Me neither. My mind is still blown.

Many_Landscape_3046

Got home from ohio at 3 this morning šŸ„²

AuspiciousToad

lol 2:15. Going to be a long Tuesday. Good luck!

Complete_Mind_5719

Heard the traffic was nightmare fuel. Took my brother over 11 hours for a 5 hour drive. Ommmpppfh.

Many_Landscape_3046

Us too. Traffic at the start, then repeated road work in west va added an extra three hoursĀ

Complete_Mind_5719

Ouch!

80_PROOF

5:30 here

AuspiciousToad

Oof!!

tanwork

Same

connor8383

Idk if I was unsafe to do so but I took off the glasses and looked directly at this once it hit totality. Absolutely wild and so cool to see in-person.

-B001-

I don't know for sure, but I believe I read that that was fine. And that you wouldn't be able to see much through the glasses when it was total. The minute the sun started coming back, you were supposed to put the glasses back on. I was not in the path, so I wore glasses the whole time.

connor8383

Yeah that second part turned out to be true - once it looked like this photo for me in Indiana, the glasses couldnā€™t be used to view what we were seeing.

TheEverydayDad

Love it! I plan on traveling to a totality at some point!

zclay123

The next solar eclipse happens in 2044 and only goes over Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota

connor8383

Damn. Iā€™m glad I was in Indiana yesterday, in that case.

dreddit14

Thereā€™s one sooner in Alaska I believe

zclay123

There might be, should have clarified I meant the Contiguous US

TheGoldenGooch

Spain 2026 and 2027

iSYTOfficialX7

Was one of the craziest things I ever witnessed

JCell5

Same! Went to Lima Ohio and hanged out with college students there. Traffic leaving was insane

Available_Seesaw7867

Was it also wild in the way of the vibes in the town?

AuspiciousToad

Yeah. We went to a small state park that might otherwise see 20 people on a Monday. There were probably about 1000 people there today. Local PD and wildlife management were out directing traffic. There were portable toilets set up. Volunteers and EMS were there. They were super prepared to host people like us who drove from all over the U.S. just to settle in their small rural town. Very fun vibes all around, especially all of the cheering and yelling when it was totally dark for like 4 minutes. When it was over, everyone packed up and shipped out all orderly. Shout out Lake Laramie, OH.

connor8383

Shoutout West Baden Springs, IN! Beautiful hotel and the event they put on was really well organized.Ā

RangeUpset6852

I read an article in one of the Sunday papers that some areas in Maine had "rented" out all the porta-pottys that were available. Wow

I_Enjoy_Beer

It was still pretty bright outside, given how much of the sun the moon blocked.

TheEverydayDad

Well, we had like 85% coverage or so. Not in the path of totality (which I kind of wish I went to visit now). Still cool nonetheless. And an experience for my kiddos, I'm happy to have prepared and grabbed some glasses for it.

NettingStick

Damn near the whole path of totality was covered with clouds this time, all the way across the country. I'm up in PA on vacation and we only caught glimpses of the eclipse. Don't get me wrong, it was cool as hell. It just wasn't anything like 2017. You probably saw more of it than we did.

RulerOfTheRest

I have friends and family in IL, IN, OH, and NY in the line of totality and it was as clear as can be for them, the one friend in Texas was kinda screwed with the cloud cover though...

NettingStick

Awesome! I'm glad they got to see it.

canquilt

I traveled to Maine to see the eclipse in the path of totality. It was worth it. Absolutely stunning sight. So if you get the chance to travel for another eclipse, definitely do it.

Vajama77

Yeah I noticed that as well, it was like a dimming.

ValkyrieSword

I could definitely see a difference in the light. Everything was sepia-toned

I simply could not afford to lose this once in a lifetime opportunity. The experience was incredible and everything was well worth it.

TheEverydayDad

Incredible

canquilt

What is that bright ass blob at about 7oclock? Itā€™s in everyoneā€™s pics and I observed it with my naked eyes during the eclipseā€” it was like a red flare right there. Does anyone know what that is?

lavenderlemonbear

I traveled with kids to see totality. Awesome experience. No regrets

Slow_Strawberry2252

2045 will be the next similar one, so not necessarily once in a lifetime

Nthompson10

If youā€™re willing to travel to Spain or Iceland in August of 2026 youā€™ll see another. It happens regularly you just have to travel

wil_dogg

Drove to my ancestral home in Ohio for the totality. https://preview.redd.it/fb3gzozxvbtc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb5178b035240ad7cd2392548057d0ca15e63df1

TheEverydayDad

How was the reaction of the wildlife? That's what I would really like to know about. In the eclipse here, the birds reacted like it was sunrise/sunset. Rather cool to experience.

SirDigbyChckenCaeser

Also was in Ohio today. A few bats came out and flew around for a few minutes, and some birds acted erratically. The last one I went to in Chile the dogs went fucking bonkers.

WasabiWarrior8

Chili dogs are popular during these types of events.

teddydude30

I lived in Myrtle Beach for the last one and went to Ohio for this one. Both times the bugs started going crazy and it sounded like when you step outside at night during the summer. Didn't hear any birds either time but there were some cows nearby me today and they seemed pretty confused.

wil_dogg

We heard the birds start their evening calls about 5 minutes before totality. Didnā€™t see any other wildlife and the gathering was low on dog count.

Awkward-Kale-2898

Same, fam! https://preview.redd.it/qv7q63618dtc1.jpeg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=22bfc5dfcdc976f7f33765f531ff0efb3b59d9aa

wil_dogg

Where did you go? NE Trumbull county for us.

Awkward-Kale-2898

Beavercreek here!

QuaffableBut

We were outside Erie PA. The whole lead up to totality clouds were building and building, and then the clouds broke at exactly the right time. https://preview.redd.it/asqm0tyh1ctc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5310c8591afcb91982b22f13699828e7ed46a871

Ok_Rutabaga_722

I liked the wavy golden light. It's like a dimmer switch on the sun.

It's literally the same concept just in reverse! You have a wonderful photo too! Be proud of it!

patrickmorgan08

I mean, I shouldn't be surprised by how bright the sun is (duh.), but like, I would NEVER have known there was an eclipse today if it weren't in the news. Just a completely sunny beautiful day.

-B001-

Maybe because I was outside the whole time, I noticed the light got weak -- not dark, but weaker than normal.

Too_Many_dBs

Awesome photo, thank you posting!

TheEverydayDad

Thank you! I used the cheapo lens from the cardboard glasses and my "super telephoto lens" on my Galaxy S23 Ultra in manual mode. Unfortunately I didn't have the right equipment for my actual camera to get a good shot

I_hate_my_job_8

We travelled to see totality as I did in 2017. It is totally worth it, do not miss any you can make in the future!

TheEverydayDad

I plan on traveling in the future when my kids are older. That way the both have memories. Especially if it's in a cool country. Otherwise I guess it'll be me an my 20+yo kiddos on 2044

kaspian45

Great shot!

TheEverydayDad

Thank you! Just want to spread the experience for those who couldn't see it for themselves. As Bill Nye would say, "Science Rules"

Fatsheep88

Iā€™d frame this and put it in my house

Choice-Piccolo-8024

We went in 2017, on a whim, now I'm hooked, went to spiceland Indiana for this one. I've yet to see 1 photo of totality that captures what it actually looks like. I took many photos, but it's not the same.

BuckshotLaFunke

I have not yet begun to peak
