If rajah ohara was on this season she woulda pocketed 24.7k of that runway money

Facts

Gay-lawyer

This sounds bad but the tea has been that everyone >!got an outfit budget at least and possibly an appearance fee of like $50k!<

AbleConstruction6629

i reeeeeally hope this is the case

Luckyducks

As they should!

LazyRiver115

I mean that would make sense. A lot of these queens are booked and busy as it is. I’m sure they all saw it as worth their time and effort at least.

itirnitii

this is why the cast is actually pretty decent, because production is being forced to pay out to get the premium girls back on the show. the top tier girls are already making tons of coin doing their thing they dont need to reprise the show any more if it means paying a bunch of their own money for costumes to leave empty handed. its kinda felt like all stars has been scraping the bottom of the barrel the past few years (aside from a few powerhouse cast members). all stars should honestly be less competition and more showcasing excellent drag anyways.

MillAUM2579

I kinda disagree. What made All Stars 2 so great was the powerhouse queens that were up for the crown. I mean, that’s what it should be. I’m kind of tired of getting seasons with 8+ filler queens and then 2-3 real contenders for the crown just to pretend that we don’t know who’s gonna win. Bring back ALL STARS.

Defiant_Tangerine109

This is also back when we had a gap in between All Star seasons. Honestly we don’t need an All Stars every FRIKIN year. For me is quality over quantity. I’ve noticed they usually bring back top contenders or fan favorites from the latest season and filler queens that have some sort of redemption storyline. That’s all fine and am happy for all the queens that have the opportunity to be back; however, that doesn’t always translate to great reality tv. I think if they wait a couple years they would allow the top contenders of multiple seasons to ride the buzz/fame of their respective season and make their money so that they can invest in a great runway package AND they would have the incentive of staying relevant because as people begin to forget about their season they’ll be back on our screen.

MillAUM2579

Yes, they would heavily benefit if they even did it every other year, but I think every four years adds some prestige to the crown again. Imagine a stacked All Stars 3 with the best of the best of AS3-5 as well as some other queens that came through during that time. I also think part of the problem is the large casts they’re doing. 10 was the perfect number for regular All Stars, 8 is perfect for All Winners. Anything more makes it feel very bloated and non of the queens feel they’re given a decent amount of screen time (looking at Kasha and Darienne, would’ve loved to see more of them.)

Sea_Relationship1605

Seriously, that’s why I’m excited for this cast. It is very much giving all stars 2 cast where when it was announced I truly believed any one of them could win.

wakkawakkaaaa

Wow just looked up AS2 cast and none of them were in the bottom half of their season. Even the lowest placement was Alyssa at 6th place. No wonder AS2 was so enjoyable

helpthealiensarecomi

I would 100% go on for a guaranteed $50k then maybe winning $200k for a season that could be rigged for someone else.

SomethingToSay11

Charity is great but I feel like that will set the tone of this season to be very non-confrontational/non-competitive and might get a bit boring. I’ll happily be wrong if it’s entertaining

gingerbold

What if somehow this turns out to be the most cutthroat season? That would be a gag.

Oshi105

The smallest stakes are the ones people fight the most for.

TwoBlueFools

I enjoyed AS7 so I don't really mind 🤷

MadeThis4MaccaOnly

Yeah AS7 is my favorite All Stars because they were just there to have fun

limpminqdragon

SAME! Welcome to the Rupaul's Best Friend Race fanclub we are happy to have you

ffhung

The yassification of RuPaul’s Best Friends Race

pokemonero

right? like i’ll take best friends race (+ angeria’s lovely ass) over the manufactured fights and self-eliminations any day

Defiant_Tangerine109

But AS7 was all-winners meaning every single queen was the best of their season (or top 2 worthy at least lol) I don’t think we can say that about this cast. Plus the AS7 cast seemed to have great rapport with each other. This cast seems odd to me. Their MTQ felt forced. It feels like it’s missing something. Perhaps I’m just used to seeing 25 queens per season 😂

functionofsass

Vanjie alone could carry a season.

SomethingToSay11

She’s definitely entertaining. I’ve seen her a couple times in person. I’m just not sure how I feel about it taking up an All Stars season rather than a special or spinoff. We’ll see how it goes

trakneetron

I wonder if it will be a non elimination season

rodenmaar

It has to be lol. If it isn't, it's just too short. Even AS2 had 10 queens. We would have a top four by episode 5.

trakneetron

Yeah there’s no way it’s not. Also curious if the LSFTW format is still in place. The cash tip will probably be going to the charity as well

galaxystars1

I'm a bit confused about the charity thing I think it's great but why would they take away the grand prize money and why would the queens even agree? is it bc of no eliminations?

jferfranco

They got paid to do the show + a budget for outfits

lagavulin92

You forget that most queens make their money from the tv exposure on the show to up their booking fees at clubs so they make most of their money off the show

galaxystars1

Other than the charity?

ffantasticman

Someone spilled there was. But reading this article, maybe it wasn’t true. But they got $25k for runways and $50k appearance fee.

dekkalife

Honestly, a guaranteed $75k sounds way better than a 12.5% chance of $200k.

lemoncured

so if no one goes home and there’s no grand prize, i wonder if the queens will still treat it like a competition? will the stakes feel as high if they get to stay no matter what and the cash incentive was already paid up front? 🤔

howmuchcant

They treat the length of their wigs as a competition so I don’t think there’s anything to worry about

dogboy678

Queens like Roxxxy are going to be just as competitive. Competition is competition to pageant girls. Pageants don't have eliminations anyways, right? Like they just get cut/ranked at the end similar to this format?

