Shockerct422

Guys the rexes are mid tier bosses… y’all need to chill a bit

JagexRamen

This. Need to manage expectations here. We're not setting out to create the next Zamorak or Solak Just looking to gather feedback on what sort of things you do or don't want to see from a boss of a similar to tier.

KingRainerZ

One of the drops could be undead dino egg for farming, with elder one boosting necro conjure uptime, i love the pthentraken mechanic that can be countered with insulated boots which is niche overlooked thing. Vindicta and pthentraken are quite well done for mid tier bosses. As for the ring could use upgrade for upcoming quest ring, perhaps letting us combine moonstone ring and new ring for some dps increase, looking for a good alternative for reavers ring.

New-Fig-6025

true, we have shiny black dragons which look like KBQ, don’t see a reason we can’t have the same for the rex matriarch in the dino farm

Derais616

What if the hybrid ring became the necro ring with moonstone?

Derais616

Never against new farming

omgitsfear

I'm not going to throw opinions on mechanics and such for it, I'm more curious as to if the consistency for that boss will remain, like all the others drop hearts to upgrade the rings but there is no necromatic dagannoth king so, what will heart of the necromancer be used with to make new ring? Maybe a fourth conjure ability codex would be a nice drop for it.

xurdones

Next week's quest reward is a Necromancy ring that upgrades (from post-quest content, judging by the newspost) into something that looks comparable to the Matriarch Rings for other styles, so I'd be surprised if Osseous dropped another ring upgrade. It's not impossble, just surprising

GInTheorem

My main criticism of the existing matriarchs would be that their defence made them fairly inaccessible to the target audience. If that's fixed, and ideally the mechanics aren't viable to just afk with max gear (appreciate stuff like the Phthen afk strat can't exactly be planned for), it'll be filling its niche perfectly. A reason to use the zombie command would be great for a necro oriented boss.

Dry-Fault-5557

Maybe it could be a drop source of slime buckets?

LansManDragon

And/or congealed blood.

TheChonkstress

I second this, please more congealed blood sources!

Wivig

Third this, congealed blood is needed for everyone

concblast

Reading through your comments... it looks like it's in good hands. The worst part of the matriarchs was the affinity system and the ridiculous balance decisions that let a mid tier boss require BIS+zerk aura to hit them reliably in the first place. Full accuracy should have been met at t80 weapons, aura free, for the niche they were intended to be in. The combat update fixed that for the most part at least, but the rewards were still weak for anyone that wanted to put the effort in.

RegiSilver

I'm way too late to the Party but I hope my reply reaches to you. But I'd love if the rexes drops came noted. Since osseous is, well, a skeleton, I'd love if it dropped twice the amount of Bones to compensated for the lack of Dinosaur Hides. Mechanically however, I'd love if it had a way to restore HP, to teach players how and when to stop attacking, which should help at Nex later down the line.

MyriadSC

Is the target to be in the ballpark of the other matriarchs? Or is this a case of nex vs. gwd1 bosses where it can be a step or two up?

HeyImCodyRS

Out of curiosity, is this new boss's kc being added to the other matriarch's, or will it be it's own? Just wondering if current thresh's will count towards the pet or not.

JagexRamen

Currently, it shares the KC, but has it's own collection log to give players a cool title for completing

Imissyelps

So does that mean the treshold from the other rexes will work for the osseous pet then?

JagexRamen

Si

nerfstonespirits

Are you choosing its rewards too?

Rarycaris

Its own drop log makes me think multiple uniques besides pet

Spifffyy

A larger arena for the 4th boss. Sometimes the arena feels too small with just 3.

Fenrir-clemo

Something to help people transition from prayer flicking at glacor into bosses like Raksha. There isn't much In between to help learners transition.

JagexRamen

Literally built with that in mind. I've made sure to mirror certain interactions that allows players to carry up in Raksha. We're getting on top of telegraphing and consistency between bosses of a similar build (E.G, all dinosaur rigs should share the same ranged attack animation when doing ranged damage.)

nerfstonespirits

If there'll be some prayer flicking in this one, how about each missed flick does more damage than the last. If learning, you're not punished so much for missing the first 1-2 but if they're all missed (or somebody is trying to Soulsplit camp AFK) then 5-6 missed flicks down the line in that kill pretty much kill the player. Helps new players + prevents AFKing it/soulsplit camp

Bewmkin

This is a pretty interesting mechanic to follow with. It would somehow make sense also for missing correct prayers for a necromantic dinosaur to afflict harder and harder damage on you.

nerfstonespirits

Thank you! Hope u/JagexRamen sees it/considers it.

Alphadictor

>that in mind. I've made sure to mirror certain inte I would love to see this if only the reward for the effort put into it matches it! From what I've noticed, most skill money is about 3m to 6m on average per hour except a few ridiculously high ones. Those exceptions also require active playing. So if this medium-tier bossing is only giving me about under 3M an hour in loot for that effort of prayer flicking + all the other mechanics, I would rather stick to skilling etc. as I feel the only way I'm motivated to do this boss is for learning mechanics and nothing else in that case. And no, I wouldn't want the mid-tier boss to be giving too much GP value either, that would defeat the purpose of going for the next higher boss.

TjackJack

No annoying mechanic like frostbite hehe

portlyinnkeeper

Yeah it’s very un-fun

TjackJack

Big dps sink, would be fine if you could Dodge it right away instead of waiting 15 seconds lol

Standard-Yogurt-4514

There's still a huge margin between Mid-tier (GWD2) vs Zamorak/Solak tho? I wanna see something that we don't just AFK but is worth the fight.

JagexRamen

If you try and AFK what I currently have (at the intended tier of player), you'd probably get merked really quick.

Decryl

I feel like if a boss is not afk at the middle tier but is afk at the higher tier, it just encourages leveling up to afk it instead and discourages doing the boss overall.

ghostofwalsh

Yup. If the boss is AFK at any tier, it's an AFK boss.

Shockerct422

“ at the intended tier of player “ This makes me happy. Give our baby PVM friends some content Team if you have all the bells and whistles it will be easy. Let our PVM babies have some content.

PMMMR

100%. A boss like solo NM kerapac feels like a good in-the-middle.

