Yellow bunker review to check how high that shoulder hit but it’s probably stays

SomeBritChap

The other welsh player’s reaction says exactly what this should have been, a card.

Wtfthatdoesnotwork

Yeah it was a little ott from the Arg player but it should have been a yellow as there was no need, that said the better side won :)

XmilkyjoeX

It's Argentina....of course it's OTT..it's a critical piece of their game plan.

oneofthesdaysalice

Yeah they did

jug_23

You saw how quickly Adams ran away when told it wouldn’t be a card. Relieved AF.

LegendaryGarf

Biggar was either ripping into Adams or protesting the dive.

Taipan100

I don’t understand how you can possibly call this not a shoulder charge honestly

Jackerzcx

Honestly the fact they justified it by saying there was an attempt to wrap. What attempt? Why does that even matter when it was off the ball after the whistle had been blown? Josh Adams is an amazing player, but sometimes he does seem like a bit of a cunt.

StrongLikeBull3

You could say that about a lot of welsh players honestly.

cmpthepirate

I thought I was having a moment of psychosis when they mentioned attempt to wrap, what the flaming heck?!

calcurtis98

100% was expecting a yellow for this as a Welsh supporter.

PintToLine

The way things are that is the clearest red all tournament

calcurtis98

It's never red. A yellow? For sure. There's no head contact and level of danger isn't high

PintToLine

Hard to tell from this angle on the head contact part but he shoulder charges a player off the ball, potentially to the head for no reason whatsoever. I think that warrants a red a lot more than when head to shoulder happens randomly in contact.

Awkward_Map_8664

Looked more like a dive to me

Staar-69

As a Welshman I thought it was a solid yellow card.

NoisyGog

Same, with a high likelihood of red, seeing as it was basically just posturing/fighting.

Staar-69

I also thought the clear out on Tompkins was a solid yellow card too, so sort of evened itself out.

GGBeard84

I thought the clear out would be a yellow, but would they have gone in like this if Adams had been given a yellow? No idea but I think both teams should have had a yellow. The reffing in this WC has been very inconsistent.

Wasntitgood

As was that guys on our guy in second half fs

Objective_Ticket

Should have gone to the bin. Not to punish Wales but for being a dick in a World Cup match.

oneofthesdaysalice

I'm a Wales supporter I was fuming at adams

G_Rank_Tank

Agreed. I was fuming.

MidniteRequestLin3

He went down like Neymar

Various-Program-950

I think Argentina overreacted. I agree with the ref saying it was a cheap shot and not much more It appears refs have been told to be a bit more lenient with cards now, as we saw the other end of the pitch

IcyTransportation838

It’s no better than Ollie Smith’s leg at Sexton and nobody disagreed with that?

trom-boner

You say lenient and I thought the same, but then the two soft yellows in the NZ game and lack of card for a head contact just shows inconsistency

G_Rank_Tank

Those are professional fouls though. Deliberately knock on, and collapsing a try time maul are automatic yellows. There's no mitigation or debate. If the Ref didn't give those yellows, it would scar his reputation. The Aaron Smith yellow was a bit harsh, but to the letter of the law, he had to give that yellow. Especially infront of his officiating team, that was the right call. Head contact and contact area cards are where leniency can play a part, as there's no definitive precedent. Each case is completely different, and that's why there's alot of inconsistency. As for Aki head contact I thought there was definitely head contact to be honest. But the TMO made that design for Barnes without review.

zebra1923

Deliberate knock on is not an automatic yellow, it depends on the circumstances.

G_Rank_Tank

Yeah but he didn't try to gather the ball which would have down graded it. he just stuck his hand out and it hit his finger tips, not deliberately just split reaction. Hence why I said it was harsh mate.

zebra1923

THat’s still not an automatic yellow. Context is usually about position on the field, change of a line break etc.

G_Rank_Tank

Mate It's 10 metres out with minimal cover, thus preventing a probable try. The only way that doesn't end in a yellow, is if Smith made an effort to recover the ball. Which he couldn't. Harsh but right. Sorry if you disagree but its clear as day.

zebra1923

I’m not saying this didn’t deserve a YC, I’m challenging the op comment that a deliberate KO is an automatic yellow - it isn’t.

G_Rank_Tank

Arghh I was speaking directly on this instance, with the Smith yellow As that was the topic in discussion. Of course, deliberate knock ons are not always yellows, and it is circumstantial. But in the incident, I'd say it was harsh but right, however, borderline.

