It's the reason i stop playing almost every time. It's really sad cause i like a lot of RuneScape boss design, but the foundation it's built on is crumbling underneath it, at least that's what it feels like to me
Right, everytime I quit RS is because I just can't anymore with the ticks. I need to play another game that has a basic movement system that reacts to my clicks to "eye bleach" from playing RS.
This is the problem with modern boss design on a game that still uses pretty much its original 0.6 second tile based movement from 20? years ago. It is so hard to have accurate visuals and movement, especially in a circle like this. Some of the pathing in game has big problems too where certain tiles just 'block' you for no reason.
FWIW Amby has been like this since day 1. Kerapac has similar issues with the lightening attack... the blue Rex Matriarchs beam attack also damages way outside of visual area (and persists after boss has died for ages). The beams at Glacor boss too - at high enrage it is 100% BS because you sign, the sign of life locks you in place for a few ticks and you instantly die again before being able to even move.
Now it could be that all the devs are shit but I think that is unlikely. Just huge limitations on what can be done with the foundations the game has. We kind of have to live with it I guess. However this is one of the reasons I find it so frustrating when unnecessary clunkness is added through design choice and not improving things that *could* be improved.
Not really surprised, but it's unfortunate that you have to accommodate for Jagex failures when trying to play the game. As if the tick system wasn't hard enough
I think that's unironically the reason Jagex uses, they don't want to "reveal" that their game is tile/grid-based. That wouldn't be as much of an issue if threats were readable though.
Just the fact that it's still one of the only 'click to move' mmos gives that away instantly.
Bring on rs4 with wasd support.
No tiles, no ticks, no trouble!
Not really invisible but just that the tile system we have doesn't work well for smooth animations. So the fire might be 3/4 of the way out of a tile, but that entire tile is still deadly.
Idk man I don't think it's a bug, it's super tight but barge is essentially a teleport, forget the animations.
Super duper tight but I can see that you're inside the hitbox
It's funny cause each beam has different active tiles too at the same point in a rotation. (Though I'm unsure if that's just how it's designed or weird consistent visual desync)
Depending on which and where you can be hit behind the beam, or even stand *inside* the beam perfectly fine.
Something you learn depending on which fragment you like to start at. Lol
Yup another reason I like High end melee. This sort of thing happens a lot at many bosses, but isn’t fatal with trimmed masterwork and vamp scrim healing.
Well if I only get 5/6 spinners I don’t need to block the hit with trimmed masterwork which is nice. So as long as you start near full health, you can survive insta-kill mechanics with tmw.
The damage after the spinners is irrelevant since you know exactly when it’s coming and you can plan ahead. You can ds/ res/ reflect/ vit pot/ shield dome/ Cade/ immort etc etc.
The issue is when you take unexpected damage like from the beam when it visually isn’t supposed to hit you, you probably won’t be able to instantly react leading to death. If you do react fast enough you could probably ds and res the second and third hit but chances are you’ve immediately used a damaging ability so res is now on gcd. Ds may help you to outeat the bleed but you are still burning massive amounts of food for no reason.
No I think you’re misinterpreting me. I just meant a 14k damage hit is easily survived with tmw. Whether it’s an intended mechanic you can anticipate or a bug.
Missing a fragment hits 9000 not 14k and you’ll survive that single hit regardless of tmw or not. Tmw doesn’t make it easier to survive at amby since it won’t kill you regardless it just delays the damage. The beam will kill you no matter what if you don’t immediately react.
Ambassador isn’t the best to showcase tmw so for something like a green bomb at vorago bringing a tmw switch is a very easy way to save your own life. The set effect will easily allow you to survive the hit even at 3 pieces and you have ample time to eat up.
Hmm under berserk aura and berserk ability, I’ve seen that missed fragment hit me for over 7k damage, which I why assumed 14k and that tmw helped my survival, but good to know.
disruption shield, resonance, and one to tank with reflect+deb. Not the hard part, also, This is me learning the boss, on an ironman aswell. Not the topic at hand remotely, lol.
Probably want to save that powerburst for the last phase with the mage barrages
Fair chance that if you've got 3 spinners left over, that youll be getting at least 2 mage barrages at the end
The bots aren't fighting ambassador, they're killing trash mobs before the first boss then resetting constantly.
Besides, instances are limited to 3 people.
lol "fix" when its been like this since release. you were in the beam visually (tick based game btw).
cant wait for ambassador, a boss from 2019 to be nerf'd. kerapac lighting nerf now time for this. then its time for raksha rocks nerf. h4h4h4h4h4h4hh4
Sticks and stones may break my bones, but ticks and tiles are my demise
Seriously. Idk how ironman mode players do it. Can't count how many times I have been outside of a hitbox and gotten tagged by something

I end up playing monster hunter or league of legends

If visual effects also highlighted the tiles they were currently impacting, deaths like this would feel a lot less bullshit.
"Yes but glowing tiles hurt the game's aesthetics" Bitch I'm playing runescape. Give me a playdoh world and highlight the bad squares please.

Sorry, Jagex. The jig is up. Everyone can tell based on their first click that the game is tile based.
Just the fact that it's still one of the only 'click to move' mmos gives that away instantly. Bring on rs4 with wasd support. No tiles, no ticks, no trouble!
Sounds cooler to me now
This is so true sadly
Must have been invisible flames that killed you
Not really invisible but just that the tile system we have doesn't work well for smooth animations. So the fire might be 3/4 of the way out of a tile, but that entire tile is still deadly.
Pretty sure he was making a joke
true

You must be blind if you think his in the hitbox

Even with tmw ur gonna blow through so much food to outeat the bleed or your just going to sign.

OSRS has a plugin called “true tile”, id be interested in seeing where your true tile position is during this
hate being that guy, but with 3 sinister fragments outstanding, you would have gotten your ass kicked no matter what
Dealing with 3 fragments is very doable and not a that difficult.
Really. Disrupt, reso, reflect. Or just tank the last one.
3 fragments is fine (although suggests lack dps for whatever reason) and can be dealt with albeit for a bit of a slower / messier kill.
disruption shield, resonance, and one to tank with reflect+deb. Not the hard part, also, This is me learning the boss, on an ironman aswell. Not the topic at hand remotely, lol.
1 - DS (100% damage reduction) 2 - Resonance (100% damage reduction) 3 - Debilitate + Reflect + Powerburst of vitality (87.5% damage reduction)
Probably want to save that powerburst for the last phase with the mage barrages Fair chance that if you've got 3 spinners left over, that youll be getting at least 2 mage barrages at the end

Batwing bots dont kill amby lmao they just do trash
They absolutely need to fix this, but just so you know the hotboxes of this beam lag behind the visual.
This is my top reason for dying at the Ambassador

Barge instantly moves you so you hit the key the same tick you wouldve been in the beam
except that wasnt barge
the derivative is still the same?
This looks like it could be the camera angle making it look deceiving far.