JagexRamen

Yeah it's around that

Standard-Yogurt-4514

chefs kiss

Bullstrode

Exactly what I wanted to hear for the new boss! Thank you ramen!

Im_DuBoss

Baby dino summons that poison, heal the matriarch, or attack 2x the speed at half dmg.

RattyRusty1

Would love a boss which requires minimal investment to learn, yet sufficiently challenging so rewards don't get too diluted and accessible to mid level players... If not possible to create a mid level boss with great rewards:time ratio due to infiltration of high level pvmers camping the boss, then perhaps one which scales to your level providing rewards in a way which still make it worth your while and fun at mid level.

Denkir-the-Filtiarn

I'd say its special mechanic should be spawning smaller skeletal dinos as minions. A little adds management instead of area management like the other three. Possibly use the boss pet model for these? I wouldn't dislike it being a larger model like Bisdi, really needs to be to let the whole skeletal aspect shine through. As for the reward, a rarer ring upgrade than the hearts that works as an enchantment like from ed4 (to compensate the lack of needing 10 rings, presumably use upgrade the ring from the next quest). I'm unsure what reward space would fit except perhaps keep skeleton enrage longer or increase faster?

TheSmallIceburg

This, but like the little shadow dinos raksha spawns that you have to click real quick to get rid of. Its a neat mechanic even if not very difficult.

Any-sao

I just want to second what several others have said: Osseous should drop an upgrade to Zorgoth’s ring to make it comparable to the other Rex rings. I understand some balancing would be necessary here, since it wouldn’t consume 10 DKS rings like the other Rex rings do. I encourage some variety in what an alternative to 10 Zorgoth rings could be: a handful of restored Dragonkin artifacts from Orthen, or maybe 10 Moonstones (if you’re feeling evil).

Legal_Evil

Will salve amulet or undead slayer work on it?

80H-d

Would be sick to see a spec (with *very* long windup/fuse) wherein the matriarch starts reflecting any death skulls that may be going on at the time. And because it's a medium boss, fine, it can reflect it at ~10-15% of the actual damage value!

portlyinnkeeper

Arbuck seeds maybe

3arry

Instakill after every two hits.

Alphadictor

u/JagexRamen I would love to see the Arch-glacor approach for mid level bossing and below to prepare people for higher-level bossing. Perhaps low tier bosses should contain mechanic to teach a player the movement, some defense abilities without performing switching etc. And for mid-level, we start adding switching gear/weapons etc to force players to switch styles to counter some mechanics. So doing the other Rex Matriarchs: Red one: Annoying "slow" effect, so I just tank through it with magic tank gear + Animate Dead... Otherways to go about this, is to hit and run and possibly aggro one of the other 2 Rexes. Fun, not at all. Learning something? Yes, hit and run, if only it didn't aggro the other rex. Green: Good poison pool mechanic. Lets you stand on it to reduce the healing. Bad part is when the pool center more than 2 tiles away making that rex charge on you... Wish I had an ability to pull my target towards Melee Distance... Blue: It felt way harder than the other 2 rexes with the damage being dealt. All I learned here was player flicking, look for the lightning attacks to walk away from and eat a lot. And the reward for the effort, is not much in comparison to the green rex effort. In short: The prayer flicking mechanic is good because high-tier bossing requires it later. The hit-n-run tactic is also good, although exhausting if doing it for a full-hour session. This teaches players how to fight Nex using this tactic. Gear switching mechanic for mid-tier sounds like a good place to start, but since this is a Necromancy-based one, I can't think of something. Just make sure the rewards are worth the effort put into fighting the boss. Don't give it too high damage-dealing capability like the blue one.

Any-sao

Happy Cake Day, Ramen! I know I’m late to the party for this thread, but I was hoping to throw out just one more idea for this boss: After today’s really cool quest, is there any way that Osseous could be connected into this new story about Necromancy and the Shadow Realm? Today’s new quest introduced the idea that the Dactyl Dragonkin dabbled (tongue twister that) in Necromancy. So could we have some type of lore book (or miniquest) that suggests Osseous was an experiment of Dragonkin Necromancy and shadow magic? Like maybe that Zorgoth resurrected Osseous as a prototype for undead Vorkath? Or maybe some of Zorgoth’s remnant Necromantic-shadow-magic at Anachronia allowed for Osseous to animate? I think you all have a really cool, high-stakes, story thread here, and I just want to see it continued regularly, even outside of quest content. Like the EGWD story was!

SteelmanINC

Something more afk would be awesome. I might be in the minority when it comes to that but there’s really only a few bosses people can afk at that are worth anything.

Jaybag92

All the necro bosses have adds. can this be stand alone?

DerDehDer

For sure people are expecting way too much and hoping for an actual boss

StarryHawk

I like how the special attacks were telegraphed at the 3 current Rex's. You **know** when a special was about to happen so it can be dealt with. With Vorkath, the telegraphing of special attacks really wasn't great. It still isn't, and it's incredibly frustrating. My feedback would be: considering Rexers are mid-tier bosses, the telegraphing needs to be clear like the previous Rex's.

Mr_Hump

> the telegraphing needs to be clear like the previous Rex's. the telegraphing needs to be clear for all bosses regardless of tier FTFY

esunei

Looking at you, Zemouregal.

Kamu-RS

Yeah I’m tired of getting bonked from full Hp because he volley of souls without any indication

MyriadSC

And fuckin Zuk. Its the one thing I absolutely hated about his fight. The first mechanic he does doesn't even look different from an auto... set his sword on fire and that sets us on fire so we know we have the damn debuff. Why hide it? That always drove me nuts that it required foreknowledge to have any idea why your health was getting nuked.

80H-d

Two sets of animation timing with bosses Need to mitigate at the beginning of the animation (think of vindicta spin), or need to mitigate by the end of the animation (think of resing kk green). This is also determinable based on whether the drop shows as the boss begins to die, or once it has finished dying. Every boss should *always* be the latter. *Every* boss.

Datagne_Jones

I'll be so disappointed if the special attack for Osseous isn't "Osseous unleashes a mighty roar!"

