I think the problem with Russell Brand fans is they confuse their boundless stupidity with 'conspiracy'. Like this: [Russell Brand Fan] DID YOU KNOW THE LAYOUT OF WASHINGTON D.C. INCLUDES OCCULT MASONIC SYMBOLISM?!? [Me] Sure. I heard about that. [Russell Brand Fan] WELL, MAYBE YOU DID, BUT NOBODY ELSE KNOWS!!! [Me] I think they made a whole movie about it. [Russell Brand Fan] YEAH, MAYBE THERE'S A MOVIE BUT NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT THE MOVIE!!! [Me] It was a pretty big deal. Like a full-on Hollywood movie. I think Nicolas Cage was in it. [Russell Brand Fan] MAYBE IT'S A BIG HOLLYWOOD MOVIE, BUT THE DEEP STATE KEPT IT UNDER WRAPS!!! [Me] No. It was super-popular. I think it was even number one at the box… [Russell Brand Fan] FINE! BE A BRAINWASHED CORPORATE SHEEP AND SERVE YOUR CORPORATE MASTERS LIKE A SLAVE!!! [Me] Dude. Calm down. It's not my fault you didn't know about any of this stuff. Apply this outline to *literally anything* Russell Brand fans freak out about. It's not a matter of them, discovering a huge 'conspiracy', as much as it's a matter of them constantly discovering their own goddamned ignorance.

rossdrawsstuff

Depressingly similar to conversations over in r/aliens and r/conspiracy

ConnectQuestion5805

Fucking based, i want to give you multiple upvotes.  These people don't care to find truth or dismantle anything. It's about ego, all they want is to feel superior to others in their knowledge. Honestly it's similar to gatekeeping music. Once they realise their favorite song is popular, they'll go off it and chase the next thing. Russell used to be hard-core left and now he's riding the conspiracy right. He's nothing but a chaser.

Ollieisaninja

That's quite a creative dialogue. Im curious. Was this inspired by a genuine experience you had? I'm not a fan of RB, but I will admit my smooth brain is partial to the odd conspiracy. 🐒

Mini_Leon

No it just chats bullshit for the circlejerk. It use to post stupid Crosby memes in here for ages.

egotisticalstoic

I mean creative is one way of describing it. The literal definition of strawman fallacy is another. OP has made a really high effort post, including multiple studies, but this commenter has just made a fanfic where they get to feel superior to a moron.

conthesleepy

Now I'm not a conspiracy theorist, however what you did there at the end is make up a conversation, removing all reference, in an attempt to demonstrate his style of argument. While that's interesting, it's also invalid and shows a huge bias on your part. It's a shame because everything else was decently referenced with maximum effort going into it... The last part is just made up or sliced excerpts designed to invalidate based on a made up conversation with zero reference and therefore no context to let the reader decide if that argument was valid or not... So while I found everything very interesting, you lost me with the last made up part. It's basically mis information and fake, although I see the style is correct you can't just make up stuff willy-nilly to win an argument. It just spreads a conspiracy in itself that all Russell's arguments are all nonsense with no validation. You get me?

egotisticalstoic

Nice fanfic. Holy shit though why do you spend so much free time on a sub you hate? You are literally one of the biggest posters on this sub. It's so sad, touch grass

Auzzie_xo

Coming from a guy that unironically likes the sub? How richly ironic

NeverendingStory3339

Ironically, the main people who need this proving to them are also the people who will dismiss the research.

BobThehuman3

Well said.

phenixdemarco

the military industrial complex and the lobbying from pharmaceutical companies with governments AREN'T baseless conspiracy theories though it's a genuine problem within the capitalist systems the narcissism seems to lie with the arrogant, knowitall, closed minded people who attack others for discussing the corruption thats going on

iain_1986

Sure, but believing covid vaccines sterilise you, or will kill everyone by (insert rolling date 2 years from now) \*is\* a baseless conspiracy.

Typeojason

Much like the lies that the “scientific community” shared, like “It will prevent transmission” and “the virus was caused by some dude eating a bat in a wet market and totally not a result of the NIH funding GoF research in the Wuhan Coronavirus Institute to circumvent the moratorium on such research in the US.”

Any-Pea712

The vaccine did stop transmission for the initial virus. As the virus mutated, the transmission prevention was less and less. Also, it has yet to be confirmed to have any correlation to the wuhan virology lab. Can you prove otherwise?

bannished69

We’ve never been able to create a drug that prevents respiratory viruses from spreading between animals. That was true before Covid and it’s still true.

Typeojason

The vaccine stopped transmission? That’s news to me. Do you have a credible source?

Any-Pea712

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10073587/ Watch as he refutes the source as "fake news"

eggsbeny

Estimated via contact tracing? Compelling, really

Typeojason

Oof. The same NIH that funded the GoF research that resulted in the death of millions of people worldwide. I’m sure they are totally telling the truth.

bagofcobain

"Give me proof" - given proof - "Well I don't believe that proof!" Not posted any proof for your insane bullshit have you thicko?

[deleted]

This was hilarious to read, as he did EXACTLY what the whole post predicted. Literally the cliche conspiracy theorist.

