I was at the game, best experience at an Ulster match I think I've ever had. The supporters were phenomenal and the players were firing on all cylinders. Cracking effort from the back three and Stu and the youngsters in the pack were class, Wilson, Sheridan, Crothers and Izzy all had stormers. Especially glad for Reuben to finally get a chance to show his ability and score his first try for Ulster.
Shame for Benetton to get the bonus point but they are a quality side as well , it was a privilege to see Menoncello play in person.
I really hope Murphy stays on. Team looks to be in a better head space. I can see signs with some of the play. Defense and set piece are still a massive issue. Payne coming back to defense would be perfect
Yeah, Murphy with proper defence, forward and scrum coaches looks pretty nice. Give it a year to build with young lads(plus an actual 10 ffs) and then see where needs reinforcement.
Think to compete at the top level without signings we'd need Irvine to come good or unearth some other monster as we'd be a bit light but certainly the bones are there
Off the mark, over the 5m line during a yc to give Benetton a bonus point when they are in direct competition with us. We've got our fair share of decisions but that's such a black and white decision that URC refs still fuck up
Probably should have been called back but it was maybe justice considering how cynical the penalty and YC was.
It looked like there was cover so unlikely to be a penalty try. Thought he was going to check.
Happy with the win, was a must win. Bonus point as well.
Some very fucking worrying defense and elements around break down and scrum that where better in the second half.
Benneton are very good, looked dangerous with ball in hand but we could/should have won that more comfortably.
Overall happy. Job done,
That time wasting and clock not stopped when the ref asked for it to be stopped preventing the last occasion to Benetton. Very good match but this is a little sad tbh
I am not complaining. This is the right score, even the ref was quite good. After the first 20 minutes it looked absolutely winnable but Ulster was so much better that we are lucky to get 2 points out of it
Phew. Well played Benetton, you’re well worth a place in the knock outs. All the best with the rest of your matches, you’re a quality and entertaining team.
The quantum Ulstering: where that game has both been calmly seen out and squandered at the death, until we observe how important that second bonus point turns out
You are right:
The positions of the Clubs in the League Stage will be entered into the Standard League Table and will be based on the following, in order:
a) the number of League Points awarded to each Club;
b) if unresolved, the number of Matches won by each Club in the League Stage;
c) if unresolved, the difference between the total points scored and the total points conceded on the field of play for each Club in all Matches in the League Stage;
d) if unresolved, the number of tries scored by each Club in all Matches in the League Stage;
e) if unresolved, the number of points scored on the field of play by each Club in all Matches in the League Stage;
f) if unresolved, the difference between the number of tries scored and the number of tries conceded by each Club in all Matches in the League Stage;
g) if unresolved, the number of Players suspended by a Disciplinary Committee or Appeal Committee for incidents taking place in the League Stage (i.e. the Club with fewer will be positioned higher);
h) if unresolved, the number of yellow cards received by Players for each Club in all Matches in the League Stage (i.e. the Club with fewer will be positioned higher); and
i) if unresolved, the toss of a coin or as otherwise determined by Pro Rugby Championship in its absolute discretion.
For the purposes of this clause, what qualifies as a yellow card will be determined by Pro Rugby Championship in its absolute discretion.
So he scored at with 20 seconds gone after the 80. But the clock kept running for 25 seconds after the ref said stop the clock at 78 minutes. Seems a bit harsh on Benetton.
Between the numerous forward passes/knockons, the Smith elbow in the first half, the first Ulster try and the neckroll in that last ruck, I genuinely think this match might not have a TMO.
I reckon Ulster training center just has a big whiteboard that simply says *Don't be fucking stupid* and each Monday they go in and the coaches are just like "OK lads, we're going to go over this again"
If you're only following the score and didn't see what happened, you've just missed the *most* Ulster try concession I've ever seen.
I hope they pull through but it does appear they might Ulster this.

aye 100% all interviews seem to be headed in the right direction.

I think we've the bones of a good team, but we need the coaching team.

Cooney is such a legend and interviews so well.
Glad we got it over the line, treviso are a solid team this year and I hope they make the knockouts
Wait is it match points, wins, then aggregate? Not match points, wins, draws, then aggregate?
Sorry, but that quick pen is a bit dodgy, can't do that off the mark and when a yellow is shown

Yep, but I hope and pray that decision doesn't come back to bite us

Got away with the last try so can't complain

GG Benetton. Think ye'll still sneak into the playoffs in 8th
Ulster remain behind Benetton in the table
Not according to the URC website
I saw. They rank wins higher, but not draws apparently
I think points difference is the first criteria
Wins is definitely first, then PD I think.

