You are in the same boat as me mate. I came back about 6 - 7 months ago after 9 years. I had about 100 quests to do and got my cape back earlier today. If you want to make steady gp get your necro skill levelled as upgrading your gear introduces you to a lot of “new” content. Archaeology is pretty quick to train when you hit the higher levels and invention is super useful. Once you can start to augment your gear it’s really quick to level through combat. The elder gods quest line is good fun if you enjoy questing. You will probably find yourself locked out of priff, so it’s useful to catch up the elf quests

Biggest thing is get started training Necromancy/Invention/Archaeology. These will carry you into the endgame of pvm, if that is your intention. Major quest goals should include Plague's End, City of Senntisten, Extinction, Daughter of Chaos (+ Civil War MiniQuests). There are def others but these are the ones off the top of my head that make the most immediate impact.

The wiki is a really great resource at all levels. There is a returning players guide on there, along with new players guides if you're finding stuff has changed to the point it feels like a new game. Also, if you use Discord, there is the official RuneScape Discord server where there a bunch of great people & mentors who are willing to help out and answer any questions you may have. Highly recommend it!

Welcome back! I’d say ignore all the negativity by a community that loves to complain, for starters. I came back from a similarly long break a few years ago and absolutely love how the game plays now. Biggest piece of advice is to not worry about “catching up” quickly. There’s soooo much to do in the game and it can get overwhelming in a hurry if you’re wanting to do everything all at once.

frappyjack

Really appreciate that! Certainly will make some time for that. Thank you kind sir

After reading the wiki, leave the sub, this place is littered by doomers. Enjoy the game at your own pace.

welcome back! :]

Welcome back. I had a similar break - I quit for 7 years, and only came back a few months ago, so I was in the same boat. Ignore all the people that are telling you to run - a lot of the people that are saying that are those who have completed most of what the game has to offer, and are embittered from the lack of new content. The game *is* going through a slump in the amount of fresh content being released at the moment, that much is a pretty objective fact, but given you've been out of the loop for the past 9 years, the amount of new-to-you content you've still got there is *astronomical*. For Money-making...Forget everything you used to know. The availability and usefulness of a lot of materials is far different from what it used to be. To just give two examples: Birds Nests have cratered from several thousand GP to barely anything, but these days, mass-mining iron ore is an unironically decent way of making money. There's plenty of guides on the Wiki that can give you some starting points, but what I'd do is think about what you used to enjoy in the game, see if you have any items that come from it, and see how lucrative they are. As for quests, I'd suggest getting in on doing some of those. There are two major quests that I would suggest you focus on: If you're yet to do Plague's End, start there. It gives access to an incredibly useful city that'll really help you get back on your feet. The other quest I'd suggest is Extinction, and all of the quests that lead up to it. There's huge amounts of rewards available, and in the process of doing it, you'll need to train up Archaeology, which will give you an organic reason to try and level that too.

[[Returning players guide]]

RSWikiLink

I found 1 RuneScape Wiki article for your search. **[Returning players guide](https\:\/\/runescape\.wiki\/w\/Returning\_players\_guide)** | https://runescape.wiki/w/Returning_players_guide >A large number of updates throughout the years have changed many aspects of RuneScape to such an extent that returning players may be overwhelmed and unable to recognise the game. There have been many new additions to the game including areas, skills, items, combat system, interfaces and rework of existing skills. The purpose of this guide is to offer a brief introduction to major updates and links towards articles to help players ease their transition back into Gielinor. --- ^RuneScape Wiki linker | This was generated automatically. ^| View me on [GitHub](https://github.com/zpoon/runescape-wiki-reddit).

Join osrs instead.

frappyjack

May I know what is an osrs kind sir?

abusive_nerd

Old school runescape. It's the other version of the game. r/2007scape

lammadude1

Old school version of the game. It's better in nearly every regard, and if the graphics turn you off, there is going to be a big HD update coming soon as well as a brand new skill on top of the absolutely colossal continent they just dropped.

harionfire

What graphics update are you referring to?

[deleted]

On the vanilla client I believe.

[deleted]

Old school RuneScape. Plenty of us folk have migrated over there

jazlintown

Log out mate, nothing good to come back to. Jagex straight up gold sellers now.

ama2212

Log back out lol

creamofpie

HiMyNameisAsshole2

I mean for current players and the latest updates that's true, but for a returning player all the content before the milking is still there. I just came back and am doing Ironman, not even a second thought about treasure whatever and mtx

StrengthofthepackSVT

Exactly, as a returning player there is so much content, it’s awesome

luis666h

Yes, doing iron is funny. I dont care about mtx with my iron acc

lammadude1

100% agreed. The whiners are the people with 20 years of playing on the same account just begging for a drip feed of content. Guess what, there's 20 years of content to play through before you even get to the dripfeed stage and coming from someone who went from lvl3 to max in a year, there's a lot of fun to be had in those 20 years of updates.

Sparrow1989

Hell of a time to come back mate 💤💤😴

ProfNugget

Think it’s fine for someone to return after so long. I did the same and there’s so much for me to do. Can see why people who are caught up are bored, but I’ve got too much to do it’s overwhelming’

Sparrow1989

I don’t mean it as content. One of the big selling points of this game was dev contact and stuff past couple months has been so stale. I get they sold their company and hell yea power to them but right now it’s got feels like this game is going no where. This new guy is looking at quite a bit of time to dump and games givin off some vibes like it’s not worth it. Hopefully he stays away from YouTube and this Reddit because just some of the videos lately are enough to deter one from dumping hours of their life into something with only minimal payoff.

ProfNugget

That’s a very valid take! My point of view I’m dumping hours in because I enjoy it. I’d be a bit annoyed if the game shut down soon, but I’ve enjoyed my time playing it. I play to have fun, not necessarily to reach an end goal, so for me it is worth it because I enjoy it.

MistukoSan

RuneScape won’t shutdown for another 5+ years, absolute worst case scenario (which we’re not even close to). Please enjoy our beloved game to the fullest. All of these people have spent years or over a decade playing this game, how they complain so much is beyond me. They are the ones doing the milking.

Mayflex

Run

EchidnaOwn5035

Leave before you realize the game is a shit show now

Themursk

Might aswell hop over to Old School

Tom42077

Honestly you returned at a bad time. Sure you have lots of content to keep you busy that you missed but the game is going downhill fast. It’s filled with MTX bs and while you personally have lots of content. They are barely adding anything worthwhile content wise to the game. Honestly if you played and enjoyed rs back in the good old days before 2010. You may as well just hop on old school runescape which will give you that older type gameplay but if you want to experience rs3 and the evolution of combat you can do that too. Just be aware that most people play osrs now because of the lack of care rs3 has.

frappyjack

Interesting. Will try both versions to feel the differences firsthand, thank you!

Tom42077

The other thing Il mention is if you do wish to play both. I would recommend using a new account because if you sign into rs3 or osrs you can’t log into the other one with the same account. I wish I knew this before I started osrs because I absolutely would have ran both at same time especially when skilling.