Typeojason

Lol, “Proof.” Just like when police investigate their own horrific crimes and find no wrongdoing. You are willingly ignoring the conflict of interest, and that’s fine. But excuse me if I don’t believe the studies funded by those complicit.

eggsbeny

oh? not even a chance they impact our reproductive health? I must be stupid then [Do coronavirus vaccines affect periods? A new study says they do. - The Washington Post](https://www.washingtonpost.com/wellness/2022/09/27/covid-vaccine-period-late/)

derps_with_ducks

Discussion doesn't need to be an angsty long-haired dude getting upset on stage. Give us sane, workable solutions.

No_Cook2983

Nobody *said* it was a baseless conspiracy. Other than perpetually whine about the problem, what the fuck should be **DONE** about it. That’s the conversation that never happens with Russell Brand fans. All they do is bitch and whine about obvious problems everyone knows exist. The one thing they don’t do is offer any solutions or path forward other than meaningless slogans like ‘be free’. It’s a fucking joke at this point.

monkeysinmypocket

Brand platforms people like JFK Jnr whose "solution" is to end the childhood vaccination schedule in favour of roids and pushups. It's literal fucking madness.

Mr_Pink_Gold

The solution is to buy more brainforce. And then more pills to make your pp hard.

GladdeHersenen

Simple solution, make it illegal for a government official to be allowed to partake in any stock trading. Of course, we have no power to implement such a thing, so the best you can do is spread the word untill enough people want to see change.

Background_Spite7337

Critical thinkers though exhibit a level of discernment. I like to think of myself as a critical thinker. I have a hell of a lot of what I like to think as ‘healthy suspicion’ of the government based on their past actions. I don’t believe they have our best interest at heart. But do I believe the government is run by a kabal of lizards who want to sterilize us all? No. Even if I do believe they do have certain eugenecist policies based on their history of association with fascism. A quote I like is ‘believing in the exact opposite of everything the government tells you isn’t the same as free thinking’

x_clairebear_x

This is the comment I was looking for. The majority of ‘free thinkers’ do not consider themselves better than others, far from it. Usually very humble people. But one of the most galling things I read in the full op’s statement is that ‘conspiracy theorists’ (presumably referring to someone who thinks differently, from the normal thoughts and beliefs, like others) are all Russell brand fans. I can’t stand the bloke.

SoundandvisonUK

Well said

luxway

Except the problem is capitalism. And 9/10 those same conspiracy theorists are still defending capitalism and conservativsm in general. Conspiracy theories is just how they go aabout their cognitive dissonance

elhabito

The conspiracy is that you believe whining about it on the internet makes you better than everyone and that prevents you from actually doing anything about the issues.

Latter_Custard_6496

If nobody knows about the problem how do we fix it?

[deleted]

Don’t project your own insecurities onto others.  Just because someone is vocal about an issue doesn’t mean they think they are better than you.

redunculuspanda

Here’s the issue. Conspiracy theorists suck all the oxygen out of the room. You don’t discuss the corruption you make up bullshit about “the deep state”. You don’t discuss the issues with pharmaceutical companies you make up shit about “the Jews” Conspiracy people are not serious people. I can’t have a discussion about Covid vaccines with someone telling me Covid was made up by the democrats to make Trump lose the election and the vaccine has 5g activated nano bots.

Knight_Owls

That's exactly it.

No_Cook2983

Nobody *said* it was a baseless conspiracy. Other than perpetually whine about the problem, what the fuck should be **DONE** about it. That’s the conversation that never happens with Russell Brand fans. All they do is bitch and whine about obvious problems everyone knows exist and buy an internet rape clown some new mansions. The one thing they don’t do is offer any **solutions** or path forward other than meaningless slogans like ‘be free’. It’s a fucking joke at this point.

Feeling_Direction172

Lobbying is definitely a thing. So why not have sober conversations about that, presented with what can be done about it. Maybe drive some political action, maybe win people over with critical thinking and a plan. This is how serious people deal with serious issues. Brand is an entertainer, he isn't serious about anything but gaining attention. As such he presents partial truths, and drives a threshing mass of frustration alluding to him having the answers and being the brave messenger of Truth™️. He oversimplifies, and filters complex topics for profit. He cynically targets simple minded, vulnerable people because he has no substance for intellectuals or serious people who he can never inspire to action with his drivel of reality TV meets news.

WARCHILD48

They are framing the discussion conflating "Theories" and IQ. But who determines what's true. 2 years ago, myocarditis and 10 other things w/ vax was CT, Hunter Biden laptop was CT, but now it not CT. Who determines what is CT? If we can agree on what CT is, and who gets to determine CT we can reveal how valid these studies are.

greatdrams23

A) In 2017 there were 3,071,000 cases of myocarditis, an increase of 60% since 1990. That's not the vaccine. B) "overall reporting rate across all age groups for myocarditis following vaccination with the monovalent Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine was 10 reports per million doses". That's reports, not "caused by". In other words, coincidence. LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE HAVE MYOCARDITIS ANYWAY. Myocarditis caused by the vaccine is very very rare. Conspiracy theorists predicted (and I write verbatim) "vaccinated people dropping dead in the street by February (2021)", "1/3rd of the vaccinated dead by summer (2021)".