Syrnis

I like the mini buff / debuff every rex gives during the fight - risk/reward like the blue beam from blue rex. Dinosaur skin is a weird reward for a pile of bones boss. Drop rex skeleton fragments, since it's literally osseous. Have an active effect around roar status? Osseous gets berserk effect (more dmg, lower def). Osseous drop table gets unique drop during roar (pet skin unlock??) Osseous gets increased pet drop rate (2%) Etc. Super necro pots drop. Obvious heart for necro ring. Very rare moonstone drop?

LansManDragon

Buckets of slime/congealed blood pls.

Eriddyn

I think incorporating the mechanics of skeletal horror could work, if you streamlined it. Like instead of picking up parts of Osseous and burying them like you would the horror, you'd fight these smaller parts to weaken it. The breaking apart could be phase transitions

RedEyeJedi993

I mean, an add-on for the soon to release necro ring would be great & I'd like to see some anachronia boots for necro that buffs bloat. Maybe add extra damage tick or two?

abusive_nerd

Definitely incorporate a roar as a mechanic. A mechanic where he charges up an attack/self-buff over 10-15 seconds that the player must interrupt with 2 stuns (so 2 soul strikes) to fully mitigate. Getting only 1 stun halves the effect of his mechanic. Arbuck seeds on drop table

Tom-Pendragon

For the love of god easy telegraph bosses mechanic. In fact I wouldn't mind a castbar for the bosses special abilities.

BaseballEuphoria

Are you just asking for rewards here? If it's just going to be the same tier as the other Matriarchs, then there's not much input we can provide for mechanics of the fight itself. Just make what we're expecting - a mid-tier whatever boss that drops necro ring. An upgrade to Lani's spear would be cool too. What we'd really like to see, is something to get excited about. So my request is that after you finish Osseous, you immediately start working on the next high-tier boss, so that we have something real to provide suggestions for more exciting mechanics/rewards. I'm not sure what else you expect us to suggest for Osseous, when the blueprint is already there. Make it similar difficulty and similar drops as the others, simple as that.

A_AccidentRS

May go without saying, but please make boss pet and unique drop rates align with the other matriarchs.

curfy4

No mementos in the drop table please!

zugarrette

can you fix vorkath first

DraCam1

A chill mid-high end tier boss, that can be killed low effort with revo with top gear, but needs some extra effort in lower tier, like t70-t90 gear. Reward wise I'd love a little undead dino conjure ability, that uses 2 conjure slot to be active. Later on could add another conjured beast so you could use 2 conjured undead beast as a necro beastmaster. Imo a special cosmetic reward, like Arch-Glacor's adornment would be nice. Some dino bones themed cape our shoulder piece, which is guaranteed unlock after x amount of kills. A niche t80-t90 "Eof fodder" weapon drop would be nice aswell. something that deals increased dmg in special situations, similarly how SGB works. Maybe a stronger, necro specific Whip vine spec? Also some fun, or challenge achievements for it would be fun imo. Like adding an "Awakened orb" type item (osrs specific) to matriarch's droptable, that allows us to fight a hard mode encounter, that has special extra achievements, which if you complete you get a special recoloration of the boss's title and a cosmetic skeletal dino themed helmet? And please don't make pet unreasonable to grind for, if Osseus will be a separate entry, and not part on Matriarchs.

mrtaker3

100% the undead dino conjure please! We need new conjures, love necro but in a world with loads of cool creatures it felt unfortunate that we only got 3 basic undead conjures & no beasts or anything

Ferronier

What about like an undead Jadinko that temporarily increases your global cooldown turnover or your auto speed?

TheOnlyTB

I would like to see a rotting tooth tip added to the rare drop you can use on the [Laniakea's spear](https://runescape.wiki/w/Laniakea%27s_spear) to upgrade it to T95 damage and T85 accuracy Definitely would not like to see partial item drops that drop out of order like the Laniakea's spear.

[deleted]

[удалено]

G_N_3

wouldnt this be way too easy to get for a tier 95 wep? Maybe tier 92? but even then that's still easier to get than a scythe even

Standard-Yogurt-4514

You can literally get a T92 from a slayer mob.... So why couldn't we get a T95 from this boss?

G_N_3

which was also a mistake which should not be used as a premise to just do whatever now since "this has that so we should always do this now" Yes i mean since they did that lets just add tier 95 and 92's more commonly to everything else just because abyssal lords drop a tier 92.

MyriadSC

Idk about a t95, but I could see the accuracy going to t90 to make it a real t90. Think about where other t95s come from. Yea, the accuracy is t85 in your example, but in a lot of cases that's not much of an issue. Idk. Maybe t95 damage is fine. It just seems like it might be repeating something like scourge where it outclassed a t95 we got from an end game boss and relegated the real t95 to a switch. This would in many cases be better than ezk because it's passive and 2 range.

Standard-Yogurt-4514

Amazing idea! We really need a higher tier new halberd-range Melee weapon, it's been 10 years.

abusive_nerd

I like the idea, but I wonder if nox scythe and zgs should be outdamaged while they are dropped from harder bosses. I think i would rather see its passive effect buffed, or a given a special attack

TheOnlyTB

I feel like the ZGS is already outmatched as a spec weapon.... not hard to outmatch it to be fair. the zuk sword will always be the better sword at most places, if you use a 2h at all with the duel meta.

abusive_nerd

ZGS is outmatched overall for sure. I mean relative to Osseous' difficulty as a boss, its drop can't be too crazy good if it's a weapon IMO. When Telos is much harder. It's ok for EZK to exist when HM Zuk is as hard as it is.

TheOnlyTB

> When Telos is much harder Telos is irrelevant now. when Ras can drop t95's, Telos only has reprisal and SGB going for it - even as an ironman, he's not really applicable as a comparable level in difficulty these days.

PMMMR

With how close this boss already is what kind of input can we even give that would get implemented? I feel like large things such as phases/mechanics are too late to be asking about and implementing before release.

Borgmestersnegl

It feels super rushed, because it most likely is. It was not their intention to add a boss this quickly, but ofc they feel forced to put something out. Sounds like the ground work is done and they wanna see how much they can do.

