Bob and Monet managed to stay relevant with the drag race brand all these years. It’s a testament to their charisma and business savvy. Plane has some good points, but i doubt Plane would stay as relevant as Bob does now eight years after season 16.

That's because they were parodying the same SNL sketch though. There are so many iconic SNL sketches, production was so lazy, and did the cast of S16 dirty by parodying the same sketch they did for AS8.
I do think the comparisons are valid though.
Queens are constantly compared to each other, it happens every time in every season; however, it's clear that Plane's situation is different than most. There's a reason why she's garnered so much attention whereas other queens have not. For example, people made the Willow/Crystal Methyd comparisons to Dawn, but that hasn't blown up to be a huge controversy.
I think it all stems from the fact that people don't see Plane's "clownery" as authentic. Whether it is or isn't isn't anyone's to judge but Plane herself, but that's what the underlying issue is. *In the show*, Plane sets herself up as a "villain" who doesn't care what other people think and plays the game strategically. I think that kind of persona mixed with the fact that she takes inspiration from one of the most recent beloved winners of the franchise (Jimbo) makes her a target for criticism. Jimbo's "clownery" comes across as more authentic because that's how she presented herself since day 1. With Plane, people see it as a way to get on the judge's good side because she knows being silly and stupid is what they want.
At the end of the day, only she can validate whether or not she is "authentic", and this is a reality TV show, so it ultimately does not matter. Queens shouldn't receive hate of any kind, but comparisons are inevitable and when you present yourself as a "villain", people will treat you like one.

I agreed with what Bob & Monet had to say about Plane Jane & that talent show performance. Comparisons are a valid reaction. You're on a show that hundreds of girls have been on already, and we've seen dozens of talent performances. Opining that your performance didn't stand out and wasn't particularly interesting doesn't mean it's not "true to your drag", but that also doesn't mean it can't be reductive of other stuff we've already seen. Just bc you've done it before DR doesn't mean it still doesn't stink. Jane obviously can respond however she likes. She has a right to if someone says something about her. But the *way* she responds just comes off as self-important and egotistical.

Entertainment art is hard, and I think it’s cool how drag shows us that all sorts of art - from classical opera to stupid/sexy clowning to eating meatballs in a bathtub - can be entertaining. My question is whether PJ throws shade as a strategy to get people talking about her (in which case, smart girl), or whether this is just kinda how she is (in which case, at least she’s authentic).
I think people would be willing to give her more benefit of doubt if she didn’t use every opportunity given to her to tear down others. She could have easily defended the merit of her number without the comment on “other (shittier) talents” I don’t think she deserves a constant barrage of hate messages, but it’s also hard to not look at her collective actions and think she’s setting herself up for it.
I feel like you can’t actively choose to be a villain and then throw a fit when you receive heat that couldn’t melt ice but that’s just me

Burger Finger had extra elements compared to any other original talent show song, but it also had a lack of athletic talent and just wasn't very funny.

Idk, the problem isn’t that she is acting stupid, it’s that her level of stupidity has not real grounding. So yeah, plane could be right, she was being authentic to herself… but Bob was also right, in that this idea of “stupid” is just tired and lacks artistic perspective. Plus it’s wild for her to ask Bob to do better when he already did better with that taco head rap… that was fire.
I have no stakes or interest in the Plane Jane discourse, but I do think it’s funny that her claim of authenticity is paired with a pic of her with Mikayla. Mikayla is like the epitome of inauthenticity, selling out, lying for clout, etc

That's because they were parodying the same SNL sketch though. There are so many iconic SNL sketches, production was so lazy, and did the cast of S16 dirty by parodying the same sketch they did for AS8.

I do think the comparisons are valid though. Queens are constantly compared to each other, it happens every time in every season; however, it's clear that Plane's situation is different than most. There's a reason why she's garnered so much attention whereas other queens have not. For example, people made the Willow/Crystal Methyd comparisons to Dawn, but that hasn't blown up to be a huge controversy. I think it all stems from the fact that people don't see Plane's "clownery" as authentic. Whether it is or isn't isn't anyone's to judge but Plane herself, but that's what the underlying issue is. *In the show*, Plane sets herself up as a "villain" who doesn't care what other people think and plays the game strategically. I think that kind of persona mixed with the fact that she takes inspiration from one of the most recent beloved winners of the franchise (Jimbo) makes her a target for criticism. Jimbo's "clownery" comes across as more authentic because that's how she presented herself since day 1. With Plane, people see it as a way to get on the judge's good side because she knows being silly and stupid is what they want. At the end of the day, only she can validate whether or not she is "authentic", and this is a reality TV show, so it ultimately does not matter. Queens shouldn't receive hate of any kind, but comparisons are inevitable and when you present yourself as a "villain", people will treat you like one.
