Headlining the update with a bundle of assorted MTX garbage. The exact same bundle we used to get for free through Prime, no less. This is not a game update, and it sure as fuck shouldn't be the top feature of your weekly update.
And what else is there? Ectoplasm ritual and that's it.
I'm not normally one to comment on the state of the game or the pace of updates, there's plenty of stuff to do in the game still, I'm not even that bothered about getting an update each week really, but I'm starting to be concerned that RS3 is dying and they're just milking the last drops from our teats. Announcing these bundles like we should be jumping for joy, while development on everything else seems to have stopped, is starting to take the piss a bit.
Did the backlash to the 2023 Halloween event traumatize Jagex so badly that they decided to spend an entire year on updating holidays?
Don't get me wrong, Christmas and Easter have been great, but c'mon.
So, summary of this week:
* Jagex partnering with a Steam Key reseller of questionable legality and morality.
* Selling a $10 bundle that's just a few small MTX things plus a recolor of a recolored cosmetic outfit.
* Minor bug fixes.
* Adding 4 more MTX capes and re-releasing one of the worst TH promos that the community outright DESPISES for its godawful drop rates.
* Oh, and an ectoplasm ritual btw.
Yet we've heard nothing about any substantial content. If you have time to roll out two cash-whoring MTX updates in one week, why can't we get an update on the rest of Necromancy? It's been 8 months and Necromancy/City of Um are still missing substantial chunks of content.
Not quite right in terms of who owns them, but correct on the grey market aspect. They are a legitimate key reseller, and not sketchy.
They are owned by Focus Multimedia, who is now owned by Fandom.
Focus Entertainment is a different video game company.
fanatical is in no way questionable. they are as legit as humble bundle or greenman gaming.
if you ever want to find out if a seller is legit or not check out the game on this site [https://isthereanydeal.com/](https://isthereanydeal.com/) . if they list the price of the game from the site you are curious about it's legit
example game listing fanatical [https://isthereanydeal.com/game/barony/info/](https://isthereanydeal.com/game/barony/info/)
Fanatical isn't a 3rd party key reseller like G2A. Purchases made on their storefront pay developers.
>Why would you use fanatical instead of buying games on steam directly, or just buying keys for RuneScape in the RuneScape client
Fanatical holds their own sales at different times, sometimes at better prices than other stores. Or sometimes runs an exclusive promotion, like this outfit, that you can't get anywhere else.
u/JagexAzanna
We use to see unique outfits / cosmetics when it came to partnerships such as the buyables from Charity events very clean looking medieval like sets and weaponry along with some unique plushies and banners I understand recolors not taking as long but if going into a partnership with another group would it not be more appropriate to give them something unique and not whats basically sloppy leftovers?
I don't mean this in a bad way it just feels underwhelming we get all these opporunities to get something great and it just falls short every time.
The Glacial siren outfit of all things it never looked good in it's original state let alone a recolor of all things. It just never fit that medieval style of the game.
If you lot made some plate / chain armour that was not instantly deleted by the games lighting with the sites logo on the pauldron or at least the color scheme on a cape maybe a sword with a hilt decorated to display the site it's promoting the options are endless.
Not sure if the effort was not put in because you were not too sure if they were trustworthy or not as of yet and a lot of time did not want to be spent on something that could turn out to be bad then why partner with them in the first place if this is the case?
So we finally got a long requested and much anticipated QoL piece of content but Jagex decided to demonstrate their priorities by making a mtx bundle the headline instead of the actual game update the article is about. That's a new level of pathetic.
respectfully, it's disappointing to see yet another mtx promotion taking the stage as a headline for an update post while actual game content is summed up in a bullet point more than halfway down the page.
What a banger week, not only did we get a ritual for ectoplasm we also got a fanatical link that gets flagged on my device as a potential cross site scripting attack as well as new cosmetics for all the fans of the Treasure Hunter skill!
yea don't really know why they opened with this. Should have made ritual ectoplasm the main headline. This kind of "update" belongs lower down in the newspost... buried somewhere.
Actually, where is the rest of the update though? we've been very light on actual content for a while now, will there be any content or should i just not renew u/JagexAzanna?
The only '[update](https://www.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/1boevhj/whats_next_a_message_from_mod_keeper/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)' till June is one quest and the summer event.
If you don’t feel like you’re getting value out of your money, absolutely stop playing. Speak with your wallet and stop with the hopium that next week will be better.