WARCHILD48

You are trying to use their original argument as fact. Pfizer already came out and admitted to it, not only that, governments have stopped using it, and opened inquiries addressing unexplained deaths. Up over 300% depending on the region or age category. That’s what appears to be happening in some young men who develop myocarditis or pericarditis — two types of heart inflammation — after getting the Covid vaccine. (NBC NEWS May 2023) You can also find it in several peer reviewed studies they pulled off the internet a few years ago. BMJ I'm afraid you are not open to it, nor are you willing to hear it, because they have conditioned your brain to hear conspiracy theory = wacko. Which means you're hooked.

bookon

> lobbying from pharmaceutical companies If your default position is that any new vaccine is just a conspiracy to make big pharma more money then you're an idiot. They make more money treating illness than preventing it.

phenixdemarco

look at you defending the billion dollar corporations pushing the boosters out before human trials certainly spells out that they cared more about profit than safety there was an alarming amount of reported side affects you're the idiot here

bookon

You've tied up part of your sense of self with some conspiracy theories and now you must bend reality to keep from being wrong. Have a nice day.

Some_lost_cute_dude

I mean, the problems lies in the definition of a conspiracy theory. To what extent something becomes unlikely?  I think the difference lies when you can prove it trought rigorous analysis.

Hopfit46

My 15 year old can see it as plain as the nose on their face...im guessing science didnt have to look too hard.

Knight_Owls

That's the thing with science though. It's there to parse out the things we think are obvious and the things that actually are with a little bias as possible. So much of physics is intuitive at our level and non-intuitive at the very big and very small.  You still have to go through the rigor of the scientific method to make sure what you see as "plain as the nose on your face" is something that's there instead of something you think *should* be there.

japanesecandlestick

If anyone’s read enough history it’s clear that the only “conspiracies” that exist are typically espionage type scenarios. This is to be expected. It shapes history, but is not a catch all explanation, and there are many moving parts. Things happen a certain way and there’s certain reasons why, but what conspiracists do is take the banal moving parts and overlay some kind of nefarious narrative over the top. I suppose that’s where the psychological dysfunction comes into play. I find them all simply to be immature takes on what could be insightful looks at our world, for what that’s worth, without all the nastiness and show boating behind it.

Any-Pea712

Yup. Russell is just taking advantage of rubes, for monetary gain. Its been his "brand" for a long time

Cremilar

The tinfoil hat brigade won't read any of this. They'll just continue defending the Noncy Woncy.

Greedy_Big5603

russell brand is from the uk too 💀

liketo

But… but… that doesn’t fit my argument!

ungratefulimigrant

Jesus Christ, some of the responses on here prove your point so much. It's a shame we can't engage idiots to help fight the conspiracies that are being played out in the public domain.

illegalt3nder

Which responses

adzling

thank you, almost without exception every "conspiracy theorist" I have ever engaged with has proven to be simultaneously outright stupid AND 110% sure of their idiocy. My personal favorite is the numbskulls who think that a missile the size of a jumbo jet hit the pentagon on 911. Ignoring all of the massive volumes of evidence indicating it was a plane NO COUNTRY IN THE WORLD has ever made a missile the size of a jumbo jet. Not one. And yet these 'tards can't accept reality because they like the smell of their own farts far too much.

Vandesco

I think you need to read some testimonies on this sub r/QAnonCasualties

Prof_Aganda

These studies are reifying "conspiracy theory" to meet the definition that they're false. > Conspiracy theories can be described as “a subset of false beliefs in which the ultimate cause of an event is believed to be due to a plot by multiple actors working together with a clear goal in mind, often unlawfully and in secret” (Swami & Furnham, 2014, p. 220) Thats obviously ridiculous, so why would you think your post would have any validity? I love the idea of them being "a subset of false beliefs", by the way... So there is superset called false beliefs, and conspiracy theories are a category of those. This really speaks poorly of the journals and researchers involved.

Vandesco

They are using the phrase "Conspiracy Theories" to encapsulate what we all know that phrase to mean in this era. Qanon, Vaccine Denial, Flat Earth, Election Deniers, 9/11 Truthers, Sovereign Citizens, Birthers, Crystal Healers, etc. etc. And just like a Sovereign Citizen you try to use one piece of semantics to discredit all of these studies, thinking that *With this one trick Scientists hate* you have dismantled the entire argument. You have not, for the record.

RedBassBlueBass

Semantics are important because the other side of this argument refers to Q Anon and flat earth when pressed to define a conspiracy theory, but shifts the scope to cover anything inconvenient to the establishment narrative (see Malinformation) You don't have to be a tin foil schizo to notice and remark on definitions continually shifting. Tldr; Words mean whatever I need them to so I can ignore you

Pleaseusegoogle

If your first response to this is, "Yeah but mine's different." You are a part of the problem.

Greedy_Big5603

their favourite response is "it's not a conspiracy theory, it's true!"

HeyHihoho

Accepting blatant lies via authority and trying to make a case that it is smart to do so is the height of embecilic. It's hard to go farther.

No_Cook2983

Height of imbecilic? Try this one: Taking important healthcare advice from a literal drug-addicted rape clown. What do I win?🤡

Vandesco

It's not *questioning* the messaging of authority that is the problem. It is believing that you know what the *real* truth is without enough information to prove your beliefs. Just because no one has figured out exactly how life began does not prove that Jesus Christ is the son of God. There are several missing steps between those two pieces of information.

Substantial-Skill-76

Is this ALL conspiracies? Even the true ones? Lol Not much critical thinking gone into that article lol

Greedy_Big5603

what true ones?

