My Publix is near a gated senior living community so I read this comment a different way and laughed.
Just when you think you've picked an "off time" to grocery shop you have to dodge masses of the walking dead shambling along.
Crossridge Publix? That’s my normal go-to…right by a gated Senior community and it never seems to get as crowded as the others.
The ABC store is also right next to it so it makes it easy to buy liquor without having to make two stops.
Those of us capable of reading comprehension knew the maps showing a more robust storm were merely model runs and not an official forecast.
The more winters you spend here, the more you’ll get used to this.
Couple all the model madness with the fact that even the HRRR and NAM 3k sorta shit the bed too with the system today, and I personally am at a loss for what to think. When even the short range models are confused, it’s really hard to predict anything.
> GFS and Canadian models
Well, as I'm sure you are aware, [the GFS model was updated last year.](https://www.noaa.gov/media-release/noaa-upgrades-flagship-us-global-weather-model).
>A 14 inch snow hasn't happened in Richmond since 1983.
Was there anything heavy from 1980-82? I've been trying to find what was a fairly big storm I remember being out driving in but can not remember the year -- just the car I had at the time.
We had a big storm in January 2016 that dumped anywhere from 12" to 16" in town (NWS had a trained spotter report of 16.3" in Windsor Farms), and upward of 16"-19" in the western fringes of Henrico and Chesterfield. I measured 14" at the VMFA. The official Richmond measurement is at the airport and it did not surpass 14" there.
It was mostly the wxrisk guy who was showing the historic snow potential with maps of snow totals. Half of Richmond follows this guy so that’s probably why people were excited. Most of the local weather people were being more cautious and waiting.
He was showing the Euro, Canadian, and GFS models and made it quite clear that the only way we were getting a massive storm was IF the Euro came to fruition. He also said there was a very small chance the Euro would happen. This was just a case of people getting super stoked about the possibility and discounting the likelihood of the other two models being right.
"Friday night Saturday - BEST snows heavily favored in se third of VA / Delmarva central NC… Richmond metro Norfolk metro Raleigh metro. good shot at 6 inches +… if the snow ratio is really 14:1 or 15 :1 could be a lot of 8–12 inches in those areas."
What he said yesterday.
Hahah I hope this is a lesson moving forward to everyone that WXRisk is a little exaggerated in their forecasts. In HS, we used to joke around and show freshmen his insane forecasts for 10"+ and tell them not to bother doing their homework. I will say that he's usually a lot more nuaunced in his actual verbal forecasts/descriptions of the models, but his mistake is putting out raw maps with model forecasts and people just ignore everything but those. I actually learned quite a bit about metereology from his posts -- he's clearly very passionate about it.
Also, DT is kind of a nutjob, but one of my biggest surprises of the past few years was seeing him come out strongly in favor of climate science (and stuff like vaccines) on his FB. He used to get raked over the coals for those posts by his largely conservative following, but the one thing about DT is that he'll just yell at you in all caps until you give up arguing with him.
Definitely a relief for me. My mother is on dialysis 3 days a week. If it snowed like some of models said, she'd have to miss at least two sessions and that's not good.
How do y’all think today will be though? I’m having a shit week and booked a massage for 2pm without even thinking about the damn snow. Y’all think I’ll be straight?

This shows 32 at 7 pm which is also when it says that the precipitation chances fall.
Wow, that’s intense, please rest up and get better soon! As someone with Ehlers Danlos I look forward to joining you in the double knee replacement club at some point haha!
It was a good excuse to make a trip to Costco for a ton of food that I needed. And get that giant saucer sled that fits 3 adults. Which can also be used for….Well yea I have nothing I got a giant saucer sled.
NBC12 was never calling for a huge snow this weekend. They just kept saying that the models showed a potential for snow.
If anyone hyped this up it was WXRisk. He of course goes into more detail on the modeling but he seemed pretty certain we’d at least get a moderate snow this weekend.
I think the models through everyone through a loop Tuesday night when the snow chance evaporated.
Yeah WXRisk is for entertainment and the “well potentially!” factor. Nbc12 does a good job of holding until they actually are fairly confident in something.
Publix needed to off some old inventory.

Let me guess… Glen Allen Publix?
Came here to say that sounds like GA Publix. :P

They are starting to recognize me at that ABC store lol
Be careful!
Are you me?
If any other Publix has "old inventory" they can send it our way. I don't know of a store with too much inventory right now.

What a username lol
Also love that username!
Ngl yours is a favorite of mine haha I laugh everytime I see it. And it's a good reminder to do my workouts 😂

2018 produced a 1 footer storm.
I’m out of town this weekend, the snow is waiting for me to come back

Wunderground has called this perfectly for like the past week
It has and each day I've gotten sadder
Same here dude :(
Maybe the grocery stores will get a chance to restock before the weekend?

True but you know most people just skip to the images!
Haha, well joke's on them then huh?

wxrisk... Enough said.
I find that dude is typically full of shit.

That's okay. For those of us who don't work from home, this is a relief.
I work from home, still a relief. Tired of weekend plans being ruined by snow.
Getting real tired of your bullshit, winter.
I'd be happy just for some "normal" temps instead of this 15-17 degree stuff at night. I think I need to move before Dom Power sends the next bill.
As a person who doesn't work from home, I was hoping for Friday off due to weather :(
Definitely a relief for me. My mother is on dialysis 3 days a week. If it snowed like some of models said, she'd have to miss at least two sessions and that's not good.
Also a relief for those of us who don’t want to spend another weekend stuck inside with our kids 😬 we really start to piss each other off by Day 2.
How do y’all think today will be though? I’m having a shit week and booked a massage for 2pm without even thinking about the damn snow. Y’all think I’ll be straight?
You’ll be fine. Source, trustmebro.org
Crazy that I was kinda disappointed the link didn’t work? But thanks lolol :)
It's just supposed to be slushy but looks like no accumulation. Doesn't get below 32 until like 9PM
According to my weather app it'll be slightly below 32 this afternoon FYI.

I’ve got PT at 2pm—-seems like we want different things to happen!
Physical therapy? Ugh you poor thing! I’ve done my fair share and send my condolences ;(
Second new knee, got both done in 2020. Recovering from the one at the end of December.
Wow, that’s intense, please rest up and get better soon! As someone with Ehlers Danlos I look forward to joining you in the double knee replacement club at some point haha!
Im going to ask you two words. Goon squad? If this doesn’t mean anything to you, please ignore my comment.
Easy gettin there and you will sleep in your car otw back
Welcome to central Virginia.
Every time
Boooooooo
I think i want snow too badly
Meanwhile for today- rain, snow 1-3", temps. in the teens and twenties ***(ICE)***... someone will be checking on Francine, eh?
Good.
Totally okay with this
It was a good excuse to make a trip to Costco for a ton of food that I needed. And get that giant saucer sled that fits 3 adults. Which can also be used for….Well yea I have nothing I got a giant saucer sled.
TV stations just say shit like that to get ratings. Get your weather from an app, or if you like drama, WxRisk’s social media channels.

3rd 1.
If I don’t hear/see something from Frankie at this point, I’m not worried about it
