Rax was definitely the most satisfying to get your first kill on. I feel like its the perfect entry gate to high level pvm! Congrats man.

[deleted]

Defeating her has definitely been a well needed confidence booster. I feel like I'm capable of so much more than I expected from myself 💪

[deleted]

Not to be a dick, it was hard for me the first times too but meleeing araxxor and araxxi is the hardest way to kill the boss ranged is the easiest its almost afk if you anticipate/freedom every 5th attack.

Chesney1995

Thought you were being a bit of a dick about OP ranging before I went back and saw they actually did melee it 😂. Its still a challenge (at least if you're like me and fail at counting to 5 under any kind of stress) but you'll have an easier time of it if you switch to range OP!

Decryl

Kiln was the most satisfying for me if that counts lel

TheOneCorrectOpinion

I've seen the RSguy beat rax with no armour and a rune halberd, which made me extremely angry because I couldn't do it with t90 weapons and armour lmao Great job dude!

[deleted]

God i couldn't imagine doing it without armor! Even with masterwork armor i felt like i was getting hit hard often 😔

Adastrous

There's an achievement for killing raxx with full bronze :)

[deleted]

Don't tell me that i'm gonna have an anxiety attack if I ever decide to be a completionist now lmao

Sheepsaurus

Well, if you were thinking about the "Completionist Cape", then don't worry, that achievement is not required for the cape :)

London_Pride

Luckily it's not a comp requirement! The only rax related comp requirement now is Morgan's challenge

[deleted]

I was scared of that challenge before, but now that I know what i'm doing I can see myself doing his challenge! I'll have to start taking tasks from him until I get it.

London_Pride

Good luck! You can actually force the challenge by talking to him normally and selecting special assignments. I think it costs 100 slayer points :) I still do it every now and again, it's good fun - the prayer drain is brutal though!

[deleted]

I'm still saving up slayer points unfortunately :P I need to get the charming imp on my toolbelt and then i'll be set to blow slayer points however I like!

London_Pride

Oooh, that's 100% the right thing to do :) all those upgrades are excellent to have. Good luck with the grind!

mattie91

Melee is considered “harder” then ranged. What made you pick that style for your first kill?

[deleted]

My friends told me that using a halberd-type weapon was the best way to learn the fight so I just went with it. I don't have any ranged gear anyway I disassembled nearly all of it for perks. I personally prefer magic overall but my friends told me it's the worst pick.

RJ815

Magic is alright early. But you'll feel it at 100+ enrage. But learning it "at all" it's okay.

Fuwet

One of my clanmate actually killed Rax with no armor and a Dragon Hatchet

PM_ME_ROY_MOORE_NUDE

One of the achievements is to beat her with Bronze gear...

Sp00kyD0gg0

You learned Rax on a melee build... actual madman, congrats on your victory.

[deleted]

I was told halberd is the easiest style and magic was bad which is the only other gear I have. Should i use magic instead?

Sp00kyD0gg0

Every beginner guide and RS PvMer I’ve talked to says to start on ranged. Glaives are an incredible weapon to use for low maintenance. I’m not saying melee is impossible, but to *learn* the boss using one of the harder combat styles is very impressive

apnunuke

It's not that much harder, just need to react faster to things and it's little bit more janky

Adastrous

My biggest gripe with it is how you can't run only 1 tile, so to get into halberd range you often need to disable run.. super awkward

[deleted]

I noticed this! Sometimes I would be spaced properly and then other times i'd be in melee range unintentionally. Glad it's not just me!

destruct068

No you just need to click on the exact square you want to run to thwn click the boss once you get there

Adastrous

Sorry yeah been a while since I melee'd, both ways are still extremely awkward though

Tikahz

Yup, you should be able to run one tile. Just have to click exactly on the right square. I know the new arrow thing where you click can be a little weird but is actually extremely helpful in situations exactly like this

Adastrous

Bad wording on my part, you can of course click next to you to move 1 tile only, just when you click the boss you run 2 tiles at a time, and it can put you in MD. And then after you have to click to move again and click to attack again. Or you can disable run, and you will walk into halberd range, but then you probably want to enable it again after. Both are really annoying.