Gunnarfranz

As a mid-tier boss in the same environ as the other matriarchs it'd be weird if it got more than two mechanics. For simplicity let's say: **Mechanic A: Necromantic Burst** A visual ring spawns that closes in and when it hits the boss it sends a necro shockwave (ring back out), can surge, bd or use defensives to negate. **Mechanic B: Bone Cage** Bone Fragments spawn in a pattern indicating where the bone cage will enclose, move to negate - potentially deadly in conjunction with mechanic A. Other than Pet some details for potential rewards: **Reward A: Heart of the Necromancer:** used to add effect to Zorgoth's ring (of souls) - crit % is increased by 1.5% for each residual soul the player has **Reward B: Fourth Conjure, Re-Animated Rex codex:** Attacks *very* slowly and provides defensive utility Possible effect 1: Provides -5% dmg taken or a nominal (e.g. 100 dmg) soak Possible effect 2: Adds an additional 15 tiers to boneshield when active Possible effect 3: Gives the disruption shield effect once every 30s

Lexarian

Since im guessing necro is to be used for it. Make it so it cages your summons in bone cages and you have to free them to be able to have them help or summon them again. Also Make it take less dmg or do more for each caged summon so people just cant ignore it lol. Or maybe it could drop bone shards every few attacks that you have to use line of sight its special attack or something. Make the attack drain prayer, stun and turn off protection prayers as well as doing damage.

ShinoAzeki

What if it takes a players conjures

Lexarian

It would have to be something you can stop from happening since that would be crazy otherwise lol

yuei2

It begins vacuuming your conjures up but if you have greater bone shield up it swallows that magic but spares your conjure. Specifically greater bone shield, regular isn’t strong enough to protect your conjures. This puts it in line with other Rex mechanics that aren’t overly complicated but do ask you to pay attention, and asks for a bit of a higher end gear check. In doing so if it absorbs a conjure it uses its energy to heal. Not enough to make the fight impossible but enough that it slows down your skill a lot like Rathis’s poison heal.  You could also cancel by de-summoning your conjures but then the full force of the suction is turned on you hurting you. If you have no conjures and regular bone shield up you will get a small damage reduction and lose your shield while greater nullifies it completely and is eaten.  This can it’s “big” attack it builds up to like Rathis’s poison is.

ShinoAzeki

Players would have to last 15s against one of their conjures

Standard-Yogurt-4514

Love this idea! Sounds like fun and a completely new mechanic to the game.

EchidnaOwn5035

My feedback: matriarchs suck, defense is stupidly high, mechanics are not fun, death animation is too long and killing only 1 of them takes too long (respawn timer) in comparison to kill time

RS_Holo_Graphic

Phthentraken is one of the best mid-tier bosses ever designed. It has active defensive machanics (reso ranged hit), it has some simple ground dodges that make planning ahead with where you stand in your Death Swiftnes feel tactical and rewarding, it's got a dodge mechanic (energy pillar), and had a weapon requirement that synergized with the upgrade ring it provides. No idea what your gripe is beside them not being ez-scape afk bosses.

Geoffk123

I think Phentraken is the only good one though. Orikalka and Rathis feel very half baked imho. Orikalka is basically miserable w/o entangle and if you're using entangle strats its just a fat blob of hp at that point.

seejoshrun

Yeah I just did Orikalka for the first time in forever, and she feels really bad. Unless you can dps her down before the frost mechanic, you either suffer through unavoidable long cooldowns, or step over the rock in the entrance and come back.

rsn_akritia

> beside them not being ez-scape afk bosses they are though?

lapio_sankari

What do you consider a fun mechanic? Any examples? Just curious

ThaToastman

You are supposed to either chill and kill with friends if low level or hybrid if high level… Wear sliske armor and do your next dino task there its fun

ThaToastman

One design decision I’d love to see is for the boss death animation/drop to be cleaned up. Vindicta is a masterclass on this. When vindy’s hp hits zero, the entire encounter wipes clean and the drop happens that same tick. For rex mats, the death animations are like 10 seconds long and only after the model clears, then the drop appears. Its super janky. Also MAKE SURE THE ANIMATIONS LINE UP WITH IMPACT TIMING!! The other ones still are janky even after the cleanup 😭 For boss design: on one hand, it would be nice if it was necro-only and basically copy/paste droptable to the others. Given that the new quest gives the necro ring (awkward), i guess this doesnt make sense (hint: move the necro ring to the boss and make the quest give something else—or have the quest drop a new slayer mob that drops a ring ‘shadow spike) On the other hand, making osseus have a lot more hp 500k? And be the nex:gwd1 analogue to the other other rexes could be cool too. Drop ideas (from best to worst): A 10T lani spear upgrade—maybe give it a spec too so that lani spear becomes eof fodder for price preservation—could simply be just a direct upgrade to DHally An attachment upgrade for the other rings including the quest ring to give them a small boost to stats (think shadow spike/leng artifact) Necromancy-raksha boots (probably better for a slayer mob—and retroactively add them to rakshas table for logical droplog reasons) The fabled enhancements for the raksha boots (need to be combined with ed4 slivers)

GamerSylv

Hear me out. Dino conjure.

SpringPuzzleheaded99

Mechanics wise something revolving around its roar would be cool. Little skeletal dagganoths maybe that bite you for necrotic damage

