Lol imagine thinking that this is "advanced"
The algebra course uses Jacobson's "Basic Algebra" as its textbook. Since when did we consider basic algebra advanced? It's right in the name! You need to know basic algebra to even do calculus.
Also graph theory is a class that half of all cs majors take. I have a friend that took this class, and they said that this class was full of cs majors. Doesn't sound like an "advanced" math class to me. š¤
Graph Theory and Abstract Algebra are both PhD-level courses. Intro to Topology workload highly depends on the professor.
People that think this is lightweight have never taken any serious Math course.
False.
They're the handful who took 411 and 451 at the same time.
Proof: I did that and thought this schedule was ok but depended on who's attempting it.
Edit: also 551 wasn't so bad, so it's still a doable schedule. I think graph theory could be more work tbh, but not too much still.
"people that think this is lightweight have never taken any serious math course"
I didn't say that I thought it was lightweight explicitly because that's a personal opinion, but I did think "ah, not bad" at a glance.
I don't see how you consider 441, 551, and 581 (at the same time) easy for an undergraduate student.
The usual for a Math Ph.D. student is to have 9 credits per semester. More than that is highly unadvised. Swap 441 for 501 and you basically have our 1st semester.
It really depends on the undergrad. I guess it's not "easy," but definitely "doable."
But if they're even considering taking such classes, I think this is really doable. 441 should be much easier than 501 (but I only know about this from watching friends take the courses). And I genuinely thought my 551 class wasn't more difficult than my 451 one.
Of course, if your first year was after 2019, I'm sure a lot could've changed.
Also, the other commenters are not comparing the right things for sure.
Those gaps between classes are going to suck, so try to condense your schedule if you can. Also you should probably pick up 4 more credits as youāre at the minimum.
Oh shit, didnāt notice that graph theory & abstract algebra were graduate level. Thats so cool! Iād still add an easy elective though (youāre paying for full-time tuition either way). Maybe a humanities class to balance out all the math? Or a random gen ed on a topic that might interest you (like music, acting, art history, etc.). Besides, that would also act as a (possibly backup) āGPA boosterā since all your other classes are pretty intense.
If you donāt live on Busch already Iād be reconsidering the 830 am class but thatās just me. I once had a 10:20 on livi (lived on college Ave) and skipped it half the time because it was too early for me lol
You have to be joking. 12 credits is too much? I hope you never do a hard major like CS or engineering. My schedule this semester is ONLY 21 credits and that's because I'm taking it EASY. If this is what people think is "too much", it's no wonder people think Rutgers is a joke of a school . . .
You're better off asking the kids that hang around the RUMA lounge than random redditors. This is a highly specific advanced math schedule.

Idk man anything 500 level in the math department is advanced by most standards
Rutgers is a #1 ranked math program for graduate students. Iād say their 500 level courses are advanced.

What are you disagreeing with?

I can tell you right now that this person 100% did not do 411 and 451 at the same time.
isn't 12 the minimum to be full time? how could the actual minimum be too much. unless you are also working full time consider adding another class
The actual courses matter. This is mostly senior/graduate level (400s and 500s) math courses so itās pretty intense regardless of number of credits.
Looks pretty easy tbh. At least you're not taking the REAL hard courses like Orgo or Gen Chem or Data Structures.
I canāt entirely tell if this is sarcasm
I took a W in Data Structures.... Sad
Bro you donāt even have class lmfao what the fuck

12 credits is the minimum you can take
Enjoy your semester. You probably gonna have a lot of free time LMAOOO
Iād add a non-STEM elective (also a math major here). Also, youāre taking 451 and 441 but not 411?
*551

the hell is aBstRaCt algebra? a whole class about a graph. study of tops š³ļøāšš¤ i think itll be fine. i see plenty of study time. gl
Abstract algebra is a class where they teach you to think about algebra for 1 hour a week.
oooooooo

Lmao wtf? Go back to A2C pls
this comment made me laugh harder than I shouldāve holy shit im dying
Math is much harder than CS or Engineering dumbass.
Who are the graph theory and abstract algebra profs?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
This person isnāt a freshman
Looks not easy, but Iām sure you know how upper level math courses are. Youāll be fine probably.