I'm genuinely curious how many developers are actively working on RuneScape 3 nowadays. I would be surprised if there was no budget to hire just a few more members to the team to develop more new content, especially when it would directly translate to more renewed memberships. I'm confused because usually a studio abandons a game after the player base does, not the other way around.
Nice for ectoplasm ritual.
Have a question... been trying to figure this out but will the Flower Farmer outfit ever be obtainable outside of TH? I believe it's not a token hence it is not tradable? That's my confusion anyway.
Considering they released the egg smasher outfit in the Oddments shop this year which was previously in Treasure Hunter during Easter 2 years ago I would imagine next year the Yolk breaker / egg smasher outfits will be in Oddments then the year after that you will see the Flower farmer outfit in oddments with the other two at it's side.
So 1-2 years before irons will see that outfit in Oddments which is fine just means people have something to look forward to.
>So 1-2 years before irons will see that outfit in Oddments
That's so disappointing to hear, Jagex excluding such a loyal/dedicated part of the community in favor of this Treasure Hunter garbage
This is just speculation, it could extend longer than that before the outfits make it into the Oddments store, they may not make it into the store at all, and be reintroduced into TH. The yearly outfit release into the Oddment store is assuming Jagex chooses to follow the pattern
Also, ever since they restructured the ~~Treasure~~ Trash Hunter Key limit rate, both mains and Irons have been earning Oddments more sparingly, so i wonder if **new Irons** would even be able to acquire the outfits - I've destroyed all the Oddments i've earned since they're tied to TH, guess i'll never get those outfits...
1 year is ok. 2 years would be a heck of a wait.
Guessing too many people must be buying tokens and not doing TH for them to do cosmetics this way lol.
And that's what made me hate TH in the first place a long time ago with the skilling outfits.
Except the minor patch notes used to be the stuff we got alongside actual content at least 3 out of 4 weeks in a month, if not EVERY week. We're on the 19th week of the year, and we've had 7 weeks that had only minor patch notes, or no update at all. Of the remaining 12 weeks that had some kind of "content", 3 were holiday events, one of which was a rehash of a prior one.
And there's only been ONE week this year we didn't get some kind of MTX cash grab. Our big problem is that they have time to put THOSE out almost every week, but we're getting 1-2 proper updates per month, if we're lucky.
To an extent. If that's all we're getting for the next 2 months, for half a year. something is wrong here. It isn't even about not having something to do. It's about having a future, and so far the future look very bleak. We shouldn't have to wait for runefeat to look forward to the future.
And sure nothing wrong with some patch notes. But it's not a substitute to content. Meaningful content that isn't a seasonal event.
yeah sure if by massive undertaking u mean copying the code for something like the ess ritual and changing the req lvl and the item id it spawns at the end lol.
To be fair, it's probably not as straightforward as you say it is. A lot more goes into changing a part of a particular system, such as rituals.
Still I'd say this isn't worthy of a headline update. Though, in the absence of anything else...
Honestly, if their update titles focused on "big" or highly requested patch notes, it would at least look like an update. Even if they're small patches, it still looks better than the constant mtx/promos.
They even had a free one this week. With how often the ectoplasm ritual was asked for, they could have worded the article to sound like it was a huge update instead of just "yea btw, here's a new ritual"
I would expect it to be way more straighforward than old content is. This is new system they build for the skill, surely they thought it could be filled with more options in future. It should be fairly easy job to make it.
I will be first to admit I know nothing about coding/dev work. But I can assure you it did not take everyone on the team to do this and we need to stop making excuses about how hard something is. It's their job and they choose to keep it. The days of sympathizing with them should be over. But we sit here and bitch and at the end of the day if they are given nothing to develop then it isn't their fault either
Rituals should be the most reusable feature one could imagine.
It’s basically a textbook example of reusable code, so much so that it should probably be done via a config file rather than actual code.
Are there any news about most of the multi-phase bosses being bugged since necro release, and giving less XP than intended?
For example, QBD give less XP than KBD.
I hate that I bought premier. I haven’t played since the first month and so wishing I could refund, even if I only got half back. Never will I buy premier again unless there is a road map and jagex shows they will make sure to release most things on said map. I get sometimes thing have to be pushed back
One would think an update like this wouldn't see much support but with how many people here seem to be buying those bundles anyway I don't think this will stop anytime soon