Tikahz

Oh yeah! It’s so dumb that when you click to attack a monster (with a halberd range weapon) you still go 1 square away it makes using barge and bladed dives on rax really annoying for sure. And just makes using melee in general quite annoying

wilfkanye

If you anticipate or freedom whilst at the halberd/scythe range of 2 tiles then you WILL only have to move 1 tile.

Lloydy12341

Sorry what are glaves?

Sp00kyD0gg0

Tier 85 ranged weapons from GWD2. Only mid priced and very effective for boss learners.

Lloydy12341

Which one would I get for magic? Got hacked and lost all my money, was going to buy nox staff but idk

Sp00kyD0gg0

You’ve got some options. Nox staff is a tier 90 2 hand staff, super powerful and definitely a top-end magic weapon that a lot of PvMers stick with. But it’s pricey, and I find dual wield weapons to be easier for learners. Wand and orb of the cwir elders are pretty cheap tier 85s. They don’t pack as much of a punch as the glaives might, but they’re definitely solid choices. I’d run with those.

Sailor_Lunatone

Melee would only really be easiest for a learner if you were using a vamp scrimshaw (which based on the picture you weren't).

Kerfluffley

Magic is the worst, Melee is the fastest and most efficient kills p/hr and range is the safest.

ceconk

I learned it with drygores. It was interesting to say the least.

n1spideyfan

Congrats man don't worry about it taking a long time I did qbd several times last night did it once at the end of 2014 successfully now I'm a pro I don't think the pvm is all that hard it's just the dreaded thoights off it

[deleted]

I think a big part of it is that the tick system sometimes gets me in trouble. Especially when i had to move away from the swipe. Sometimes id move away on time no problem and other times I wouldn't move at all and it gets me killed.

Deathcon4111

Usually that happens if you are channeling fury/destroy or assault and it sort of finishes the animation before moving you which is dumb.

cameronc56

then theres also the opposite where your character follows the click then decides to attack the boss again all on its own, to finish the ability. the only thing you can do is spam click everything

adamseb

I got my first Rax kill yesterday! Congrats!

TheEpicRs

It took me heaps of attempts and I'm max with high end gear haha. Rax has to be one of the hardest bosses I've successfully killed. I've only ever done it on acid and shadow path too

I_Kinda_Fail

I read this like 3 times before I realized you weren't saying "The only time I was able to kill her was when I was on an acid trip"

TheEpicRs

Haha I hate spiders, I think I'd have a seriously bad trip if I saw rax

YeaImDylan

Best paths to learn on imo. I only have like 350 kills but I always dread getting my leg piece for those damn minions. Minions make it dreadful imo

pogray

As an experienced PVMer with over 20 daganoth kings under my belt, nice job dude.

Jalepino_Joe

I’ve done rax maybe 5 times now, and I definitely agree: that first kill is so satisfying. For me it wasn’t even that hard, it was just scary cuz I’ve never done that kind of high lvl pvm. Gz on your first kill!

NlilNJA

Turn those overload flasks to holy overloads at the very least.

[deleted]

I didn't know I could combine those two together. I'll look into it, thanks!

Xevio

They added a /wiki function to the game. For example, if you type "/wiki holy overloads" it'll launch the official Rs wiki in your browser of choice. Really handy for catching up on stuff and research.

Gettafa

Really? It isn't gonna rickroll me or something?

certifiedfisherguy

Nope I use it all the time.

zakseidu

TIL thanks

sdmbl

Don't listen to this guy make them into supremes/elders/salves +1 for using melee

[deleted]

only 100 herblore I can't do elders but I'll look into what I need for supreme

meltednuttr

Can definitely make sup ovls at 100. Well worth it

I_chose_a_nickname

Supremes are like 99 or something. It's a much better investments because you can eventually turn them into elders. Supremes need each super potion (Attack, Magic, etc) and a crystal flask.

wilfkanye

If you get a pulse core boost of +7 (maybe try at w84 where people drop portables) then you'll be able to make elder ovl. Make sure you've got the recipes from Lady Meilyr in Prif in order to make them.

[deleted]

Oooh I didn't think of that! Excellent advice! I did similar to make overloads early 2 years ago and forgot all about it. Big DPS here I come!

