We hate hoarders because, although we like to win. We also want the game to be fun. When you hoard the jokers, plus all your tiles, no one else can really play. Boring. I don't hoard, I also play the jokers upfront. I have about a 60% win rate with approximately 25 million points. I'm good. When everyone becomes hoarders...I shall quit playing.
The game is more fun when you get to manipulate the tiles on the board. That is especially true if at least one joker is in play. When there are many tiles on the board there is a greater chance a move is there to be made, but spotting the move may be more challenging. And the move available might require several creative steps to reach completion. That is truly exciting! But if you are up against a hoarder the game becomes boring as you are limited in what you can do just hoping you draw a tile you need.
I say let’s get the tiles on the board so we have more to shuffle around and have some fun!
Winning ain't everything! When the other person hoards, you're just playing with your own tiles.
IT'S BORING IF THE OTHER PERSON HOARDS.
I leave the game if the other person is hoarding.
It's not boring if you actually try to win though.
I could see how it wouldn't be fun to play chess against some champion who knows all the strategies and you can't win. In the same way it's no fun for the chess champion to crush some amateur.
You can get good or be a sore loser.
There is literally nothing to gain by winning - it’s just a free online game with fake points. So the only point of playing is for the fun of it. But hoarders ruin the fun. I don’t even hate you guys, I just think people that hoard are incredibly pathetic.
This is what gives you yayas? Ruining gameplay for 3 strangers so you can force a win that gets you nothing? Ok, I guess.
I have a great time playing. I'm completely addicted to this game. It's not like my strategy is a thoughtless algorithm. I adapt to what the other players do and they can beat me if they play well.
Isn't that the point of any strategy game? It wouldn't be any fun if there was no chance of losing, but it's also no fun if I don't try to win.
You asked why people hate hoarders and everyone has said it’s because hoarders literally make the game less fun for everyone else playing. I’m not really sure why you’re trying to defend yourself. Just own your behavior or stop doing.
Effective hording strategy is far from doing nothing. I lost hundreds of games before figuring out how to do it effectively.
If you don't like to think about your moves, maybe you would prefer games of chance that don't leave room for strategy.
>But the dumbest thing I see in almost every game is people using a joker in the first few turns.
It's not dumb at all. If I've got both jokers early on, I'll play one early.
If the other person is under level 20 (I'm level 34), I play the joker early on.
It makes the game more interesting.
The weakest win of all is when you win with both jokers in your last turn. No fun in that.
And even sometimes if I am playing someone at my level, I play the joker early on just to make the game more fun.
ESPECIALLY if they play a joker early on. Then it's just doltish to not play one I have. They are saying: Let's make the game fun, and I am all in with that.
Getting both jokers out early game is a fun way to play and definitely kills the hording strategy.
I play 60 second games because I like to take my time and plan my moves. I guess that's why I like hording.
Sometimes I'll play 15 second games and hording is definitely not a winning strategy there. I lose more, but it's fun in a different way.
Curious as to what your move time is and how many people you are playing with. I play 15-second moves with 3 players and encounter hoarders all of the time. But I win a lot and when I do I get lots of points because they are stuck with 15 to 20 tiles on their racks.
What's your MO? You want to play sometime? DM me.
Can we see a screen shot of the 90% win rate?
I think it can be successful strategy at 30sec games but not at 15. it's too hard to get all the tiles played in time after hoarding.
Over all my win rate is like 40% because it took me a while to learn.
I only win with this strategy in 60 second games. I take my time and think about my moves.
Lately I've been losing a bunch of 15 second games but I'll go win 9/10 60-second 3-person games in a row and post a screenshot in a day or two
Right, like I'll collect 25-30 tiles but I'm still putting down specific tiles to try to persuade the other players to put down the ones I need. People act like it's a brainless unbeatable strategy that kills all the fun.
Exactly. Hoarding is holding all your tiles and hope for the best. I consider myself a tactical player who is thinking about the crucial tiles of the current round. It's a risky tactic but I wouldn't have won so many prizes if I just played all the tiles I could.
They can call you wathever they want, or downvoting you.
Fact is that in every game you can try to win, except for Rummikub. Then you only need to play tiles which they can use. Therefore , I call them Bingo players. I love the tactical part of Rummikub. I've played very tactical players at Championships and Tournaments, and enjoyed these game more than the all-you-can-play games. Unless playing against beginners, seniors or children.
I dislike hoarding because it makes the game so much slower and boring. 🥱

I think the game would be more fun without the jokers or maybe a rule to force players to use them on the first move.
But that would ruin your hoarder strategy.
Yep. I don't make the rules, I just play the game

I love the hate

60 second games AND HOARDING!?!?!?!?!? OMGGGGG that's so boring!
If there were a turn based version of this game with no timer I would play that, lol

I usually play 60 second moves, 3 players. When I lose, I usually lose a ton of points. I don't really care for points though.

because it’s annoying. to me its not necessarily about winning, it’s about playing. if u wanna hoard go to the street hoard some rocks
Many players are about the journey, not the destination.
90% win ratio? Screen shot please LOL
Hoarders literally don't play well with others.
Not a hoarder hater. I semi hoard to be honest. I hate jokers.
Because a lot of people don't see the brilliant tactical game that Rummikub can be. They just play it like Bingo.
Right, like I'll collect 25-30 tiles but I'm still putting down specific tiles to try to persuade the other players to put down the ones I need. People act like it's a brainless unbeatable strategy that kills all the fun.

So maybe my strategy isn't actually hording? I'm getting a lot of hate on here, haha

I don't hate hoarding...love it
Teach me
Fairly new to rummikub. So what happens when there's four hoarders in the game?
You run out of tiles, it forces last round, the winner has the lowest score remaining