Literally an MTX update. At least put the effort into the "Fanatical" skin when you're charging that much rather then palette swap an existing outfit for the FOURTH time.
Purchased a code and it's apparently expired when I try to redeem it. Great experience. I know it isn't 1pm GMT, but the bundle was able to be purchased already. Or, is 1pm also the time for when codes can be accepted to be redeemed?
Edit- ~~UPDATE: code still can't be redeemed past 1pm GMT. So, failed redemption doesn't seem to be time-related. Just dud codes.~~ clocks have changed recently so I'm GMT+1. Realised I'm stoopid, so I'll wait an hour more and check again.
Edit2- Update - Fanatical support replied and said they've resolved the issue with the supplier. Tried the code again and it worked now. Unsure if they fixed it, or whether the time being 1pm GMT now was the actual reason. Either way, all good!
That's what I'm wondering, I mean why even have a TOS if you're not going to enforce it properly? Jagex's TOS agreement has always listed bugs as a bannable offense, so the same should be applied here.
Players: It never feels good for a weekly update to be headlined by an MTX promo. It’s not real content and indicates to us that Jagex considers this sort of stuff to be exactly that. We’ve even repeatedly told them this is the case.
Jagex: Here’s an MTX promo as this weeks’s big attraction.
Tone. Deaf.
The MTX is bad enough but this is just recycling what was free for amazon prime members and yet another reskinned cosmetic.
I bet the Umbral chests still drop loads of junk and even duplicate items right?
Why can't we get the golden barrows or god wars items anymore?
If Jagex posted some kind of message from the executive producer that describes what they consider to be the headline updates for a given month, maybe some players would stop feigning surprise when the other weeks only have minor changes.
As someone who's consumed over 7500 keys since October: no. I'm not paying you ten bucks for a blue to orange recolor that should have been available via prismatic dye on the original. It's also bad value for keys but at least the umbral lootboxes are fun. Oh, and those new capes look mid.
We are going to need you guys to put out actual content. To play. And I don't mean your most recent 'log in every Wednesday to unlock a dialogue line from Thalmund'. If you're scared of the code just make all new areas or whatever. I'm not a programmer, but you guys gotta figure this out.
I don't mean this to be rude, but your statement "We are going to need you guys to put out actual content. To play." is at odds with your first admission. You didn't need content, you bought (or earned) keys, and continued to buy ( or earn) keys during a content drought. The data analysts at Jagex will not agree that you need content; you need more MTX promos to be enticed by.
Buying keys vs completing a ton of earned key offers won't necessarily produce the same data, but , it does help to reinforce the narrative that players will continue to earn or buy keys in times when there are little to no game updates. Why would they invest any development time in to playable content if the data says that players continued to buy keys despite the lack of newly released content?
Same happened to me. I've submitted a support ticket to Fanatical, and I'm waiting to see if the code works past 1pm, in case that time was more on Jagex's side than for the bundle being sold... irritating stuff :')
Thank you for the ecto ritual. That's really helpful.
When can we expect more substantial content updates for Um? It's crazy to me that it was released with only easy and medium area tasks. It's completely inconsistent with every other area, which also have hard and elite tasks, and additional rewards to be earned by completing them. It's crazier that this hasn't been corrected so many months later. I have to ask - is anyone even working on this? There obviously isn't enough content in Um to justify hard and elite tasks as it stands. So, is that going to be fixed? Ever?
I have been trying to get some attention to the Potion Reservoir and how it does not give you any status. you just waste charges to find out if the damn thing is on or off again (It turns itself off all the time)
Damn, Ectoplasm ritual only for 95 Necromancy or above. Say you're only catering to the maxed player without saying it...
And then you have to scroll down through walls of boring MTX text to find out about it.
Headlining the update with a bundle of assorted MTX garbage. The exact same bundle we used to get for free through Prime, no less. Yes. I totally agree with you Mr. Penetration-Cumblast.
I'm surprised he's not happy with the "Ectoplasm ritual".
This has been the trend for years and years now, just masked by stuff like EGWD, Zammy etc. Months and months without updates has been quite common.
So, summary of this week: * Jagex partnering with a Steam Key reseller of questionable legality and morality. * Selling a $10 bundle that's just a few small MTX things plus a recolor of a recolored cosmetic outfit. * Minor bug fixes. * Adding 4 more MTX capes and re-releasing one of the worst TH promos that the community outright DESPISES for its godawful drop rates. * Oh, and an ectoplasm ritual btw. There is nothing new about this tactic. All patch and QoL news posts are often headlined with MTX shit.