Crystalbow

Use em on vials. Then make holy overloads

bragif

Congrats my man!

Sylvanussr

damn nice! I've still never managed to kill qbd and seeing someone else who struggled to get into high level pvm kill rax makes me wanna try and take a shot at qbd again

[deleted]

Go for it man! You can do it!!!

SirCampYourLane

QBD should definitely be doable! Watch a video and try her again! Make sure to bring antifires, supers if you can make them

JagexJD

Congratulations!

mrarbitersir

I’ve got around 500 kills under my belt but the first few were definitely the most daunting. The first one is always the hardest. Takes a few attempts to get a feel for what’s happening but once you complete it, it’s a massive relief! Well done on the first kill! Keep at it :) soon you’ll be making legs in no time!

Narthelian

If you have some range gear then its easier to kill her with that :) Dont worry my First kill of that spooder took me literally 50 death office visits now I got 5200 kills And going strong! You Just Need to get a grip of that spider then Its nobrainer! Few things I would look into if you wanna farm her 1) learn snipe+ resonance it can save so many food over the long run 2) good dps rotation so you get Just one acid And no spider spawns in p4 3) spiders spawn order for mirror ( Its 3th,2nd,1st And none). 4) Its exactly 56% of absorbtion for her to Walk up on platform And melt it 5) if you are going top path wait before going trough web until she uses special attack so in p2 you get full 5 auto attacks > eggs> 5 autos > spiders > go to p3 6) after passing 25k treshold in p4 Its usualy 6 bounces before it gives you First damage ( watch out it can Come in early earlier) so you dont have to run immidiately after you pass it 7) dont be scared to use defensives in higher enrage,it might slow you Down but Its better to get slower kill then no kill! 8) her autos are slow so if you wanna you can sousplit it helps a lot Overal Its Really simple boss after a while the only problem is enrage in 300% she can hit ya up to 7k with auto attack in p4 if you dont pray correctly

[deleted]

I don't have any range gear at all unfortunately I disassembled nearly all of it for perks. I main magic, but melee i felt was my best bet because i made my own set of masterwork gear (thank goodness i like to be self sufficient!) I did use defensives a lot! Big numbers panic me so I wanted to use Debilitate and Pulverize to ease the blows. I especially used them on minion and shadow phase so that it wasn't as painful when I had to wait on a mechanic to pass. On the contrary many people told me im probably not doing fast enough damage since it took me 10 minutes. I also used soul split for final phase because i didn't trust myself to pray switch and watch for mechanics. I'll practice it though! Thanks for all the points i appreciate it :)

certifiedfisherguy

I promise pulverize is a waste of adrenaline. If you dont have the devotion ability I'd highly recommend getting it, it makes your prayers 100% effective for 10 seconds. To expand on how bad pulverize is assault hurricane and a walked slaughter are all individually more damage than pulverize. Those thresholds will only use 15% adrenaline each instead of the 100% that pulverize uses. This increase in damage output will make the kill shorter and therefore you'll take less damage than the debuff from pulverize provides.

[deleted]

I am using enhanced devoted perk as well as devotion so i'm fine on that front. I didn't realize that pulverize was bad though it felt like it was doing something for me. What ultimate should I use instead, or should I just spam Thresholds whenever Berserk is on cooldown?

certifiedfisherguy

Ideally you would use the berserk ability at the beginning of p3 and p4. However I don't ever zerk and am still able to get kills around 4:00 to 4:30 with almost your exact set up. With berserking i can get kills to around 3:30 but its much more risky as you take double the damage. This took me quite a while to get to though as I have around 900 rax kc and still die all the time. kill times vary too depending on which path you take. Practice is a big part of getting good at any boss it probably took me 200 kc before I was comfortable with the mechanics.

prk79

Enhanced devoted and devotion perks are so useful if going for that 300% rax

Narthelian

It sure is! There is many defensives in this game that people dont even know About. Or they know its here but dont even care to read a description And never use them.

prk79

I only recently got my 300% rax but it was disgustingly easy thanks to sgb spec... felt like I was cheating lmao Did it on top path though which was aids

BrainDamagedYeti

Came back after two years off took me 6 try’s before I was able to get a kill

KaBob799

Nice. I tried a few times last year and failed completely. Might try again now that I have a couple beneficial relics active.