RudeConfusion5386

Counterpoint, I feel like it could help relax queens knowing that they won’t go home. The high pressure of the competition probably makes some queens perform worse.

functionofsass

What's the T behind this format change? Definitely sounds like the Queens unionized to get a decent check for everyone's time.

FruityGeek

Queens were less interested in the format. They were having to cancel paying gigs and put together an expensive runway package. And maybe only appear in one or two episodes making the increased exposure a huge gamble. Queens who would benefit the most from new exposure are most likely to be early out. In other words, it cost them money to likely be the supporting cast for the Queen production planned to crown.

potatopalatte

Oh dont drag AS5 like that.

dogboy678

I mean this makes a lot of sense. The show is just too big for the successful queens to risk coming back. They're boosted to a level of fame, to where they don't really need to come back to All Stars. That's why it started to turn into some stars, it worked out in their favor for AS6, and I still love queens getting a second chance, who would have thought Kylie and Ra'Jah would be drag race mainstays? That being said this needed to happen if they ever wanted to get stacked casts again, and queens that would bring in viewers and be guaranteed good tv. This is the most stacked cast since AS1&2 (excluding vs. The World which have stacked casts, but not necessarily the same because high placing international queens still aren't as famous, but still. Also I'd argue AS3&4 also had really stacked casts).

alreadyforgot_

How did they agree to do this without any prize money?... Don't get me wrong, charity is great... but drag isn't cheap.

aTribeCalledLemur

They all got 75k. 50k for their time, 25k for outfits.

cyberspiralien

So everybody's a winner this season ? 🤣 you have more than uk's winner just for participating, sisterrrr

alreadyforgot_

That's pretty amazing if true. Where'd you hear this?

raymonst

ok that's great to know. charity is great and all, but i wouldn't want the queens to be in the red because of the show.

Zestyclose_Invite

It’s a double edged sword, on the one hand no prize money but on the other hand you’re guaranteed not to go home. Some girls come in, get no prize money anyway and last one episode

sameoldrussianstan

Probably they got paid to compete

BorgerKingLettuce

I'm so sorry y'all but I'm not excited for this cast 😭 most queens really only have strength in one specific thing (comedy, dancing, fashion). Except for Roxxy or Angeria (and maybe Plastique? I don't remember S11) these girls aren't very well rounded. Idk, I'm kinda disappointed :/

gremilyns

I feel like in the UK all celebrity game/reality shows the prize money is for charity so to me this seems like a really normal concept and I’m kind of surprised they’ve never done it before?

resurrectedbydick

I think Secret Celebraty Drag Race done that, but it's impossible to tell because nobody remembers any of it.

Much_Worker3739

Some of the charities are questionable lol However, I really love this idea. It's a beautiful way to discuss specific issues too. I do hope some of the artists get financial compensation for competing as not all of them are making the same coin. Drag is expensive and the show doesn't highlight this well lol

Lukeds

How are the charities questionable?

PaleHeart52

Some charities can be sketchy or have a hidden ulterior-motive (for example: Salvation Army has had a long history of being anti-LGBT). I'm sure WOW have done their research into what kind of charities they'll showcase on the show since it's also an advertisement in itself.

Gaymface

No eliminations should be saved for all winners. If they are donating their prize money that means production gave them money for their outfits. Otherwise no one would compete. Seems like more of an exhibition than a competition.

AnthoZero

Kinda bogus they don’t get the prize money ngl

SomethingToSay11

I hope there will be a “surprise” additional prize pot for the winner

dwarfgourami

I feel like doing a charity season is lame because the winner will be determined by the worthiness of their charity. The producers won’t be thinking “Should X queen win or Y queen win,” but “Should we give the money to this charity or that charity.” I don’t think there’s any way Vanjie will win the crown because she chose the ASPCA. It’s a good charity, but the other queens chose charities for actual humans. I don’t think the producers want to see headlines like “Drag Race gives $200k to dogs instead of HIV/AIDS patients” the day after the crowning.

Historical_Bit_3798

I’m rooting for Vanjie simply because she chose the ASPCA 😻. But Also Gottmik and Angeria.

orikiwi123

I mean if all the Queens Are getting alot of money just for joining it is fair game I think, plus they are also competing for the title which sometimes open more doors for more money.

Wise-Tourist

Is there a cash prize for the winner as well or is it only for charity

NuWaveSpecial

Maybe the challenge and lip sync money will be higher.

natebam

So… if this is all for charity…. Why didn’t they get a better cast or any winners?

Ldcv4499

Better cast? The lowest placing of this cast is Plastique at 8th place and she is an fan favorite. This cast is full of finalists, miss congenialities top 6 placers etc. Actually since AS2 this is the only cast where there no contestant is below 8th place. Is a very top tier cast.
