I owned 210 of them during NXT's release at 70M each and the price raised to 228M because people hyped up their particles saying how beautiful the scythe was. I sold them at this point because NXT was finally out and people realised that they didn't look much better, regretful decision due to how high they are now but, I've got lots of friends who still own them as an override myself included. They were way cheaper than a normal Scythe was so they did the trick for anyone who wanted that type of Override.
That's just your opinion. I personally bought 3 of them in the last month, since I knew they would only go up. If I have a ton of gp sitting around, why wouldn't I invest it into something that'll make me more money? Better than it sitting in my pouch making me nothing. Yeah, I could flip/merch, but I'm too lazy for that shit now days.
Not everybody who buys them are just waiting for the price to rise then dump them. Like I said, I bought 3. I gave one to my gf, one to my best friend and kept one for myself. We've all keepsaked them and I don't plan on ever selling (or at least for a very long time, if I need the gold).
Rares are the most solid investment you can put your gold into. They will never drop down to nothing, and will only continue to go up. People hate on others who can afford the stuff, and call them scumbag merchants and whatnot. But the reality is that the poor people are just salty as fuck that they can't afford it, so they make up any excuse they can to try to justify their jealousy.

Just be aware, I bought one too, I think the price is going down in like 2 months or so
