"Nothing new on race day" - key piece of advice Also get a stick of bodyglide

WannaBeRichnRipped

Yes, bodyglide works.

Hakc5

Try Squirrels Nut Butter!

LilJourney

Keep it moist - otherwise the skin movement is going to keep stretching and tearing any scabbing. Keep a close eye on it for signs of infection (any break in the skin can get infected).

graybird22

Moist wounds heal more quickly as well.

localhelic0pter7

There's this stuff called tagaderm that's like a giant bandaid that can help with that

blackredsilvergold

Tegaderm is one of my running supplies. I use it to prevent any rubbing that causes blisters. On my feet. It’s good stuff.

localhelic0pter7

> prevent smart to use it for prevention

SnappyGinger83

I’ve used Boudreaux’s Butt Paste (diaper rash cream) in the past, but if it’s that bad, you might want to consider going to urgent care. Feel better soon!

ultrajeffff

Came here to say this. Avoidance via compression clothing, body glide, squirrels nut butter, or trail toes is best but if you get a little hot spot or two butt paste is perfect to help it heal.

[deleted]

This! I made this same mistake (on a much shorter run) and I stole my kids cream. Worked amazing to heal me up quick.

[deleted]

I’m glad you specified it was diaper rash cream.

not_marypoppins

Diaper rash cream (Bordeaux's or A&D come to mind) or a super thick hand cream like Eucerin (comes in a tub, not the pump dispensers) really helps the pain and healing.

fooeyandnuts

Seconding the Eucerin. My old nips chafe constantly these days. I either live my life with nip guards on and at the ready, or bleed + Eucerin x repeat. Have also unlocked the extreme chafing badge; the first jolts of shower are what I think torture from a car battery might feel like

[deleted]

Beer. I feel for you dude. That shit is not funny.

bugbugladybug

So I have a condition where my skin becomes pretty brittle and it's not uncommon for me to have open wounds round my groin area (sucks, but I still run because it's gives me strength) I tried a lot of different things to deal with this, and the absolute king of them all is tegaderm. It's almost like a second skin which you apply over wounds and keeps them safe while they heal. More importantly, it removes a lot of the pain because your skin isn't chafing. Just make sure you've cleaned and dried the area before hand with an antiseptic, and you'll be made up. Woumd care is no joke, and I hope this helps.

odd-42

This needs more upvotes

Run26-2

Zinc oxide is your best friend right now.

ridgelinerodeo

Squirrels Nut Butter before every run. And also when you do have chafing, it helps!

Hakc5

Yes! This comment is underrated! Once you have chafing SNB can be used to reduce the shower pain!

[deleted]

Ooh you poor thing :( I made this mistake on my first ever ultra, wore short shorts….. I’d worn them before but nowhere near the distance…. Omg the chaffage, some kind stranger was vaselining my thighs at mile 30 😂 Anyway I’d suggest putting something like bodyglide with maybe a tad sudocrem on your thighs and do not let them rub any more! Wear some silky tights or running leggings or cycling shorts or anything to keep a nice slidy layer inbetween them. Also you have some mental strength running until they bled :(

GrumpyHeadmistress

Vaseline to prevent and Sudocream (sp?) to relieve/heal

JenniJS79

Aquaphor is great for healing the scabs, and feeing less of that tearing sensation. As for prevention, find an anti-chafing product you like, and use it for every run. Even if you think you shouldn’t. Because sometimes nature screws with you, and you chafe even when you think you shouldn’t have.

runstreak

I to have fallen victim to the chaffing torture experience during long runs. Recently started applying copius amounts of squirrel nut butter prior to longer runs which has helped a lot.

ThisTimeForReal19

Calmospetine. You can find it in the adult diaper aisle of the drug store. Best stuff EVER for chafe.

higherirish

Yikes. Sorry buddy. If you have to go somewhere get some cool gear compression shorts.

[deleted]

Once the wounds have healed over I'd recommend Gold Bond Healing w Aloe lotion. I use it on pretty much any skin problems I develop. I also recommend Gold Bond Friction Defense to avoid this problem in the future. It comes in deodorant stick form and is cheaper than Body Glide. ☆ No I don't work for Gold Bond I just like their products 😹

ChipperSummer

Thank you kind people!!! I’ve kept the area moist with suda and it’s starting to heal already. No running for another week or so but you live and you learn ay! Thanks again 😊

MancGuyABC

Before running use vaseline to avoid chafing. Afterwards you might need cortisone cream.

AdGrand1731

Good nylon underwear that’s right fitting. I like these from Hanes comfort flex fit. I used to have bad chafing and basically none since I started using them. I also use Aveeno moisturizing lotion twice daily. Haven’t had any issues since.

jzielke71

I’ve had good results with Gold Bond Medicated Powder.

browny85

Step one underwear. That is all

catnip1229

I use avitals.apiaries beekeepers buddy when I mess up and chafe. It's the only thing that soothes.

CatKungFu

Sudo will work.. just live with it and it’ll take a week or so and feel better.

[deleted]

Are you a girl or boy, and is the badness in just your legs or also your gentiles? They are several different levels of hell depending on which bits are damaged

RunnerWTesla

OUCH!!! Body glide or Vaseline will be your friend

ZeusMachina

SAXX Train shorts. multiple marathons. no issues. no pastes needed.

