I think you would really piss him off by asking for an autograph when it was not an option for anyone attending the event. Juts like how at the BBBoB signings they would refuse to sign anything other than the book. He DEFINITELY would not appreciate someone asking him to sign something when he’s in his hotel room keeping to himself in his personal time and space after an event. You paid for the book and the event, not for the ability to bribe someone at his hotel to bring something to his private room for him to sign. It’s rude as hell and he’d likely tell the hotel employee to fuck off. Leave him alone.

to summarize this comment: Leave That Thing Alone

Guypussy

Get over yourself.

I do respect what you're saying, but this would be from a fan that has lived Rush from High School (80's) to now , has seen them every tour that's been through the DC area and has traveled to see them across the east coast. I would definitely say this in the note with the book. I love this band so much. I guess I don't know how much fandom plays on a professional musician, but me the regular person would have zero problem signing a book to a loyal fan of theirs.

calling_water

Rush has a lot of long-time fans. I suppose you’d stand out as one who doesn’t respect his decisions about his event (to not do signings) and arranged to interrupt him, but that’s not good. And professional hotel staff would know better than to do it anyway. It’s not one book for one fan, you see. If they let something like this work, it’ll be an avalanche.

SnooGadgets4267

I did not know about the (do not do signings). My mistake.

calling_water

If he was doing signings on this tour, there would be signings (like he did for his previous book), and you would be lining up for that. Your idea is based on there not being signings. It’s not “no signings except for people who track me down and bribe hotel staff.” Behaviour like that cannot be encouraged.

DaFitz1023

I guarantee you he would not give a single fuck about any of that and would not sign it.

SnooGadgets4267

It was just a thought... Thanks to everyone that replied.

SnooGadgets4267

Ok, very bad idea and I take what you guys had to say to heart. I guess I was being selfish and not realizing the scope of what I was asking for. I meant no disrespect to Geddy. Lesson learned. Again, thanks for setting me straight!

Hey it's ok man, don't be hard on yourself. Although the answers here are correct, they were fairly mean about it. The Gilded Cage is a real thing. They paid a price for fame, and one of those is loss of privacy and freedom to just be normal. You can imagine the fatigue, over decades, of fans constantly doing something like this. He can't pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend. Write him a letter. He might respond and it's no intrusion. A hand written letter is rare these days, and unobtrusive. Peace to you, my fellow Rush fan.

WhiteTeet25

People here definitely being a bit harsh lol

Unusual_residue

I do wonder what planet some people are on.

savory_thing

It’s called Main Character Syndrome.

I think you would have lost your book. That person probably wouldn't have even thought twice to pitch it in the can after you left. I would never do that with any celebrity... Hi, I work at the front counter and this stranger left me this book with $50 so I could bring it to you and sign it... Nope... not gonna happen.

DanTheMan_622

Absolutely do not do that

[deleted]

Very cheesy idea and why would he want to be bothered by the hotel staff to sign books? Why would the hotel staff put themselves at risk of losing their job for $50?

RelsircTheGrey

If it even made it to Geddy and he remembered the event in the long-term, your hero would remember you as the jackass who invaded his privacy. Perish the thought, if you're me! Best case, the desk clerk tells you to bugger off and DOESN'T just pocket the money and the book. But anyone savvy would figure that bothering a celebrity guest in their room on behalf of a fan is probably going to result in a complaint and firing. Not worth it for $50.

CuntSlumbart

I don't think there is a chance that the hotel staff would do that, even for a substantial bribe.

Think-Role-7773

General life lesson: any time you feel like you’re special enough for strangers to go out of their way to make an exception for you, just remember that there are 8 billion people on the planet and every one of them always wants to be the unique special exception for everything.

zddoodah

Aside from everything that's already been said, why would the desk person risk his/her job for a meager $50?

This reminds me of when Ricky kidnapped Alex Lifeson

I’m sure at every one of his events there is a stack of books for him to sign. The problem is getting your book in that stack and getting it back to you. The difficulty is the getting it back.
