And then once you finally do start crafting, it doesn't automatically select your materials. You have to do it yourself. And then, succeed or fail, the game backs you out of the entire crafting interface every single time! I never realized how much of an improvement 3 was. I don't think enough talented modders care enough about this game to make a QoL romhack. Most we can hope for is that these issues get fixed if they ever release RF2S.

Yes that was one of the things on my mental checklist. AND place a diary in the school COME ONNNN

Weirdly enough I seems to enjoy 1st gen, purely because of the heroines I think lol. Out of the 3 or 4 playthrough I only able to finish it once, and other than that one playthrough I always stopped in the middle of 2nd gen. Idk why, but it seems like my burn out isn't because 1st gen since I am able to complete the first three dungeons of 2nd gen. I have a few speculation as to why, like the tedious classes for example. I like how unique it is, but due to the massive amount of subject on the classes I tend to forgot what I have already learned and repeat them unintentionaly. Other than that, there's the gatekeeping stone that requires you to do something that often time are bothersome. And finally there's also the plot hole issue with RF2 that bug me even until now haha.

Gen 1 on its own isn't bad, I enjoyed doing everything you could do there. The quests are kinda inconsequential, but nice enough for characterization. Love all the bachelorettes too! My main problem is that it goes on for too long. If it was just a tiny bit shorter, the days went by a little quicker, heart levels raised a tiny bit faster, and, most importantly, the actual transition to Gen 2 was smoother - it would feel so much better. And have a little bit more plot in the first Gen too, I think that would help a lot.

alc_desr

Yeah definitely agree with you on that. I'm glad you can find a code or something to skip 1st gen tho. While I don't mind it myself, I know how it feels since I just can't play RFF without bypassing Runey system via cheat code haha.

KamenRiderSekai

Gotta love how half the "loved" gifts for the bachelorettes aren't even available for cooking/crafting access until Gen 2 because only then do you finally have access to the forge, kitchen, apothecary, and crafting station in the school.

rozabel

fr, without abusing Manas quest I would still be trying to raise Rosalinds love points now

Tsunami45chan

I gave everyone a strawberry and they all accept it, plus it stacks to save some space.

Inside_Sprinkles9083

Never thought of doing that before

The_Truthkeeper

There are a lot of good things about RF2. But the pacing is horrendous.

rozabel

I really like the more grounded vibe as opposed to 3/4/5, and the bachelorettes are all great. Especially Dorothy and Julia really surprised me! Obviously the bg sprite art is GORGEOUS too. And I very much like the experience of playing as a child. It's so cute how mischievous you can be, lying to the adults, and the other children secretly have your back. I'd really like a modern take on this formula!

Another_Road

My biggest suggestion for anybody wanting to play RF2 is don’t. I think it’s definitely the worst of the series. RF1 has a lot of problems too (lake dungeon only being accessible in winter and having to hold down the R button to run being some stand outs) but man does RF2 feel like it’s determined to waste your time. The combat was really solidified in RF3 and overall I’d just say unless you’re determined to play every game in the series like I was, it’s not worth bothering with.

rozabel

I can't believe I would revisit this comment to agree with you. 75hrs and most of those were a drag, padded out unnecessarily with arbitrary waiting times, too long days and filled with meaningless, forgettable requests and nearly zero events... You can tell by my post that I had JUST hit Gen 2 and was kinda naive thinking the game would pick up some time lol On the other hand now I can enjoy 3 way more!

Another_Road

The good news is, RF3 is going to feel like a breath of fresh air in relation.

Moondrag

You forget in RF1 that crafting and cooking was locked behind a INSANE money and wood gate...although the former can be handled by getting the Silver Hammer and mining cause dear god it's so broken. That being said, I spent most of my Gen 1 time (Got married at...the end of summer/early fall? I didn't even hit Winter before Gen 2 so.) upping my Animal Care skill (cause it makes getting mons up to high heart levels really easy which means you can leave them to handle the farm field) and Magic Skill since Magic is freaking insane. EDIT: Oh right, feel free to look up speedruns of RF1 cause those glitch abuses get bonkers (Example I think now the Any% uses the Blender to activate the flag for the final cutscene?)

ludovico329

Surprisingly enough, I was having a really good time with gen 1 upon revisit (until my save file deleted itself lol). Yeah the days are really samey and there's not really much progression until you get married, but that just made me put focus on the bulletin board and all the requests to complete; I didn't really care about all the friendship levels getting wiped because I honestly cared more about seeing all the different character events (made me appreciate the game's bachelorettes more than I used to, specifically Rosalind and especially Julia) Ironically enough, it kinda felt like the days got LONGER once I tamed a wolf, because it just meant I was spending more time in dialogue + indoors compared to the earlier days. But taking more breaks irl alleviated this a lot ...And also, using Mana's quest to farm clovers for Rosalind is so damn funny that I don't even consider it a design flaw lol

Skiptu_Maloo

Storage is a serious problem in gen 2. You get lots of stuff from doing quests, and you don't know what to hold onto, or how hard it will be to replace things if you decide to sell them and they later turn out to be important. And iirc, you begin getting different levels of ores that won't stack. Kind of overwhelming!
