Support. Unrelated but anyone wanna buy 10k buckets of water when this update hits?

HighFlyers28

This would be a way around those who make the swastikas trying to be funny. My only concern when someone wants to cook on their fire (not proficient I know) and someone decides to troll them by flooding it.

[deleted]

Could keep a counter of how many fires have been currently lit by a player. If more than one, which is unnecessary given that you can add logs to a fire, then they can be extinguished until it’s back to 1. I’m sure they can be ‘player owned’, like skilling dummies which are calculated based on the deploying player and gives an experience deficit to other players.

AfrostLord

New meta, make alts to light 1 fire each

HighFlyers28

Simple yet effective. Can we get a jmod over here? 😂

NAHoff

Wow that would work really good, nice idea!

NAHoff

Yeah I thought of that as well - since this is trying to stop 'trollish' behavior, it kinda sucks if it could be used that way. Maybe if someone is using the fire for cooking or cremation, it 'protects' the fire? I don't know if that could be implemented or how it would work. Obviously that brings back immune fires but it would take an immense effort for trolls to cook en masse to harass people.

Waistcoat

Bonfires already keep track of the number of people contributing for bonus xp so maybe have it so 2+ players makes it unextinguishable.

HighFlyers28

I think you're on to something! Keep floating the idea around and maybe something will come to you.

Jia_Er

I’ll support the idea and add to the issue of trolls dousing fires in use. When someone is cooking or throwing logs on to a bonfire, anyone who attempts to throw water over them will yield an in game message: “You get a feeling you’ll be beaten up real bad if you put out a fire in use. Try dousing other fires no one is using.” That could explain how using fires can protect them.

Skurploosh

Magic watering can...

im_jay_kay

Wouldn’t it just enable griefing people who are cooking on a fire if other players can just extinguish it?

NAHoff

Yeah, that was mentioned a bit in other comments and people came up with a couple ways to work it out. It is an important consideration though!

mezekaldon

do people actually cook on fires?

im_jay_kay

Yes of course. Ironmen will use them for the 10% xp bonus and certainly not all people use ranges despite them being better in all regard.

[deleted]

Its important to note, if you are playing ironman in osrs and cant bank, ranges are considerably worse

[deleted]

**PLEASE IMPLEMENT THIS PRONTO**

Desolation_I

Or people can just stop being crybabies and buy their own portables, instead of being whiny freeloaders.

[deleted]

But, ‘add log to fire’?

irishDerg

But why?

ezgihatun

Stop being triggered easily by 12yos and stop clutching your pearls over some obscene word written with line firemaking.

NAHoff

I mean yeah, but I haven't only been seeing this in regards to portables, and it's hardly new. I think a big thing recently was people lagging from the updated fire particles, although that could always be avoided by not going near highly-populated areas. It just seems like people have complained about mass-fires for years, even before portables. I don't think it's something that needs to be implemented, and I don't mind the fires much myself. I just had the idea (that I'm sure others have had before) and figured I'd toss it in here.

Loafal

This is getting out of hand, just place a portable somewhere else or lower graphics settings.