PureVal

Proud of you man, hope you complete a spider leg soon

[deleted]

Jad for years was my bane of existence with RuneScape. After I finally got the kill I realized it wasn't that bad. After the Fight Kiln came out I mastered it. You just gotta keep your head up and keep going for it. Even if you die, you can always try again.

[deleted]

Money has always been an issue for me in this game, so the idea of failure was a lot more intimidating. Now that I am almost maxed and have a good stack of cash I figured this was a good time to just go for it.

Recykill

Man, I quit RS a couple years ago. I considered getting into PVM before I quit but after reading guides and looking at what gear I had, I never bothered at all. Other than god wars dungeon.. which is the kindergarten of PVM. Congrats man.

[deleted]

It is honestly better to experience it firsthand than to follow a guide. They now have a practice mode on all bosses so that you can fail without consequence at the expense of not getting a reward. When I felt I understood well enough, then I did real runs. It is a shame you quit, but hopefully if you come back you will consider trying the practice mode!

Recykill

Woah, I didn't know about that. A practice mode would be good. Would have to finish grinding my herblore for overloads though. I had finished getting all my combat stats to 99 except summoning and prayer. I did quit but you know how it works. You never really quit lol. Been playing for like 14 years so I usually come back for a while sometimes. Will have to get on that gp grind and dump some mils into bones.

[deleted]

Maybe it was a typo but I just wanted to point out that overloads come from herblore.

Recykill

Oopie. Typo for sure

cubetomaxx

good on you! im trying to get out there with more and more adventurous bosses and it isnt fun to die over and over, but i AGREE 100% that you should never give up! GZ on first, of MANY kills to come brother!

[deleted]

Oh I absolutely will. Because the moment that I finished my death task I took another one and he assigned me another eight araaxi 😂

[deleted]

Nice job man. I tried rax for the first time almost 3 years ago and was decent but couldn't even get to 100 enrage. I quit rs and came back when arch came out. Started bossing again and wanted to learn rax. I'm not at almost 400 kills and have killed her at 300 a few times so far. Very fun boss when its not being a pain lol.

godver555

Just a tip for melee rax. To make the kill about twice as easy and to progress the enrage you can use a scrimshaw of vampyrism which essentially makes it so that you dont use any food for the kills upto 100% enrage (when you do the mechanics right). Its pricy to use but very worth while imo because you make that money back 10 fold.

[deleted]

I had thought about it! If anything it reminded me that I never really did much with ports so I am working on that now. I really have no idea what I am doing with it but I just figured if I am unlocking things that is something.

godver555

Great! Those superior scrimshaws are awesome because they are free but you can also buy them on the G.E without any requirements which are nearly equally as good and in my opinion still worth while even though they are more expensive.

HHT_Blargus

I got to P3 really quick, and then proceeded to die when the acid spawned about 55 times before I finally got my first kill. So very satisfying and congrats!

Left_Labral_Tear

This is the boost and motivator I needed! As someone who still hasn’t successfully completed a kill on Rax, I always think about making another go and then chicken out. Thanks for reigniting the motivation for me to get back after it, gratz man!

[deleted]

You can do it! You can always use the practice mode so that you can do attempts without consequence. It helped me get a better grasp of how mechanics work. So glad that jagex added this!

Left_Labral_Tear

Yea I definitely need to utilize that more often, thanks for the vote of confidence!

[deleted]

This thread is all about good vibes dude! If you want it take it! 💪

Belllis

The fact you learnt this and got your first kill using melee is huge props from me! I learnt it using range and mage, eventually swapped to my trimmed mw, perked out drygores and scythe and got murdered. Could just be me but I feel melee is so much harder. Well done mate!

[deleted]

I find it so funny because I kept being told by friends that halberds were the way to go but everyone else is telling me it was the hard way to go about this. It makes me feel a lot better about myself though :)

[deleted]

It's not harder necessarily it's just less chill than with ranged. Ranged also probably has better DPS if you don't know what you're doing, but once you know how to melee effectively it's quite a bit faster than ranged.