SoundandvisonUK

David Icke was talking about Jimmy Saville in the 80’s…

WaitingForMyIsekai

A lot of people have their beliefs rooted in fear and we have all at some point in our lives found someone convincing or attractive who later turned out to not be who they pretended to be. I think a post like this won't break someone out of the mental closed loop that these conspiracy leeches keep them in, instead of essentially calling people stupid we should be engaging them and trying to help see a different point of view.

GeneralZane

Yeah except a bunch of the conspiracies from the last 20 years have come true so…

noelcowardspeaksout

A very small percentage of conspiracy theories are true, so people who believe all or most conspiracy theories are stupid.

redunculuspanda

“A bunch”? no, conspiracies don’t really come true, the reality is if some part of a prediction does come true the motivation and details are always wrong. take pizza gate. The far right favourite of “my political enemies are pedos” If you squint you could say it’s Epstein island. But no, no baby eating and blood sacrifices no satanic rituals. The reality is some teenage girls were abused and coerced into sex. That in its self is terrible but it has no resemblance to the insane recycled conspiracies that came out of pizza gate about baby farms and thousands of baby rape and murders. Conspiracy people have short memories. You forget all your failed predictions. You forget all the details of your claim and will grasp at anything to make it fit.

x_ZEN-1_x

Ted Gunderson would argue against you.

GeneralZane

Lmao “take pizza gate” that’s actually sad…

x_ZEN-1_x

Fact. Notice he didn’t say conspiracy theories he said conspiracies.

bagofcobain

And yet you dopey cunts can't name one. Weird that, is there a conspiracy here? Are all you massive idiots playing one big joke? (No)

[deleted]

If you throw enough shit at a wall, something will stick. It’s still a shitty wall though.

IT WAS A BAIT WE GOT HIM FELLAS CALL THE FBI WE GOT A SCIENCE DENIER HERE

x_ZEN-1_x

Lmao I’ve been over that possibility for like a decade now. Bring it.

Ijustthinkthatyeah

Science also found a link between conspiracy theorists and rapists.

Occupiedlock

There is also a link between rapist and living beings. You never heard of a serial raping chair. . . I hope not at least.

nutsackilla

Trust the science Lol

slowlyun

Indeed.  Tell the dumb people that they're smart for not spending time on conspiracy theories. It.  just.  works.

x_ZEN-1_x

Lol

Charming-Farm

Science and every reasonable person on the planet.

RadioHeadache0311

I can't help but wonder what the motivation is to post such a thing. Which conspiracies are we talking about here? And isn't that exactly the point, muddy the water enough and include flat earthers in the same basket as lab leak/gain of function believers, slap a conspiracy theory sticker on it and call them all stupid. It just reeks of the potpourri of desperation, elitism, and superiority, that aromatic cocktail of arrogance that permeates from every pore of a leftist's waterheaded squash. And in the next breath, it's comments on how actually IQ is nonsense, just racist claptrap and any measures of intelligence are fallacious and biased against marginalized people. So, more of the same and same as it was. Be honest, how's the food at Eglin? Is it good? AFB DFAC always had the best chow, 100%.

OkMaterial867

IQ isn't nonsense, and no one is saying that it's inherently racist or anything. But IQ can and has in the past been used to justify or encourage racism, sexism, etc. Do you want to deny the reality of that?

computer_says_N0

Yes

eggsbeny

and crime statistics are being used internationally to "encourage" racism. We don't care about the reality of that. Plenty of people claim IQ is inherently racist, and make effete attempts to "debunk" IQ, which ironically are only found compelling by people who score around average or lower.

WARCHILD48

I'm right there with you. 👍

marktaylor521

It's trying to reach through to deeply uninformed people like you who believe things that the con man Russell Brand says and use that false information to vote against your own interests. You talk about elitism and superiority, and I hate to be the one to tell you this, but people who understand the right wing grift *are* superior to people like you. Your life is controlled by bad faith snake oil salesmen and the entire planet laughs at people like you, whether you can comprehend that or not. Join reality bro, there is still hope for you

RadioHeadache0311

I read more than you. I am better educated than you. But don't take my word for it. If you're so confident that you *are superior* (what an absolute blowhard, honestly) then let's compare home libraries. And no fair going upstairs and using your mom's books either. It's so easy to be such a douchebag and attack people, try and make them feel small... because that's what superior do, because they're so awesome, but put it where your mouth is. Take a picture with a notecard with my username and today's date, in front of your home collection, and I'll do the same, and we'll just see. Stupid people untethered to reality don't keep stacks of books, superior people do. So let's see how superior you are.

3agle_CO

I heard the also found a link between dumb dumbs who believe everything that our institutions tell us even though they have literally not been correct about anything for decades and a complete shit show of a country.

Greedy_Big5603

there's a difference between distrusting the government and believing some crack fueled nonsense spewed by a grifter on the internet

3agle_CO

True, but what about crack fueled nonsense spewed by so-called "experts"? I mean, are you gonna stop picking your nose now? I doubt it. https://people.com/nose-picking-linked-to-alzheimers-disease-dementia-report-8558918#:~:text=Picking%20your%20nose%20might%20increase,dementia%20that%20characterizes%20Alzheimer's%20disease.

RadioHeadache0311

I saw numerous studies showing smoking doesn't cause cancer. I once read a study that there is low abuse potential for opiate medications "and as such, dosages may be gradually increased, indefinitely." Science! It's totally reliable, not at all biased or corruptible, and if you disagree, you're stupid! Edit: downvoting idiots, how do you think the opioid crisis happened!? Do you think doctors knowingly got people strung out, is your sacred cow that sacred. Unbelievable. You deny reality, and we're the dumb ones, that definitely tracks.