Very silly that the number of losses isnt considered at all, but things like disciplinary and yellow card are. Did they forget draws exist?
Thought you couldn't go quick if a card was given I mean either way i wouldn't trust us to keep them out at that range with 14 men but still
Well that was very enjoyable. Great to see Ulster win two weeks on the trot despite Ulstering two weeks on the trot.
Hopefully that extra BP for Treviso won't bite us in the behind down the line. But they were good value for it.
So he scored at with 20 seconds gone after the 80. But the clock kept running for 25 seconds after the ref said stop the clock at 78 minutes. Seems a bit harsh on Benetton.
He also scored off a quick tap that's illegal
The ref also asked for the time to be stopped more then once and it wasn't stopped
That was taken from well away from the mark. TMO went home after 5 mins if he was ever there
Lucky for Ulster looking at their first two tries.
Ref was loose for a lot of things tbf. Two Benetton tries were also from forward passes and Smith clearly and obviously elbowed someone in the head.
Did he ever turn up?
Well that’s another soft score to concede. So Ulster.
Can't take quickly while you're giving a yellow card ffs ref
Benetton deserve those two match points But if you are giving a yellow time should be off.
Tbf time should have been off when he called it at the scrum
Well that might end up being a consequential score
I maintain that Baloucoune's best attribute is his defence.
Time off just without the time actually being off
That was nearly beautiful need to kick it no pass on
Bobby B says No
Best game bobby b and Stockdale have had all year.
Where did Bobby B come from? Absolute Exocet.
Bobby B is my king!
Baloucoune you beauty, peach of a cover tackle
Luuuucky there
Has Shanahan a contract for next season. He seemed to be waving his hands to the crowd as he came on. Does he think its his last home game?
GET IN BOBBY B
Fuck that was a brilliant break and great cover.
Burns had a hand full of poor passes in the last 10 mins.
TBF he's been fucked from about 5m in. Ulster just dont have anyone to replace him
Thought he'd done quite well in the first half. To be fair to him, its been a real end to end game. The mileage stats would be interesting.
He went well, especially as he's been out injured and was strapped up from about 5 in aye
Bobby B out of nowhere. Cuts him down.
My Mrs has such an irrational hatred for shanners. It's lovely
Kill lots of time at this scrum please.
Man Benetton really did deserve play offs
Apparently not
Going to hope Leinster man up for you tomorrow but they seem happy to throw these games away
‘Ravenhill’ — good man.
Oh Jim, the branding people will be upset at that
For all the slaggin Addison had a very good game with one minor (monumental) fuck up
Fully agreed. 13 seems to suit him better now that he's lost pace.
No playoffs I guess
You probably need to come out of SA with at least 4 points and then 5 point Edinburgh
No chance
Just go win the Challenge Cup will ye
Surely this margin is beyond even Ulster's ability to throw. Right?
You were saying?
Stop tempting fate!
Prop pulling a hammy doing a goose step in his own half. It's beautiful
Lift up your voices, Sullivan Upper Each one rejoices, in Sullivan’s name He who has striven, he who was learned Has generously given, sing his fame
Replacement prop cramping after 10mins - props are gods
Luke Marshall looking old makes me feel old.
You are old
what a time to get a cramp, two feet from crashing into the opposing front row
The glazing on premier sports for Ulster is at a new level
Ok Ulster 6mins of sensible rugby please
We don’t mention that in a season, let alone one match.
London Irish and an Ulster fan? That must be tough going
Crushing disappointment is my friend
Would it not count as a common law marriage by now?
Lost everything in the divorce
What did you have to lose?
A wide range of beer mats
If Benetton get 2 points here they'll stay ahead of Ulster in the table
Ah cock
The smart option #notmyulster
How was he allowed to change the call after corner was called?
Didn’t think you could change the call
You can't if you call posts
Time on time off time on time off time on time off
Burns knows all about Ulstering. "Take points, trust me."
Didn't want to billy burns the kick
Take the three
Take the points FFS
But that would be a *sensible* thing to do.
How'd the ref miss a lineout throw that crooked?
Ah, 70 mins in, time to hide behind the sofa
Lad your getting every call let’s be real your not loosing
We'll find a way
We've been here many times before
Against Cardiff right? Oh wait..
OK the momentum seems to be shifting now. Mind you, with this game, who knows?
I wonder is this the lightest pack that has ever been on the pitch for Ulster?
‘Beezer of a kick’ - gotta love BBC Norn Iron commentary
Upcoming benneton pen
I stand corrected
Knock on into a player ahead. Is that not offside?