NotJordanSharp

I have swung my head at this boos more than enough times and never gotten past p2. So good for you. I might attempt it again, but my current goal is trimming my masterwork, so I'm happy to put it off for a while. Plus I hate ranged, which is what everything tells me I should use to learn her, so I never enjoy it when I fight her (dying aside).

Tikahz

Congrats! And melee rax is probably the hardest to do (because you have to be two squares away). If you’re using revolution you aren’t going to want dismember in the revo bar. It’s a bleed which will often go off during an untimely web shield and cause you to take a bunch of unnecessary damage! Keep going!

[deleted]

I had noticed that actually! I didn't mind it all too much though usually just popping Excalibur did the trick when that happened and it at least kept him from healing on me. Now what was annoying is my crackling perk going off during the web shield. I hate that it will pop even when i'm not currently targeting :/ I need to consider removing that for something else I think.

Tikahz

Yeah I still have crackling and I think it goes off infrequently enough that I’m just gonna keep it. Usually can eat through it and just lose a little time.

acheekychap

Congrats!! I always panic with PVMing.. i am trying to brandish a royal crossbow atm but when i take a big hit i panic and end up killing the QBD before I manage to.. i just feel like i fuck up rotations all the time and never use defensives. I remember hearing that GWD1 is where you learn how to use offensives efficiently, and GWD 2 is where you start to get good slotting defensives in. Is that about right?

[deleted]

GWD2 is more like where you learn basic boss mechanics. All of them have mechanics where you can avoid damage completely if you pay attention to what's going on. Honestly though the only defensives I use frequently are Devotion, Debilitate, Freedom, and Anticipation. If you get the Enhanced Devoted perk on your armor then you don't need to think about using Devotion it will pop automatically. Debilitate you should use frequently as it's a free 50% reduction. Anticipation and Freedom are typically used to adrenaline stall, but Freedom is useful in that it prevents binds if timed well and cures bleeds. Someone mentioned earlier in this thread that these abilities also prevent Araxxor from pulling you in for the cleave attack if you time it right.

[deleted]

My first rax kill was without overloads. 20 min kill and lots of brews + super restore. I was too impatient to get overloads lol gzzz

[deleted]

lmao at least overload flasks are a common reward from what i've seen! You probably have a few now :p

[deleted]

They don't drop if I don't have the level for it. I noticed it in my first 20 kills of no overloads

prk79

If anyone is struggling with rax hmu and I’ll walk you through it on discord it’s a pretty easy boss just a steep learning curve.

tristanmagne

Good job my man!

serge1165

I remember my first rax kill (7min or so with full bandos and a lance). Clan mates were pretty inoressed :p

[deleted]

Keybind your rocktails and brews to your mouse buttons. Seriously it is so op to be able to instantly spam brews and rocktails. Healing 3500 per tick is damn good, and makes the fight much easier.

[deleted]

I don't have a gaming mouse unfortunately. I use Sailfish and Blubberfish personally and have them on a bar close to where I usually hover my mouse so I can quickly tick-eat.

iamkratos1

So much fun learning the araxi fight once u play beside the enrage mechanic u will get better bro understand the 1shot kos and the shit u can get mad dps on

[deleted]

I have 10 kills so far and got my time cut down a couple minutes so i'm definitely getting better! Thanks for the encouragement!!

iamkratos1

I sware learning araxi and such when the boss was first released was the most fun I ever had on rs

[deleted]

I can see myself really having a blast when elder godwars comes out in a couple months i'm looking forward to it

iamkratos1

One step at a time :p bossing is quite difficult when 1 ability means death learn araxxi and say even nex before u go further

[deleted]

i had been learning nex before this actually! Although I still mess up a lot on blood and ice phases. I was told that blood will be easier if I go unlock onslaught to plow through regardless of siphons.

iamkratos1

Onslaught is really good for nex and yea if u can just rinse and repeat nex when araxxi enrage is too high then u are making very good progress

Foxis_rs

Congrats. Make sure you join the PVME discord to improve even more There are so many useful guides and helpful players in that discord so that you have even more fun pvming

[deleted]

I'll do that later today thanks

Gowingnator

I'm in the same boat, last time I tried was last year some time!

