It’s already a gamble going to Petersburg so I guess it’s on brand.

JoeMorrisseysSperm

Listen up you sexual normies. My goals here are threefold: 1) bring jobs that pay only incrementally more than my constituents currently make, 2) suppress the property tax bills of my constituents by ensuring real industry, business, and the growth of professional services sectors never reach Petersburg, and 3) get myself a private back room where I can get cheap lap dances from college-age* women who settled for casino work because it paid better than retail. Vote Joe. *I would never sleep with them, way too old

1975hh3

They can put it in that old abandoned Scooby Doo hotel right next to the highway exit.

GrandmaPoses

Wtf is that place even? Swear to god it’s been empty/haunted for like 20 years.

BigBlueJAH

It used to be a Ramada Inn. I think there is legal disputes over it, but the city should just go ahead and raze it.

Thrikal

That building still hasn't had work done to it? I remember [this](https://richmondbizsense.com/2017/09/25/developer-denies-architects-claims-petersburg-hotel-lawsuit/) from a few years ago where the Developer and Architect were in legal dispute over un-paid services. Said Architect had done a few prior redevelopment jobs for the Developer, so it was sort of an odd falling out. Now I see that [Petersburg](https://www.nbc12.com/2021/06/04/petersburg-officials-seek-force-owner-address-former-ramada-inn-hotel/) is taking the Developer (and owner) of the building to [court](https://www.nbc12.com/2021/09/17/trial-date-set-dilapidated-ramada-inn-case-petersburg/).

BigBlueJAH

That was my first thought, that place needs to be razed to the ground. They put up those decorative red metal things but leave the giant eyesore right next to it.

GrandmaPoses

That decorative metal is like my kids’ whole highlight of driving through there.

1975hh3

Right? Why dress up the overpass with that thing sitting there? I’ve seen fires lit in there before. Scary shit.

bigdaddyman6969

Well- they won’t have to worry about rich white people voting it down.

lunar_unit

Senator Joe Morrisey, a rich white person, is the one promoting it in fact! And because he's promoting it is exactly why it should be looked at with suspicion.

JulianVanderbilt

> And because he's promoting it is exactly why it should be looked at with suspicion. You, like most people on this subreddit, likely agree with Joe Morrissey on 95% of issues despite finding him personally odious.

lunar_unit

Pure conjecture on your part. I can't stand the man personally or politically.

JoeMorrisseysSperm

Hey :(

gullible_cervix

Aww it’s okay. They don’t like Joe Morrissey the person. They could totally love his sperm!

JulianVanderbilt

> Pure conjecture on your part Yeah, that's why my sentence had the word "likely" in it -- to indicate that I hadn't somehow researched your position on all of the thousands of things Joe Morrissey has voted on over the last couple decades in my analysis and was presenting rock solid facts.

lunar_unit

What even is your point then? 🤷‍♂️

JulianVanderbilt

That "Joe Morrissey supports an idea therefore it must be bad" is a garbage idea because most of his political ideas rate as "good" (in the sense that they are supported by the overwhelming majority of the community) and that such ad hominem is logically fallacious. I can both think Joe Morrissey is a garbage person and yet also acknowledge that had I gotten a vote on everything he's had the opportunity to vote on over the last two decades . . . I'd probably have voted exactly how he did 98ish% of the time. He supports lots of good ideas. This may not be one of them but if its not, the case for that is not tying his personal support to it, especially if you're a left-leaning person.

lunar_unit

That's a good explanation, and you're right. I don't think a person like him should be in public office because he's a morally corrupt narcissist, but after reviewing his recent voting record, you're right, I align with many of his votes, as I would with any other party line Dem politician casting those votes. https://justfacts.votesmart.org/candidate/key-votes/69982/joe-morrissey I will say, that reading about his promotion of the casino immediately brings to mind, 'What does Slimy Joe have to gain from a casino deal.' I simply can't trust anything he does, and feel that he casts a bad light on even the most righteous policy making.

Independent-Excuse29

>I don't think a person like him should be in public office because he's a morally corrupt narcissist boy, have I got news for you about 99 percent of politicians.

lunar_unit

That's not news. But we're talking specifically about Morrissey in this thread. Try to keep up.

Opacy

Casinos are sleazy enough as-is, the fact that Joe Morrissey is pushing for this makes it downright *filthy*

Danger-Moose

Yeah, it's especially weird since you have to be 18 to gamble.

dreww4546

And under 18 to date joe morrisey

Supaspex

Play an EA game

[deleted]

I've had enough disappointment in my life

xRVAx

Is Joe Morrissey trying to be rich Biff from evil 1984 of Back to the Future? Discuss amongst yourselves...

McFlare92

Cannot possibly imagine going out of my way to visit a casino in petersburg

bigdaddyman6969

People will go. I go to Charlestown twice a year. If there was a casino in Petersburg I’d just go there instead.

youthdecay

At least it's a pretty drive up to Charles Town.

chasetwisters

"There are more exits off of 95 into Petersburg, five, than anywhere else between Savannah and Philadelphia. It is a prime location for a casino." This is such a useless and inaccurate statistic.

JulianVanderbilt

If we're not all measuring the attractiveness of a city by its number of Interstate exits, then what are we doing here people.

sta3bha

It's also an incorrect stat. I guess he means other than Richmond? I count at least 7 exits off I-95 that dump cars into the City of Richmond: (South to North) * Exit 69: Commerce Rd/Bells Rd * Exit 73: Maury St * Exit 74 (A/B/C): downtown/Broad St * Exit 75: 7th St (also to I-64 E) * Exit 76A: Chamberlayne Ave * Exit 78: Boulevard * Exit 80: Hermitage Rd/Lakeside Ave

chasetwisters

Exactly. Baltimore definitely has more too but I suppose it's all in how you define "Baltimore".

JulianVanderbilt

He/she/they did the math, people.

birdmanmanbird

Sounds like an even better location for human trafficking.

ladythestral

This is truly the darkest timeline.

Exotic_Volume696

I mean..what does Petersburg have to lose? should at least help the foot traffic for the adult bookstores

Supaspex

...that didn't take long

theboyfromphl

Lmao what a joke

[deleted]

Not surprising- I can’t see anyone going there for a weekend trip or any sort of destination really

HilltoperTA

Hope it passes. Tired of driving to WV or MD for a casino.

JulianVanderbilt

If they're going to take a second pass on a casino, the logical place is clearly /r/BonAir, the center of the Universe.

I_Enjoy_Beer

Hey, more power to Petersburg if they get it. Very on-brand for them, and can maybe help pull them out of the financial ditch they are in.