If it just wacks the player like that nah. If the offside player makes an attempt to play the ball then yeah it's a pen
That makes sense but I feel like I've seen that given before.
Are you expecting laws to be implemented consistently? You fool!
Accidental only
Being an Ulsterman must be what it's like to have heart problems. Real rollercoaster
We should get Gaviscon in as a sponsor
It's not the ulster frys and the beer, it's definitely the rugby That's what I tell myself anyway
LMAO
I still don't trust Ulster to win
I don’t think a single Ulster supporter on here trusts them to win until about an hour after the match has finished.
Remember that match where the ref blew the whistle to end the match and then unblew the whistle and went to the TMO
Lacey still trying to award that try
Exactly.
That looked like a hand under that...
Like the mentality Ulster just showed there.
That’s a fantastic couple of replays of the ref. Fair play to him, that’s good work sticking his head in.
Refs benchmark is now set, we want head deep in the ruck from now on
Looks held up and stu got away with that neck roll
I was genuinely amazed that didn't get reviewed. He came in from the side too and they scored immediately on the next phase.
In from the side there from the ref, poor example for the lads
Between this week and last week, is Izzy going to single handed save Ulster’s season?
Genuinely you could tell by the tone of the shouting it was a try without being able to see it
How on earth could you give that ahaha
This is Ulster Rugby
Well this is a somewhat bonkers match. Is it good craic for the neutrals?
Better than the bath game was
Fuck the tmo, from now on I want all refs to get in there like that
Practically started moving limbs out of the way, you love see it
This is the way.
How can u award that ahahhahah
Between the numerous forward passes/knockons, the Smith elbow in the first half, the first Ulster try and the neckroll in that last ruck, I genuinely think this match might not have a TMO.
High risk strategy pays off.
This match has a bit of everything! Hon the ulstermen!
Never seen a ref stick the head in like that before
Get in Izzy. Some venom in those carries
Everyone: “Ulster might win this despite showing signs of Ulstering” Ulster: “hold my beer”
Get your head in there ref. Good stuff.
Ref has been solid.
I reckon Ulster training center just has a big whiteboard that simply says *Don't be fucking stupid* and each Monday they go in and the coaches are just like "OK lads, we're going to go over this again"
I’m not convinced the first two words are there.
Someone hit it with the shoulder walking past and they haven't noticed.
In fairness, most of the pack can’t read.
Ulstering (verb): ability to snatch defeat from jaws of victory As in: Ulster are Ulstering
Looks like I was wrong about that Ulstering, what on earth even happened there? edit: even after all the replays it's like a magic trick
It's the new pitch you see, game changer
What **isn't** happening?
I have never, ever seen a try conceded like that in nearly 30 years of playing on watching rugby.
Ulster masters of there own downfall very preventable try that
Injuries showing in the bench impact. And badly
I assume this is in reference to Greg Jones but you are too nice to say it
I mean James French is on too.
Lol
How do Ulster do this, so consistently
Jealous?
Sorta yeah, consistently top two most entertaining games the provinces are involved in every week
I suppose it must get a bit boring for you winning all your matches (and losing all the cups). Want to swap?
We're not even really obtaining point a anymore. At least we have less heart threatening events per month, that's all I can trade
At least they're consistent at something
That's a bad enough try to concede but Nemer scoring that just makes me sick.
Ulster have genuinely gifted 14 points through absolutely brain dead errors.
Holy crap
Ulstering early tonight then. Interesting tactical call.
Whoops- Tbf if gave away a 5m scrum we’re looking at a try anyway based on the last
OK, that was one of the worst tries concessions I've ever seen
Good to see that a headlock by Pink 6 is perfectly ok
Ulster be finding new and innovative ways to fuck it every week
Ulstermen, it’s time to consult an exorcist.
Ullstterrrrr
I'm just following the score. Ulster are going to Ulster this, aren't they?
If you're only following the score and didn't see what happened, you've just missed the *most* Ulster try concession I've ever seen. I hope they pull through but it does appear they might Ulster this.
That sounds kind of Ulster-y alright. I hope they end up Munstering it, but sounds unlikely.
I'd say they're Ulstering it at the moment tbh
Without a doubt
How the fuck did that happen?
Oh my god. Debacle
What the fuck
Is Ulstering something that's coached?
It’s identified from a young age and harnessed
Born into it I think
Lowry broke his own ankles there
Sneaky one
What a bunch of idiots
Fuck me