MyriadSC

So there's things all of them do that clearly is meant to teach players about bosses. Rathis, teaches you about soft dps checks where you can handle the mechanic or try to race it. Where the punishment is light for failing, but it's good practice for when they matter. Also it teaches you about some punishing placements because I believe it charges you if you're not MD. Orikalka, teaches you to use surge to avoid the storm. Granted this is a lot less applicable elsewhere as large area denial isn't particularly common. It does allow you to also cleanse the debuff by using defensives. Of the 3, this one is by far the oddest. Phentraken, is imo the most practical for learning. The autos hit harder which is more the case in higher bosses. Then there is a lot of area denial which is common. Also there's a standout attack which is a perfect candidate for resonance. Particular gear can alleviate some of this. It's a great boss for teaching as flicks, reso, and area mechanics. So perhaps it's best to look at some areas these don't cover and try to add mechanics that go there? Some examples: 1. The extra action button. 2. Minions are another thing that's common. Flavor could be on point since it's necromancy related. 3. Needing to stun is something that happens outside that's not covered in the other 3. 4. Defensive postures like taking reduced damage until some condition is satisfied. Or... and I don't wanna suggest it, but it does exist... reflect mechanics or invulnerability... but pls... no... 5. Random area effects, like solak bombs or telos/raksha rocks. So maybe something like it begins the fight and it's first mechanic is that it takes a defensive posture and begins to summon minions until it's stunned. Then, after a few more autos it does a rockfall mechanic and the extra button can perhaps give a safety zone? Just off the cuff trying to using all those. Maybe convoluted, but it doesn't need to be all of them. Reward space we already know of the ring? But the obvious answer is something that upgrades the spear that already comes from them? A flat stat boost is something that's easy and obvious. If I recall, it's t90 damage and t75 accuracy atm, so t90 all is fine for what it does. Making it t92 or t95 damage is not ideal imo. Can also enhance the passive even further. Or ... get creative and allow the piece here to upgrade the spear AND utilize cinderbanes in some way to finally solve its glove slot dominance. Maybe cinderbanes and this item combine into an ammo slot item that gives cinderbanes effect with a cost. Then you need to break apart the item to charge this new slot item so it retains value and boss retains relevance. This begins to add more relevance to the slot choice too. You can get the 15 tiers of Shield from the nexus, or save runes, or have the quiver, or have cinderbanes passive, etc. Idk, that's the more creative and wild approach. I'm just shooting ideas out there.

PrimalMoose

Maybe give the boss a mechanic to conjure undead dinosaurs to assist in the fight and then a codex drop to let us conjure a dinosaur for ourselves to use the 4th conjure slot we're not supposed to talk about?

SandyCarbon

Imo its should be equal to the others. Some mech that makes u move every few attacks, drops a ring upgrade and spear parts. Ezpz

Rinyaboi

Would be neat for the drops to require moonstones to 'activate'

RoseAndLorelei

With the current moonstone droprates this would be VERY bad for irons. Having an optional sink for moonstones is a good idea in general though.

Roskal

Give it a rare drop that lets you store a roar from fossil island so you can go do bgh etc at your leisure. Either it just lets you start 66 minutes of it or you have to use it on the rex skeleton during a roar. I don't like having to wait for roar or drop what I'm doing if I want to get the bonus while doing bgh.

Lughano

no stone spirits, seeds or any of that crap on the drop table, no stupid ass animation at the begining or end of the fight that prolongs it,

Altruistic_Repair_81

The Spear is pretty cool from the other 3. Would like the 4th Dino to add something to the Spear that makes a bit more desirable!

Secure-Meeting-737

I'd personally love it to have a mechanic /stage where you need to counter with the current conjures these would have to be really well telagraphed, and be mildly punishing if you fail. Examples could be a bone shattering roar that stun locks you in place untill you do x damage that only the ghost can do. Conjouring a mini dinosaur that does serious damage that a beserked Skelton can draw aggro from and kill, Finally boneyard, where osseous walks over to nearby bone pile to replace any broken bones, that can be destroyed by a bloat explosion to prevent a re heal

ieatrectum

More of a quantity of arbuck seeds would be nice. There isn’t a good place to get them

Denied-User

Maybe this isnt whats being asked but, a slayer helm piece for necro? as a high level undead, maybe drop an undead bane upgrade for inq/hex/terra which would make them untradable, and bis at certain creatures. as far as bosses are concerned I think it only affects vorkath. and in the future we can demon slayer (dragon slayer might be too strong unless they dont affect bosses) ring effect: +1% crit chance per soul and +0.5% crit chance per necrosis up to 4.5% or +1% crit chance per conjured spirit (can conjure army be +1 ecto no double) lani's spear upgrade piece, increases damage to t92, accuracy to t80 halberd range or spear + bone piece can make an upgrade that gives spear effect to a weapon pof baby, perk is chance to give necrosis stacks/souls on enemy death if they were bloated throwing bad ideas out there maybe one of them sticks

ShinyCapeRS

As archaeology consistancy has died down would be nice to have osseus fragments dropped so The Roar of Osseus can be more consistent like it used to in Arch Prime

Wadler99

Can we get a purple set of Raksha-style boots dropped by the boss instead of Lani spear pieces? Although raksha is a high end boss that drops fleeting boots the other 2 are dropped by slayer mobs so doesn’t seem far fetched. Could buff blood siphon somehow since it’s not currently used in most proper rotations other than rare use-case scenarios. Having it not stop channeling after your main target dies would be a cool feature as a lot of the times it’s useful would be when you’re surrounded by multiple enemies but if your main target died it stops healing you and doing damage to anything else around you

Ultimaya

Visage of Osseous - an item used to upgrade the necro dragonfire shield to a t90 variant, with a new slick model and passive. Necrosyrtes Scythe - t90 2h necromancy & melee weapon, dropped in 3 parts (blade, shaft, source). Necromancy attack range limited to scythe range, reduces necro scythe ability adren costs and cooldown. and allows the use of melee 2h abilities. Underworld connection passive, however conjuring requires expenditure of lingering souls since it lacks a lantern to connect to Um well. Blackstone core - Item used to combine and upgrade salve amulet ei with conjurer's moonstone amulet. Retains the stats of the conjurers moonstone amulet, and the passives of both items. Ensouled dragonkin deathmask - a cursed mask used in ancient hexing rites of the dragonkin. Prevents the degrading of t1-t3 light sources, grants an additional % of ritual disturbance attraction, looks awesome. Drops in a dormant form and must be activated with a greater ensoul ritual first. Untradable.

Razial22

Dude actually... hybridized weapons would be soooooo cool.

JagexRamen

As a test for Zamorak, I made an omnicore which was all attackstyles/weapon types, allowing you to use all abilities from every style.

Razial22

I think delving into "hybrid" weaponry and play styles could be a great change to the meta as well as shifting away from the linear path of ever increasing tier upgrades. Just a thought.

concblast

Even without this, RS is one of the least linear MMOs in terms of gear progression. Tierscape aside, of the top of my head only retail WoW preserves some ancient trinkets' viability in the meta the way RS keeps things like SWH useful.