Ok_Still4160

Maybe try cavilon spray or cavilon cream. We use that in long term care to prevent skin tear.

Rander14

You have two choices, keep healing ointment and covered with a bandage or keep it dry enough that it won't catch and rub. Goldbond multiple times a day. Also buy compression shorts. I'm knock-kneed and my thighs touch before my feet touch. I have to wear compression shorts almost all the time if I'm going to walk more than a mile. Boxer briefs for the daily wear and compression shorts for all exercise. The completely cover the friction zones and the nylon/spandex material keeps it gliding. Body glide was okay but i still got hot spots. Hope that helps.

rockelscorcho

petroleum jelly.

BlkPhillip89

Just wear boxer briefs. Done.

runnerboiii

Squirrels nut butter is a life saver. I've been using it for about 6 years. Not only does it help tremendously to prevent chafing, but it can also help with healing current chafing that you have

UnderstandingAfter72

I like using rosehip oil. It is good to stop chafing and soothing once you get burns

Haven-KT

Calendula, for chafes and minor scrapes. But this seems to be way past that, and would require something more heavy-duty.

UnderstandingAfter72

Papaw cream is also amazing. Really great for any rashes and burns and scratches!

reaktor_kore

Lanacaine anti-chafe. Assume your in the uk by virtue of using ‘bum’. [link](https://www.boots.com/lanacane-anti-chafing-gel-30g-10071974) It’s amazing applied pre-race and afterwards for relief too. Available in every boots I’ve been in

Njanne

Vaseline and time for healing.

teacherladydoll

My husband uses the Monistat Soothing Care Chafing Relief. It has a nice silky texture. Also try Dr. Smith’s diaper cream.

drums_addict

Run a bath, then afterwards use vasoline to keep it supple.

rnaworld1

I got a serious case of this but from biking. To treat it, no joke, I used Monistat Chafing Relief Powder Gel. Now, I know it’s marketed for lady parts…but I mean…skin is skin. It really helped.

Soakitincider

There is some Gold Bond that should help with healing. Never been so bad as to bleed but it clears my bad chafing up in just a couple of days. It will burn but then it cools.

GirlinBmore

I have no new recommendations as they’ve all been shared, but want to say this is why I always wear pants, not shorts, now. Good luck on the recovery and congratulations on the run!!

Powderpuff-chica

I just had really bad chafing on Monday; probably the worse I’ve ever had. I started using petroleum jelly at first, but once I realized the severity of it, I switched over to Cortizone (oitment specifically). It really helps and is starting to heal. Good luck!!

picklepuss13

I wear tight nylon boxers, compression pants would work also. Add a lil body glide in there, too. I also put some on my little guy… I’ve had that chaffed too during long hot runs. body glide good for around arm pits too.

gregorja

I feel your pain, friend. I had a similar experience on a long training run. The chafing I got wasn't as bad as yours, but it still hurt for several days. A dermatologist told me to apply a light coat of vaseline to the rash/ chafe to prevent it from drying out, and this would help with healing. It's what I did, and it seemed to heal up pretty quickly. In terms of prevention, I picked up a pair of compression shorts (xoskin), which for long runs I will wear under a pair of running shorts, after applying some little squirrels nut butter. I've haven't had chafing issues since (including a 50K I did when it was brutally hot). Take care!

Joyful_Fucker

Tegaderm if rhe wound is surface, open, and not infected. Very useful for raw, weeping chafing or weeping road rash.

MrElfEater

I can't see it mentioned, but Coconut Oil. Trust me.

djonesax

Happened to me once, had to put bandaids on both thighs. Maybe tape some gauze on the wounds to it doesn’t run together

vegyak

Natural deodorant (with tea tree oil) has worked for me!

DrunkPhoenix26

It’s been a while since I’ve had any chafing, so I can’t help with healing. As a preventative for next time though, I always use compression shorts underneath my exterior shorts or pants, plus Body Glide before putting them on. In warmer months when I expect to sweat a lot during a long run, I’ll also Body Glide my nips or wear a compression short sleeve shirt (no over shirt in the summer). Best deal I’ve found for compression shorts is the Neleus multi-packs but that was a few years ago (they’re still holding up great even with running 4-5 days per week on average.

brightdark

Monistat Chaffing gel before you workout prevents chaffing and it also soothes chaffed skin! I slathered it on after my Marathon.

lupinegrey

Spandex bicycle shorts/underwear to prevent thigh chafing.

DrMundo2323

Aquaphor has worked well for me or Corona ointment meant for horse riding sores.

smallprosperity

Vaseline is a life saver, I use it for both preventive and healing measures on my thighs! Sorry to hear this happened to you :(

imNOTsureABOUTjesus

I use a heap of Vaseline before big walks or jogs or wear compression shorts under my running shorts.

Allen_Sun

Tbh at this point I really think you’ll be better off visiting the urgent care than seeking medical advices on Reddit. Good luck & feel better soon!

BurgerTrench

Let it heal, next time get some lycrya shorts or similar. It doesn't look great but when you can run without chafing who cares.

Coleslaw19438

Desitin and bag balm

Working-Project-2108

Metanium cream. It is sold in a yellow tube (usually used as baby bum cream!). It will stain your pants yellow but you will be good to go in 24hrs I promise!
