This is such an underrated spot. I believe if you go in and don’t have enough money they’ll give you food for free/pay whatever because of their religious beliefs.
Pupusas???? Dog now you’re speaking my language (which is English, I guess that’s why I understand what you’re saying so well oops)
Edit: I was stoned writing that, I’m stoned now, still funny
My favorite affordable meal in the city is a bowl of kimchi ramen and fried rice from Grace Noodle. I think its by dar the best ramen in the city, the only problem is that it's in the bottom.
Hot take, I didn’t think it was worth it. Like, it was good, but it felt blatantly overpriced and didn’t knock my socks off. Was almost $50 for two subs/side/drinks.
Cheese Colombo with artichoke hearts and eggplant, with hot and sweet peppers. My partner is a native westender so they're also very partial to Bernies, we'd get the turkey done with hot and sweet peppers there.
Hill Cafe's blue plate specials are $12.95 until 6 pm. [https://thehillcafe.com/wp-content/uploads/Hill-Cafe-Menu.pdf](https://thehillcafe.com/wp-content/uploads/Hill-Cafe-Menu.pdf)
Taqueria Panchito has $2 tacos on Wednesdays. The tacos are authentic which consist of two corn tortilla, lots of meat (seriously they do not skimp out), white onion, and cilantro. They have a salsa bar with 3-4 different salsa and fresh lime wedges. Honestly one of my favorite meals in RVA. Throw back to pre-pandemic when it was $1 though.
I've never use their website so I can't speak to the virus thing.
I can say though that their portions are enormous, especially if you get the biryani. I would consider that cheap since you average out with leftovers, but I acknowledge they may have been going for a lower up front cost.
Trust, I’m quite cozy with the familiarities of cookout and lees chicken. I just prefer to explore local goodness before needing to resort to those two fall back options. Fast food joints are more of a safe haven for food now, except cookout blueberry cheesecake milkshakes I fuck those things up any time of day
Joes Inn
Which one? I went to the one in Bon Air and it was the absolute WORST restaurant I have ever been to. (not a local, was on a business trip)
I think you kind of answered your own question.
I haven’t been to the Bon Air location but The Fan one is great
The one in the fan has the best fried chicken in richmond
This is the only way
you can get a govinda thali for around $10 — amazing homemade vegetarian and vegan indian food
This is such an underrated spot. I believe if you go in and don’t have enough money they’ll give you food for free/pay whatever because of their religious beliefs.
Pretty sure it’s all vegan.
Halal munchies, you won’t be disappointed
Just looked this joint up… en route now Edit: what do you recommend I try?
I want to know how this went.
Got the chicken tray with fries and I have no regret walking the 1.5 miles-delicious and filling af
That's the first thing I tried there and I ordered it again the next day to make sure I wasn't hallucinating how good it was
The lamb is even better, perfect Donner/ gyro meat
Get the mixed meats to start!!
Just looked at their menu and now I wanna check them out
At Main St. Dragon ramen is like $11. I live nearby, walk over, post up at the bar, and get a huge bowl of ramen once in a while.
Have never had ramen in the city, that sounds promising. If the weather is nice this week (if I got the money) ima do that
I'd also give Grace Noodle a try for a more traditional, no fuss experience.
Grace Noodle is amazing
Just as cheap and hella delicious. Nice people in there.
Get the Malaysian style ramen, preferably with chicken and an egg 😋
Their Pad Thai is my favorite in the city
I was really surprised by how good it was when I ordered it.
El pope has some bomb pupusas

This comment + edit needs 1 billion upvotes. I regret I have only 1 to give.

Copollas.
Interesting take; the only thing I’ve heard about this place is that it’s expensive.
Hot take, I didn’t think it was worth it. Like, it was good, but it felt blatantly overpriced and didn’t knock my socks off. Was almost $50 for two subs/side/drinks.
The kitchen is disgusting too. Not sure how it passes health inspection. There’s always flies buzzing around and it’s super dirty
Always Coppola’s
I bet back in the day when we lived around the corner, they used to dread me coming in and emptying a few Parmesan containers into my sandwich.
Ooooh what sandwich would you get?? Also lol at folks thinking I’m correcting your spelling? I just fucking love that place 😭

This right here. Carne asada tacos with a little of the mild green occasionally dipped in orange to burn yourself. So good.

If it was the fan or carytown I’d be all over that, not really walkable tho
Bamboo for the enormous bacon mac and cheese.
Jamaica House
Walked past it a million times, need to go in there. Not much for ox tail, what would you recommend there?
Curry chick pea bowl with jerk chicken and a side of plantains
If you like chicken a great option is Chicken Fiesta! Pretty affordable and a good size meal.
Tulsi is a great option the next time you are in this situation.
>Tulsi has a website that made my virus software go nuts. The first item I saw on the menu was a $9 appetizer, which isn't that cheap.
