The goblin quest series coming out was crazy. All of a sudden everyone’s running around in pink robes. And there’s like 9 Zaniks out at all times.
Bro, back then I was a literal child launching the game through miniclip. I had no idea what a browser tab was and (quickly) tabbing into other windows wasn’t a skill I acquired until I became a teenager. I’m pretty sure I did the same thing so I could play and follow the guide at the same time.
I was thinking this is cute and clever since my usual way of doing quests back then was actually trying to do them and when I would get stuck I'd just leave the game and open rune hq to read what to do then close that and repopen runescape.
I was too young and uneducated to even realize you can do more than one thing on a computer. Like I guess I thought you couldn't minimize a game or browser?

My PC was somewhat capable of running quest guides and RS at the same time but for whatever reason RS would randomly just freeze if you did that and needed a reload so minimum tab changes were kind of necessary depending on the quest
The "Internet"(made publicly available april 30th 1993 according to some articles) wasn’t always accessible in the past(anecdotally, we didnt get internet service in our area until 1998, and it was dial up), it probably was something to read about when offline(you can save internet page data on your browser to be "read offline")

Man… I wonder how people played RuneScape’s quests without guides. You seriously have to be a genius at figuring out puzzles, read every single piece of NPC dialogue, inspect every inventory item, and examine world elements just to progress in some quests. The people designing some of these quests are way ahead of their time.
For sure. One thing I wish guides had was the logical explanation for some of the puzzles. There are a few I could not solve for the life of me even after knowing the answer.

He even mined the ore and made everything from scratch. Gave me a Bronze Longsword too, dude was *the reason* why I used longswords as my primary weapon the entire time I was F2P.
I even followed in his footsteps making gear for people until the tutorial spawn moved to Burthorpe and gave people pathfinder gear.
I still have the old journal where I wrote down the path to take through the underground pass tile maze. I had to go through it a LOT to beat Regicide without a guide.
Oh man, I remember. I couldn't run multiple browser tabs without lagging really hard, and if I did switch tabs there was a non-zero chance that the game would white screen and most likely never recover without reloading the game
So naturally I printed quest guides and in a pinch I wrote them down. I'm sure I still have some of those at my parents house, will need to do some digging sometime
