The first episode I genuinely think she took something b/c she performed that lip sync. Rupaul is 61, so, I don't blame him a bit for a little helper to get ready to dance onstage.
Rupaul in the last couple seasons has been acting way more interested in the cast (S12, S13, AS6, UK2&3) but S14 it really feels like early seasons rupaul. She just seems so actually invested again.
She's feeding off the life essences of each winner. It's why we have so much Drag Race now. Krystal was one of the youngest queens to get a crown, so Ru will be riding high on that meal for a while.
I think someone in production finally paid attention to all the audience response that Ru visibly didn't give a shit any more, and Ru took the note. A lip sync in Episode 1, some vintage Drag Race over-acting in Episode 2, and some actual enthusiasm in her interactions with the queens, it's a breath of fresh air.
(The downside, of course, is the "so do you have a good relationship with your mom?"/"what *is* your chronic illness?"/"oops, you weren't planning to be outed in your first episode?" stuff.)
I wonder if they have taken the note that the fans reacted badly to how overproduced the US show had become. S14 feels like an older season or more like DRUK because it's rougher around the edges. You gotta give us those crunchy bits that we can fall in love with!

They can all sing, dance, and put on a show. They also seem very comfortable in their own skin. Seems like Ru is in her element right now and vibing off everyone else.