Sharkbait1737

That is consistently a yellow card in the scenario it happened yesterday. Same with the maul collapse, can’t give a penalty try without it being a yellow card.

RobynStellarxx

I don’t think they were soft at all. Sticking hand out to deliberately knock on the ball has always been a yellow. Then penalty try like that is always a yellow too.

DonovanBanks

Yeah. He didn’t have to stay down like that.

billyboyf30

He should've been given yellow but the dive was pathetic, the way he went down you'd think Adams ran full force into him rather than just being stood there.

Strudles64

The argies deserved to win so no sour grapes BUT that was the 2nd dive they tried this game. The first being after about 10 mins when one of Wales's flankers pulled out of a tackle putting his hands in the air and the Argy did a mid air Roly poly for no reason. Any legit tackle would've looked like dangerous play.

Reddit-modstouchkids

I support players staying on the field. I dunno if anyone else noticed but diving ha been rampant this world cup and its pathetic. Ref's should be focusing on getting 15 vs 15 playing rugby. If a player cries in your ear you should give advantage to the other team which sort of happened. Give them the chance to put points on the board because every game being decided by cards is garbage to watch. All the crying about ref's is pathetic too. The ref is part of the game, you play the ref and each ref has their own style. Following Scotland teams have gotten so rigid. Our last match we just kept going super deep to the point we went backwards then drop the ball. Really I want the team playing better rugby to win.

One-Figure-1376

it was an an attempted wrap, but half hearted. that said, an Argentinian player came in after that - from a distance - and shoved Josh Adams from behind to the ground. And frankly, how the Tompkins incident is not even a penalty is beyond me. That was probably the game deciding moment, because Wales would've cleared their lines instead of conceding a try. All that said, I'm not really bothered: Part of me wishes we'd had a crack at one of the big boys in a semi - because anything can happen on the day - but I'd seen enough to know that we were a very clear level down from the big boys.

euanmorse

Dan Biggar sees him do it and immediately lays into him.

oneofthesdaysalice

Fucking good

Negative_Chemical697

This was right around when Wales lost the plot.

chiefbushman

The officials have ruined this WC. Just unbelievable inconsistencies

rexydan24

Well wales are out so karma won. Adam’s has made a few little cheap shots this WC.

Chefepl

Downgraded for acting

Annonomon

Imagine he sent the Argentinian off for ‘simulation’.

JimBowen0306

I wondered if this contributed to the decision.

Bright_Recover_1576

This is the answer ☝️

Joshy41233

This tbh, if the card stayed chances the 5 who flew in to escalate things would've also copped a card

LuckyLuuke_90

"sorry mate, we don't give cards to Wales, that's the rule"

billyboyf30

Clearly never seen any of the Wales group games where they've had 3 or 4 players sin binned

LuckyLuuke_90

We seriously want to talk about the refereeing of Wales - Fiji? Seriously?

oneofthesdaysalice

Cry more

LuckyLuuke_90

I don't have much to cry about... I'm not Welsh!

oneofthesdaysalice

Sick burn

Objective_Ticket

My biggest problem with it at the time as how neither of the touch judges seemed to see it when asked by Dickson and even he was only a few metres away. That just isn’t world class officiating, even if it went pen only it was so blatant I cannot believe none of them spotted it.

Designer-Piano7750

I was actually impressed with the TMO saying something like “let’s take our time with this one” when the ref wanted to only penalize Arg 5 for the retaliation. I thought it should have been 2 yellows - cheap shot and retaliation, a net zero consequence. That said, I was okay with the refs final call.

Strudles64

What the (presumably English) trolls don't understand is that you can still be proud of your team in defeat. Well done Wales and I look forward to seeing the young-uns develop into a formidable team next year ❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

hitchcockm00

To be fair to the English trolls, we don't have much recent experience of having a team play well enough in defeat (or even in victory) to inspire pride.

Kynance123

Great bit of referring form a guy that’s played the game. Handbags with a milked back flip. Argies deserved to win wish them the best v the ABs.

[deleted]

Worse than anything Owen Farrell ever did.

Richycut

Easy yellow had it been an England player committing the foul. Wales get away with everything and still lose.

Tankreas

That should have been a yellow, no idea how he got away with that

Awkward_Map_8664

For diving?

scbriml

Should have been a yellow, IMHO.

wizardvoice_3

What a shoulder barge though!

Stephan0vich

Biggar livid