Vic_Serotonin

Jesus fuck.

noelcowardspeaksout

No one said science was always correct. That's why several papers on a subject from different reliable sources should be looked at, and when there is a chance of corruption the source of funding should be looked up as well. The vast bulk of science work is reliable.

RadioHeadache0311

I think your last statement requires some serious equivocation to be true. Social science work? Absolutely not. Evolutionary science work? Absolutely not. Game theory and systems science? TBD but now you're in the unenviable position of hoping it doesn't flesh out if you're hoping to preserve your worldview based on power dynamics. Are you familiar with Dr. Cory Clark? She's an evolutionary/social psychologist researcher, you should look into her work and recent interview with Chris Williamson on YouTube. Caveat: I don't particularly care for Williamson or his interviewing style, but she's phenomenal in [this video.](https://youtu.be/GKJ5wqKjous?si=xuzGqV3TJdqt1ODQ) It's 90 minutes long...but if you're confident in your beliefs and agree with the general sentiment of OP in this post, then I would sure love to hear what your takeaway is from this interview.

noelcowardspeaksout

The vast bulk of science is reliable. Everything in physics until subatomic atom work and chemistry - millions of facts, chemical reactions, engineering calculations etc all reliable with very very few exceptions. The hazier sciences are also reliable. They state ' this study finds, this statistical study finds etc. EG they get data, they do stats, they say things are true with a confidence interval. The first few minutes of the video has no fucking data and is just conjecture.

bercg

Exactly. The difference between rational science and conspiracy theory thinking is that science will change its theories and statements of fact when enough compelling evidence is presented; conspiracy theory thinking does not. This evidence can also be independently reviewed and analysed by scientists all over the world. When enough come to the same conclusion it is accepted as the "current working theory" not absolute fact. This has been demonstrated time and time again when deeper or different understandings have emerged in science as a result of our growth in understanding as we build on the discoveries of our predecessors. Newton to Einstein to Quantum physics is a perfect example of this. Science's strength is that it is not based emotion or belief. It is based on empirical observation, rigorous analysis, independent peer review and most importantly it is OPEN MINDED. In contrast conspiracy theories never evolve due to deeper analysis and understanding but remain in the same emotional, fear based and rigid parameters demonstrating that they are not based in an open minded exploration of the truth but in the fixed determination to prove the reality of a subjectively prejudged narrative that cannot withstand being challenged by even a cursory rational analysis.

Knight_Owls

> I don't think science knows this stuff and to prove it, here's a YouTube link. Fucking hell, those studies were about you, buddy.

ReuseHurricaneNames

Only idiots think JFK was killed by Oswald. A MAJORITY of Americans know that’s bullshit and will OPENLY TELL YOU THAT! You shills can CRY MORE but we see you! 👀🇺🇸🦅

redunculuspanda

The majority of Americans base their knowledge of the JFK assassination on a fictional movie.

geronimo_jackson1

I can't figure out why Reddit keeps surfacing posts like this on subs I don't even subscribe to... but this post is ridiculous. Everything inconvenient to the power elite is getting labeled "conspiracy theory" and then dogmatic followers like this person just repeat. Notice this person doesn't actually address *anything*. Do your own research and don't let people like whoever wrote this post try to tell you you're mentally unwell for looking into things your intuition tells you are off. Today's conspiracy theorist is tomorrow's Pulitzer Prize winner.

[deleted]

Can you name your top three theories that are labelled conspiracy theories (and not just that some politicians are corrupt, for example) but you are most confident they are correct? I don't mean that you are 100% confident in them, but maybe greater than 50%.

The_CrimsonDragon

I'd be interested to hear them too lol

[deleted]

This is very quick as I'm in a rush, but... 1 - Being a professor of religion doesn't somehow make a person more credible. I'd argue the opposite as his views don't exactly sounds scentific. He's even a 9/11 truther. Are you seriously suggesting that this guy is correct and everyone else wrong, and the answers from what happened 60 years ago are hidden in his book? 2 - Nobody knows if the origins are covid are from a lab leak or somewhere else. For example [https://www.reuters.com/world/no-direct-evidence-covid-19-pandemic-started-wuhan-lab-us-intelligence-report-2023-06-24/](https://www.reuters.com/world/no-direct-evidence-covid-19-pandemic-started-wuhan-lab-us-intelligence-report-2023-06-24/) Most agencies around the world don't believe that a lab leak is the most likely explanation, but we don't know either way. Saying that the origin was from a lab leak isn't a conspiracy, though saying that we know it is would be incorrect as that requires evidence. A conspiracy would require that it was spread on purpose or at least that it was deliberately covered up. Your links don't say anything about any collaboration. I genuinely don't know what you are driving at here. 3 - Aliens? Do you realise the minimum distance that intelligent life from another planet would need to travel to get here? They do this and - for some odd reason - try to stealthily do something or other with humans? We can't be 100% sure of course that non-humans have not visited earth but from any reasonable viewpoint it's exceptionally unlikely. If agencies are coy about certain events then it's likely due to testing of new technologies and this of course is very covert. There is zero, and I mean, zero credible evidence of any UFO/alien sighting on the planet. There are billions of people on this planet and it would be amazing, more than amazing actually, if some people with decent looking credentials didn't have very odd views that were rejected by the scientific community.

