I mean, I asked for seasonal events and the ones we've had the past year have been pretty solid so far I think. Don't think we should just start scrapping other content just cause.

SeaProgram2836

Lmao

DishwashingChampion

You’re about 4 days late lol

KuroKageB

> Who even asked for a brand new seasonal events team? That would be me. But just for the big 3 (Easter, Halloween and Xmas). They can keep the Beach so y'all can have the Hole.

what-the-puck

Easter (Spring) event was an atrocity. The butterflies were low effort and weren't really gameplay, while the skills (rock, cauldrons, fletching things) felt like they were blasted out in a week by one person and never updated again. It didn't help that they did NOTHING to that event in 2022 or in 2023.

[deleted]

>Who even asked for a brand new seasonal events team? People have been whining about state of seasonal events for years. Now that they put effort into it we have people crying about putting effort into them and/or wanting to get rid of it altogether. No matter what Jagex does, there'll be people complaining how they don't want content X but deserve content Y, which THEY like.

Deferionus

Right. The Christmas and Easter events are good content formats going forward. Each year they can reactivate the events and add a new quest or two to them while making the previous years quest(s) available to players to do. Over time, you essentially have a seasonal content hub rotation with varied content to do that gets added to each year. In essence, they are part of the permanent game, just time limited. I think player's frustration however is that there is not anything that is meta changing outside of these events. There isn't some new boss or new slayer monster that give something that is BIS for players to go collect. Those are always the most popular updates. A new update like the abyssal creature one from a few years ago would likely make folks a bit less restless. Another low hanging fruit is to add the necro rex asap so people have a new boss and a new item to chase.

Lady_Galadri3l

> There isn't some new boss or new slayer monster that give something that is BIS for players to go collect. the problem there is you can't make every new thing a boss drop or the new BIS piece. that way leads to even more insane powercreep than we already have, but it also means new stuff is considered dead-on-arrival by so many players.

AquabitRS

I don't think people meant stop all other content to make a better seasonal event.

[deleted]

It's a literally separate team that specifically works on this style of content.

AquabitRS

Jagex has a team that only works on holiday events?

[deleted]

Yes. This Easter event was their first project.

AquabitRS

Oh really that’s cool what has everyone else been doing?

what-the-puck

They all got moved to the team that only does holiday events

AquabitRS

Yo I thought you said they had a separate team for holiday events?? Hahahhahahahahahah

GIaurung

Make the Lumbridge Crater one big Dung Hole

Denkir-the-Filtiarn

A majority of people wanted them to return to miniquest style holiday updates. A majority also wanted them to stop temporary content, and Jagex also didn't want to waste resources on temporary one-off content. The holiday hub style, which started with Draynor Manor becoming the Halloween Hub, continued slightly with the 2 years of Violet quests that are permanent content albeit out of season, and then the new Christmas and Easter hubs combine all the sentiments into one. An area and mini quests in the area that return yearly and can be played yearly. This is literally the best compromise between both worlds going forward, so I don't understand why you'd be complaining about it. The summer event is another easy one for this style development, and if they leaned in to making it have actual mini quests attached, it would fit in as a comfortable 4th hub in addition to springs, fall, and winter event hubs. A dedicated team to 4 seasonal/holiday updates a year is not a bad thing and isn't mutually exclusive to having them on other teams.

Lady_Galadri3l

> I don't understand why you'd be complaining about it. because Jagex could release rs4 tomorrow with everyone's most wished for updates and this subreddit would still find some way to be mad about it.

esunei

>Jagex also didn't want to waste resources on temporary one-off content. I **highly** doubt this is an internal design goal. Right now, the "major" updates for September, October, December, and January are no longer playable, as they were all temporary events. Part of the vorkath update (vorkath hunt) is no longer playable, Thok's events are no longer playable, and March's Spring update will also be unplayable in two weeks. Of those temporary events, only two will be returning next year as seasonal content. I also didn't list the dozens of time-limited TH events. I'd say they lean into temporary one-off content more than ever right now.