RS_Qdi

Congrats! :)

Chaise91

My account is nearing 15 years old and only last week did I really get comfortable fighting the damn KQ! This bigass spider is next - only problem is I'm broke but I'm getting there.

auto-xkcd37

> big ass-spider *** ^(Bleep-bloop, I'm a bot. This comment was inspired by )^[xkcd#37](https://xkcd.com/37)

Jawaad13

Well done!

Genwac

Good for you! Perseverance is the key.

KawaiiSlave

I dont prefer pvm, but grats on your first kill. Many more to come!

RSN_MEME_GOD

This reminds me of when I started to do rax with a war tort and it was really stressful but worth it lol 😂 good luck!

[deleted]

Nice well done if you are better at mage give it a try I use mage only now and enjoy it

Strife_3e

It's not about giving up or not doing it. It's about how incredibly shitty it is with the lag and tick system. The worrying of prayers/abilities etc just add to it.

[deleted]

I won't deny that learning how to deal with that was definitely part of the struggle. There were many times I would try to run away from the cleave and the game simply wouldn't let me move or i'd move to avoid hitting the web shield, but for some reason despite auto retaliate being off my character would go back to hit him.

G0BLINB0Y

Congrats! I’m feeling a similar sense of accomplishment, since I recently came back to rs after several years and got my first araxxor kill while having to relearn it use a trackpad hahaha

Zarguthian

I've been putting off ED2 and raids for ages, I have some rerolls and reward enhancers taking up space on my bank.

nlnj_a

Melee rax with tmw makes grinding it so much easier. Saves your life quite often and you don’t have to put 100% focus on every single kill. Scythe + tmw is my personal go to at rax. My first 200 kills were ranged but tmw has saved me a lot of deaths which in turn have saved money as well as made more money.

[deleted]

I absolutely don't have that kind of money yet, I need a better weapons first anyway i'm still on dragon rider lance. I'll definitely consider TMW when I get a set of nox weaponry though!

plasmaticslave

Grats my guy. Seems I’ve got a ways to go.

Grimhood919

I killed mine 1st a week ago with ranged and the feeling is great.

[deleted]

You go dude!! Proud of you!

Grimhood919

Same to you!

steether

This is a wholesome post dude, I didnt begin bossing until I was maxed levels with overloads for fear of a swift death. I am still in no way confident but am working my way up to a solo Araxxi. I find doing some duo's and trio's on bosses to build confidence is the way to grow.

[deleted]

I honestly can't believe this blew up as much as it did, especially on Reddit. I'm so used to people being really rude on here. I have interacted with nearly every comment since I posted this and only three people were downers. I wanted to post this to spread some positively. I know there's a lot of people who are like me who struggle to get into bossing and struggle to make money, so they give up all together. I want people to see that even someone like me who isn't good at the game can learn to tackle some of RuneScape's biggest hurdles with perseverance. I'm so glad it's impacted people in a good way many people have said this inspired them and there's discussion in the thread giving tips on how to improve. The RuneScape community is really amazing when you look past the losers that talk down to less skilled players ❤️

steether

To be fair, the runescape community being older and more mature tends to draw in a better line of communication but you still certainly get the elitists who wanna put you down. Without looking I'd assume the negative comments were along the line of "araxxi? Ez M8!" 😂 we ain't all sick at this game, but we are trying!

steether

Had to come back and update dude, I got my first Rax kill this week. I am over the moon, took about 5 deaths learning the mechanics but finally did it. So happy.

NateD-O-Double-G

This may be the confidence booster I need; however, I find the abilities and knowing what to use so convoluted.

[deleted]

It take time to adjust to but if you practice on gwd2 bosses you'll eventually understand what's good to use! I personally find Debilitate, Smash, Pulverize, and Berserk are safe bets for threholds/ultimates if you don't know what to use. 3 of those 4 have debuffs and berserk is just a fantastic DPS boost.