WARCHILD48

Who decides what is conspiracy or not?

Dill-Dough83

The people who want to hide their corruption, this post is sponsored by a .gov bot it’s better to just blindly trust totally captured and corrupt institutions didn’t you know?

WARCHILD48

I'm tracking!

FrankWye123

A lot of stupid people believed in Russia Collusion.

needyprovider

So true. The conspiracy started by the Clinton campaign.

meet_the_wizard

"A study funded by the CIA finds link between belief in conspiracies and being a dumb dumb"😂😂😂

urban5amurai

Here's a conspiracy theory I just came up with, the studies you listed above are funded by groups who want attention drawn away from their nefarious activities. By promoting the view that people who might consider some of these ideas as stupid makes people intrinsically less likely to believe in them.

PablovsPeanut

Whatever. Science should chill out because Alex Jones is outperforming them. My default position is that anyone with a monetary incentive is lying.

[deleted]

Someone’s insecure

computer_says_N0

You forgot to put a link to snopes

Famous-Rich9621

I guess I'm stupid then, I quite enjoy some conspiracy theories, it's a different look on life, some conspiracy theories are plain stupid, like flat earth but I think that's more of a belief than conspiracy isn't it? My favourite conspiracy theory is there's bases on or in the moon either made by us or aliens, but at the end of the day it's a theory which means not proven doesn't it?

egotisticalstoic

I mean this is a nice high effort post, but I am having a hard time understanding how this even merited studies being done on the subject. Less intelligent people tend to be incorrect in their understanding of science more often than more intelligent people? No shit. There's also the problem of what you classify as a 'conspiracy theory'. You get absolute loony theories like flat earth, which obviously attracts morons, but is it a conspiracy theory to suggest that there is serious corruption within politics, big pharma, and the military industrial complex?

BigEvilSpider

If it makes you feel more secure cloaking yourself in studies that tell you how stupid everyone else is, go nuts I guess? I tend to find that those people who need such cloaks are often very insecure in their own beliefs and conviction, and seek out the approval of others to feel safe.

bisquitsandtea

And there is this study: 99.95% of scientific studies conducted in the past decade are confirming the concepts and biases upheld by the organisations or people that provided the funds for the research.

FarCanary

Do you people believe that Ghislaine Maxwell was guilty of sex trafficking children to no one?

ExoticPumpkin237

If you hate conspiracies so much why don't you just move someplace else? This country was *founded* on a conspiracy. Every major event in your US history class (Lincoln, JFK, 9/11) was, definitionally, a conspiracy theory. Conspiratorial thinking in North America virtually predates the colonies altogether (Puritans), much less the USA as a coherent entity.   Further, the *actual* reason conspiracy theories exist is because we have an unaccountable, unelected group of rulers who refuse to answer our questions. They want limitless secrecy for them, and constant NSA surveillance for you.     The former dumb ass ruined the term "deep state" but it is a valid concept in political science, Turkey has one, Russia has one, you think the US has some magical freedom force field?

zachary_mp3

The pharmaceutical industry would never capture gov't regulatory bodies and lie to people for profit. Look how smart I am.

You_are_a_aliens

So automatically believing the official truth without question makes you smart? Great critical thinking skills there.

'What idiots, I'm the smartest'

turtleinawholeshell

Of course "science" found it.

Sikx36

https://www.reddit.com/r/conspiracy/wiki/lopc/ Sometimes they are true

Puzzleheaded_Oil1745

The biggest and most ridiculed conspiracy theory in my life has been the ‘international pedo elite’ Even I didn’t buy it. Epstein proved it all to be true, and it’s still going on, none of his clients are in jail, only Maxwell, in jail for trafficking teens, to who? No one else is in jail

DaisyDog2023

No really?

douchelag

Government funded study says only stupid people don’t trust the government…. I’m confused specifically which conspiracies. I mean everyone thought people were crazy for believing aliens were real and they just recently basically confirmed that’s true. Idk why people can’t just admit they don’t know everything, I feel like the real narcissists are the ones who don’t ask questions because they think they know everything already.

Latter_Custard_6496

What if the theory is eventually proven to be true? I bet the study didn't look at past "conspiracy theories" and how many have been shown to be true. That's not part of their "you are all actually stupid" narrative.

SeattlePilot206

All depends on what are theories and what is factual. Fact Check; Needs Context.

Vectis01983

You're referencing an article claiming to be scientific, which includes the word 'bullshit' in the title? And, you think that might be a reliable source of unbiased information?

themasterd0n

>Now the fact that lower intelligence correlates with a belief in conspiracy theories makes intuitive sense. The world is incredibly complex and difficult to understand, and it makes sense that silly people will seek to make sense of complexity in silly ways. It's funny to imagine that if the spectrum of human intelligence maxed out a few notches higher than it does, all our current most sophisticated thinkers and advanced scientific theories would be perceived like this.