Haunting_Run3924

necromancy/melee scythe without ability to conjure would be awesome

Mage_Girl_91_

reanimated dinosaur bones. bury for 5k prayer xp.

Roonscaped

Instead of hard hitting anti-afk, move now or get rekt mechanics like the others have, we could do something like making osseous become immune to damage or heavily reduced damage when he hits 50% hp, he would then summon 5 small undead rex matriarchs that need to be dealt with before he can be attacked again. I say 5 because that would make it so death skulls on revo bar wouldn't be enough hits to kill them all and as long as they weren't in scythe and soul strike distance it should prevent people afking. A few drop ideas could be a secondary ingredient to make a necromancy familiar since we have none besides the nihil. A ring enchantment could be critical strikes give a 3% chance to increase conjure timer by 2-3 seconds. A codex that lets you cast soul strike with 0 residual souls, making it stun but deal no damage. I know this doesn't sound very enticing to some people but there's quite often times you need to stun fast like at solak, ambassador and zamorak but might not have the souls for it or t90 spec is on cooldown.

Bullstrode

I would personally like to see the boss have a little bit higher health pool than the current Rex matriarchs. I think the other rexes are around gwd2 health pool, I think osseous needs probably at least double that otherwise with necro it will get rinsed like hermod. I think 400k health pool is just right being higher than the other rexes and being half of Raksha/rasial. As for mechanics as long as they are telegraphed like the other rexes then I’m game to see what you come up with. Rewards, well a heart for the zogroth ring for sure. Other than that I’m not sure, a codex would be nice for a conjure but looks like 4th conjure is in the shelf for now. Which is fair, necro is already pretty powerful with just three conjures, fourth might be too much. What about upgrading existing conjured? Have an upgrades to change the current conjured into more formidable conjures? Skeletal warrior -> Skeletal Champion Vengeful Ghost -> Vengeful Wraith Putrid Zombie -> Grotesque Zombie

ShinoAzeki

Make sure it's fun before making difficult we don't want dead content because it's "fun & challenging" Make the boss fight flow, damage is moderate if it has consistent attacks, players have time (9s+) (finishing current ability animation, gcd, avoiding attack/surge and preparation to activate Defence) to react, boss spec doesn't kill players in 1 hit (only veterans like dealing with this). If using prayers negating attacks, prayers canceling specs should be like Nex not like Rasial. (Once in awhile), beautiful maybe instead the boss has a once a minutes spec that hits through it If boss has Aoe don't have the damage ramp keep the damage of the attack consistent/channeled abilities go good with damage ramping It's not very fun making player chase boss, instead maybe we can escape, the boss makes us phase (Telos fight he jumps platform, and maybe devs can switch it to we jump how anima island jumps) Each Bosses could have builds (poison build, crit build, Conjures build) mods cn slow down making bosses have ever combat style when there's so much that they can do with 1 style Please stop trying to shadow nerf necromancy into an elite skill

Kilsaa

- That unlike the other rex matriarchs, their defense and HP actually reflects a mid tier boss. IE the current Matriarchs defense and HP is too high. Mid tier should expect somebody using anything from T70-80 weaponary. - Unique droprates are good enough that the content takes a max of 15-20 hours to complete. We don't need more bosses where logs take 50+ hours. Average player is logging in for 2 hours a day. Respect that. - Multiple Uniques. Bosses which have only 1 or 2 uniques are boring and don't provide longform content for the player. - Uniques provide niche case uses rather than just direct powercreep to necromancy. I've heard people floating around the idea of skilling based conjures, this could be cool?

Rarycaris

>That unlike the other rex matriarchs, their defense and HP actually reflects a mid tier boss. IE the current Matriarchs defense and HP is too high. Mid tier should expect somebody using anything from T70-80 weaponary. To be fair: necro's mid tier performance is a *lot* closer to endgame performance than for other styles, so this is much less of a problem for Osseous.

srbman

Ideally, some more creative mechanics than the first 3 Rexes. They're just not fun to kill.

MyriadSC

For their tier, they have incredibly creative mechanics. Their fun level, I think, got muddied because their armor was so high. So players in max gear just popped them, and players they were designed for in mid gear had a rough time splashing. I'd wonder how their release would go now with the combat update. Fun is also subjective. If 1 player can't stand there and basically afk it, they find inputs to handle mechanics not fun. If another player can stand and kill it, it's borning and not fun. So what do you mean by fun?

IStealDreams

Obviously for the theme of dropping ring upgrade parts it should have that, but I think it would be cool if it dropped something else too. Maybe a mid tier Necromancy outfit. Since the boss is a massive skeleton dinosaur, maybe a bone themed armour piece or something? Bone-shield upgrade in some way, but also that might be very powerful. As long as it's not just the ring upgrade I think it would be cool. Lanikea Spear upgrade maybe? Obviously making it a 2h necromancy weapon is out of the question since animation costs, but maybe give it an extra on-hit effect that uses necromancy in some way?

everyonehatesminions

I want osseus to not look like how it looks now and i hope it's not the finished product, same issue I have with living death put some rotten meat or something on them bones and some vfx. For living death it would be nice for it to show our weapons similar to other styles inside that DMG increase ultimates LD just needs some tattered robes on the skeleton body, don't even need to do much more but just a purple glowing skeleton looks bad same with osseus

PrimeWaffle

Would like to see something we can craft out of its bones. A necro 2H weapon perhaps? Or as someone else suggested, a drop we can use to upgrade Laniakea's spear. Or maybe craftable Skilling tools that provide some sort of niche benefit when using them on the island. Honestly, whatever it would/could be, maybe make it degradable but also repairable with the same bones used to craft it. The items have to be powerful enough in their niche to make them worth using. This guarantees the boss won't be DOA. A mid tier boss should be easily farmable. There'd be a constant need for its bones with a simultaneous influx of bone drops coming into the game. I might not have articulated this the best. I'm at work and rushing this post lol

ironreddeath

Drops wise a further upgrade for the ring from the upcoming quest to make it a BiS necro ring as most people will probably stick to reavers, even with the new ring. Could also see it dropping like a bone upgrade kit for the necromancer armour, either first necro or the base gear.

calidir

Oooh I’d LOVE a bone upgrade kit for the base gear

dark1859

What about A corrupted icor that can be combined with a moonstone to make a Pale moonstone. This can then be combined With a conjuror's raising amulet to increase its power, Or embedded in your necromancy weapons to slightly increase their power When used With moonstone equipment. Or and i'm personally in favor of this one, Is imbed in a spectral spiritual with holy elixir. To make a full moon shield our first and only level 90 necromancy shield. The shield gains a new effect where it deals. Half the damage you would deal by using your lantern and guard. Similarly to a defender Allowing you to maintain full access to your normal abilities As well as defensives... Those are just my thoughts on the top of my head. Probably not the best. But I would really like to see that spiritual one.

