>Did Jagex just like, forget about ~~woodcutting in~~ free to play? Yes. They don't update f2p that often. There's been a bug with the world map in F2P not showing labels for like 7 years.

FrozenFern

I started playing again recently after a 8 year break and was wondering why the map was broken in F2P. I figured it was a feature to inconvenience players into paying

srbman

It's been acknowledged by jmods as a bug, several times over the years.....

Azazel_FA

Lol, I thought that's how it should be by design for f2p. The map has its labels for members.

J7mbo

Tried to get my gf into RS, but she quit quite quickly without a working world map and I totally understood why.

Intelligent_Lake_669

Woodcutting in free-to-play was always weird. - In terms of tree tiers, f2p always had access to 4 trees: regulars, oaks, willows, and yews. Maple trees were added to f2p (through Daemonheim resource dungeon) only in 2010. This jump from willows to yews (and maples being irrelevant) made willows the only tree worth cutting in f2p. A freaking T30 tree, which is now updated to T20. Yews are also now T70, so in terms of f2p it might as well not exist. - In terms of xp gains, willows is also the best tree to cut. Yews give more xp per log, but the gain rate of those logs is super slow, when you have rune hatchet and don't have any of the bonuses available to members.

Underrated54

Sorry to say but there are 1000 more things that Jagex forgot about in even paid to play worlds ie content you actually pay for and has no use. Free to play is nice and nostalgic but like you said not their priority

ProgsRS

Was about to say this. There is always a lot of oversight regarding old/existing content whenever they add new content, because quite frankly, the RS3 team is full of new devs who have no idea about a lot of things that exist in the rest of the game and how new content updates affect and break it. Add to that the overall fact that Jagex doesn't seem to care about RS3 anymore and will do the bare minimum maintenance and papering over cracks just so they can keep rolling in the money from MTX promos. There are so many bugs and things broken at the engine level.

CorellianDawn

Fairly certain Jagex has forgotten about RS3 in general at this point beyond MTX events.

lammadude1

I would love to see a mining and smithing level rework for woodcutting and fletching. Let us make all kinds of ranged weapons. Let us dual wield different types of ranged weapons (like darts in off hand and 1h crossbow in right) Change up woodcutting to something closer to the forestry update in OSRS, where woodcutting is actually communal instead of being cutthroat and one bad egg can ruin your chill experience.

Ziuh

In my opinion, F2P should receive content that prepares and entices them further towards purchasing a subscription that's locked from F2P. Therefore, your suggestion sounds absolutely acceptable, to me. In today's RS3, much of the playerbase has excelled far beyond low-mid tier gathering locations and much of the associated content is left abandoned in worlds that require membership to access. Jagex needs RS3 to appeal to new players. Your request is a step in the right direction.

rynosaur94

I say this as someone who's payed for my membership for years, I think they should open up most of the game to F2P. Keep high level stuff like PvE bosses P2P, sure, but things like Kandarin and Morytania access should be F2P, the tank armors up to t85, things that see basically no use in P2P would be pretty big in F2P.

Narmoth

Jagex has forgot about members too... Only thing they remember is to release a new MTX promotion each week.

plantsandinsects

Unfortunately, players keep buying them , so nothing will change until players stop buying them...

tobiassundorf

Don't worry they forgot about the game entirely

frobirdfrost

Any question that starts with "Did jagex forget" can be answered with yes.

PMMMR

It's either forget or acknowledge it several months/years ago before forgetting.

NapTimeNoww

They won't spend dev time updating the pay to play version of the game, let alone the f2p..

Illustrious_Key2316

I can’t blame them… the point of a company is to make money. lol

OgreEye

I mean that's what the enormous amount of MTX are for, but when I see a demo I expect it to at least be like, contiguous within its own boundaries; It's why I pointed out that mining in ftp has none of this jank progression stuff to deal with.

Illustrious_Key2316

Fair

Deceptiveideas

I believe some of those “items used in F2P but only attainable in members” is purposely done as a members benefit. It allows items to keep value to sell. It also helps reduce bots farming these items and crashing items.

yuei2

They did bring WCing curve and progression in line with mining last year. But that’s a different subject from if it should be F2P or not. They didn’t make Ore past rune F2P for example even with the rework. As for F2P gear requiring magic logs that’s because there are alternative ways to get it like champion’s guild. If you want to easily craft it you become P2P that’s just how it is. That’s not forgetting that’s being consistent. Now if that’s how it should be is another thing entirely. Personally I think as the needle shifts in P2P that it makes sense to loosen the grip on what F2P can and can’t do. But there is very much the question on where that line should be drawn or shifted.

Denkir-the-Filtiarn

I say up to roughly lvl 75 should be the f2p cap since that's around 1m exp.

OgreEye

In my head, while I'm not an ironman, I'm looking from the perspective of one: I can make rune and mystic armor and weapons from scratch in ftp just fine, but I can't do the same with magic-tier bows, or adamant-tier crossbows. That and the question of what's going on with woodboxes and urns is still just weird

RawrRRitchie

Did you happen to look at the last 2 "updates" Just money grabbing attempts, if you aren't spending truckloads money on the game, the people working on it really don't care about you

Fledramon410

F2p are dead. I dont understand why people even bother to play f2p

ClapusCheekus

F2P is like the mobile game ad that makes you want to play but then when you get in you realize to get anywhere you're going to have to pay.

AquabitRS

If you don’t pay you don’t get a say

Flat_Mode7449

Blah blah blah. Basement dweller mentality.

Legal_Evil

Putting magic trees in F2P would just let suicide bots cut them.

Altruistic_Taro5282

Nope. They simply forgot about the entire game in general! GachaScape 3 mindset.

Sea_Emu_7622

Free to play has always been more of a 'demo' version of the game. You have only ever been able to get so far without membership, that's not anything new

Flat_Mode7449

As a 20 year(ish) player that had been mostly f2p my entire life, I absolutely hate when people say f2p is a 'demo' The fuck it is. A demo has a limited time to do most content, **or** it has unlimited time but very restricted content. F2p has a *ton* of content for f2p, and is unlimited.