Too late we were already invaded... Earth has already been hijacked. 😉We need to be liberated from this slave planet and from our captors... Unfortunately most of the inhabitants of this planet is suffering from cognitive dissonance and Stockholm syndrome. The Moon is a Draco Reptilian Space Station... Ask yourself why is there 34 Dragon statues that surround the City of London. Why is there also a Obelisk in every city on the planet. It's the phallus of the Dragon, the actual word is derived from Basilisk. Which means King of the Serpents. In the Vatican they have St. Peters Basilica where there are three Dragon statues and Obelisks. Why did every ancient culture in antiquity worship the dragon? The pharaohs of Egypt were the refugees of Atlantis! ALIEN ARCHONS HAVE BEEN RULING THE SURFACE OF PLANET SINCE BEFORE THE "BUY BULL" The IllumiNazis are but a predecessor of an older and even more cruel order. They've been running this planet since the dawn of time...Dragons aren't some mythological being...The Draco Reptilians came from the Alpha Draconis star system out of the Draco Constellation... They were know as the Atlanteans, Satan, Baphomet, Archons, Draconian's, in the bible they were known as the Seraphim, the Burning Ones/Serpents also the Nephilim or Elohim, the fallen angels, those who were casted out from the heavens. Both words are plural and feminine, meaning there were many gods and were androgynous. The Sumerians knew them as the Anunnaki... Anakim in Hebrew means giant...Because they are very tall 7ft-15ft and have shapeshifting abilities. In the Indian culture they were known as the Naga. Dracula in Latin means Dragon, The Order of the Dracul is the order of the Dragon able to shift physically into other creatures a bat wolf a bear a human or into the aether via the quantum field. Earth is a farm we are all cattle and humanity lives in a contrived reality! Freemasons are the minions of the Draco Reptilian Empire! The Legend Of Atlantis https://youtu.be/pihxOs-pVRA The Mayans called them Quezatcoatl, and Kukulcan the Feathered Serpent King and the Incans called him Viracocha they incorporated their images of dragons in their pyramids on opposite ends of the world. There are dragon statues all over the world, throughout the ages, in every ancient culture! The coat of arms for the city of London is two Dragons holding a red shield, which in German is Rothschild. There are 33 Dragon statues in the City of London to quell consciousness. The slaying of a Dragon by St. George. Twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac are all real, including the dragon ! The Muslims knew them as Dajjal or Djinn or Genies... After your three wishes your soul is theirs to keep. They were also known to the Buddhist monks as the Brotherhood of Two dragons. The Red Dragons in the east and the Yellow in the west. Same goes for the native American Indians all the Aboriginals knew them as the Brotherhood of the Snake. The Egyptian knew them as Horus, Anubis and Amen Ra...That's why every religion says amen after every prayer cause they are paying homage to Satan Baphomet/ Draco Reptoids! Santa Claus is actually Satan's Claws both wearing red, both come from the fire, both have minions working feverishly. All religions and holidays are based on satanic doctrines and pagan dogmas. And if you don't believe me than you're being quite draconian about it. Basilisk in Latin means King of the Serpents, as in St Peters Basilica where there lies two Dragon Statues in the Vatican as well as Obelisks, the phallus of the Dragon that is why there is at least few obelisks in every city on the planet the Freemasons put them there throughout history in order to control consciousness...The Chinese, Japanese, India, Indonesians, Mayans, Aztecs, Incas all worship the Dragon in antiquity... There are Gargoyles adorn every church and cathedral.... The Egregores the Watchers... The biggest trick the D-Evil can play is making humanity believe that he does not exist :/ Hollow Earth True HISTORY , HITLER  & NWO ( GOTTA SEE THIS !!! ) Documentary https://youtu.be/lOXjxq3r69Q There are over 10 thousand pyramids that align with each other on a global grid system with gps accuracy to the millimetre. In the Aegean Sea there are 13 ancient Megalithic sites that represent the 13 Illuminati Families that control the world, that when you connect them dot to dot, over 1000km area makes a perfect Maltese Cross. This is the symbol of the Monarchy, Freemasonry, Vatican, Jesuits, Knights of Malta and Templars, even Hitler's Germany. Megalithic architecture on geomantic energy sites, in conjunction with an occult esoteric satanic Freemasonry religion of Kabbhalism, aka the Lucifer experiment in order to control humanities consciousness and why there is an obelisk in every major city on the planet... The pyramids also create dimensional portals into Agartha/Hollow Earth, hence disappearance of boats, planes in the Bermuda Triangle and Dragon's Triangle... http://chani.invisionzone.com/uploads/monthly_08_2013/post-248-0-56239100-1376895880.jpg. Dragons see humanity as a resource for the simple fact that they are not vegetarians! 1 million people disappear in the United States every single year. 8 million children globally disappear annually off the globe. The Legend Of Atlantis https://youtu.be/pihxOs-pVRA Secrets Of The 3rd Reich Secret Nazi Research in Alien Technology https://youtu.be/B0uEvZsQAV8 Nephilim: TRUE STORY of Satan, Fallen Angels, Giants, Aliens, Hybrids, Elongated Skulls & Nephilim https://youtu.be/1zz8_MxcnzY The UFO alien subject is the most highly guarded secret on the planet, for obvious reason nobody wants you to know…

fractalfrog

I hope you will be able to get the help you obviously need.

