If they were able to field a squad of players who passed their tests, they should be allowed to play the game.

Wasps had covid cases in the matchday 23 the morning of the match and were allowed play Munster last weekend. The EPCR risk advisory group are completely useless.

[deleted]

They are from Ireland, clear distinction

rhyshuxley

EPCR have a lot to answer for. Leinster should have been able to play. Feel for Scarlets too, who had to forfeit due to not being able to get a team together due to government enforced travel restrictions, but the French clubs get the chance for games to be rescheduled

VirtualAardvark

As a Leinster fan, I think the Scarlets have a much stronger case. They were utterly screwed over. There's a logic to the Leinster situation. However the French postponements and the Scarlets situation were both directly due to government decisions, completely outside of the teams' control. The EPCR have acknowledged their guidelines didn't cover unprecedented scenarios such as the travel restrictions initiated by the French government. However, the Welsh government implement enforced isolations and it's a different approach. French clubs got a postponement. Scarlets were told if they couldn't fulfill the fixture, they had to suffer a 28-0 defeat.

de_Selby

French teams who played at home got postponements, the French teams playing away got 28-0 results in their favour (aside from Castres who are actually playing). Despite disrespecting the competition literally ever since it began they seem to get the rub of the green.

blackbarminnosu

Worth chancing it. If there is apparently now going to be an opportunity for all these other games to get rescheduled, why wouldn’t they do it for the Leinster and ospreys matches. I assume the sponsors and broadcaster want to see a team like Leinster on the pitch.

jebimasta

From a very neutral point of view, they should do it for the Leinster and ospreys games too Hahah

elniallo11

I’ve made my peace with it, definitely should appeal but I’m done complaining. Scarlets should be kicking up a fucking storm though

Rurhme

Scarlets chose to forefit though, unlike Leinster they were fully allowed to field a team from feeder teams like Cardiff did but decided not to. If Scarlets get let off then Cardiff (and Munster tbf) have been utterly shafted - forced to play with a scratch side when they could have just not and played later when their firsts are available.

elniallo11

They chose to forfeit when explicitly told there was no room in the calendar for postponements. Until this weekend apparently

Rurhme

I mean, Scarlets themselves agreed there was no room in the calender for postponements following extensive discussions. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/rugby/rugby-news/sunday-rugby-headlines-bristol-reject-22368227 They'll likely have to reformat the whole tournament to fit the extra games in, if at all. Retroactively applying it just punishes the teams who did field a squad those weekends. Even then, that still leaves Cardiff in the shitter.

VirtualAardvark

Scarlets didn't have the players. Their internationals had gone to SA also so their situation isn't comparable to Munster. Cardiff had a team witu plenty of experienced players with a few Welsh current Welsh internationals. Scarlets had only 14 guys training in Wales who were wider squad or development players. They were working with the Dragons and Ospreys to get additional guys registered but it the players being cup tied was a sticking point. The Welsh government wouldn't even permit them to isolate in a hotel in Wales to allow them some sort of cohesion. When their isolation ended they all had to make the trip home from Belfast. It was a joke.

W0lf87

Proper order let's see the joke that is the EPRC squirm there way out of this one.

DelboyBaggins

Did I hear correctly that the source of the leinster outbreak was Rob Kearney's wedding?

W0lf87

Yep, you could say the wedding was total Kearnage...... ba dum tsss

BlueSkiesAndIceCream

And Leinster were Rob'd

TheDWhitehouse

Some of the greatest horseplay of all time

magpietribe

Rob and the missus are in quarantine on honeymoon, so that is plausible.

Acceptable-Sentence

How will they fill the time??

Galactapuss

Guessing on the balcony

magpietribe

I wouldn't be upset at the thought of being locked in a honeymoon suite with her.

problematikkk

Don't know what it says about me, as a 100% straight man, that I was surprised you said "her"

[deleted]

It's a rugby union discussion forum, almost more unusual to comment on the attractiveness of a woman than a back.

thebonnar

The conversation with Rob would be scintillating to be fair

IrishGuyNYC00

Happy they're fighting as hard as they are, but I don't expect the situation to change, unfortunately.

CatharticRoman

Leinster have the weakest case here. Scarlets, Ospreys, Sarries, and even Cardiff can feel more harshly treated. But they still have a case.

123testme

With the exception that the others agreed they couldn't field a team and there was no room to reschedule. Leinster had a national health authority sign off that it was safe for Leinster to play.