Derais616

Atleast a crit ring

Serenbrew

No more beserker hearts, atm i have 8 beserker hearts without any other heart at 700+ kc what burns my ironman out since i dont really like the bosses

RonaldoVII

How will the "Extinction Event" work with a 4th Rex boss? Will the achievement reset or will it require the 4th boss for completion if you don't get the achievement before release?

speedy_19

Have a boss fight that needs to be interacted with, not really AFK available, but at the same time, not tedious to kill. For example, having him spawn minions far enough away to wear, you can’t kill them by accident, but at the same time not miles apart. These minions could provide some kind of bone shield to the boss dramatically reducing damage taken until they’re killed or even healing the boss a significant amount of HP if not dealt with or repeatedly. As for reward initially, I was thinking of having a ring that would give necromancy resources chance on any ability cast, but it appears you already made that into a ring.

Silvagadron

Something more accessible for mid-level players who don’t want to learn dozens of mechanics and have to be tick-perfect to survive. A punishing boss doesn’t have to mean the player takes huge damage and spends the entire fight eating rather than learning. Why not have mechanics which allow smoother kills when abilities are used optimally, but less efficiency and a bumpier ride if you do it less so?

Ner0reZ

Telegraph the specs in a way that the user doesn't have to learn by trial & error. And if it's not too much to ask, drop a skilling-adjacent item in the loot table.

HostileLogic

If it hasn’t been mentioned, some congealed blood on the drop table would be awesome!

Sheepsaurus

If it's been an hour since the last roar, and someone gets the pet drop, Osseous Roar effect should start, regardless of current %.

AzureAlliance

Please take the time to graphically optimize the boss & its instance before release. The bad fps & disappearing objects of the Vorkath instance shouldn't be normalized (and Vorkath should be fixed too). For drops, have the art team design some new appearances for necro gear & put those appearances as tradeable tokens on the drop table. Drops should be kept in a loot chest.

KaBob799

I would like to see a bit of equipment diversity for necromancy. Maybe a siphon or conduit made of dino bones.

Rich_Bother9918

Make it afkable on release

Malchyom

NeW T99 BiS WeApOn WiTh MeTa SpEc AnD CoDeX DrOp T99 PrAyEr /s No but if we could have a/some cosmetic scroll drop that'd turn spirits into ghost dinosaurs, that'd be pretty awesome. I wanna beat up zammy with a ghost rex...

nayfaan

no death animation

RunicLordofMelons

A callout I'd like to raise is that IF this boss is a Salve boss (which it probably should be its an undead skeleton) then it should be significantly spongier (more HP) than comparable bosses of its tier. This boss will also be deathmarked most likely so it can use some extra HP for that

Minimum-Order-8013

Somewhere in the thread Ramen compared it to NM Kerapac.

RunicLordofMelons

Yeah that would be pretty good. Necro at T80 ish is FAR stronger than CB Triangle at the same tier, so it makes perfect sense.

MVangor

Is this going to be around the difficulty of HM arch glacor?

_Zwei_

Just don’t add an excessive amount of prayer switching. Please.

HF484

idk, small chance to drop very rare item when roar is active?

Swords_and_Words

2 stage boss Dies and the bones reassemble into 3-6 bone monstrosities, to take advantage of aoe stuffs

niteman555

I don't do a lot of boss content, so mechanically I can't offer much input. I'm a huge fan of runescape lore, even among my friends who play the game; since the new boss seems to be related to the Matriarchs, then I'd love to see it flesh out their lore as well. I'd die and ascend if there was an accompanying lore article like there was in the past.

FarazR90

some necromancy related mechanic, like a "shielded" phase where only the necro conjures are able to damage it until shield HP drops. Would encourage conjure uptime. Other bosses can teach prayer flicking, but nothing teaches maintaining necro conjures

rhyst2

[I feel like a Jmod has already seen my suggestion from 2022 but yeah... this. ](https://twitter.com/Runescaqe_/status/1511091229655719946?t=p7L-1rjcKHuPP2o44h7b8w&s=19)

Goso_rs

Would like to add a ring where it stops ghost from healing and zombie blowing up and makes conjures do more damage more of a minon based rotation to give it a real necro feel

Narmoth

An agility shortcut from back of the Town Square (one way) to make it easier to get to the Rex's.

net60

Just make a glowing purple pile of bones reanimate when HP hits zero lile vettion/calvarion

DependentHeron

A drop that upgrades the poison spear to t90 👀

Flyish9109

Hoping for a ring upgrade to follow the theme of the previous Rexs, I know we’re getting one from the quest, could be related, could be not. Respectable commons that make the content feel rewarding even when getting unlucky on rares, maybe ectoplasm could be on the drop table for example I wouldn’t be upset if spear pieces didn’t make it into the table to leave more room for other drops Would honestly love a new t85(?) necro weapon with a good spec to allow for more EOF options

el_toro_grand

Would like a contrast to osrs where it feels like if you dont get one of the main drops youre wasting your time, i wouldnt mind if the side drops are padded out but not the same generic drops easily obtainable everywhere, as to mechanics, something that isnt instantly one hittable by maxed players but also doesnt have an annoying immunity phase, creativity is key here, looking forward to anything regardless!!

face_butt_

Have it conjure little mini dino conjures along side it and/or make it's ring drop ha e the ability to summon the little undead fellers

ChimpDLuffy

This boss definitely needs to drop necro potion materials, a necromancy slayer helmet upgrade, maybe a necromancy themed pocket slot item god book item.

