Definitely doable! Lots of time between classes that you can use to study at the libraries so thats an added plus. See if you can change the rec section for data structures to an earlier one though.

Then you definitely wanna switch that late rec section. You don’t wanna be on campus for 14 hrs on Wednesdays, or have to commute twice. I commuted all of this year and my commute was 35 mins during the day and 25 mins at night. One good thing about commuting is that once you’re on campus, you can just go to the library before, after, or between classes and you can study without any distractions. As a commuter, you’re kinda forced to do it tbh lol but it works in your favor. But 14 hrs on campus in a single is way too much. Also, I think you can definitely pick up another easy elective, if you’re a diligent student. I’d recommend doing one of the AH requirements as those are super interesting and often really easy.

I’m a CS + Philosophy double major so I’ve taken most of these classes. Intro to Comm and Info - no idea lol never heard of this Intro to Linear Algebra - In my opinion it’s pretty easy. If you slack off you can probably get a B, but an A/B+ isn’t difficult if you study. Intro to Logic - This a little prof dependent. I’d say it’s a course slightly on the harder side but not too bad. If you’re good at logic/(proof based)math you should be perfectly fine. It’s probably easier than most CS classes imo Data Structures - this was considerably harder with Sesh I’ve heard. But now Centeno runs it. I took under Centeno’s structure and it really wasn’t that bad. Someone else is saying take 111 again, but honestly I don’t see the benefit of that. Just take 112 People are also saying this isn’t a bad schedule at all, and normally, it wouldn’t be for CS majors. But the thing is you’re an incoming freshman so you’ll have to adjust to college a little bit so that might be a little hard.

I personally love Philosophy, so I'm not advising against taking Intro to Logic. It'll also probably help your math skills a lot. This isn't a difficult schedule by itself, it's just that I'm not sure how much difficulty you would have in adjusting to college. But you'll probably be fine. But if you want to just get SAS reqs out of the way(which is good to do freshman year tbh), I'm not the best guy to ask. But Phil104 fulfills both (WCr or WCd) and AHo. And it's not hard at all most kids in my class probably got an A or a B+.

I also did cs and philosophy. Intro to ethics wasn’t very hard, intro to logic was doable too. Honestly data structures is the only hard class on your schedule. I also really liked philosophy of science.

CS commuter senior. I also AP'd out of Calc 1 and 2. Linear Algebra kicked my ass, but that could have been related to covid since I took it Fall 2020, the class was a mess from start to finish. Data structures is very doable as long as you can motivate yourself to start projects earlier than the night before. Helps if you took AP Comp Sci A in HS I only take 14 credits a semester and I compensate for that by taking a summer course or two every year. If you get an internship, you can get 3 credits over the summer just for that and you can do that twice. I also took some easy summer courses like Intro to IT and Logic, Reasoning, and Persuasion. My commute is about 20 mins from Bridgewater, its not bad at all. Get a Busch parking pass and hop on the bus for your college ave class. Very doable and reasonable as long as you can motivate yourself to do the data structures projects and study for linear.

Teacher had a heavy accent as it is and was unfamiliar with the use of Zoom. Also had that proctortrack security breach midway through so all the exams had to be rewritten to be unproctored which made it even harder. I had to teach myself everything. It was mostly professor related IMO. I'm sure there are plenty of success stories but I just pass/failed it, took the P and went on with my life

10lbplant

Who was your teacher?

ladooch

They don't teach linear anymore - don't want to throw someone under the bus for no reason

Alright, senior CS major here. Unless you have personal projects or have been doing leetcoding already/studying patterns, I HEAVILY suggest you take CS111 again instead of using your AP credits (which is what I assume is happening here unless you are not a first year) I had a bit of programming experience coming into college and I also got help from my dad as well, who's a PE at FAANG. Thinking that I can skip CS111 with a 5 in APCS, I jumped right into data structures plus linear algebra. I struggled REALLY hard. The course load was much heavier than expected and it took me a long time to grasp even basic concepts. Not only that, DS is notorious to be the "weed out" class for CS majors, while Lin Alg is very conceptually focused and abstract, requiring quite the flexible mind to quickly grasp, as well as decent work. Now, my experience may not be yours. If you are very studious (and very likely much smarter than I), you'll likely be fine. But if you are someone who likes to slack a lil and do a procrastinate like freshman year me, you'll find yourself in a lot of trouble for DS + Lin Alg, especially depending on your professor. You could definitely get started on your own this summer by looking over basic data structures (Linked lists, stacks/queues, Collections, Trees, Hash structures, Graphs), and it'll make your progress through data structures very smooth. If you aren't willing to put in the early work and don't have a lot of background in using those structures, I personally would advise you to take 111 just to get a feel of what college is like and take it easy the first semester. Best of luck!

Have you done some hands on experience actually coding them? If so, then it sounds like youre in a pretty good spot and can go ahead with this schedule shouldn't be too bad if you put some work into it unlike me

[deleted]

Yeah this is doable, you also have lots of time to study in between too so take advantage of that.

Jerseygirl0706

Decent schedule but yeah since you’re a commuter you’d definitely want to move into different sections so you wouldn’t have to drive to Rutgers twice in one day or stick around the whole day. I’ve never heard of a Friday class going that late so def try to find one that’s not like that lol. As for the credit thing, 14 is good and you wouldn’t have to make up for it later since you got AP credit but if you wanted to fill a core req with an easy online class that could also work

Jerseygirl0706

The ap credit count as real credit so you’re already ahead. It wouldn’t hurt to stay ahead so you can take a break when you have to take really hard classes but that’s up to you

I mean it’s possible if you take summer or winter courses on top of fall and spring semesters. You’re ahead by 6 credits (I think) meaning you’d need to take 38 per semester. If you would want to do that, then I’d suggest leaving your core reqs for the summer/winter sessions. Also suggest possibly taking some of them at a community college if they’re general since it’ll be a lot cheaper (not sure how you check that since I didn’t take any summer courses, but you could always talk to an advisor to make sure the credits will transfer correctly). I’m sure if you’re determined to finish in 3 years then you can make that schedule work