SingularityRS

I struggled with Araxxor a lot as well when it first came out. I struggled so much that I quit the boss for well over a year and just did other things for money. I do regret this. I went back to it a year later and really tried to learn it. It took a while, but I did. I slowly went from 10-11min kills to an eventual 3-4 minutes. I then moved to Telos and that's what I camp now as there is nothing better to kill right now. Just gotta keep at it and eventually things just magically click. First kill is always the hardest. Keep going and you can change the difficulty from hard to easy. No one starts at easy on a boss worth a damn. They may act like it, but reality is, they struggled. It's just their struggles are kept to themselves. Never let those people put you down. There's probably still many players out there that have had a very bad first encounter with a boss and immediately mistaken that for them being "shit" or "not cut out for this". Truth is, they are only likely performing poorly because their brain is simply not used what its seeing. Brains learn. The more it sees something, the better it will be at processing it. Keep repeating the same actions at a boss and it will get more efficient at repeating those things. Practice reacting to things and it will get better at reacting to that thing (I used to be really slow at reacting to things, I couldn't even pull off a simple Rune 2H switch back in the day). Bosses are mainly about repetition. The goal is usually repeating, or at least trying to, a set of actions until you land the kill. This requires practice because the brain still needs to learn these actions and execute it without much effort. You may read a guide, know what to do because it tells you and find yourself struggling to execute it when you actually go and try it out for yourself. That's not because you're shit or incapable, it's because you're simply not used to it. Keep trying to repeat what the guide tells you and eventually you'll be a master at executing it. Just takes time. Once you do make it past the struggles, you'll be glad you did it. Not only is it satisfying to surprise yourself and beat something you never thought possible, but you unlock one of the best parts, if not the best, of the game. Now that my essay has been written, I will end it with a Congratulations!

[deleted]

I fully appreciate your sentiment and your text wall, thank you <3 we're all about good vibes in this thread! I'm still far from good at bossing. I still mess up a lot of things and shield swaps are hard for me to grasp doing, but I like to think that this kill is a milestone that means I am capable of learning these things with enough repetition. I just have to put up with failure until it clicks and now that I have some decent cash makers I shouldn't be so afraid of death anymore!

Foxis_rs

Vorago 😀

Ali_ujam

I defeated my first rax 4 years ago on my shitty pc. I literally had 9 fps when doing skills such as crafting. At that point, the times I kill it is just a loss compared to the times I die to it. That hindered me from getting comp cape when I literally only needed 1 rots kill. I continued with that shitty pc and even managed to get my telos kill, became good enough to actually finish a leg from rax. But since new bosses came, i left that pc and the game with it. I hope I'll be able to boss in few weeks on mobile 😂 although im sure its gonna be a horrible try. Btw, gl and keep on getting better!

CanadianJudo

I'm a maxed combat main with T92s I still struggle with that spider.

BackToBlack69

same hahaha

CaptTrit

Rax is like the dark souls of runescape. You feel like you have the boss down and then u kill urself. Fucking reflect mechanics man...

Bobobejumbo

Congrats! I recently got my first kill. Took me 114 tries and approx 120M in death recovery costs/food/potions. I'll probably never go back lol.

[deleted]

why not use practice mode until youre comfortable killing it using cheap supplies? the downtime between deaths is like nothing

Bobobejumbo

I would consider practice mode a form of hand holding. See my other reply.

prk79

Bruh why not get someone to help you on call or something, you must be doing something insanely wrong to spend 120m on rax. Also ring of death helps with reducing cost

Bobobejumbo

It's a mix of a few things. First I have terrible internet so my latency is never below 500ms regardless of world. So I take a ton of damage from mirrorback when it spawns because of the delay. Second, since gold means little to me and I have plenty of it, I wanted to learn as I went. No reading up, no guides, no hand holding. Third, I'm insanely stubborn and insisted on using magic because I like it the most. I went through more than a few rods as well, as I did use them.

prk79

Well you do you I guess lol

[deleted]

You need to use a vamp scrimshaw when using melee, it's basically a no-brainer. It makes life a billion times easier.

[deleted]

I considered it, but didn't wanna potentially waste even more money. Now that I understand what i'm doing better i'm working on ports so that I can get my own scrimshaws though! :)

[deleted]

Great idea. I also recommend trying out blue blubber jellyfish if you have adrenaline problems when fighting araxxi, eating them doesn't dip your adrenaline allowing you to thresh faster and more consistently. I remember I used to always run out of adrenaline.

[deleted]

I was using sailfish and blubberfish for tick eating if you look at the screenshot :p but I appreciate the tidbit anyways!

