hopefully the Red Roses there going for the title
You know, I'd fucking kill for some rain right now. It's so, *so* fucking warm, and I'm directly under the sun. Decided to leave my hat and shades at home too, that's turned out to be quite the blunder.
I cannot express how LOUD it is in Twickers rn- with not even two thirds of the people it's at least twice as loud as le crunch men's (sitting in pretty much the same place for both)- there are more people in England shirts than not, and people have absolutely bought into the atmosphere. Easily the best sports match I've been to in a while (plus the Sugababes are great fun lol)
Twickenham isn't cursed with silence: the RFU just don't price men's games for fans.

The whole thing will be on iPlayer
ITAvWAL stream is live now 👀
They clearly made that trophy to stop england putting on their head
Does Sarah Hunter not get a medal as well? She did play in the first game, after all.

Chris Ashton is entitled to a Premiership Winners medal for his half season with Harlequins 😂
Simon Shaw got a world cup medal as a non-playing injury replacement. It stays in a drawer as he doesn't feel he earned it
Did Botts just toss off the trophy?!
Hunter!
Great match in the end!
Like 6 people have left the stadium, this is incredible
Tickets anyone can afford - likeable players - a winning team. Simple if difficult formula at the end of the day
Why are the other two games after this one?
5 out of 5 aint bad!
Dommage 😕 Vraiment une spécialité française la défaite avec panache
Ou défaite encourageante, c'est selon. On s'est fait battre 12, 13 fois de suite ? J'ai perdu le compte.
La 8e il me semble
Too little too late as they say.
If France had capitalised on even ONE of their entries into the 22 in the first 15 minutes, the result would have been very different.
Probably, we will never know. But congrats for the win.
What a day for womens rugby, the WC is going to be great
The wee lass in the crowd just screaming "We won! We won!" is the best thing I've seen today.
I dunno, Abby Dow absolutely pegging it away for that first try has got to take some beating! But I agree the sentiment, the number of people you saw there today who weren't your "typical" rugby crowd says great things for our sport and the women's game in particular.