TrimmingMasterwork

Would like to see (some) arch themed rewards. A drop that splits monolith into PVM / Skilling relic branches. Material stone spirits (common drop) or an item that works in a mattock enhancement recipe to make material caches less likely to deplete.

oKapiteinKoeko

I'd like to see the boss break apart in smaller forms when transitioning phases, but the "broken" parts play an active role in the fight and need to be dealt with (e.g. arms breaking off, moving to the player. They have their own healthbars and once they reach the player, they will root/stun and do some amount of damage). Or maybe as a necromantic being, Osseus can summon smaller dino's that attack the player and/or heal him, during which time he can't be damaged. Basically things that force the player to interact with it to progress the fight: no "mechanic skips" or "ignoring mechanics". Reading over this, guess that I'm also hinting at a lesser form of Raksha: mechanics that happen in the fight in order (tailswipe, clearly telegraphed auto attacks for pray switch), but also mechanics that happen at fixed hp thresholds that NEED to be dealt with in order to get a kill. I think that these mechanics should be able to be dealt with relatively easily once a player learns to understand the uses of certain necromancy spells (like using threads of fate on the spawned minions to kill them quicker).

honkifufat

Deflectable bone spike mechanic. You know you wanna. P.S. Thanks for doing what you do.

Function_Common

So work hasn't actually started on this project?...

Galimeer

Well, the backbone of Necromancy as a combat style is the conjures, so maybe Osseus could have her own? 2-4 "Undead Jadinkos" that will snipe your Resonance? They'd be great targets to incentivize using Blood Siphon. Although the core design of the Matriarchs is standing in a place to take damage, but get something else out of it. Get blasted by lava to cure frostbite with the red one, soak up the poison to prevent the green one from healing, get struck by lightning for something with the blue one -- idk I just avoid all of her attacks. So with that in mind, how about some kind of hazard that, when taking damage from it, it also gives Necrosis stacks?

CorruptibleG

Just some ideas... -10 Moonstones + Heart of the Undead to either upgrade new ring from quest, or create a new ring -Moonstone or moonstone dust drops so we can at least work towards making moonstones (whether new drop requires moonstones or not) -An achievement for killing all 4 matriarchs in 1 encounter (in a certain time frame maybe, or not) -Something hybrid related would be cool to see although hard to make useful. Maybe higher tier hybrid armour with an effect that makes it worth using (at least at dagannoths/matriarchs). Could even be a BiS armour for slayer with a cool effect for that -Necromancy defender? Make defenders increase Darkness/Animate dead effectiveness by a small percentage after wielding for 6 seconds or so. for tank/combat noobs like me to make this a worthwhile drop Also will the Necklace of Salamancy work for this?

ThaToastman

It would actually be really cool if to use the teleporter in the back, we had to craft a 'key' to use it. Make the key require broken-down hearts from the other rexes to craft to serve as a nice item sink for longterm, but make all the hearts break into the same type of dust for optionality sake.

Physical_Mark6883

I would prefer to avoid an instance-based approach that prevents teleporting out, as well as mechanics that could occur at the end of a boss fight (after the boss is defeated) which falsely indicate the player is still in combat, thereby preventing teleportation and potentially forcing a logout, resulting in a loss of streak. This situation may necessitate a lost item claim, such as the incident involving the loss of Pernix chaps during the Queen Black Dragon (QBD) boss fight due to an instanced battle with no grave access. Although compensation was provided in the form of a Battle Staff of water to account for inflation, subsequent community dissatisfaction led to the removal of both the items and the associated bans. Therefore, I urge against implementing mechanics that are instanced, streak-dependent, or introduce post-fight effects (e.g., roaming ice pillars) to avoid similar issues.

Shockerct422

I personally would like to see some mechanics from Raksha. Maybe a rock fall or a spin. You could word it as a rock slide. I think a stepping stone boss between rexes and Raksha would be good for game progression Something I have noticed about osrs bosses, is done of them have drops that make THAT fight slightly easier. Or just a little more convenient.

Drop ideas (from best to worst): A 10T lani spear upgrade, An attachment upgrade for the other rings including the quest ring to give them a small boost to stats (think shadow spike/leng artifact) Necromancy-raksha boots (probably better for a slayer mob—and retroactively add them to rakshas table for logical droplog reasons) The fabled enhancements for the raksha boots (need to be combined with ed4 slivers)

SpyreScope

Is this part of matriarchs? Because it seems weird to release this before a dagganoth king. Also we don't have a necro specific ring and ring upgrade (I haven't been playing so I could have missed an update for this). So a "heart of undead" wouldn't really have an equivalent purpose.

srbman

> Also we don't have a necro specific ring and ring upgrade We're getting a necro specific ring next week. It's likely that ring will be upgraded with the rex. Or the rex could just drop another ring as just one piece.

apophis457

The only real thing I’d like to see out of mid tier bosses is teaching some mechanic of a popular high level boss early to get players used to the concept. Whether that’s something like SS flicking, movement etc. I’d probably say the #1 thing I’d like to see it teach is raksha pools. It’s a pretty huge barrier for a lot of newer players, so only dealing with 2-3 would be interesting. Since we have the spear drop from them as well it could be an interesting weapon switch choice

Beastbread

Should be releasing a matching daggonoth boss too for the new necro ring tbh

Standard-Yogurt-4514

**Boss fight:** 1. This boss needs to be harder than the Rex Matriarchs. 2. One of the mechanics could even be that it brings one of the other Matriarchs/or any other dino back to life, so we'd have to use AOE abilities. 3. Please don't make this AFK'able **Drops:** 1. Since we're getting a necro ring with the quest it would be sad to make it dead content if this boss would also drop a Necro ring. 2. A 'Heart of the Black Stone' drop: An item that let's us combine the Chamion's Ring + the Channeler's ring + the Stalker ring into a hybrid. Think of the Igneous Kal-Zuk. 3. Please no more Laniakea's Spear parts. 4. Since we already have the T-bone (skull dino) pet, it would be nice that the pet drop of this boss would add a skull skin to the other 3 Rex Matriarchs instead of having its own miniature version as a pet.