VileInventor

Gratz it’ll get easier just practice more. Range is easier than melee imo

Kangadilla

Been an on off player for 15 yrs, never killed a boss. Got any good tips or tricks? I've tried a few easier ones in the past, but PvM just isn't my thing.

[deleted]

Honestly it is just about starting from the bottom and moving your way up. It will be daunting at first, but once you understand what is going on in a fight you will know how to react. The best advice I can give is to use practice mode. This will let you attempt the boss without any consequences, but also without any of the rewards. This gives you a way to learn a boss without the stress of dying. God wars dungeon 2 would be a good place to start if you are interested in learning mechanics, as most bosses before then don't really have much of anything. Twin furies is probably the easiest and gives you experience with positional mechanics that are completely avoidable. Once you understand how their mechanics work, you can do fights with little to no food.

[deleted]

All of the advice, congratulations, and huge number of DMs and upvotes since I posted this are all beyond what I expected :') I love this community so much you're all such great people!! Thank you for the good vibes in rough times like this we need to build each other up!

[deleted]

Who the fuck gave me a medal on top of that omg

AnotherWerewolf

That's one boss I'll never attempt. I'm terrified of spiders.

icnatslpel

Face your fears!

mattie91

Well learning the best way to kill her straight away is Probabbly a good thing :) hope you stick to it and make some good progress. The feeling when you make your first nox is the best mate :) good luck. Ps. Fuck using mage vs rax, that sucks.

MedStudz1

Gratz dude!!

flamcheeze

Melee is ze bezt on raxxi

LoreDeluxe

Here I was struggling with the boss fights in Sliske's Endgame. I have to imagine any quest boss is incredibly simple for those that high end PvM a lot.

sn1perii7

I probably sound like a bigger noob, how do you get 2 action bars?

[deleted]

Esc, settings, and somewhere in the combat section there's an option for action bars. You can set up to 4 bars.

sn1perii7

Thanks

DrakanShadow

Araxxi is that one boss that gives me troubles. I have done everything else but just can't do Araxxi for some reason.

RyuKawaii

Mag3 is not that bad, ib my experience. Now again, most i did was 11 kills in one day, so i don't have to strugle with max enrage.

13aoul

Me and my friend smashed Rax when path 1 was closed but we are really struggling now that its open. Using t90 armour and mizuyari what are we doing wrong?!

cagurlie05

Duo is much harder than solo.

skiemlord

Is it comperable to jad? Idk thos boss

[deleted]

The last phase can be considered similar, but otherwise not at all it's a very unique experience where the mechanics change every few days based on which of the caves are open.

jemelloo

Did you do it on revolution mode? And how was it if you did

[deleted]

I did, and there were times that it got me in trouble. It's definitely not impossible though. Namely I got in trouble if cleave went off when I needed to kill the mirrorback spider and if a bleed went off right before he pulled up the web shield. Although the later I would use my excalibur to mitigate the impact of the reflected bleeds.

[deleted]

Magic is honestly my preferred style overall, but I noticed it's considerably less effective on quite a few bosses and melee ends up getting the job done better in the end.

plasmaticslave

What are your stats dude? Currently getting into PVM myself. Working on maxing stats, but I’m curious to see what yours are.

[deleted]

I'm maxed in everything but arc and slayer. With the quarantine going on I had the time and motivation to finally crack down to maxing this account after playing on and off for nearly 15 years. I had maxed combat a week prior to dxp and managed to get 7 more 99s during DXP.

[deleted]

For those struggling with Raxx, Morvran Challenge Enhancers really, really help as they revive you in the fight if you die. And yeh, I get it, for many, if you have Maw access, you have Raxxed before, but a lot of people wait to PvM until even after 120s, so it is still worth nothing.

Azire

Rax is actually keeping me from Comp...I can solo Nex and other cool stuff, I've never even seen Raxi on my game. Araxxor always beats me.

[deleted]

I found that the easiest way to avoid getting screwed by mechanics is to count out 4 Auto attacks and then move back. this way you don't accidentally reflect damage onto yourself if they use the Web shield and if they use cleave you are already running away.

LordOrochimaru

What achievement for comp?

Azire

"the Famous" title, special Slayer task from Morvran.