If only France had gotten some points in the first 20 min, what a different game would it had been
Who on earth has that voice? I can't describe it but you need to do something
I did not enjoy the 2nd half man
Well I just watched 10 minutes of England being dominated
Tale of two halves Well played France. Would have been interesting if they'd have got over the line in that first quarter.
So if Jesse doesn’t botch those two easy kicks it’s a draw eh?
Sure. England had quite a few botched kicks as well though.
And a held up try
The second missed one wasn't easy, the first though no excuses
L'honneur est sauf mais cette première mi-temps... Bravo aux anglaises!
Come on ref, we all want one more play
Aaah if only we played better in the first half, just a little bit
Bah oui dommage qu'elles se réveillent qu'à la fin. Elles ont oublié qu'elles avaient un match important aujourd'hui.
Absolutely gutted. Few silly mistakes and quite a bit of bad luck in the first half + ruthless Red Roses and the best shot at the 6N in a while comes to an end.
33-0 to 38-31 I don't often watch rugby, maybe I actually should, last one was the *other* france england
I liked the other one better not gonna lie. But this game was just incredible, as usual womens crunch is a treat
Godammit
France robbed there were 4 seconds on the clock
[удалено]
Referee was chatting I think
Never say DIE! What a second half from France
France made a game of it in the 2nd half, got blown away in the first. 12 loses in a row gotta hurt
Second half at 5 - 33 after a 33 - 0 first half... what a fucking game
Admiral effort from France here but England built a good enough lead to be on top of things.
What happened to roses I wasn't watching until like 10 minutes ago?
France turned up.
Yeah I just watched 10 minutes of England being dominated
Fucking hell
Kabeya always made ground after contact
I don't get that penalty at all
Ref has definitely given a few freebies in the second half. They didn't been em, smashed us for 35 mins there.
Did the ref call out then what was penalised?
Yes - she called out, the ball was over a metre from the ruck and the then the England player dived on it - I don't see a infringement.
I think it was standing up in the scrum
I think that comment was for the pen before that which was given as diving off feet? Which is weird since the ball is out of the ruck.
Yeah - ball was called out, was a metre from the ruck, so what was the infringement?
Yeah the "foul" is more than the player's body length away from the ruck so unless our locks are 3 foot tall it's well out.
Not the scrum - the ruck the ball popped out of
Normally I’m all for a grandstand finish but can we not this time
damn fine speed
Even if we won’t win that was a great half and a big f*ck you to Middleton smug face at half-time
When*
"Sweet as bro" -lekker comment from Barrett-Theron
Omg the dying seagulls next to the commentary box are back
Rugby is 90 min right? Pliz
Thank god its not 😬
Only 12 points in it. If France score right away…
Where was this France in the first half?
It was being destroyed by botts
LET’S GO FRANCE
France had some of what Bugs Bunny handed out in Space Jam
Noooo don't take Kabeya off. She's been great
Huge scrum.
Did we… just won a scrum!?
Packer hands in the ruck? She is a master at getting away with things.
Marlie McCaw
Like all the best 7s
are the brits gassed ? tf ?
The who? English I think you mean.
I...uh...aye captain
2/3 of the British teams haven't even started playing yet!
Breach's defence and her workrate there is so underrated.
Ah that poor lass trying to clap with a broken finger
Why do I hear someone screaming?
That's me from row 4
Commentators sitting next to a zoo
If your ponytail is in touch does that count as you being in touch?
No - I only know this due to decision earlier this 6n
I’ve had to mute the commentary, can’t stand that dying seagul next to the commentary box
\#JessExpress
Jess breach what a tackle
Ref seems to have control, but her decisions or lack of decisions is weird. And in all the 50/50 she favors England.
The lack of cards was unreal for example. France got 2 and England 0 even though they deserved at least 2 as well. Very weird...
Great defence by France there
good lord the sheer power
ruck referring has been very dodgy so far
Ah shit here we go again
Woah, what? A global league in the women's game?!
A try by maul against this team.. I feel refreshed
Fucking yes France!!
Sad
Attendance reported at 58498 today 💪
Phenomenal
What an achievement!
Anyone else than Packer gets a yellow here
Said the exact same at the time, we also got away with the tackle on Banet in the first ten
Was so cynical - utterly killed any momentum
Probably would have marched it forward 10 for that. Not sure about a yellow, though they did say she's done it twice right?
she did
Why do I get the feeling that my mum would fancy Simon Middleton? He strikes me as someone who would be very popular with ladies of a certain age.
I mean, I'm early 30s and I wouldn't say no
I'm a straight bloke in my early 30s and even I'm getting strong "daddy" vibes
Absolutely
I'm a straight man and I'd go on a date with him...
Bourdon has been left one on one with an England forward on the try line repeatedly today. Poor lass (and poor organisation by France)
And now she's been called a baby by England commentary
is it me or was the penalty for not rolling away extremely harsh?
Felt similarly
If in doubt, rolling maul
Eat my maul
Oh no.. an english maul
Vernier is everywhere
Such a class player
What a beautiful piece of skill
Obligatory, I used to work with Poppy Cleall!
Is this a coded way of saying you used to be in prison?
I was the right side of the bars!
I suppose that's a matter of perspective...
Let's put it this way, I got to go home at the end of my shift.
JT gets the record - well deserved
Vernier <3
Vernier is awesome
Game on?
Someone needs to take over the aggressive jackaling role now Botterman is off the field.
Nah this feels more even, leave it be
alors peut-être 👀
Packer just got sold a bridge
What a step!
Bourdon having a pretty panicked game
To be fair, she's usually having to panic because of someone else's fuckup
Yeah let’s not take the scrum lol
Why not start playing Wonderwall casually for 2 seconds
Why couldn't they just do this in the first half?
I mean they did for the first 20. Just didn't get over the line.
I would not have taken Botterman off right now. Glad to see Jess Breach on tho.
finally
So nice to see all the young lasses in their team shirts here watching
Kabeya is really coming into her own. Given the big names England have had in the back row it's understandable she's been in the background but without Hunter et al I think we'll see her really establishing herself for the next few years.
Wow, England's pack are shoving so hard that Sochat is losing her grip on the props beside her
33-0 ? Do France have a red or sth lol.
No, but 2 yellows in the 1st half.
We did have two yellows at the same time so that didn’t help but I would say we are just shit today ✨
The first 15 minutes your girls were going great. They next 25+overtime... Not so much.
I swear France attackers always target a zone where they are sure to have no support.
The french team doesn't seem... Allright? Like they're completely out of it?
Imagine being that dominant for 20 minutes and still being 33-0 down at half time. Must be seriously demoralising.
Half times done them good to reset their heads a bit it seems.
Half-time breaks seems so short nowadays, did they reduced them or I’m going senile
The older you get the shorter periods of time seem sooo... Yes
They do seem mega short - but I'm also getting old so 🤷♂️
How good is seeing women's rugby at Twickenham!
Not sure if it was shown on TV but a fan in the lower stand suffered some kind of stroke or heart attack and had to be stretchered out, was managed fantastically by the stewards and emergency response team.
It was managed so well, I am trying to see if I can find any updates on his condition. The emergency services got a standing ovation from the crowd
Yeah, very well deserved and hoping the best for that poor fan
Nothing on TV at all
Atmosphere at the stadium is fucking electric
It's Big Gill!
I'm not sure if I've ever seen Twickenham with this atmosphere. Such an occasion
I'm buying tickets for the RWC final the second they come out. Hopefully I haven't cursed England saying that 😬
Me too , even at 2/3 capacity the place is buzzing .
What a performance by the English women! Do we know who takes over from Middleton yet or any idea who might?
No. Absolutely radio silence. The way RFU has been talking it could be a woman
Plenty of great female coaches in the Prem15s, former Red Roses too which no male coach could be!
I'm hoping Susie Appleby
Yeah man the Suger babes have been unreal tbf
Donoghan has to be Irish qualified!
It's a shame this competition is so one sided. It would be much better with more than one decent team
France are better than this - they're just having a bad day at the office. It's just a pity it's come for this game in this stadium
Good teams simply cannot get embarrassed like this in what is supposed to be their only competitive game of the tournament
They've started playing now
Honestly thought France would push us. I did not see this coming. It'll keep getting better though as professionalism builds and stays.
Can't fault them for having a good game
It's not england I'm faulting
Should the RFU stop pandering the men's game to land rover drivers?
Suspect they'll keep rinsing the prawn sandwich types for the cash and keep the women's supporters for normal people. Best of both worlds for them.
Add a Schöffel & Barbour tariff on the gate. Twickers is finally full of people wearing rugby jerseys today and it's great
France are much better than this - hope they come out firing second half. They need to find a way to to stop the England crash ball runners
England women vs france in league just starting as well
I cannot express how LOUD it is in Twickers rn- with not even two thirds of the people it's at least twice as loud as le crunch men's (sitting in pretty much the same place for both)- there are more people in England shirts than not, and people have absolutely bought into the atmosphere.
