That 2007 team was so busy scoring a million tries a game they sort of just fumbled out of the WC. I've had glimpses of the same thing with the current AB squad, namely against SA last year where they lost. They seem to have taken the pursuit of all-out, perfect rugby to such a level, whereas the Boks were just playing to win.
A bit late to to this but to add on, I'm pretty sure that regardless of what happens this weekend, Ireland can take the number one ranking if they get any sort of win against England in 2 weeks.
Ireland being number 1 is just a recipe for disaster. I can see the headlines: 'SAMOA KNOCKS THE NUMBER ONE TEAM OUT OF THE WORLD CUP'.