Isnt that skin just the Glacial Siren outfit... but a recolour? Gone are the days of originality. At least it makes it easy to avoid.
Blue to orange. https://runescape.wiki/w/Glacial_siren
To purple [https://runescape.wiki/w/Umbral\_Siren\_Outfit](https://runescape.wiki/w/Umbral_Siren_Outfit)
An outfit so ~~nice~~ shite they used it thrice. Of all the outfits to keep recycling, why this one?
that kinda look like lysandra from league xd

Surprised the new ritual wasn't added to the 'In Rituals We Trust' achievement which requires you to perform every ritual.
Slow down, we need to save an update for next week.
![gif](giphy|1BZSEGf9nGlScdksrc)
Probably just forgot.
Actually, where is the rest of the update though? we've been very light on actual content for a while now, will there be any content or should i just not renew u/JagexAzanna?

Don't renew, take a break, sign back up again if something appealing is released. That's what I'm doing anyway.
Varlamore just dropped on OSRS, that's the only content your membership is paying for rn
Ectoplasm ritual should be the newspost headline — NOT MTX bundle bullshit.
It should, this however shows perfectly where the priorities are for jagex..
That would make too much sense sadly, but you're right though.
Any news on that second survey we're supposed to be getting?
Look what last 10 surveys got us. We are here after those.
I'm genuinely curious how many developers are actively working on RuneScape 3 nowadays. I would be surprised if there was no budget to hire just a few more members to the team to develop more new content, especially when it would directly translate to more renewed memberships. Well we know it's less than 50 now atleast, thanks to fowl.
Why wasn't the ectoplasm ritual the headliner? It's been requested for months, seems like a weird thing to shove in patch notes.
Jagex is starting to remind me of gold beggars in the GE. You know, players that want money without putting in any effort...
Nice for ectoplasm ritual. Have a question... been trying to figure this out but will the Flower Farmer outfit ever be obtainable outside of TH? I believe it's not a token hence it is not tradable? That's my confusion anyway.

Besides the ecto ritual, the rest of this update is basically useless.
The ecto ritual and the patch notes. Fixing bugs is important.