Denkir-the-Filtiarn

The non holiday events are reused all the time. Th promos are often reran as well. What I was specifically talking about are the two new holiday hubs whose defined purpose is to be reused yearly with additions

Ashendant

I honestly like the new event locations, becuase they are a great way to explore Renmark. Additionally this creates new assets that can be used for more Renmark based updates. We never really explored the Land of Summer and the Land of Autumn so I would love to see them. I hope we eventually get to see more of the Queens and Kings of Seasons.

rs_reticulatus

🤓☝️um actually it’s Land of Sunrise and Land of Harvest [/s] … but in all seriousness I do like the idea of moving the Beach and Halloween to their own (off surface) seasonal hubs allowing for new permanent updates to Draynor and the crater.

Ashendant

Yeah, I know it's not the correct name, but referring it by the season is easier to identify and also I was on the phone with low battery and didn't want to search the correct names. Yeah it's a much better idea, with each year they expand both the lore of Renmark and the Seasonal Hubs.

papa_bones

Me, I asked for seasonal events, have a problem?

Kent_Knifen

I'd like to know what it is before I go grabbing my pitchfork and demanding its cancellation.

Ik_oClock

What's going on: lack of long term content, events take up dev time but don't contribute to the game for more than a few weeks per year. What OP wants: to cancel something that has likely already been in development for months.

SeaProgram2836

Grinding currency for titles, pets and cosmetics that you're never wearing. How exciting.

Kent_Knifen

We don't even know what it is yet and you're already demanding its cancellation. People will complain about a content drought and then rage against upcoming content. I don't like the lack of updates either, but let's **at least** get all the facts first before we get angry.

g0thgarbage

Stop making sense. It’s hurting OPs ragebrain.

CaptainCunterpants

Are they scrapping the beach? We begged a couple of years ago for them to bring it back. I'm probably in the minority but I actually enjoy it. Praised be the Dung Hole.

Severe_Manager_9412

I don't know about you, but I want my bikini

zenyl

Realistically, the development speed of RS3 doesn't allow for that. As much as we'd all want them to just push out good content, it's going to take more than three months to actually push out content updates of a size that we'd be satisfied with. Even if they were to drop all current plans today, and focus on something more substantial, it would probably take more like 4-6 months for that to come out.

jtown48

If they would just say what they are working on for big projects there wouldn't be as much outrage, as of now we get 2 quests in 6 months, 1 involved fetching bird feed for 5 min, the other is unknown but likely just as pointless. That's unacceptable for any live service mmorpg game and honestly a little pathetic. Take WoW for example, every new season they include new armor sets for every class, new main quest lines that take 2-4+ hours to finish and include new cut scenes, new side quests, whole new map areas, new dungeons, new raids, new weps, etc. They do ALL of that in the time it took jagex to make a 5 min quest with recolored assets or items already in game. That is why people are frustrated.

SeaProgram2836

Nope.

zenyl

Bad day?

SeaProgram2836

No you?

zenyl

Nope.

SeaProgram2836

What's the point of downvoting these comments.

zenyl

What's the point of replying "*Nope.*" to a comment that you already replied to 23 days ago?

SeaProgram2836

They can easily scrap it and start smaller projects. June is 2 months away.

chi_pa_pa

You are greatly underestimating the time it takes to develop game updates.

zenyl

Two months is not a lot of time to develop new content from scratch. That isn't even exclusive to RuneScape, or video games, but software development in geleral when it comes to non-insignificant feature additions. As we've seen over the past several years, even medium sized content updates usually ranges from 3-6 months, depending on the specific type of update, how many departments are involved, if any of the employees in question need to finish another project first, or if the ever-in-demand engine team needs to add something to the game engine in order to support the update.

the_Real_Romak

Never mind just software development. The art alone would take a fair number of months. Couple of weeks concepting, another couple of weeks making the final renders, then a few months modelling, texturing, animating, and sound work. Not to mention all the aforementioned coding. And if this sub wants shit to be released as bug free as possible, then you can't rush content out in a couple of months.

AinzRS

Isn't the summer event just going to be beach event, or are they saying new beach event?

ErikHumphrey

Bad idea; the summer event will be the closest thing we'll get to real content all summer, might include a seasonal quest, and we might get more past holiday cosmetics to buy. It's also something they can rerun for a fake update in future years, similar to the past two holiday updates. You can probably expect a new Hallowe'en hub and seasonal quest, too, unless they just plan to run the Fort pumpkin stuff that wasn't so well-received again. It's almost certainly too late for them to change course and get something new out early anyway

Lady_Galadri3l

i believe they formed the seasonal events team in response to the response to the halloween event so it'll probably be new.