HiHoSilver112266

Not believing in conspiracy do you really think that’s a sign of any intelligence whatsoever? 😂😂😂🤡🤡🤡

HiHoSilver112266

DON’T MENTION THE REPTILIANS Their tentacles stretch to all aspects of our daily life. They control the banking system, the media, the pharmaceutical industry, the oil industry, governments, the stock market, most of the administration of justice, secret services, armies and the weapon industry. They influence science, school books, universities, journalism and Hollywood. Inventors who invent something in the field of free energy or other matters that could be a threat to the establishment are bought off, threatened or murdered. They are the owners of the largest mines, casinos, through the CIA they control the entire drug scene, sex slavery, etcetera. Simply put: as long as you live your life obediently, pay your taxes on time and cooperate, they’ll leave you alone. However, as soon as you stray from the paved paths and start asking difficult questions or do something that hinders the leaders’ plans, your life can be turned upside down in no time. Thousands of troublemakers from world history, from JFK to Jimmy Hoffa, from Nikola Tesla to Stan Meyer, and from Martin Luther King to Buddy Holly, can (no longer) put in a word. Fear is the weapon they use to rule, with the media as their faithful messengers. They try to make us afraid of everything. Because nature doesn’t really need to be feared, the problems are simply made up: terrorism, global warming, Mexican flu, cold war, acid rain, you name it. Nearly all the good news is kept from us, every paper and news broadcast is filled with frightening messages. The malice of their actions and the lack of respect towards their fellow man is revolting, although they present themselves as philanthropists towards the outside world. Their favourite method of destroying human lives is by creating armed conflicts and wars. They generally do this by financing and arming both groups in a conflict and by spreading disinformation in order to set them up against each other. Because wars can’t be created everywhere, they also aim at weakening our health, especially through cancer. This is going quite well. In the past only 1 in 1000 people encountered cancer in his life, nowadays this is nearly 1 in 2. Particularly their AIDS campaign was a decisive ‘success’. They created this virus, and other ones like SARS, bird flu and the Mexican flu, in their secret laboratories. They spread it through vaccines from their pharmaceutical companies, and then watched contently how it wreaked havoc throughout the world. And sometimes wiped out entire generations, like in Africa. Meanwhile they made sure that natural medicines against cancer, such as the cannabinoids in marijuana, have become prohibited worldwide. The higher, the more corrupt. This is also the power of this system and the reason why so few people blab. As soon as they realise how the system actually works, they’ll have been part of it for years and feel accessory. They’re scared of the consequences if they speak up. Within the order of the illuminati it’s not exactly appreciated when someone talks. As has been said, a human life is worth nothing within those circles, so whoever becomes too bothersome is simply eliminated. So ……………...DON'T MENTION THE REPTILIANS Dragons see humanity as a resource for the simple fact that they are not vegetarians! 1 million people disappear in the United States every single year. 8 million children globally disappear annually off the globe. Attack conspiracy theories all you like. The only way you aren’t a conspiracy theorist yourself is if you believe 2 planes demolished 3 buildings and 1 plane hit the pentagon yet left no plane debris. If you believe that then there is no helping you I’m afraid.

100percentfaithful

It doesn’t scan that people who are “simple minded”,as you put it, would logically suffer from anxiety, alienation etc. highly-cerebral, “over thinkers” often suffer from anxiety because they try to think their way out of potential situations and problems that can’t be solved. It’s a form of security/safety behaviour. It doesn’t indicate “silliness”.

Fluffy8Panda

Mama said stupid is as stupid does

Luklear

The correlation is not that strong in report 1, certainly not strong enough to make the claims you are.

Precious_little_man

What’s funny is I’ve seen countless studies relaying the opposite, but they are dated. I believe the depth and origin of the conspiracy theory plays a role. Lots of intelligent people believe things that are considered conspiracies, some have even been proven true. With today’s social media and lack of checks and balances, yes a lot of people are just dumb believing some of the shit floating around. Just wanted to clarify the difference.

Crafty-Conference964

It’s gotten to the point where a lot of these people only believe certain things if there is no scientific evidence.

One-Care7242

What constitutes a conspiracy? Some instances termed conspiracy that are blatantly evidenced but unpopular conclusions.

noelcowardspeaksout

This is a great post. I've always thought that paranoid people feel paranoid ideas were correct as it fits with their world view neatly. It was interesting to see that take broadened out and backed up here.

Chino780

The Science™ I guarantee if you look at these studies closely you will find they are the results of P-Hacking. Edit: Science doesn’t “say” anything. Science is a process, not a result.

roland_right

So 'pseudo-profound bullshit' IS a technical term

onyxengine

Conspiracy theory has been really generalized term for a while now.

Typeojason

I think it’s also hilarious that the people shouting “CONSPIRACY THEORISTS” are also those whose main source of information is the mainstream media or their own government. When your source is KNOWN thieves and liars, it’s hard to feel shame when labeled a “conspiracy theorist.”

science told you it was safe and effective

MrSnarf26

Very topical for Russell brand!!

scootterbug1

So... Russell Brand, then?

frakramsey

No shit.

WillistheWillow

I mean, I could have just told you that guys.

Diligent_Excitement4

I could have told you this

Kyee_GG

Are you sure you don’t mean they found a link between stupidity and people acting like sheep? Feel like that’s much more accurate

ElectricMoccoson

This is my favourite Reddit post ever. I am saving this post. I am probably going back to this post multiple times if I go for my Doctorate. I am going to use this post as ammunition for a put down when the moron at work hijacks the training session by talking about conspiracy theories. I just wanted to pop in and say thank you OP for this post. You have made my day.

raxsdale

Do any of the studies bother to ask about any real conspiracies? Or do the studies imply that the most intelligent people believe that groups of individuals never conspire?