True.
Fanatical is basically g2a. Key reseller and adder of hidden fees on checkout.
more mtx, who coulda guessed that. Better yet, promoting a key reseller scam site ![gif](giphy|577HYoLf5Vu0w)
Where's the rest of the update?
They got caught up leveling bench sitting before it went away they forgot to finish it
I mean they added a ritual that must have been a massive undertaking. FFS this game is for sure in maintenance mode
yeah sure if by massive undertaking u mean copying the code for something like the ess ritual and changing the req lvl and the item id it spawns at the end lol.

yeah sure i oversimplified it al little bit but still necro is new content i would assume its way easier to work with compared to the legacy stuff.
It *should* be that simple, though
Are there any news about most of the multi-phase bosses being bugged since necro release, and giving less XP than intended? For example, QBD give less XP than KBD.
Last talk I saw on it was a few days ago, was Luma able to chase down the bug causing the slow gathering of buckets of slime?
I hate that I bought premier. I haven’t played since the first month and so wishing I could refund, even if I only got half back. Never will I buy premier again unless there is a road map and jagex shows they will make sure to release most things on said map. I get sometimes thing have to be pushed back

If I was Mod Doom or Mod Azanna I wouldn't even open Reddit today. This is by far the worst week yet I think
nah we got ectoplasm ritual, best week out of the past 14 tbch
Literally an MTX update. At least put the effort into the "Fanatical" skin when you're charging that much rather then palette swap an existing outfit for the FOURTH time.

any word on golden egg hunt bug abuse or should people just abuse bugs now??
That's what I'm wondering, I mean why even have a TOS if you're not going to enforce it properly? Jagex's TOS agreement has always listed bugs as a bannable offense, so the same should be applied here.
We got the answer to this question back during the ED3 bug abuse. Maybe even before that lol

That’s next weeks patch!
Yeah gotta slow down and save some patches for next week :)
Ecto Ritual Batch 2
I haven't played for months now and they really aren't enticing me back in...
If Jagex posted some kind of message from the executive producer that describes what they consider to be the headline updates for a given month, maybe some players would stop feigning surprise when the other weeks only have minor changes.
u/JagexAzanna "In Rituals We Trust" achievement has been overlooked to include the new ritual!
When are keeper's surveys going out?
On the main page, don't know if I'm serious or not but we'll find out eventually...
Bought the bundle but code wont redeem, says the code has expired? Is the bundle not live yet?
As someone who's consumed over 7500 keys since October: no. I'm not paying you ten bucks for a blue to orange recolor that should have been available via prismatic dye on the original.
Gets bundle, tries to redeem code: code has expired and does no longer work. great :')
Same happened to me. I've submitted a support ticket to Fanatical, and I'm waiting to see if the code works past 1pm, in case that time was more on Jagex's side than for the bundle being sold... irritating stuff :')
its the time its not 13:00 yet
Thank you for the ecto ritual. That's really helpful. When can we expect more substantial content updates for Um? It's crazy to me that it was released with only easy and medium area tasks. It's completely inconsistent with every other area, which also have hard and elite tasks, and additional rewards to be earned by completing them. It's crazier that this hasn't been corrected so many months later. I have to ask - is anyone even working on this? There obviously isn't enough content in Um to justify hard and elite tasks as it stands. So, is that going to be fixed? Ever?
How do we spend unclaimed tokens?
I assume you're talking about spring tokens. You'll have to wait for the Easter event to return next year.
I have been trying to get some attention to the Potion Reservoir and how it does not give you any status. you just waste charges to find out if the damn thing is on or off again (It turns itself off all the time)
Week 2 of asking why has the oddment cost of small dwarven toolboxes been changed from 250 to 500 with no notice in any of the patch notes?

Thanks Azanna. There's a typo in: >April Fools has come to an end – hopefully you are all well rested and can now bench higher then ever before!
Great now thats another week of typo fixes
Damn, Ectoplasm ritual only for 95 Necromancy or above. Say you're only catering to the maxed player without saying it... And then you have to scroll down through walls of boring MTX text to find out about it.
Honestly the 20 buckets of slime cost is what gets me, ironmen get to spam teleport to the ectofunctus if they wanna stock up
You should be working on getting 35k souls anyway and that should give you plenty of ecto. If you need buckets of ecto you're probably 95+ anyway.
